Why is my OP5 closing MapMyWalk? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

So, I walk with MapMyWalk and it randomly closes the app when I'm in the middle of my walk if I don't keep an eye on it. All I have running along side it is Pandora.
I've tried everything.
I turned off battery optimization for the app. I turned off doze completely. Tried factory reset/new roms/etc. It's really annoying.
I've had many other phones, including ones running Android N (Nexus 6p and Moto g5 plus) and none have displayed this behavior.
Any ideas? I see alot of people talking about this regarding Android N and the op3t but no solutions.
I'm considering switching devices even though I love this phone. I'm 30 pounds into losing 70 and it's a real downer for me this app only malfunctions with this phone.

I've been having this issue with gmail.. It seems it's constantly closed by the system. I can have 40 apps open, but consistently gmail will have to redraw.
Congratulations with your weight loss goals man! ???? This is no small accomplishment!
If you're going to be outside a lot and are looking for a phone, what are you considering? G6/S8/XZ Premium? The water resistance would be nice!

I had an S8+ briefly before the OP5 and even with 2 gb less of ram it handled apps much better. I may just get a regular S8. I'm waiting to see what Motorola announces the 25th. I may consider the Moto Z2 Force if it's the 835 processor and available through TMobile.

I don't really feel it's an overall issue of memory management, for me just gmail.. Because the other 30 apps or so "above" and "below" it resume instantly.
I think the Z2 would be a better bet.. That could be personal preference, but I had a z play and that thing was fantastic on battery (in part to sd 625), my friend has the z force from verizon and a year from launch he's still getting great battery life.
the great thing about moto is its so close to stock! And moto voice is everything gooogle assistant should have stock.. Being able to say whatever you want whenever you want to activate Google assistant should be a no brainer.. Plus you get moto mods! :victory:

From my research I think it's a Nougat issue that some manufacturers handle better than others...
I'm a big Motorola fan but I wasn't a fan of the original Moto Z on its own. I used to have the Moto X every year it came out. There are rumors the Z2 Force will have 835/6GB of ram. If that's the case it will definitely be very tempting.

OnePlus X specs leaked

http://indianexpress.com/article/te...-spark-rumours-of-another-oneplus-smartphone/
A report on GizmoChina, which quotes “factory sources,” spills more details on the OnePlus X.
The report says that the OnePlus X has a more premium look than the OnePlus 2, a fingerprint sensor at the back, 5-inch screen and the same Snapdragon 801 processor and the pricing could be around $249. The report goes on to add that the OnePlus X might be launched this month itself.
Damn that sounds awesome

That's a lame idea. Its like oneplus one 2nd gen. One plus 2 is affordabl and better
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
oneplus 1/2 are too damn big, i want to go back to a 5/5.2 inch phone
IMHO it would be awesome to have an OPO "mini", very good news then
Sounds like a really bad idea. A sucessor to the OPO with a smaller screen. Lame. Oneplus logic. Replace the OPO with a phone that is not as good, again.
There is a market for smaller phones that are not high spec. Why would anyone criticize oneplus for trying to appeal to even more people.
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
The Oneplus Mini seems like a more appropriate title. They could even tie it in with marshmallow, its acronym ending with an M and all.
I can see it now. OPM.
Compared to the current OnePlus One for $300 in the USA,
the Oneplus X gives you only a $50 discount, but you get less storage, less battery, and less screen. Seems like One is still a better value. Did I get it right?

Not if someone wants a smaller phone.
This one will be actually good to buy for my parents.
If the specs are mostly identical, would it be possible to port O2Os for opo?
any word on Verizon compatibility?

I'm guessing at some point Oneplus will release an Oxygen OS 2.1 version for the OPO, but with this phone going on sale not anytime soon as it could affect sales of the Oneplus X
It's basically a OPO with an microSD slot and a more compact size. I can see the appeal. Not everyone wants a phablet

No, and I don't think anyone realistically expects it. Verizon is CDMA and globally represents too thin a slice of the market for OnePlus to dedicate the resources needed.
It would be perfect with NFC.
I like it but No fast charging? Then again how long does a 2550 mah battery take to charge? There's other stuff they left out too. Very nice build quality though.

They managed to get the OPO's 3,100mAh battery to change in just 2 hours which is pretty impressive.

Is the OP2 worth getting?

i have a iphone. i switched to the dark side. but im not really happy the price i have to pay for outdated features. i was wondering if the oneplus 2 overheats over normal use and is it worth getting?
There is a thread like that in general section. Check it out.

- it tooks 4months for samsung to get MM to his flagship
- battery life is lame
- worst ram menagment phone ever ,, cant handle more than 3/4 tasks
- for my opinion selfie cam is so fake with that "beauty" filter
- reception in LTE / 4g was so bad (max 3h sot with mobile data)
- they didnt post kernel source so it lacks in developing
- BLOATWARE all around ... more than 300 apps+ services
- a lot useless stuff, flip to mute , proximity to ear call , IM NORMAL PERSON I CAN DO IT BY MYSLEF, im not handicapped
- 2560 x 1440 was so bad move for a 5.1 inch display . in 1080p more battery life , less pixel to show , more cpu power , more gpu power etc
thigs ive liked :
_ the build was so good
- it was amazing fast phone (even with touchwiz , imagine what can he do in cm13 , but they never gona have stable cm13)
- fast charging , 1h22min 100%

OnePlus 2 is perfect from my point of you. But not the software. The hardware of the device is beast. Software by OnePlus is no match to if. If you want to buy OnePlus Two you should tweak to get most out the phone. So it's in your hands. Perfect hardware, OK stock software. Of course the Device heats up a bit. If tweaked its the best phone in its range. If you don't want to tweak, you can use stock but wait till marshmallow.

Oneplus 2 and nexus 6p are both good phones for their price range. If you have a bigger budget, i would get a 6p because its better in terms of software updates (they have marshmallow already). For me i haven't experienced many bugs with oneplus 2, others in the forum have had minor bugs. Battery life is not bad, i get around 6-7 hr screen on time with YouTube only with a bit of internet.

I really like the 6P and OP2, but both seem to have some issues. Some bigger than others. And I know no phone is perfect. I can spend up to what a 64gb 6P would cost me, but saving money is never a bad thing. My 6s Plus has no issues, but the OS is so stale and I'm going nuts without the simplest of customization.

[Moto X Force] Thoughts? Should I buy this phone this late?

I currently own a Galaxy s6 Edge and I hate that I have to charge this thing twice a day. After learning that I can buy this phone in Mexico (2 mile drive for me) and make it compatible for ATT, I am definitely considering it. The problem is that it has been out in the market for about 5 months, and that means there may be something newer and better out there.
Any of you guys coming from the Samsung infrastructure to Moto? What are your thoughts? Should I just get an S7?
I feel I'll really miss the IR blaster, with little concern about the fingerprint sensor. I don't care about how the phone looks, mainly performance and utility. Any input is welcome, thanks!
The battery in this isn't really any better than the galaxy s6...
The SD810 is simply a power hog. I always get more SOT on my note 5, which has a significantly smaller battery.
Now that the Turbo 2 has marshmallow, maybe it will get better... Who knows.
I like the phone, but the battery is disappointing to me.
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Do you find that the battery last you one whole day at least? Does it last you from the time you wake until the time you sleep?
For me it all depends on the screen on time. As long as I keep it 4 hours or less it lasts the whole day.
Marshmallow makes the idle battery drain better too, so that directionally helps.
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
While reading up on this, I've read the Galaxy series, especially S7 are/will be very "locked down". Do you know what that means?
I come from a Galaxy s6, and the only thing that i miss from it is the IR blaster, and honestly the fingerprint sensor was a concern for me, but meh. I would take the Forcé anyday. It lasts me a full day on heavy use. Like 5-6 SOT some dudes seem to have better life battery, but i use the FB app so maybe thats the issue. Software is waaaaay better, and doesn't seem to get sluggish over weeks like my s6, i miss the theme store of the S6, but if you root on marshmallow you can install layers, and voilá. I'm from México too.

Samsung and most vendors, hardly customized their roms. Which means a lot of bloadware, not well optimized, etc. Samsung launching a lot of devices every year and it's really hard to support all of them with updates. So, they just do not update or update is delayed a lot. Most xda users then flash CM or similar but loose some of stock features.
Previously Moto had customized rom called blur. After Google acquired Moto, rom became almost vanilla but they removed sd-card. Now Moto is part of Lenovo and rom is still very close to vanilla Android and sd-card is back! That's why I'm back to Moto after they lost me with removing sd-card.
If you can, buy Moto X Force instead of Turbo 2. The same phone without Verizon bloatware, bootloader unlockable, MM arrived last year, supports more LTE bands and works so well that I'm still using stock. This is the fist time since I have Android. Usually I unlock and root max week after purchase, even for Nexus.

I already have Force
Honestly I didn't check S7 and I'm not interested at all. It will have faster SoC (two different type, depending of region -> mess with custom roms and even official updates), 1GB more RAM, smaller battery, breakable screen and most important Samsung bloadware...
If I'm buying phone now, most probably I will not buy S7 but I will check all new flagships (LG?) and see which one suits me the best.

i would go for S7 because its a 2016 device, it has the newer top tier snapdragon 820 and better camera than x force, and new battery of 3000 mah, it will get support 1 year and a half.
the downside of it its samsung bloatware, past the year and half you wont get support. and the battery its not as big as the x force, also smaller screen size.

I looked into the snapdragon 820 vs 810 and I read it is about 40% faster and more power efficient. Also I'm seeing that the 810 has overheating problems at high usage. I'm not sure if this is enough reason to not buy the Force. Do any of you all suffer from overheating?
I really did want this device, but now I'm debating on just waiting for the next gen.... Which will be nothing under 6-7 months. Even then, there's no guarantee there will be an international version that'll support AT&T.
Any advice?
S7 most probably will be more expensive and so damn fragile. Especially edge. Just to remind you, S7 has 820 or Exynos 8890, depends of region and for LTE three or more variant.
I had overheating problem with Turbo 2. For example recording 4k, using VR or playing games. No such problems with Force (recorded a lot of 4k videos), even before MM update. After is even cooler.
You're in classical never ending waiting phase for newer, better device. Just buy what currently suits you the best and do not wait forever.

Should be the same device but somehow Turbo 2 heated more. You can find my comments about that somewhere here. I almost gave up of buying Force. For me shatterproof display was initial sales point, then of course, powerful SoC, 3GB, sd card (very important for me), clean Android, design, high res amoled...
For VR I have View-Master. It's cool for playing with, everyone who tried was impressed. Honestly I'm not using it much. I'm staring in displays enough anyway to have another one on my head later Samsung has it's own solution for VR but I've never tried. HTC has it as well. Obviously humanity is heading to something like Matrix or Surrogates.

Best battery life? Not even close... That is simply a false statement. My Turbo 2 does OK, but my note 5 and my S6 Active both get longer battery life.
Heck my Turbo 1 got longer battery life than my Turbo 2.
Again, I find the Turbo 2 battery life acceptable... But let's keep it real - it definitely isn't the longest, or even close to longest.

What made you choose the moto z force?

i am just curious what made you choose the moto z force. i am deciding between this and the lg v20. coming from the note 7.

The battery mostly, plus, to a lesser extent, the mods and reading how fast and smooth it was.
Battery life, Shatter Shield, and Moto's seeming desire to remain as stock android as possible.
The Mods, especially the external battery mod, also played a big part. Being able to add on extra juice... I tend to be a heavy user of my phone and always kinda worry that I'm going to run out of juice.
I got it because I have had motorola in the past and like them. I had the Note 7 which I loved, but couldn't keep due to the fire issue. This phone had good reviews, fast, large battery. It is a very smooth phone. The negative is that I don't think that there are too many out there so development support may be less than with other phones. It is a good phone.
Most because the LG G5. I had 3 generations of Gs but considered the 5 a wrong step and looked for something else.
The Moto Zs are as unique as the Gs were.

I agree it is not the Note 7, but the Z Force is a very good phone. Maybe the next best. You might like the S7 Edge, but I am not a fan of the curved screen and the Edge has a more pronounced curve. Maybe the Pixel XL? I haven't seen one of those. I do really like the Z Force. I wish it had an LED indicator, but I am getting used to the notifications on it and they are fine once you get used to them. I certainly recommend this phone as very good.
I had an original Moto X and loved the ecosystem. The battery was a plus, and definitely why I chose the Force over the non-force Z. The mods are cool, but really had nothing to do with the decision.
I did not have a Note, but had the galaxy phones 2-5, I can say it is hard at first to get used to coming from touch wiz, but a million times better when you get used to it. My coworkers who are note owners...or past note owners envy my phone and talk about how much better and more responsive it is.
I guess to better answer this question it would be helpful to understand your typical usage but my overall experience with it is amazing.
The camera is amazing for a non dslr including low light photo and video. I took a video recording at a concert and was blown away by the audio and video quality.
I played minecraft on max settings hosting a multiplayer world and using a bluetooth controller and performance felt on par with the PS4.
I have used it for running a bluetooth scantool for automotive diagnostics and was impressed by the speed at which it could perform a full scan. Rivaled only my high level ($1,000+) scan tools.
I use it for remote desktop use at work while in the field with a bluetooth keyboard for true desktop computing with no issues.
Project cars has apps which run with the video game and the response is great with no noticable latency.
Controlling Chromecast works extremely well as well as screencasting to include emulators.
Runs fPSe, a playstation emulator with not problem at all.
As you can see I use it for a wide range of things, I could go on but dont want to bore you with irrelevant information based on your needs and expectations of a device.
I too am trying to decide between the LG V20 and the Moto Z Force. Anyone regret the Force? think maybe you should have got the regular Z or the Z Play instead?

No way for me to compare to a V20, but I've had a Z Force since the first week and have been very happy with it. I had a LG G4 before and there's no comparison in terms of build quality. My G4 failed twice under warranty and always felt cheap. The Z Force feels like a slab of steel in your hand, it's awesome.
I had gotten used to the LG style Android., but the Moto's nearly stock approach is really nice. The only thing I really miss is that you can't switch the "back" and "menu" buttons, which I did because I prefer the back button on the right for easier one-handed operation. Can't do that on the force (without root, which isn't possible yet/ever on my Verizon phone) but I got used to it soon enough.
I do not regret the Force and feel I should have gotten the others, and I am on verizon prepaid the only place that would let me pre order was best buy for $800 said the jbl mod was free but just added the price to the phone. I am glad I got that though, I was going to get the incipio mod and dont feel I have the need for it now.

Most because the LG G5. I had 3 generations of Gs but considered the 5 a wrong step and looked for something else.
The Moto Zs are as unique as the Gs were.

you and i are on the same boat. I left motorola for the lgg2, then g3, upgrade was coming up and g5 disapointed me then i saw the moto z force and started to love it
I like the Moto take on Android. Shattershield has value to me (I didn't feel the need for insurance). Good battery life. Only have the speaker mod but it's good. Camera may be a tick behind the very best, but quite good. The phone is very fast and fluid.
I'm a Moto fan, using the Z force it's one of the best Moto handsets I ever used, design wise, performance and the Moto mods, really it's unique.

I have had Motorola since bag phone days, and law enforcement radios prior to that. They know radios, hence phones. Tired of rooting and looking for something for a couple of years. Really like the Z Force.

What's Next After The 6P?

So to those of you who are still using this phone, what's your next jump? S8 S8+... Pixel 2, other?
I've really enjoyed this phone, but it's time to start thinking about the next upgrade. Oddly, I didn't actually unlock & root this phone. I think this is the first time I haven't done that with a phone. So that's not huge to me.
I personally think the Pixel 2 may be the next jump as I do enjoy the non bloatedness of these phones. I hope though that Google (as much as they charge) competes really well. With the S8 & iPhone 8 coming they have to.
Have any of you thought about your next phone from this one? Are you sticking with this one as long as you can & feel you'll be able to get a replacement that compares? I know for me, the whole buying this from Google & the price was a big factor. Unfortunately the price thin isn't going to happen again. The $475 I paid for this I fear is long gone unless I venture outside of the norm. OnePlus, LeeEco, Huawei, etc. Having Verizon though pretty much limits any of those options however.
it's too early to talking about next phone but between phone in store right now I interested to "moto z force", sadly just exclusive to the US market via Verizon and I'm not living in US! ?
Still very happy with the 6P. I'll probably keep using it as my main phone at least until the end of the year. Will mostly consider OnePlus and Pixel 2 when I'm ready to replace the 6P.

I think more and more the top of the line phones are just not necessary anymore. Once my 6p dies (which may be a while as I got a brand new replacement from them for the bootloop issue) I'll consider the Pixel 2 (or 3), but most likely I'll lean towards oneplus, or ZTE, or Honor, all of which have had great phones this year, for much less than the pixel.
Any phone that gives me a SD and fast updates.
It's time for Google to stop the no SD card crap.
I don't know if that's going to happen with the no SD thing. This is where I could see getting the S8 vs the Pixel 2 just to lower the price. 32GB phone then buy the card. Hell with all of the goodies Best Buy throws in I'd almost bet on some sort of freebie or two. Whether a wireless charger, SD card or VR headset. I can see something.
I bet the oneplus 4 or 5 or whatever they call it will be pretty good. I just wish more phones could be taken to Verizon. Leaves me with only a few options.

I'm holding out for the Pixel 2 myself, I have Project Fi so its practically the only choice I have for upgrading. I just hope it has some premium features like legit water resistance and a better looking design. I also hope they have enough in stock that I can order one because doubt my Nexus 6P will last that long around then.
Nothing thus far. The 6P already does everything I need to in addition to the large 3450 mAh battery, great screen, and awesome speakers.
Don't think shelling out a few hundred dollars is worth it for under the hood specs that I would barely notice like opening an app milliseconds faster. It's not like my 6P is unable to do what the newer gen phones can do.

That "large" battery is one of the worst in recent smartphone history.
I'll be jumping ship to the s8+ and maybe come back to Google when they don't try and sell a budget phone for a stupid price like with the Pixel.
The only thing I'll miss from the 6p is the speakers.

The 6P battery has been excellent to me, I can't speak for anyone else. It compares to my Droid Turbo that had a 3900 mAh battery. It could be "worse in history" to you, but it has been nothing short of stellar to me. It has absolutely exceeded my expectations given that I've read mixed reviews regarding the SD810.

I have an iPhone 7 plus as well as my nexus 6p, and it is actually ridiculous how much longer the 7 plus lasts. I feel like I can drain my 6p just by looking at it. The real problem with android is idle drain, it is freaking ridiculous.

I'm not the only one suffering garbage battery life and shut downs while out of warranty. I used to get amazing battery life too but not anymore.

That's a shame. Products aren't always perfect for everyone. There's always those with bad experiences such as with cars, electronics, etc. I'm talking based on MY experience, not from what I've read, heard, seen, etc. I KNOW based on my experience that I can rely on my phone being at 50% by bed-time, so there's no reason for me to complain about that.
Maybe your next phone will fare better for you.

Next on my buy list to replace the Nexus 6P will be the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, which should come out in the late fall of this year.
Galaxy 8+ will be my next badboy! But will keep my cool Nexus6p...

That's funny you say budget phone. Google stated in their mention of the next Pixel that everything is premium & there will be no budget one. I guess to them the current phone is premium.

Ever since I took the nougat update my battery life has sucked. I love the phone, but had to go back to the 7 edge. I'd love to give the Apple 7+ a try. Haven't been on an Apple device in years. The Samsung 8 plus it's very tempting.

Sounds like you're platform agnostic like me Best way to be. Too much good tech out there to get caught in fanboyism
We've thought about waiting for the iPhone 8. The wife & I have yet to own an iPhone. Her only thought was she already has so many Android apps. I'm kind of the same where I don't want to dump a bunch of $ on a new platform. Get the S8 or Pixel 2 & I've already got the apps I use & have paid for.

Ya, I try to keep an open mind. I wish my pocket book could handle it though lol. Honestly I loved my LG g4, just hated the battery life. I'm kind of finding the 5.5" screen size around my liking. The only thing I hate about the s7 edge is how curved the sides are. It sounds like the s8's will have less of a curved screen. The pixel XL always send to be out of stock in the 128gb version.
