I'm looking apps with cool, informative or good looking live tiles. Partly because I want to make my screen more alive and partly to show off my Surface for the iPeople
So please let me know what apps you can reccommend. My contribution to this is the awesome package tracking app "Package Tracker":
http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/en-us/app/package-tracker/0cd606d5-c0fb-46c8-b9dc-1459ac714e17
Well, the in-built apps have a lot of live tile information already, but in case you want more, I suggest you could try this: http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/en-au/app/asparion-clock/3b5bf892-cf9d-4f0a-b5a4-7bbbe958e309 It's a clock tile, and you can customize it any way you want! It's better than having to open up the charms bar to check the time!
Then there's the FlipToast app, as I'm a huge social networking buff, I like all my notifications on my screen!
These apps have cool livetiles but i dunno if youll like em
Jetpack Joyride,Geek Trivia,allrecipes,preinstalled ones,khan academy, fliptoast,facebook touch etc
There are also apps which let u create your own live tiles
Hit thanks if i helped
I'm adding the very good RSS reader "Nextgen Reader" that has a nice live tile.

Yeah, you probably won't be able to use that method anymore. I'm pretty sure you can only use the Maps app itself now. If you tap the icon on the right-hand side of the search bar, that's navigation. I'm just guessing here, but there's probably an intent for it, so maybe somebody has written a little app using the old navigation icon that will launch Maps with that intent? Of course, you can also easily get to navigation by voice command. That may or may not be an option for you. I've been trying to use voice a little more, because it actually works really well.
Navigation blue icon missing
hi,
so this is normal behaivour of 4.4
this changes is very bad for me, classic navigation icon shoulb be. Voice method will be alternate new feature.
ı Hope this blue navigation icon is came .
thanks...
Ah, I think I just found something that's almost like the old navigation icon.
Tap and hold in any unused space of the screen. Pick Widgets, then add the widget called "Directions". It makes you enter something for the source and destination, but you can just use a single space for each, then tap Save. The new widget should do basically what the blue arrow used to do.
Navigation blue icon missing
yes, google directions are similar to navigation icon.
I test it it works well.
Thanks
Please have a look at my new app Now Cards for Zooper. I've used tsasker integration to make some of the widgets more unique - there's auto updating news widgets (more feeds will be made on request) and one which shows you your latest text message.
They're alongside calendar, weather, clock, etc. widgets. Take a look and make sure you read the description before you download. If you've got any problems, just post and let me know.
EDIT: The free version now contains a facebook widget too! (post 10 for pictures). This will stay as 4x1, but this, alongside a 4x2 and 4x3 will be coming to the paid version in the next few days
Paid version - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.est1994.zwskin.nowcards
Free version - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.est1994.zwskin.nowcards
Very cool idea, few questions.
Is this a "Google Now" replacement?
Its almost identical to "Goolge now" , whats the advantages of using Zooper and Tasker?
Could you add other buttons and functionality to the cards aswell?
- like say the incoming text card, can you add a reply button? that would pop up a reply text box etc?
- Or a card that has the ability to show current sound volumes? or the ability to change them from card?
- If you could add other app info like facebook (probably insane to get configured) it would be an awesome "Launcher" type of app etc.
Are you allowed to post links to paid apps on xda? Cant remember the rules (Current)
other than those, looking great! good luck.
Thanks for the support! Its kind of intended as a Now replacement, I love having Google now built into the Google launcher, but can't deal without any customizations, son its really intended for people with similar ideas.
Using Tasker gives a lot more options in terms of what can be displayed! Many things from the internet and almost any stat from your device can be displayed oince you combine the two - tasked is a lot more powerful than Zooper.
Unfortunately some if what what you're asking is still a little out of range. Things which involve interaction such as volume sliders or a functional reply box are not do-able from my app, however, you could create your own tasked scene and launch it as an OnTap action on the widget. I'd love to bundle this with the app my pself but I've found that Tasked scenes do not translate well across changes in screen size. I could definitely add one for current volumes though if you wanted? And anything else you might like? I will look into Facebook tomorrow, but its late here so I need some sleep!
And I'm not sure about posting paid links, I meant to double check the rules before posting but totally forgot! I didn't hear anything last time I did it though so fingers crossed
EDIT: I couldn't resist having a quick look - Facebook notifications can (and will) be made as a widget, but actual feeds cannot
These look great! But I am unclear as to when these show onscreen...are they always on widgets or just popup when info arrives? Thanks
They are all always on. Everything always has information to display! Are you asking more specifically about the Tasker widgets? If so, tasker collects information every 2 hours by default, with each collection gaining 5-7 stories (depending on provider). Only one story is 'given' to Zooper at a time, with the displayed story changing every 30 minutes.
I hope that answers your question?
I know this may not be exactly what you had in mind, but here's a Facebook widget I knocked up. There's also a 4x2, but that's just a shorter version of the large one. What do you think?

Looks great. Upon pressing it. Takes you right to Facebook?
To me flip book is annoying. But . I'm looking for a "sense" type of home page. You ever seen HTC sense home pages? If you could make the boxes a transparent black etc. Lol I love the Google now aspect, but their new material colors are... Not what I like. Lol but that's a great start. Smaller font perhaps.
Thanks for the feedback I thought about smaller fonts, but I wanted it wall to be readable at a glance and to follow Google as much as possible, but yes, clicking on the FB widget could take you straight to Facebook, but I've left all the shortcuts blank so you can pick where you want it to take you, possibly the notifications page directly?
If you send some HTC sense pics, maybe I'll think about making some wpof their widgets at some point too?
I decided to do a free version of this too - its got all the 4x1 widgets, but with none of the tasker integration or 4x2 widgets, so you can still get a good effect. Follow the link to grab it! Lasker

Here's the new facebook widget, submitted to the free version already and coming to the paid version soon!
Hi, all!
Welcome to the official thread for FCC Car Launcher - a customizable auto launcher for android head units (Rockchip MTCB/MTCD+ and FlyAudio) as well as android smartphones/tablets.
Its major features:
- Full function launcher with supports of all standard third party android widgets
- Deep integration with head units (MCU etc). My mission here is to implement as many functions in the launcher itself as possible. In case of Rockchip devices to get rid of most xposed modules (my deep respect to their authors, great job, but they sometimes slow down the device significantly) and replace them with the normal built-in functions.
- Customization. The FCC Cat Launcher has some built-in customizable widgets which can help to make your home screen more personal (you can adjust widgets size, colors, features etc).
- Built-in music widget with support of FM Radio (with ability to give names to radio stations), Spotify, Google Music, PowerAmp, PC Radio, Neutron and Stellio players.
- One-click navigation widgets with quick route building (supports Waze, Google Maps, Yandex Navigator and other navigation apps).
- Phone calls via connected phone using 'Ok Google call [name]' request or by clicking on built-in Contact widget.
- Other features.
FAQ
1. I love MiniMap but can you put other navigation app there?
Unfortunately this is not possible. MiniMap is part of FCC and is based on Google Maps API for Android. It is not another app (not even a Google Maps app), that can be just replaced within the FCC interface. Android does not allow to integrate third party apps (navigation apps) inside another third party apps (FCC Launcher).
If your head Unit supports Split Screen (ie can display Two apps at the same time), this can be partially done with split screen.
2. Is it possible to cache maps for MiniMap for offline use?
- Yes. In the latest FCC Launcher beta version you can select Offline Mapbox map and download it to your device.
- For Google Maps - No. Caching is directly prohibited by Google license for using Google Maps API (MiniMap). Moreover, Google even does not provide developers with such a caching API. Therefore you will need a constant internet connection to use MiniMap. The somewhat good news is that the map itself does some short-term caching on your device, so it saves some data (but not too much).
3. Notifications are only popping up for a split second / flashing. How to fix this?
That means that animations are disabled on your device.
- Go to the device's Developer settings: FCC settings - System - Advanced - Developer settings (if it asks for code - it's "7890" for AllWinner T8).
- Scroll down and change 3 parameters "Window animation scale", "Transition animation scale" and "Animation duration scale" from "Animation off" to "Animation scale 1x".
4. Routing on Google Maps in MiniMap doesn't work. It asks for API key. What should I do?
- Turn-by-turn navigation in built-in Google Map fragment is directly prohibited by Google. Therefore it is not possible to use it. .However if you have your own Google Developer account (Google Maps API key) you can use it to draw a simple route line on the MiniMap. Please note that it will NOT have any turn-by-turn data like distance to next turn or estimated time of arrival.
I do not recommend to purchase Google Developer account just for this feature:
- Google Developer account will cost money for you (a one-off payment) which is reasonable only if you really want to develop android apps.
- Routing requests cost money. But currently Google provides a 200$ per month free usage for Maps, Routes, and Places every month which should be enough for individual usage.
Links: Get API key, Pricing. Don't forget to enable Maps API and Directions API in your Google Cloud Console.

Translation to your language
Guys, many of you suggested your help with translation of the app to your native languages.
I have setup a translation project on OneSky site.

Beta channel: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/ru.speedfire.flycontrolcenter
(I would suggest to stick with the release channel since beta channel can be really buggy sometimes and is intended for beta testers only)
As a developer I will be happy to discuss with you any ideas or issues.
Here is a couple of tutorials:

Thank you! Great launcher in deed! I really love many options, customisations and support for widgets!
Using it for some time and works great on MTCB with Malaysik ROM.
Highly recommended.

Well it was posted in the Android Auto forum so thought I would ask. Seems its not relevant to this section then.
this would be the right forum:

Agreed. I've already asked moderators to move this thread there (along with the other launcher's threads which are located here). Hope they can do this.

Great to have this official thread at right place
I would like to suggest new widget, if you are wiling:
Altitude. In addition to existing build-up widgets (odometer, speed), it would be nice to have altitude. For some of us enjoining off-road adventures in high mountains, it would be nice to have a snap view of GPS altitude.

I've just sent a new version to BETA channel with two new features:
1. Auto-brightness with relatively good control on the levels:

Wow! Great! Never seen such prompt reaction to feature requests Thanks!
BTW, your auto brightness control is great. For users wondering why so many sliders I'll tell that I struggled with 'dumb' auto brightness (with no additional control beside day/night levels) as they are either too bright or too dimm in dusk or dawn. So it is great to have it customisable to your needs.

1.
Latest beta crashes of I go to FCC settings (enters the main settings screen but crashes if I select FCC settings). So I could not access new auto brightness config to check how it works.
2.
Altitude works nicely. I'll suggest to round it to integer (remove decimals). Decimals take valuable space in widget and are basically useless as GPS altitude precision is in meters (even tens of meters to be exact in commercial GPS units)

Ok. Thanks for info. I'll check. What type of device do you have?
For now you can access the same setting from Brightness widget.

They are allowed. This launcher supports all third party android widgets.
Moreover it has a built in music widget which supports: fm radio (with ability to give names to radio stations), Spotify, Google Music, PowerAmp, PC Radio, Neutron and Stellio players.
I suggest to make a YouTube video on a how to/overview of the launcher. The price is a bit high . I will rate this launcher now at a max of 3.99 dollars. For the premium version. Now it looks like you what to make fast money . I see this before with a lot of new apps. At the and it all goes wrong. Sorry to say this. Thanks for the nice developments at this stage

Hold a finger on it for a second and move the widget to the cross:
Been using this launcher for the past couple of days. Works really well (px5 head unit). Gonna try to make a video of it soon. Keep updating and adding features, before this I was using Car Launcher Pro, but that seems abandoned. Basically what I'm always looking for is an attractive and functional launcher where buttons and text are large. Could we get a screensaver with time, current song, speed, and weather info on a black background (like in Car Launcher pro, only there it only showed time)

I think I can, but first I need to understand better why don't you just setup a separate screen with large widgets (this is all possible with FCC Launcher). Many users told me that the launcher helped them to get rid of screensavers since all the info can be made large enough and is available.
So, what do you really want from screensaver what is not available now via home screen? Thanks.
99% of my driving, I know where I'm going and I only need music and GPS speed info displayed on my head unit. On longer trips, even if I know where I'm going, I'll use Google Maps to help me keep track of how the journey is progressing, but I don't really need the entire full screen map.
What I'd like to do is have a launcher screen that has all this shown, all the time, so I rarely need to open an app. The last part of the puzzle is the next turn navigation information... So far I've discovered Google Maps and Waze don't offer widgets for this, but haven't looked at any other navigation apps.
I've also tried several car-specific launchers and found FCC Car Launcher can kind of do it (if you give it your own Google Maps API key), but this launcher runs very slowly on my cheap unit.
Does anyone know of any way I can do this?
