You have to reboot on recovery mode : turn off your tab and then boot using power volum up and home key all the boot. Then you will be on the recovery go using the volume key to factory reset section. To enable use power key.

Any trick ?

Turn the phone off completely.
Hold both volume up & volume down buttons and briefly press power on. Keep holding volume buttons till the screen comes on, then follow on-screen instructions.

That's how you reset to the factory defaults.
What you want to do is to completely turn off your device and then hold the vol-down button while tapping once on the power button.

It's for flashing your rom.
My Bell i9000 SGS has been locking up several times a day since I got it. Today I was installing Weather Bug and Weather Channel apps and it locked--now it won't boot at all.
I guess the phone is probably faulty and will need to be exchanged. Nonetheless, I'd feel better if I could factory reset the phone before returning it. I'm always happier when my private info isn't on the phone before returning it...
I tried all the key combos I could find on boot up, none of them do anything. If I keep holding any of them, it just powers the phone off and on repeatedly.

I can't boot up into Android at all.
try recovery mode
hold volume up key + big square home button key + power button key
when you see the screen light up with the B/W Samsung logo, let go of the power button key
then inside the recovery mode, you have the option to Wipe your data

The phone just keeps booting as per normal. It gets as far as the Galaxy S logo... then nothing.

hmmmm..... then you got one of those model where bell disabled the option to go into Recovery Mode / Download Mode
the only thing you can do now is to go back to Bell and have them exchange it or flash it for you.
similar problem, cant get into recovery mode, but if I remove the battery, then hold volume up + home + power then put the battery in, it will get to a screen with the little android dude and it says forced upload mode due to key press. how very odd.
Hello!
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S last wekeend. I was about to root it today, but I couldn't enter recovery via the 3-key combo. So, I've read that a lot of users are missing this feature. And that it is very vital if I fail a software update.
Should I return my phone? I don't want to wait for a 4 week reflash. Also, do you think they'll accept the phone because of that reason?
Thanks.
I thought I can't enter recovery mode on my phone too, until I followed these instructions EXACTLY:
HOWTO GET INTO RECOVERY:
- Turn off your Phone
- Hold VOLUME UP + HOME Button
- While holding VOLUME UP + HOME Button press POWER Button until Display lights up, then release only POWER Button
- Still hold VOLUME UP + HOME until you got into Recovery
- Release all Buttons
------------------------------------------------------------------
HOWTO GET INTO DOWNLOAD-MODE:
- Turn off your Phone
- Hold VOLUME DOWN + HOME Button
- While holding VOLUME DOWN + HOME Button press POWER Button until you reach Download-Mode
- Release all Buttons

did you read the heating trick?
just don't put it in the oven as mentioned on some posts
see if that makes the 3 button works

I've tried them exactly as they where written several times, the only way I can get into recovery is via adb

What heating trick?
Hmm, then maybe you got one of those "recovery-protected" phones that can't get into recovery mode by pressing buttons...

It sounds just like it Should I return it? I don't want to wait 4 weeks if it bricks during a flash...
I can't tell you that.
If you have the bill and the phone is like brand new, then try to exchange it for another, maybe they'll accept yours back...
I am using Ganbarou_ROM_0.3b. But I dont know how to set host mode, so I cannot find usb disk.
How to set in this system?
some firmwares can switch to hostmode by turning the tab off, then powering it on and when the screen gets power (lights up) you hold down the backbutton until it has finished booting.

And to get back to Slave mode, just reboot without pressing back button.
First question: Not sure if it's the phone or the software but when I shutdown my phone and try to turn it back on by holding the volume button and the power button, it doesn't work. But as soon as release the power button, it decides to turn on. Can someone help me with this?
Second question: Does my phone need to be rooted to get Android 4.1.1?
NOTE* Currently on Android 2.3
1) Keep trying, you shouldn't have to release a button to turn it on. Are you holding the right buttons? Its down+power
2)Yes

First Volume down, then the power button, it should be on within 3 seconds.
Do you have ADB enabled? Plug your phone into your computer, if your computer recognizes it via ADB, come back

I would try pushing recovery img through adb. See if that solves the problem.
