i just got an 8gb sd card for my xda star. when i used it with the shipped card reader i was very pleased to achieve about 20mb/s
now that i have it in my phone it's only about 1mb/s maybe even less.
how fast does your usb interface work?
1mb/s=10Mbits
10Mbits=USB1.1
It's normal speed for phone without usb2.0

the specs say, it's a usb 2.0 link so i expected more
My card is Sandisk 1GB, but it slow too...
Just wondering if this has 3.0 or 2.0 USB? All the spec sheets just say it has it but not which one

The A15 SOC is capable of USB 3.0; whether or on it is actually put to use, I have no idea. If it isn't, hopefully a developer can find a way to make it work.
In theory it should be USB 3.0 since the Exynos 5250 supports it, however it may be a moot point if the CPU and flash memory can't handle 3.0 speeds.
The new ARM based chromebook is also based on Exynos 5520 with 2g of ram etc and is also made by Samsung, so we can expect (??) this chromebook would have similar performance with the N4 (the chromebook does have lower resolution, which does not affect the speed of usb ports). According to Anandtech.com's review of the chromebook

Disclaimer: Chrome OS of course is different from Android and these are two hardwares, so the two could have very performance... But until the devices are actually released I hope that anand's review could be of some use...

Nobody has it, so I wouldn't expect a response for two more weeks.

I have a MK808 but I need something that can have gigabit ethernet and USB 3.0. I'm now using a HTPC at home and I have gigabit network at home, so falling back to 10/100 on USB2.0 is not something I like. Same for HDD speeds.
Would there be anything in the market with USB3.0 and GigEth and/or e-Sata etc? I heard about Samsung HomeSync but it seems not available yet (and pretty expensive!)

there's no cheap(ish) SoC with usb3 or native gigabit 3 support at this moment, you'll have to wait at least 2014 for the next generation.
probably your best option will be the new wave of bay trail minipc that will get out next year.
Yeah, looks like. The two boards that came to my sight are the Arndale and Odroid-XU. Odroid-XU is interesting. Both have USB3.0 ports so can accomodate a gigeth and USB3.0 disk. Arndale also seems to carry a sata interface... Both are pretty expensive, but Odroid-XU is tempting

check http://cubieboard.org/tag/cubietruck/ it has native sata and gigabit ethernet - cpu is a bit underpowered (allwinner a20, more or less on par with your mk808) but as those interface arent built over usb2 they should perform nicely.
this too has to be released but it should be nearly ready and pretty cheap, with good linux support if needed.
Thanks. Interesting indeed. However I think we need to check if this CPU really has the sata data lines or if it is bridged through some USB 2.0 bus.

allwinner a31 got the gbit interface but its missing sata interface, rockchip soc are missing both.
So I add the cubbieboard to the mix as well. I'm not sure if these carry SPDIF output though for optical DTS & AC3 5.1 sound.
I also saw the Utilite. It has dual gigeth, DVI and HDMI outputs. It also has mSATA and SPDIF. Based on Freescale i.Mx6 A9 1.2ghz. But it does not have USB3.0, it's a pity In this case, I would need to make some hole in the case to take out the mSATA port as a SATA port and maybe connect it to some external HDD station.

Having UFS 2.0 storage is going to make this phone behave like a proper flagship. Slow filesystem performance has been my main complaint with Nexus phones and my Pixel C up to this point. This should go a long way towards improving the user experience.
Edit: The Pixel phones also have USB 3.1 Gen 1 (formerly called USB 3.0), meaning that file transfers are possibly going to be significantly faster. Those of us on XDA will be very happy about this, as transferring files to and from the phone will most likely be a lot faster now.
I am excited about this!

I've always looked over the Samsung fence in awe of their UFS, very glad this made the cut. Now to try and find a USB C 3.1 retrofit for my PC :/

Also just remember, too. USB 3.1 Gen 1 is just the new name for USB 3.0. Both are 5 Gbps. If you have a USB 3.0 port, you have USB 3.1 Gen 1. That card I linked is a Gen 2, which supports the 10 Gbps speed.

Thanks, but I only have a Mini ITX with a GTX 1080 filling its ONE PCI Port
Good point about Gen 1, I don't think even UFS will max out a 5Gbps bus though. What I'm really after is USB C PD in a computer which is going to be costly and require a lot of new bits methinks.

Yeah that's a whole other ball of wax. I wonder if there is a USB PD power injector kind of like they have for PoE. If not, there's your million dollar idea

Asus has a unit that fits in a 5.25 slot (another luxury my tiny computer case doesn't have) that connects to some wacky connector that looks like 4 sata slots as well as 2 12v molex that can do USB PD but what do you know, you need a specific motherboard that costs the world.
Most of the new Z170 chipset motherboards have the gen 2 usb c slot.
I know mine does.

You need SATA express and molex/sata power to get USB C PD on your front panel, I don't think the embedded Mobo ports can push out 30W.

Cheaper cable for charging only I suppose. 3.0 C cables are much thicker.

Most people don't have a PC that has a type C port, so no need to waste cash on a 3.0. Also, I don't know of any LONG length type C cables that even support 3.0+ USB standard while also supporting fast charge via type C standards. At least they were nice, unlike Samsung, to include a C to C AND a true USB 3.0 A to C (Samsung's are A to C 2.0).
One has to think in the future... if that is available they should have included a c-c 3.0
If this a phone that whats to be compared to iphone 7, they can't cut corners!!!

If only they added f2fs with Moto Z mount options over it and lazytime mount option and dynamic f-sync. THEN it'll be equivalent to a high-end desktop ssd.
