Rooted phone stuck on encryption - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi all need help. I started encryption on my rooted S80 and read later that I needed to remove root beforehand. Now it is stuck in the encryption padlock for a few hours. I tried restarting and couldn't get out of this mode and cannot enter recovery. Any advise?

Also stuck

I am in the same boat. Any luck fixing this?

Hi guys, I stumbled on this thread on Friday 12-01-2018 cos I ran into the exact same problem. I was shocked no one responded with a solution. Well after scrambling with trials and guesses, I found one that worked. if you haven't already solved this problem, the simplest solution is to do the following:
Please note: This works for already rooted devices running TWRP recovery
1. Allow the phone to run out of charge while stuck on the encryption screen
2. Plug the phone to charge up without pressing the power button
3. Unplug the power cord and press Vol up+ bixby + power button at together to boot into recovery mode
4. Press Backup (yes you can still backup your data to external SD)
5. After backup, go back to the main TWRP menu and press WIPE
6. Press FORMAT DATA
7. Reboot the phone (you'll receive a warning that No OS Installed... this is good cos it means you've successfully formatted the phone)
8. On rebooting, the phone is just stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Logo (powered by Android) - this means you have successfully formatted the phone
9. Remove your external SD, connect it to your PC and copy your firmware into it, then re-insert it into your phone
10. Reboot to recovery using Step 3 above
10. Reinstall your firmware, allow your phone to boot up completely. This will take a while as it is a fresh install
11. Reboot into recovery and restore your data.
Hope this helps. It worked for me.

Not yet sure!
Hi All,
thanks to all for this question and the answer...
Please clarify me to get sure:
I've S8 with Oero (Stuck ROM) --> rooted (TWRP + Magisk)
Is it possible to set on the encryption?
If not, is there any other way/ROM/TWRPs to makes it possible?
Cheers,

Hi,
yes it is possible, i did it long times ago so i don't remember exactly (stock + encryption + twrp + root with magisk) but what you need to do is to set the encryption first and then root or you'll be stuck on encryption if you'r root first

What now?

Hey capsycum,
Thanks for the answer.
Well I did have the enc on before root, but as I knew some issues with OnePlus Phone I deactivated the enc before rooting.
Now the Phone is rooted - without having the enc on before.
So the question is if there is any way to activate the encryption - posthumously?
Cheers,

?
...anyone an idea?

?
Hey Guys,
I'd very appreciate, if anyone could clear the situation - or better - suggest a solution?!
Thanks

It is not true... I've tried any possibility...
Even the way to:
1. set on Enc.
2. Install TWRP, then directly to Recovery, install no-verity and then install Magisk
3. back to Download-Mode and install the self extracted stock recovery (from org. stock image)...
Did not help... (After first pass-phrase request of booting, it gives back the integrity error and never asks for pass again)
So... Any help is welcome!

[Q] Boot problem - stuck at IDEOS logo!

Hello!
Something strange happened today. I plugged the usb cable to my mobile and it couldn't connect in order to access the files from my pc.
So, i decided to restart it, in case something went wrong.
After the shutdown, it can't boot!
Actually, it boots, but it stays for ever at the IDEOS logo. :S
I can boot at the bootloader (hold Vol+,Vol- and Power until the screen turns pink) and the Clockworkmod recovery (hold Vol+ and Power) (v4.0.0.5).
I have the stock rom that this mobile came with, Android 2.2.3 from wind - Greece.
Here is something that may help. From clockworkmod i took a backup of my system and at the final step i saw this at the log:
no sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
however, the backup completed successfully.
What should i do in order to have my mobile back in working state, and if possible, without losing any data?
FYI, i also have an old backup, maybe we can take from there some files that are corrupted/damaged????
thank you in advance for your help!
Here are some more questions:
After the shutdown, it can't boot!
Did you change anything before you booted? i mean in system.
I can boot at the bootloader (hold Vol+,Vol- and Power until the screen turns pink) and the Clockworkmod recovery (hold Vol+ and Power) (v4.0.0.5).
What happens if you reinstall stock rom?

It only means that i didn't back up ext partition in your sd-card. Doesn't have effect.

You can try to flash it throught cwm.

no.
the last thing i did that had to do with the system was to update through market the "fing" app, but that was hours ago.

as i said the backup is old, and there may be a huge data loss.
there isn't a way to repair only the boot files ?
edit:
i see in CWM that there is an option "wipe data/factory reset". Will it work?

[Q] Device bootloops after messed up partition

I once tried to use geno's partition resize, and after a reboot, it cannot boot into system anymore. Stuck at the huawei logo.
Since I'm quite familiar with linux, I tried this solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971266
However, my linux installation didn't show any drives when it's in pink screen mode, so I'm pretty much stuck here.
In Windows 8 it did show two HUAWEI Technologies device (no drivers though) in pink screen mode.
I can't access recovery mode either, holding power + vol up only does normal boot for some strange reason. Anyone can help me out here?

try put official GB dload file on sd card, then put sd card in phone press power up+power down+power...
maybe it'll help you.
I tried that too, and it still bootloops. Not much luck.
Go to recovery and wipe everything. Then, reboot recovery, and then try partitioning again.
I can't get into recovery by pressing power + vol up. It just does normal boot (which bootloops).
If there would be any other way to get into recovery (such as via ADB or update.app) would be highly appreciated.

Yes, you can boot into recovery via adb:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
But, you cannot use that until your phone is booted up.
If that doesn't work, you can follow these instructions to hard reset your phone:
http://www.hard-reset.com/huawei-u8800-ideos-x5-hard-reset.html
Good Luck.
I can't get it to do the hard reset either. It just boots normally, aside from the bootloop.
I believe I need to fix the partition first before I try to reinstall stock. I hear that stock doesn't work with custom partitions. Which is why I'd prefer to at least get some access to the device via USB in order to fix it.
Ah well. It's a failing device anyway. Even before the brick the camera doesn't work anymore, regardless of which ROM I choose. Maybe it's time to move on for me.

Well, I tried this too (in fact I stated it in the first post) but pink screen mode isn't showing any device (I typed in "dmesg" in the Linux Terminal, none is found).
I appreciate your help, though. If I can solve the detection problem, I should be able to recover my phone using this method. I'd be happy to share some logs if it helps.

Hey, this is my first post well here it goes
Step 1 :- Format the sd card and put dload folder in it ( you'll get it from the official rom zip file)
Step 2 :- press and hold vol+ & vol- and then power button, it'll start upgrading
Step 3 :- now here is the tricky part!!! i was stuck here too and gone half mad well, let it reboot it will format cache etc and then bootloops, now turn off the device and then turn on pressing vol+ and power button, or u can try by pressing home, vol+ and power button, u'll b in recovery mode i.e in official rom builtin i guess.
Step 4 :- once in recovery, select reset factory default and clear partition cache, and then reboot!!!! Voila u will b able to finally boot successfully...
Now listen very carefully, u got only one chance here, cause if u reboot ur device again then bootloops will start again so in the first go, root the device by superoneclick and then install recovery i guess u knw all that and then u will be able to return to stock rom by flashing... once u've installed CWM then u r good to go bootloop wont effect ya SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH THOUGH

[Q] Please help guys

I have installed 4.2.2 on nexus 7. As I had skipped account login at welcome screen, i could not login the account. I altered the apk of login. After factory reset my device has hanged on setup on welcome screen. I tried installing custom rom through stock bootloader but the bootloader says installation failed. How do I solve thia problem guys???
subin.nexus7 said:
don't know the exact steps, but i got it out of the APX mode and into the bootloader.
1. Tablet plugged into computer.
2. Held Volume Down + Volume Up + Power (simultatenously) for three seconds
3. And then released all, and pressed Power again.
4. Tablet booted into bootloader.
I thought that unlocking the bootloader ALWAYS voided the warranty, but in anycase I flashed reflashed ALL stock and locked the bootloader. Will be sending it to ASUS now. Thanks again!
EDIT:
So I wanted to verify that it was a CPU problem, and I downloaded StabilityTest again and ran the CPU load test. It crashed within two minutes, and went into AXP mode again. To get it out of AXP mode, the correct instructions:
1. Plug in the usb into computer
2. Hold Volume Down + Volume Up + Power simultaneously for like 15 seconds
3. The bootloader should show up.
4. If it doesn't, unplug the usb cable, and plug it back in and then repeat the these procedures.

Very helpful! I don't have a problem but I've read about others stuck in APX mode. This should be pinned if it works for those stuck in APX. Maybe you should change the thread title to something about APX solution so it draws some attention.

Well... being stuck in APX doesn't necessarily mean your hardbricked. (Corrupt or erased bootloader).
But being hardbricked DOES mean your device will default to APX mode.
To use a mathematical metaphor, one is a SUBSET of the other.
-------
bftb0 has posted an exhaustive list of Nexus 7 button press combos here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133986
... which includes how to pro-actively get into APX mode... although until somebody figures how to nvFlash the N7, APX is sort of redundant.

I'm sort of confused about the relationship between your edited post and what (apparently ?) kieso quoted, but I'll throw out a few suggestions:
1) AFAIK, there is no way to flash a dev ROM using fastboot (only the boot image of a dev ROM can be flashed this way). You said "bootloader", not "custom recovery" ... so that implies using fastboot. If that is not the case, then your use of terminology is not correct. (It's a computer - reporting details correctly is incredibly important).
2) If you bypass the WiFi login, an account can be added at any time later using the settings menu or simply by launching the Google Play (market) app - there is no need to "alter the apk of login", whatever that means.
3) I would recommend at this point that you start completely over by flashing a factory ROM using fastboot - see the sticky thread about returning to stock using fastboot. If you already have the 4.18 bootloader installed, I recommend you avoid like the plague any operation involving flashing the bootloader.
4) It should be obvious from the trouble that you got yourself into that you should learn what nandroid backups are and that you START USING THEM. The first thing you do after rooting is "make a backup", not "flash a ROM"
good luck
Thanq so much. But still some clarification needed
Now What do I do? My nexus 7 can't pass through at welcome screen saying saying unfortunately setup wizard has stopped. and in recovery{i have no custom recovery, I use bootloader 4.18} i cant flash any rom. I just want to start device any how.. any way.. Is there any way??

I guess I am having trouble understanding the sum total of information you have provided - I guess you have omitted some information or mis-stated something. No custom recovery sort of implies a full stock device, but yet you previously mentioned modifying/changing an .apk in /system... normally that would be possible only with a rooted ROM or a custom recovery to do that.
If your tablet is 100% stock, a factory reset of the tablet should allow you to boot once again - at the cost of deleting everything you put on the device, including all files you put on the (pseudo-) SD card.
If that is the case:
- press and hold power+vol-down until the bootloader screen shows up
- use vol-up/vol-down to select "start recovery" and press the power button
- an android lying on it's back should show up; this is the stock recovery splash screen, so
- press power+vol-up simultaneously for about one second - the stock recovery menu should show up
- select factory reset (with vol-up/vol-down) and press the power button.
good luck

when you say at the cost of deleting everything, does this include deleting everything in the bootloader because thats what I did when I used the command "fastboot erase bootloader"

It takes a long time, i had this issue before, just enter recovery manually Volume Down + Power at LG Logo release and press again.
Then flash CM or something it will take a long time but it will fix it.
hey thanks for the reply.
i cannot access recovery at all right now... ill keep trying..
Any other thoughts?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
ive been able to get back into recovery.
timing is very important for this as i thought there was something wrong, but holding down+power from the off state, see lg logo, immediately release buttons, then hold power key gets you to the factory reset screen. push power to reset, and then it boots into twrp recovery...
stuck in twrp
i accidently wiped everything in twrp. now cant boot into android, nor can install a zip. please advise how to copy zip files to internal sd card to install. please advise fast

i always hoped not to be one of those guys, who f****d up their phones to the point of no return. I really screwed up this time. Well, here I'am writing you about my screw up.
I unlocked, rooted, flashed and repaired all kinds of android phones in the past years, never without problems, but I could always fix it somehow. Not so much this time.
Now I'm stuck at Bootscreen with the Zuk logo. I even have problems pinging the phone via ADB.
Sorry for my noobish question guys. Any help would be much appreciated.

I got this translated from a chinese website:
For fastboot mode:
The phone turned off; keep the connection turned off the data cable to the computer, press: [volume down key] [Power Key] waiting to enter the fastboot mode.
For recovery:
Turn off the device
Press and hold Power key
When vibrates Volume UP key + Volume Down key about 10 seconds
Release all key when Android logo appear then you will see Android System Recovery
Use Volume key to select Menu
Use Power key to Confirm
Can you enter any of these 2 modes?

Can y get to fastboot ?
im facing the same problem after i had the stupid idea to lock the bootloader again, before that i flashed the phone successfully with the cm mod recovery and cm 13.
Has anyone found a solution to this ? or do i have to send it back ?
What i did exactly :
I locked the bootloader again and just to test it i tried flashing the recovery again , ofcourse it didn't work which was what i wanted.
Afterwards i rebootet the bootloader with sudo fastboot -i 0x2b4c reboot
now im stuck in a bootloop that i cant even stop , in other words i cant turn my phone off nor can i access the recovery or fastboot
Im feeling so stupid that i locked it again .... i will try to get into recovery after my phone ran out of battery but so far it looks quite bad...does anyone know if i will get a replacement even though it was my fault ? ( i don't need to say that it was my fault ..and the bootloader is now locked again )
UPDATE::
I found a promising thread about this problem, i will report back here if i was successful.

Please help , same problem
I am facing same issue too from 2 days. I didnt even try to flash custom roms or play with boot loader or recovery or anything. All of a sudden my phone entered boot loop. After two three bootloops phone is entering "12 apps optimized of 230 apps" mode, completing optimizing all apps and then failing to start apps, entering boot loop again.
Effort made so far to fix -
1) Went to recovery and cleared cache - didnt work
2) Went to recovery and did factory reset - factory reset did happen but boot loop didnt stop, I realized that factory reset happened because now its saying optimizing 120 apps instead of my 230 apps during the bootloop.
3) Went to recovery, Entered fast boot mode but not able to connect to PC. Fastboot devices is not showing anything. I made sure proper driver is installed after researching on XDA.
4) Went to recovery, Tried "Install update". Didnt install anything but browsed through folder structure and realized my data is intact
It will be great if someone can help me atleast recover my data before I handover phone to service center for fixing boot loop issue.
Same problem

The link is not accessible now. Can you let me know what you have done. My phone is in a boot loop now and showing only Logo and 'powered by Android' message. It keeps turning on and off again and again.
Guys when u are in fast boot mode .. pls install Twrp ... After insatlling that press power button abd vibration comes hold volum doen+volume up button at the same time ..
Then u will be getting recovery Twrp mode .. then connect it to pc and u will see internal srorage in pc...now u have to copy any rom to the phone and install it via Twrp ... Thats all
Sorry For Re-posting Here. This is Solution
Why this is happening ?
Due to Dirty Flash from Zui or from COS/CMOD but suddenly Bootloader gets locked
May be Due to Some Custom Rom which only works with Old Bootloader ( And you are on latest 2.5 Zui QPST Flash)
Reasons are many. I also did same mistake. I flashed ZUI 2.5 using QPST then unlock bootloader using official site installed twrp after wiping cache system and data , Installed Lineage 0S JAN Build then without rebooting installed Lineage Nightly build (Latest) with Gapps After rebooting Phone goes into Restart endless loop on ZUK Logo. Blink and Vibrate .. After 1hr I figured it out but its 5am So slept.
HOW TO FIX ENDLESS REBOOT ON ZUK Logo ?
-> Identity vibrate patterns (Press Power Key I count 6- 7 Vibration pattern ) After long Vibrate immediately remove finger from power key.
->Once its Done (Phone completely off)
Download QPST and Official COS QPST from this Link https://goo.gl/InWQji OR https://goo.gl/iqrnlI (I am personally Very Thankful to D tech Terminal for posting Wonderful video on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Dl6JkAVpuM
<- please install all drivers and software.->) @ankurpandeyvns Thanks bro.
Main Task is here and Lots of Patience is required and You also need to be very Blazing fast to achieve this.
-Once you download and install Qpst open Qfil
-Now press Volume Up only and connect USB (Just press POWER KEY only for 1 sec It will vibrate and connect)
-Without waiting hit Download button.
-Voila It will start flashing your phone again and Hence Your phone is now Revive..
-Once Revive You can use it to again flash custom Rom or stick to stock Rom if you want.
Keep Flashing !!!
Patience is Key here. And Don't lose hope.
:good:
EDITED:
While connecting to pc and by pressing Volume key you also need to press Power key for 1 sec or 2 sec until it gets detected. Thanks addicted777 (for tip)
