Decreased battery life with July 2017 update - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Has anyone noticed sharp decrease in battery life and the device running warmer after the July 2017 system update? I'm a light user and my device is all stock (no roots, unlocks, or hacks). With full charge, unplugged in the morning my X compact used to be at about 80% at the end of the day. After the July update this morning, it's at 20%. Also I noticed the device itself feels a bit warmer during use.
Looking at the battery stats, I don't see anything suspicious. I have Android System, Phone Idle, and Android OS as top 3 offenders, but neither of them has a drastic share.
Has anyone noticed this? Were you able to identify the cause and resolve it?

I have not updated yet but as far as I know most of the time screen should be on top 2 or 3, I suggest you to clear cache of you apps specially media storage and restart phone see if it changes anything

I have the same issue, but I had to upgrade straight from 7.0 (Sony doesn't like to deliver the X Compact updates in Italy, apparently...). The first day has been awful, then it became more decent (still worse than with 7.0). As usual I forget that clearing the cache may help. I just did it now and rebooted, let's see if it improves things.

This was indeed it! I cleared the cache (settings -> storage & memory -> tap hero image -> internal shared storage -> cached data), then rebooted, now my phone is back to its previous great battery life. After about 8 hours off charger I have 87% 1d 19 hours left. And I verified that "screen" is indeed in the top 3 for battery usage, and "Android System" is out.

I have the same battery standby and sot as with 7.0. same usage pattern.

Wow! Brilliant! I didn't know how to clear my cache (this device is unrooted) and it was annoying me! My battery life was fine before this after the update BTW.

I tried everything (clear cache from menu, clear cache with pageup+power btn, reset app settings, ...) but battery life after 7.1.1 update is a lot worse than with 7.0. Still phone idle as top consuming app, followed by google services and then screen... in standby battery drains about 3%/hour, that's incredibly high... do you recommend something else to try? I can't perform a factory reset now, but honestly I doubt that it could resolve anything...

[Q] Weird Battery Drain + Indicator Problem

I'm not sure if it's more appropriate to post here
or on the custom ROM forum itself, but here's my battery issue:
Issue: Abnormally fast battery drain. My battery would
be fully charged, and almost immediately start draining until
it'd show 1% within 2 hrs. Screen would be off mostly (normal
use).
Been on a custom ROM since January 2017 (crDroid) and have had no problems with it since,
except 3 days ago, when the problem first appeared.
Things that are ON: LTE data (or Wi-fi), Auto apps update on
Google Play Store (never been problematic before), Location,
Things that are OFF: Bluetooth, ScreenCast, Caffeine
When I check Battery in Settings, the numbers don't add up.
I'd have battery indicator at 70% for example, but Screen,
Android System, all other apps would add up to only 7%. So
that's a whopping 23% unaccounted for.
But here's the weird thing: it drains fast until 1%, then at 1%,
the phone is supposed to initiate automatic shutdown like it has before.
When this issue cropped up, the phone keeps going for about 6 hours
or so before shutdown is started. Checking Kernel Adiutor occasionally,
I'd see a much slower decrease in voltage which probably reflects
more accurately the power drawdown situation.
Things I've done:
-clear cache (both through File Explorer and TWRP Recovery)
-clear batterystats.bin
-calibrate battery after full charge/discharge (via Root Essentials,
which basically does the same thing as manually deleting batterystat.bin,
if I'm not mistaken)
-Resetting App Preferences via Setting/Battery
None of the above has worked. Any idea what might be wrong?
My device is a Zuk Z1, with a 4100mAh battery. It usually lasts me more
than a day on normal use, but as the attached pic shows, it's at 96%
yet without having used any apps yet, has only 2 hrs of juice left.
I've tried reflashing my ROM, wiping everything including formatting data
yet nothing has worked.
I'm a light user, as I don't play games or watch videos on my phone.
Neither do I use graphics-intensive apps. I haven't used processor-intensive apps
that require constant GPS (like Google Maps, Waze) since then.
Battery issue, just replace it

I guess you have bad habit of charging your phone when it reaches to 5-6%? Am I right? If not and you charge your phone in a healthy basis, then I guess change the ROM or re-flash it. It might work. Or else replace the battery.

Abnormally Fast Battery Drain

I've posted in the Android General Q&A and
in the custom ROM forum itself, but have gotten no responses.
A search on XDA and other sites yielded nothing similar to my issue, so here—

EDIT: OK, I've flashed 3 other ROMs: Citrus-CAF, NucleaROM and stock, and the problem persists.
By doing the above, I've crossed out the possibility of it being the ROM. Neither is it the battery
itself, because it would've shut down by itself at 1%, yet at 1% I can last 6 or 7 hours of light use.
Anyone out there have any idea?

Try XOSP. was very good by tech mashido for battery.
And 1% don't last that much. It's a long prediction.

Nexus 6p battery

Hello again guys, I have a situation, I've checked my battery usage and ''Android system and Android OS'' use a lot of it, almost as much as the screen. I don't know if this is normal.
For ex. in the last 24h i've used facebook/instagram, camera app (a lot) messenger, whatsapp.
I'm using android N 7.1.2. stock Nexus 6P.
I can't add photos because I'm new.
Usage:
Screen - 18%
Android system - 18%
Android OS - 12%
Thanks,
Victor
Hello...
Try rebooting into recovery and try wiping cache partition. Maybe that will solve your issue.
Good luck...

This is a common problem for many of us, there are a lot of threads talking about this, check the thread "Nougat battery problem" in the nexus 6p section, I've found it very useful several times.

Google has been setting the stock kernel settings at high performance values since about the January OTA which is why Google, the operating system and the screen are using so much more of the battery than in the past. I can't think of a good reason Google would do this other than to burn out these phones faster, but whatever the reason they are definitely doing it. If you root and flash a custom kernel the difference in power consumption is very noticeable.
Thanks for the support, I've done 'wipe cache partition' and I've installed AccuBattery.
No changes so far, but something strange is happening, on the phone battery settings SOC in 3h.2min with computed power use 590Mah, Screen16%, Android System 16% and Android OS 12%, Messenger 5%, Instagram 5%
while in the AccuBattery app it says -
Screen on 67% 2.092 mAh in 2h56 min. - Screen off 13% 449Mah, - Per-app Usage(mAh) messenger 505, Instagram 439, Google photos 250, youtube 195.
Who's right?
Have a great day,
Victor

In short, I don't think you can rely upon the capacity % breakdown in Google's battery settings. Just looking at your SOT consumption rates I'd say Battery Settings is off. 3 hrs of SOT uses much more than only 590 mAh. Also don't mistake AB for an accurate battery "drain" app either- it is designed as a battery "charge" app. The dev states in his documentation that it was never intended to accurately measure app or process current drain. What does AB tell you your estimated battery capacity is on the health tab, and based on how many charging sessions? Is your bootloader unlocked? If so you could temporarily boot TWRP without over-writing stock recovery (fastboot boot) and then wipe the dalvik / ART cache which may straighten things out for you.

Excessive battery drain of "Android System" in B192, EMUI 4.0

Good morning guys.
These days my Mate 8 has had an excessive consumption of battery due to the process "Android System", with an abnormal percentage of 40-60% of consumption. I've done a wipe cache, I've deleted applications, I've done cleaning the folders in memory, but not lower than 40%. The process has come to consume 2010 mah.
I do not know what can be, the only explanation I can think of is that Google is gathering information in some process, but I have deactivated everything I could (GPS in Gapps, history, voice, etc.)
I do not want to upgrade to Nougat because of the battery problems of many users. I'm thinking of doing factory reset but I'm going on a trip these days and I can not for now.
The screen hours are around 4:30 - 5:30 approx (usually that is 7 or 8). The funny thing is that it goes into deep sleep without problems.
Does anybody else have this?
P.D: these days I have been without Wifi, only with 4G, I do not know if that can influence this.

Bixby Global Actions and Bixby Services causing high Android System battery drain?

Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy S8+ used to hit 5 hours of screen on time minimum. But lately it has been tanking at about 1 percent every 3 minutes or so. When checking battery stats, it says that it is a high android system battery usage. When checking apps for potential battery drain, Bixby Global Actions and Bixby Services was 84 percent of the Android System battery drain. Please assist? Has this happened to anyone else? Should I factory reset?
Same thing happened to me right after the Oreo update. Last night I disabled all Bixby related apps, will see how it affects battery life until tonight. will update.

Perfect. Thank you so much. Look forward to your update. I did perform a factory reset so will also update after a few days of use
Any update on this? I was getting terrible battery life on my S9 due to high Android System drain. I did a factory reset and everything was great until I set up Bixby. Then Android System started killing battery life. I disabled everything related to Bixby but it still continued. Just did another factory reset and all is good again, but I'm scared to accidentally hit that button.
Hi,
Unfortunately still no news. I've tried clearing my cache multiple times. But still cannot find the culprit. I have managed to make my standby battery drain decent by updating to the latest March security update. But there is still a high Android system battery drain when using the phone. About 1% battery every 3 minutes.
I'm in the same boat. I did some research and found users complaining about bixby global action and bixby service draining thier batter after the oero update. I looked at my own results and found them draining 178% each! I just disabled the both of them but I'm still losing 1% about every 4 or 5 minutes. Going recharge my phone and see what results I get.
Got sick of this oreo update, the battery isnt as good as nougat even with crd7 and also if you set display on wqhd and u use app pair , after that when u hit the multitaskig button there is an animation stuter, i cannot cope with this.
And I had problems with batery but now it is better.
Clean cashe in recovery menu
Set Wi Fi to energy saving
Disable Google services in backround
With this now my batery is 15 - 20% better.
With or without Bixby - same.
My soft is CRD7
