Sensor noise ? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hey
My S8 makes a noise when I press the power button to get into the lockscreen. It came after a few weeks. I think its the sensor or so. Its like a *klick*. Its very quite. It only makes it when the face unlock is activated.
My old S8 had it to . Does anyone else have that ''issue''.
And no its not the unlock sound .

but the click is not from the button. It comes from the area over the screen where the led is.

Camera button not waking device?

Seems I can take a picture with the camera button no problem while in the camera app.
Tried sleeping the screen and using the camera button for a quick snap but nothing. It doesn't wake the device at all. And yes the option is on in the settings.
Am I challenged??

You are holding the button until the vibrate, as opposed to just pressing it, right?

I agree. Sounds like faulty hardware.
I would try a device reset before I mess with a return. It's strange, but it made worlds of difference on mine.
keep in mind the camera is controlled by proximity sensor. If you are covering the top, near the speaker of the phone then the camera will assume it is in a pocket and not unlock. This is a feature, not a fault. Hopefully this helps

Alternative way to turn on / wake screen (capacitive buttons / accelerometer)

Hi guys,
Got my Desire HD last Friday and I'm really pleased with it, stunning device. The problem is, I'm using a case which protects the phone nicely and looks decent too but the power button is very tough to press in (let alone without a case TBH). I have Cyangens "Menu Unlock" enabled but I'm wondering if there is a tweak or APK to enable the capacitive buttons when the screen is off so I can turn it on easily (using Button Remapper). Maybe even a shake to enable app to wake the phone. Oh, cover below:
When I had the Galaxy S, I could just wake the screen with the main physical Home button.
When I had the Milestone, there was an APK to allow me to wake the screen with the buttons.
Any help or direction would really be appreciated. Would love to be able to unlock it that easily.
Cheers #auggie2k
Just a quick bump

Buttons will be disabled when phone is asleep. The closest is to try "Tap Tap App" from the Market. Its free. Try and see how it could give you possibilities. Basically, it will allow you to set lock/wake permissions using the proximity sensor.
I use it as an alternative to pressing the power button all the time during shorter phone sleep/wake intervals
Much appreciated Jacob, cheers for the quick reply.
You can try WidgetLocker too, allow you to power up the phone using volume button.

Its possible without much battery drain I remember using Pocketshield with the HD2 where it unlocks when you flip the phone facedown and up or shake from side to side. Seems they're still hung up on Windows till now... I hope they come around to turn to Android soon

You're welcome mate! Test the proximity settings, I used to use "Easy Detection" but found it too sensitive, it unlocks with short finger waves which was cool but also gets screwed up with strong winds when outdoors... lol
Since, I've changed the setting to "safe mode (default)" and it responds well to 2 mild taps. Hope it works for you too!

Just installed "Tap Tap App", works perfect for me as an alternative unlock/lock. Thanks a lot!

How do I disable do not disturb?

Problem:
Phone in my pocket, volume down gets bumped into. The next 3 hours I won't get any notifications. This is incredibly annoying and frustrating.
How in the world can I disable volume down activating do not disturb while the screen is off?
First, the power button has to be bumped first, then the volume down button (various times). Too much bumping.
get a case

The power button does not need to be bumped.
While the phone is sleeping (screen off + short wait), press volume down either once or twice and it will go into do not disturb mode. I can also put on full volume while it's sleeping as well.
Tried what you said. Doesn't happpen to me. Using stock rom.

I restarted the phone and the issue hasn't come back yet. If/when it does I'll post again. Seems to be a weird bug

Issue has just came back. Restarting the phone makes it go away. Seems like we have found a solution! I'll keep a log of how often this happens here.

Which rom are you using? Is Double tap to Wake enabled? Are you using an app to lock the screen? Maybe that app is not locking the screen initially but displaying a black image for a short time before turning the display off.

Stock rom.
Ambient display is disabled.
No App. It did this stock out of the box
RMA would be a better option.
Problem has come back! a week delay this time
I would love an option to disable it on the phone entirely I never use it anyway and it occasionally gets turned on by mistake and I end up missing calls.
Found this in another forum - change DND priority settings to allow calls and messages from anyone. Should fix it!

[Q] It's there any way to keep the buttons on the bottom from lighting up?

I can't find the options in the menu and the search is useless. Abby way to keep them from turning on?
Galaxy Button Lights in the play store.
The "feature" to turn them off was started with s6 and note 5 if I'm not mistaken. I know I had to use the app on my old at&t note 5 as well.

Not on all phones. Weirdly enough my first had it but my second didn't.
It's weird but my S7E doesn't have the 'touch key light duration' option

When I have power save on they don't light up.

But once Power save mode is active, the status bar isn't transparent...

Double-tap to wake works when button showing; Anker Powerline good 4 fast-charging

Two observations that you might find helpful/interesting:
When using AOD, you can always press firmly where the home button is to get to your homescreen or security, regardless of whether the home button is showing or not. But, you can lightly double-tap to wake the phone *only* when the home button is showing. Interesting.
I purchased these Anker cables and they work great for fast-charging. Same mA showing on Ampere as the stock cable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6F8IUM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You can long press where the button would be on a fully blacked out screen with aod off too and screen comes on

Go to Settings -> Display -> Navigation Bar and turn on the Unlock with home button option

Yea, but that option says "Hard press the Home button while the screen is off to skip the Lock screen."
The person above said "long press" when the screen is off. I see no option for that anywhere.
Also, even if that option is turned to "off," you can *still* hard press the home button any time AOD is on.

I'm pretty sure that's what they meant. Could be wrong, I haven't seen anything about a long press.

Mine took the hard or long press option from the beginning. I don't recall changing anything in the settings but I do find that if I'm not pressing in just the right place, some times it won't wake up.
