[Q] Why is it so necesary to factory reset and wipe cache ?

Right now im on froyo and i want to update to the latest stock version which is JPM im just wondering why is it all that necesary to factory reset back to eclair and wipe cache so i can update to JPM. i dont find it logical to factory reset the phone.
can someone please argumentate, why?
To make sure you back up all your data before you try anything and lose it all and end up cursing yourself and everybody else too...

factory reset doesnt reset back to what was on your phone when you bought it, but it resets back the firmware you have, so it'll be like when you just flashed your froyo (unless you deleted some system apps, they will still be missing). Flashing will anyways delete your data, so its not a big deal. I think you need to factory reset because maybe not everything will be wiped while flashing and some trouble might occur due to inconsistencies

Can I factory reset, even after deleting some preloaded apps?

I remember on my gs2, I would get a FC.. But I need to try a factory reset right now but I just don't have my laptop with me until Friday and that's where my backup is of the apps that were removed.. Can I still factory reset even with those apps gone? And root should stay in tacked right?

You mean the Factory reset in Setting? That is a Factory Data Reset. It's only the data, not your SD and root.

You can still perform a factory reset and root access will still be there.

Yes you can. Not an issue.
If you factory reset all you data (images songs contacts) will get wiped.

Note 4 keeps resetting itself

Hi
I've got an SM-N910F on android 6.0.1.
It keeps resetting itself - started doing it every couple of hours. I wiped the cache partition, then factory reset it twice and it's still doing it.
Any idea what the problem could be or how I can fix it? Since the last factory reset, it's started resetting itself every few minutes.
Thank you
Is it worth reflashing the stock firmware with odin? Could this fix issues that a factory reset couldn't fix?

It's certainly a possibility.

How do I give the Xiaomi Mi A1 a thorough factory reset?

Because my phone came with a third party app installed (Caping, some kind of Indonesian news app), I didn't trust it being sent to me straight from the factory without someone having interfered and possibly installed the app. So, I wanted to perform a factory reset. I can factory reset my phone through Settings, but is this a thorough reset? Is it possible to do a 'complete' reinstall using only the stock phone, so no root, no custom recovery, no tools? Let this Q&A thread be a guide for factory reset methods for our phones and what the main advantages of the methods are.
So something like http://www.stechguide.com/xiaomi-mi-a1-stock-firmware/ is not what u are looking for?
U can enter stock recovery?
