I sure hope so. I'm surprised a lot of people aren't jumping on this bandwagon. It runs stock Android out of the box. It's got a beyond premium build quality...and it's $225. I just got mine 3-4 days ago and I'm in love with it. I've had Nexus and OnePlus devices for the past 5 years or so and this is an exceptionally refreshing change of pace. Even though it only has a SD 430 I run Street Fighter IV HD with no issues. This device is phenomenal all around. My Nexus 6p and OnePlus are being left in their respective boxes in the closet for the foreseeable future since I've received this device.

yeap I currently have a galaxy j5 2016 but planning to buy this

Fastboot mode works fine, at least it's being recognised in fastboot mode, using command "fastboot devices" my Nokia 6 was recognised.
Not being a developer, and needing my phone, I wa a little hesitant to screw around with this until I know a tried and true method of unlocking..... Don't know what I'd do otherwise but would probably end up with a brick...

Is it fast? I'd love to order one to replace my nextbit robin. I don't use my phone for anything but browsing, email, calling and texting and file management.

It will be, I have the 8gb 128gb version, blitzingly fast for moving from one app tro another, especially when already opened previously.
Wouldn't expect too much difference on the 6gb 64gb variant either but the extra 2gb really makes a difference when used correctly...

[Q] Nexus 4 - now or wait

Hi guys,
thanks for lending me ur precious time towards my thread. I am out in the market to get a phone, lets say a smartphone..
And the only one that could impress me was the NEXUS 4 !!!
But the problem is , I live i India, and the phone hasnt released here...but yet a few websites. like ebay are selling 'em..
Is the device awesome? Compared to HTC One x+??
And is it capable of handling all future apps??
And last one, should i get a phone now or shud i wait...??
THANK YOU...Regards
bought the device 2 days ago .........
first impression :- design and feel = great
turned it on was dissapointed as the display was washed out as i came from amoled note screen ...... but fixed it with kernelsa and the brightness was too good in sunlight
started liking it alot
but suddenly started using 3G and phone got crazy hot in low signal and even normal signal
so hot that i couldnt take calls
the performance is the best but its a phone first so im returning mine
these problems can be fixed using kernels but i still wont be keeping it :/

I would wait until google io next wednesday to see if they announce an updated nexus 4, and then make your decision. Prices may go down on the original nexus 4 if they do.
Is the device awesome? I would say its the real google android experience, always first to get updates. So many roms/kernels to flash or you could just stay stock. Its really your decision, but more importantly I'd make sure you get good coverage with a nexus 4 in your area.

thanks a lot
I'm supposed to pick up mine on 15th. Can't keep an eye on the keynote due to time-zone difference.
I don't give a rat's a$$ about LTE support and 32gb storage so my question is: should I postpone the pickup date to 16th of May? Are there any features other than LTE & 32gb storage Google might have up it's sleeve?
A price drop seems kinda irrelevant too because it'll probably take weeks after the announcement for the prices to decrease in retail stores.
Appreciating any advice.
weeks? retail stores?

Ordered mine 2-days ago.. I doubt we will see anything from Google l/0 re: a new Nexus..
I'd assume we would have heard rumors by now as Google is not very good at keeping secrets..

Let's hope it's only a minor update :fingers-crossed:
Let's just say if 4.3 gets announced at I/O your phone the N4 will get it before any other non Nexus device. If the latest and greatest software is one of your needs the N4 will be a very good bet.
I'm interested in this too as I just received my N4. I haven't even opening the shipping box yet because I don't know if I should start using the phone or wait until I/O....if I open the phone box I get charged a restocking fee if I return it. I move to the UK in 2 weeks so I'm not even sure if LTE matters as it's quite expensive there. But, I am really more interested in a price drop in the 16GB.
Recommend waiting or just going for it?

I am by no means an expert nor do I have any inside knowledge but I doubt the 16GB will get a price drop even if they release an refreshed Nexus 4..
I just ordered one a few days ago and as soon as it arrives I am cracking that box open..
Plus, since you just bought it, I am sure if Google did announce a price drop you could call and get some sort of credit for the price difference..

He came from a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket so he does not even notice the lag..
After the nexus and using it for two days i love it for its pure experience and performance but it heats up a lot according to my liking so going to return it if i can
After other phones go
S4 - dont like touch wiz and late updates
But i certainly love samoled and the octa core laggy
Htc one - bad button placements allround from power to home buttons and lack of detail in camera
I dont know which way to go even if i return the n4
Unlock the boot loader, root it and install a custom kernel and say goodbye to extreme heat.

Define "soon" . you may be waiting until around November or so. I think the back glass itself is sleek as all hell. I'm just afraid of breaking it. So I put it in a case where I don't get to enjoy its beauty.

Here's what I said in a thread of someone asking if it's worth it. Basically: you should buy it.
Johmama said:
The main pros of the Nexus 4 that I keep listing anytime I tell people about it are the following:
1. Price. $350 is pretty much half the price of any other competitor to the Nexus 4
2. Pure Android, updated directly from Google. As soon as a new version of Android is released, it's on the Nexus. Google develops Android FOR this device.
3. Design. Glass front and back, it's a solid phone. Looks sleek.
Now, newly-released phones do have slightly better hardware. But we're getting to the point of diminishing returns. We're packing so much hardware into these devices, you'll hard-pressed to find software that actually makes use of it. I think the only debate you should be having is buy the Nexus 4 now, or wait until the next Nexus comes out, possible during the holidays. That isn't to say this phone won't still be a solid phone then, but I can understand if some people wait to buy updated versions.
To answer your question: yes. It is definitely worth it. At $350, it's fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy a Nexus 4. Right now I'm paying $30/mo for a tablet plan on AT&T with 3gb of data. Having weird and crazy options like that don't seem to happen with other phones. I feel like the Nexus 4 is YOUR phone, not 80% your phone, 20% the manufacturer's.
Spoiler alert: I might be a little biased, but c'mon. It's a sweet phone.

Thanks everyone for replies, especially @Johmama . How's the battery life and speaker sound? I wish I could buy it now, but I have tickets to pay so I have to wait a month
Not to mention the strong development support, if you're the adventurous type it's nearly impossible to hard-brick a Nexus.
Pure Android (AOSP) is rather nice by itself and I could live with that, but I like to go custom a bit .

Well battery isn't as long as say a Galaxy S3 with a 7000mAh extended battery on it. The N4 uses a 2100mAh battery and depending on your usage, it could last maybe 4 hours of constant screen usage at full brightness (screen takes most the battery), or it can last over 21 with the occasional checking of facbook, emails, etc once every couple of hours.
Here's a screenshot when I finally got it down to zero percent. (it stayed idle overnight as I slept, and then I used it here and there during the day.)

LoL, true we may be bias, but I'll at least tell you quirks I've noticed. Even so I'd still pick an N4 unless all the other brands want to ship full AOSP at the same price and include extras like maybe a micro-SD card slot or replaceable battery . I kind of wish you could use USB-OTG without a 5V adapter, but I don't use my phone the same way I use my Tablet.

Well I'm not buying a phone of any of you, so it's not like someone has to advertise it so I'd buy it. That's why I asked in N4 forum, because all of you have N4.
Basic stuff like Wifi and 3G data have hardware or driver problems. I sometimes wish I'd paid $100 more for a phone that has had more testing/QA. (Not sure there is a better phone for only $100 more, though.) I still prefer this phone to the SGS3, which has fundamentally bad OS design and poor compatibility with third party Android builds.

HTC One PAKISTAN Users thread

This thread is for all Pakistan based users. Please share your buying experience, accessories info, questions and queries regarding Network Provider based services and ofcourse your experiences with this awesome device!
To start off, I bought mine (Black, 32GB version) a couple of weeks ago, coming from the N4. Got it from a retailer I've gone to before in Zamzama, Karachi,. for Rs 72k. Quite a lot to spend on a smartphone, but I got a good price for my N4 and I really wanted this Homeshopping.pk apparently now has the silver version for under 70k on their site.
There's obviously no warranty but after speaking to Brightex Pakistan (official HTC distributors apparently) they plan on launching the One with warranty by June 22nd, or so they said. Mind you, the price for that will be quite a bit higher than the non warranty version but I suppose the peace of mind is worth it for a lot of people.
After having used the phone for a couple of weeks, and going through several charge cycles, my one and only issue with this phone - namely the battery life - has pretty much been laid to rest. Getting about 3 hrs on screen time and 20-24 hrs total time on a single charge with sync on which is great for me as it gets me through my full work day. Haven't found any glaring glitches yet (thankfully!) and the experience of using this device is completely brilliant!
Have NOT rooted and gone flash crazy yet as I want to enjoy the phone as is for a while. Am just waiting for the OTA 4.2.2 update to hit, hopefully soon The only 'accessory' I use right now is my own earphones with this set and they sound fantastic, much better than the included pair.
I've been looking for the MHL and OTG cables but haven't found them yet. If anyone has any info it would be appreciated.
Really curious to find out how many of us in PK have gotten this phone thus far so let us know y'all!

Well so far I have not used a cover or case with it since I couldn't find any good quality, minimal, ones. There are no scratches yet but the back does get some fingerprints which you can wipe off. Admittedly since its new I have been careful enough with it but I do carry it in my jeans pocket. So far so good. I think if you're used to having a case on your phone this one will not disappoint you.
That said, I've noticed the camera lens picks up smudges much more than my previous phones. I use a lens cloth to wipe it down after a couple of days or when I can remember.
My other reasoning for not having a case/cover so far is that it just looks so darned nice without them

I think the issue would be one of power. A low power device like a thumb (usb) flash drive gets its power from our phones via the OTG cable but an external HDD requires more power than the phone can provide. Its suggested in the following thread/link that you can use a powered USB hub to power up the Drive and then the OTG will work with the phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931990&page=2

Hey guys I has anyone received the 4.2.2 update yet?

Buy now or wait a couple of month?

Well, a couple of months have passes, and I have the possibility to buy a Nexus 7 (2013) 16GB for around $200. Still, seeing as there are people reporting no issues and others reporting a lot of them, I'm a bit scared to get a bad one. Now, the offer is only valid for a couple of days and I was wondering if I should buy it now or wait a while longer.
I'd like to know what people who already got the device would do if faced with this situation. Go for it o wait?

Buy it, you'll love it. If not you can always return the device. I have the 32gb for over a month now and never had any problems with it. It runs great out of the box

IMO all the problems are < 1% problems except
GPS - fixed
touchscreen issues - workaround for 70-80% of bad units
random reboots - still ongoing
You're missing out on a great device while you're waiting. There's nothing wrong with either my wifi or my lte N7. I bought the wifi n7 early enough to see what the GPS issue was, but that was completely fixed with a system update. I don't see the multi touch issue or the random reboots. I did have one reboot on one of my tablets, but that was immediately after I plugged in a micro USB reader, so it was pretty obviously the cause. I have a Samsung Note 8 also, and I can tell you both my N7s work far, far more reliably. neither of my N7s have the very annoying random freezes of my Note 8. Buy one, and if you find something wrong with it, return it. Simple enough.

This. If these reported problems are common then I'm one of the lucky ones. Not a single problem with mine and it works beautifully. Easily the best buy of any comparable tablet.
I'm curious to see what ROMs and development support the Kindle HDX will have. Hopefully more developers will take full advantage of its better hardware and if so, that would be something I would consider for the same price.

Should be noted that sfhub is totally to be credited for the 70-80% fixed units via his workaround. Google/ASUS is still floundering.
Kudos!
Should also note:
[*] Random screen freezes for 2-10 seconds.
You can always wait, but you will be missing out on a great tablet. :silly:
How can I answer Yes or No to an either /or question? :silly:
so should I return my one with touch/grounding issues for a new one or just wait for an update?!

Return, and keep returning until you get a 'good' one...

Well, excellent point...I don't know why I didn't notice it until now...
Ah well, if anyone has any doubts, let's put Yes for buying it now and No for waiting.
Anyways, thanks everyone for your input, it's very much appreciated
Most people seem to have good experiences with this device, even though there's the casual hiccup (few reboots and the like). I suppose I could always return the device and wait some more month if there's any mayor issue with it.

I voted yes before I saw you wanted a 16GB version. So, I change to no.
I first got a 16GB with many problems. Later got 32GB and with updates its working fine.
If you cannot return the 16GB it is a big risk (my opinion, obviously biased), but if return allowed you should be safe.

Interesting...Do other people have less or none issues with their 32GB device? Shouldn't it have the same issues, considering it's almost the same device?
Asus just used several different brands of LCD. The problem started with Google released a patch that fixed the few that had issues and now the majority have issues. Some were fixed and some were broken. Some are hardware related (with deadzones) but most are correctable. There are several patches available already from Sfhub in this forum. It takes a little trial and error to find a good one FOR YOU but it works.
Exchanging them until you find one that works doesn't mean it will work after you update a few Google updates. My 32gb was flawless out of the box until the 2nd update "touchscreen fix" that introduced the bug to most.
Fortunately it is found that it is correctable with a software fix and we're just waiting on Google to give us a good fix that encompasses all screen types.
If you want to pick one up, I'd suggest you should do so, especially if you are comfortable with flashing community fixes. I don't have any issues after the patch was flashed. Its also real easy to do.
So the N7 doesn't really have any big flaws hardware wise, which seems like it is just a buggy touchscreen driver or a combination of one driver not working the best across multiple screens. Google will fix it. I'm sure of it.

Buy it now!
There seems to be a lot of focus on the touch screen issue for good reason. There is little focus on the RANDOM RESTART/REBOOT ISSUE.
I personally have had no touchscreen issues in my 2 units. I returned the first unit for multiple random restarts/reboots.
My second unit went through 3 on Wednesday in quick succession for some unknown reason but has been stable since then and previously stable for 150 hours (6 ish days). If you are curious, here is the google product forum with posts about random restarts/reboots. To date it is unacknowledged by Google and is extremely frustrating for me not knowing if the device will randomly choose to reboot.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/nexus/nexus-7/mG4JXaT-SHs%5B926-950-false%5D
The device is now 20 days old and I have 10 left in my "exchange" window with my supplier. Theytypically want to replicate issues prior to exchanging which is an interesting dilemma for a random event. My first device rebooted a lot during youtube videos and I was able to replicate that for them. This current unit has recently shut down prior to google app updates. This is not a reboot exactly as it sounds the shutdown tone and then requires a manual restart to find a google app (gmail once, maps once and dont remember the third) awaiting to be d/l'd or installed.
Don't forget the uncertainty of random reboots!!! Annoying, frustrating, not as functionally impacting as a touch screen that doesn't work but still a significant defect.
H/W; S/W; H/W Marginality (timing most likely or ram issues)??? who knows

Google Nexus 6P and Marlin Feedback

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on their Google Nexus 6P? What they think of the device in general, any issues, etc. I currently have a LGG3 phone on the sprint network. Have had this phone a couple years and I'm looking to upgrade to the Google Nexus 6P or the next generation Marlin. I have always rooted my devices and installed custom roms. Are these devices easy to root and install roms and is the development support good for these devices? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Hi, there's some interesting information in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/upgrade-to-2016-nexus-marlin-t3417724
Don't get the 6p. Wait for Marlin. The phone and headphone jack on this phone are pathetic. People constantly tell me that I signs like I am under water. I can't wait until the new phones are released.

Maybe you should RMA your 6p; I've never had any of those issues.

I have had an LG G3 for a short while and a few things that i miss from it are the
~ Replaceable battery
~ The almost instant with the camera for macro shots
~ The ability to arrange the Navigation buttons
The above three apart, Nexus 6P is a much better phone, however do not buy the phone yet. Wait until Marlin/Pixel comes out and Nexus 6P's price would plummet further

There's a mod in another thread that just enables the navbar button rearrangement that actually exists in System UI tuner but remains hidden. You can do whatever you want with it, including removal, extra or less spacing, etc.

Yup. Why six months? You can unroot and return completely to stock if you ever need to return the phone or have warranty issues ...

Thanks. I like the lg g3 but been having signal issues where all of a sudden get no signal and then have to reboot to get signal back, possible radio issue. I have a extended battery in it that i love. I am itching to get a new phone but am disgusted with the carrier's/manufacturers lack of initative in updating the OS. I figured a Google phone would remedy that issue. So, if you were me, would you wait and get the Marlin/pixel or get the 6p when the price drops. I would like to get a state of the art phone one that can run vr just in case i become interested in it but from what i read in this thread, the Marlin may not be better than the 6p? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I would get the 6P then. Go for the 64 Gig version if possible
When the 6p price drops, where will it be? Google, Swappa, Amazon........?
I'll be looking at picking one up to replace my N6.
Picked up a mint 128 gig on Swappa for 450.

If you want a brand new phone I would check the Google store or possibly Amazon. Swappa would be a good place to look for a good used one. They occasionally have new phones, but most of what they sell is used.
I'm hoping for at least $150-200 off from the Google store, but that's probably dreaming...

Both have been reported by others as well. I am switching to PixelXL as soon as possible because of these problems. Honestly I think people give the 6p a pass. Who knows why. I am hoping the next release (Nexus/Pixel) will be full flagship quality and not 85% flagship quality.
To each their own.
