Wifi issues on certain networks - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

I'm having an issue with my new xperia x compact where certain networks in my office the wifi will drop to a crawl after a few minutes. The main wifi network at my office is where I seem to have the most problem, speedtest shows Download: 0.86 mbps and upload: 1.19, on my nexus 5 sitting right next to it i get basically 20mbps u/d. If I turn off the wifi and turn it back on I can get those speeds on my first test but every test after that the network drops down to nothing.
Some networks I have connected to and tested I have not seen a problem like this, any suggestions? i'm running the newest firmware 7.1.1
Thanks
EDIT: Problem is resloved it was an issue with the ubiquiti equipment we have, for some reason my device was being put into a restricted group that was limited to 1mbps, once I moved to the main group everything was working perfectly.

[Q] Painfully slow WiFi speeds, anyone else?

Hi there, I got a Magic (32A) with FroyoRedux, SPL 1.33.0010 and Radio 3.22.20.17. Everything works perfect, except for one thing: the WiFi speed. At july, I was visiting my parents in other city, I also updated my ROM while I was there. At my parents' house, with WiFi connected to a 8mbps internet connection, I got full speed (tested using speedtest.net app). About 3 or 4 weeks ago, when I got home, also via speedtest.net app, I got a fair speed (3mbps) via WiFi. I have 15mbps at home, but I though it was OK, since its fast enough for most applications I use. But, since then, my WiFi speed is limited to a extremely slow rate, always slower than my 3G speed. I have 600kbps at 3G, and I get, in the best results, 500kbps via WiFi (most of the times, it gets between 100 and 200kbps), even without any other device connected to my router. I tried using static IP, no success (actually, I was unable to connect while using static IP, even with all the settings done correctly). Using an app called WiFi analyzer, I can see that no network next to my house is using the same channel as my router does, so channel interference is also not the problem. I know a setting in HTC WinMo devices which let the user to choose between better wifi performance or better battery life, but I was unable to find such settings in Android.
So, I'd like to know if it is a known issue, or if someone out there has the same problems as me. I've seen many Droid and Hero owners having similar issues, but nobody with a Magic.
And sorry for any typos I may have commited, my english is not that good, I'm brazilian

[Q] awful Nexus 10 wifi speeds

First time poster here. I've searched all the threads and couldn't find anything on my specific issue.
Had the Nexus 10 for about a week and noticed streaming YouTube and movies was EXTREMELY slow. Slower than my Galaxy Nexus on the same WiFi network (my network speed is about 18-20 Mbps). I finally did a speed test and noticed that my 10 was getting awful results...sometimes 3-6 Mbps while sometimes it'd get up to 10-13. My Galaxy Nexus gets between 14-18 Mbps consistently. For my 10, every speed test fluctuates between 3 to 13 and it's just so inconsistent.
Now, I don't have any connectivity issues. It never drops the signal and I'm always connected, it just goes super slow to the point of YouTube videos not loading.
I'm not a wizz, but I use ATT uverse and use the router they give you. I'm not sure if it's a router issue or a Nexus issue.
I've restarted the nexus, turned off the WiFi optimization and turned the WiFi off and on. I had a ton of issues with my nexus 7 (main reason I switched to 10) and I really don't want to ship the device back to Google. Any suggestions??

For starters when you toggle WiFi optimization you need to reboot for the setting to completely turn on/off.
What ROM / Kernel combo are you using? If that is stock then it is likely the router.
ISP routers are usually cheap, they don't handle multiple device traffic very well. One thing you can do is change the stock/auto settings they come with as they are less than desirable. Lower channels/and or Auto Channel (in both 2.4 and 5 GHz), QoS, software static IP, and even Google DNS can all interfere with your router. First go into build.prop and look for the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 lines and delete them, reboot. Try that. If issues persist go into router firmware and change all the Auto settings to a preset. Even something as simple as your phone logged on at the same time could interfere if the channel is saturated. Take everything off the WiFi except for the n10 and try that. Getting a 3rd party router with dual band / 802.11n support is ideal.
The least likely issue is that it could be a hardware issue with your n10.

Wifi speed going down to 1mbps

Hi,
I have realized that my wifi connection drops down from more than 20 to only 1 Mbps with my lg g2. It happens with 2 routers and seems that if I reconnect the phone then I go back to more than 20 (and short later in goes down again). Any idea what can be?
No suggestions on this one? I tried the location services changes with no success. I would say it is some app causing issues, but no idea which one could be...

got exactly the same problem
switching wifi off an on solves the problem for 2 minutes or so. then it drops to 1mbps again. tried different routers.
I figured out that it only concerns internet traffic. LAN traffic remains at full speed.
WHO can help please? :cyclops:
hmmm. wonder if this is the same problem a lot nexus 5 owners have including me.. there's quite a big thread on it in n5 QA section
there's no fix but workaround solutions include running in 2g mode or turning off data when on WiFi and even making a script to do so automatically when entering WiFi areas.

thank you for that interesting link.
unfortunately the solution turning mobile data off didn't worked for me.
I also tried static IP instead of DHCP - no success.
one strange thing, as already mentioned: LAN traffic to my computer works perfectly with max speed. (copying files e.g.)
so, wifi works in principle. It's about internet traffic only.
but which kind of software/hardware is able to distinguish between internet- and local traffic?

how do you troubleshot wifi issues?

i did the basic checking and didnt find any problems
i got galasxy s5 tmobile 4.4.2 android stock rom rooted
and it supposedly supports 5g wifi but when i use it the wifi just dies out after some time and becomes like dial up speeds.
facebook doesnt even load pictures or update
same thing happends with reglar wifi but after a longer period of time
im suspecting my router but dont know for sure i got a brand new modem router n600 c3700-100nas with 50mbps comcast connection
i already set it to free channel on both 2.4 and 5g wifi also checked all the settings on the router its all normal
ran the speed test on the phone but it keeps using wireless network to run it and gets 84.38mbps tops depending on the day
and when i switch to cellphone network its fast i got 3gb cap so i try to conserve
wifi at home sucks ass and at work i have an older router and its good there.
wifi analyzer shows signal strength between 50-65dbm most of the times
but wifi 5g signal strength is alwayss weaker for some reason
You are right, 5ghz band will always be weaker, the higher the band the shorter the range, so 2.4ghz(standard) will go mjch farther that 5ghz. If this is an issues with both the channels i would for sure check the router for issues, if its only happening on the 5ghz band i'd just stick to 2.4ghz unless you REALLY want to be on 5ghz.
Sent from my SM-G900A using Tapatalk
is there any tools to test wifi that can tell me where the problem is?
ive been testing from my desktop and from cellphone best i can but my network skills are just slightly above noob.
i have some free tools on desktop for network troubleshooting but i havent used them yet(just downloaded)
on the phone i couldnt find many
im looking for some monitoring tools maybe ones that show graphs or something to show me whats goin on during the slow down times and what might be causing it.
if i remember correctly its not the wifi signal because that stays good all the time

5GHz Wi-Fi Issues - SM-T510

Hello,
I just purchased this Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) SM-T510 tablet a few days ago and I've had strange issues with 5GHz Wi-Fi from the start.
The problem is that when I'm connected to my 5GHz wireless network and open particular apps (that were not already running or in the background), the apps have no connectivity at all and after waiting several minutes might still not have connectivity or run at a very low network speed (0-3Mbps). The apps I have experienced these issues with so far are Discord, MX Player/VLC Player (when trying to run files from local network), Firefox browser and Play Store (when downloading or updating apps).
Chrome, YouTube and Speedtest run fine whenever I'm connected to the network and start them, but Speedtest sometimes gives a download speed of 2-6 Mbps and other times 80+Mbps or more. Upload speed is always 170Mbps or more. Server does not matter. Chrome rarely shows a "website not available" screen for like 0,5 seconds before succesfully connecting to a website.
However, if I launch for example Discord in Pop-up view and then run Speedtest in the background, suddenly Discord gets full connectivity as soon as I start the speed test even though normally it would take minutes or not get connectivity at all.
The Wi-Fi settings in android show that the connection speed to the router is around 433 Mbps despite the connection working very slowly even within local network.
The issues persist even when I'm next to the router and have disconnected every other device from the Wi-Fi.
My Galaxy S7 and Nexus 7 are also connected to the same 5GHz network and do not have any connection issues with any apps and S7 always gets around 250Mbps down and Nexus 7 150Mbps down on speedtest.
However, If I'm connected to the same network on 2.4GHz, everything just...completely works. Discord, Video Players and browsers have full connectivity and speed as soon as I start them. No issues at all. Speedtest gets 40-50Mbps Download and Upload speed all the time without speed drops at all. This at least makes the device less annoying to use, but I would still much prefer to use the faster 5GHz network.
So far I've tried the following things to no effect:
-Restarting tablet and router
-Forget and readd the network in settings
-Reset all network and connectivity settings in android
-Played with Wifi Fixer app from Play Store
-802.11ac, 802.11a and 802.11n only modes in router instead of 802.11a/n/ac mixed
-Different Wi-Fi channels and channel widths in router
-Assigned a static IP
Planning on doing a factory reset on both the tablet and router later, but any help or ideas would be appreciated. Don't want to return this thing just yet.
Couple of years later, but I have the exact same issue. Did you ever find a solution?
