So to those of you who are still using this phone, what's your next jump? S8 S8+... Pixel 2, other?
I've really enjoyed this phone, but it's time to start thinking about the next upgrade. Oddly, I didn't actually unlock & root this phone. I think this is the first time I haven't done that with a phone. So that's not huge to me.
I personally think the Pixel 2 may be the next jump as I do enjoy the non bloatedness of these phones. I hope though that Google (as much as they charge) competes really well. With the S8 & iPhone 8 coming they have to.
Have any of you thought about your next phone from this one? Are you sticking with this one as long as you can & feel you'll be able to get a replacement that compares? I know for me, the whole buying this from Google & the price was a big factor. Unfortunately the price thin isn't going to happen again. The $475 I paid for this I fear is long gone unless I venture outside of the norm. OnePlus, LeeEco, Huawei, etc. Having Verizon though pretty much limits any of those options however.
it's too early to talking about next phone but between phone in store right now I interested to "moto z force", sadly just exclusive to the US market via Verizon and I'm not living in US! ?
Still very happy with the 6P. I'll probably keep using it as my main phone at least until the end of the year. Will mostly consider OnePlus and Pixel 2 when I'm ready to replace the 6P.

I think more and more the top of the line phones are just not necessary anymore. Once my 6p dies (which may be a while as I got a brand new replacement from them for the bootloop issue) I'll consider the Pixel 2 (or 3), but most likely I'll lean towards oneplus, or ZTE, or Honor, all of which have had great phones this year, for much less than the pixel.
Any phone that gives me a SD and fast updates.
It's time for Google to stop the no SD card crap.
I don't know if that's going to happen with the no SD thing. This is where I could see getting the S8 vs the Pixel 2 just to lower the price. 32GB phone then buy the card. Hell with all of the goodies Best Buy throws in I'd almost bet on some sort of freebie or two. Whether a wireless charger, SD card or VR headset. I can see something.
I bet the oneplus 4 or 5 or whatever they call it will be pretty good. I just wish more phones could be taken to Verizon. Leaves me with only a few options.

I'm holding out for the Pixel 2 myself, I have Project Fi so its practically the only choice I have for upgrading. I just hope it has some premium features like legit water resistance and a better looking design. I also hope they have enough in stock that I can order one because doubt my Nexus 6P will last that long around then.
Nothing thus far. The 6P already does everything I need to in addition to the large 3450 mAh battery, great screen, and awesome speakers.
Don't think shelling out a few hundred dollars is worth it for under the hood specs that I would barely notice like opening an app milliseconds faster. It's not like my 6P is unable to do what the newer gen phones can do.

That "large" battery is one of the worst in recent smartphone history.
I'll be jumping ship to the s8+ and maybe come back to Google when they don't try and sell a budget phone for a stupid price like with the Pixel.
The only thing I'll miss from the 6p is the speakers.

The 6P battery has been excellent to me, I can't speak for anyone else. It compares to my Droid Turbo that had a 3900 mAh battery. It could be "worse in history" to you, but it has been nothing short of stellar to me. It has absolutely exceeded my expectations given that I've read mixed reviews regarding the SD810.

I have an iPhone 7 plus as well as my nexus 6p, and it is actually ridiculous how much longer the 7 plus lasts. I feel like I can drain my 6p just by looking at it. The real problem with android is idle drain, it is freaking ridiculous.

That's a shame. Products aren't always perfect for everyone. There's always those with bad experiences such as with cars, electronics, etc. I'm talking based on MY experience, not from what I've read, heard, seen, etc. I KNOW based on my experience that I can rely on my phone being at 50% by bed-time, so there's no reason for me to complain about that.
Maybe your next phone will fare better for you.

That's funny you say budget phone. Google stated in their mention of the next Pixel that everything is premium & there will be no budget one. I guess to them the current phone is premium.

Sounds like you're platform agnostic like me Best way to be. Too much good tech out there to get caught in fanboyism
We've thought about waiting for the iPhone 8. The wife & I have yet to own an iPhone. Her only thought was she already has so many Android apps. I'm kind of the same where I don't want to dump a bunch of $ on a new platform. Get the S8 or Pixel 2 & I've already got the apps I use & have paid for.

Ya, I try to keep an open mind. I wish my pocket book could handle it though lol. Honestly I loved my LG g4, just hated the battery life. I'm kind of finding the 5.5" screen size around my liking. The only thing I hate about the s7 edge is how curved the sides are. It sounds like the s8's will have less of a curved screen. The pixel XL always send to be out of stock in the 128gb version.

Is it worth to wait or buy the nexus 6p?
When comes the news about the new nexus phone?
It really depends on why you want to upgrade. For me I was coming from an s4 and the hardware and support was becoming out dated. I think the investment in the 6p is worth it compared to other phones with similar specs with a higher price tag.
I've just pick an 6p up come from a oneplus 2 and I'm not that overly impressed to be honest! Fonts way to small and I can't use my tomtom go I bought from the app store

Usually Nexus phones come out Oct/Nov so you still have quite a bit to go. I would say buy it, it's a great phone and one of the best, if not the best, android phones out right now.
FYI: Nexus phones are typically announced in October and released sometime in late November. Buying the 6P now will still give you a solid 9 months of use before you could even get your hands on the 2016 Nexus phones anyway.
I have a 5X and I'm actually considering a 6P at the moment as well. Over the past 3 months of use I've found that I am always underwhelmed by the speaker output. I have 1-3 conference calls per day and constantly find that the speaker audio quality just plain sucks. The speaker output on my iPhone 6s (work paid for it) puts the 5X's speaker to shame. Not to mention the vastly superior build quality of the iPhone over the 5X. Unfortunately, I can't stand IOS so I always end up going back to the 5X. From everything I've read/seen the 6P speakers should be as good or better than the iPhone and the build quality is equally as good as that of the iPhone.
The biggest thing I keep struggling with is the size. I hated the Nexus 6 because it was just too big and I never got used to it. I've read posts and watched video reviews that seem to show the new design of the 6P really makes it feel much smaller than the previous Nexus 6. I wish a local BetBuy had one for me to go play with but they don't have any display models.

The size honestly isn't as bad as the Nexus 6. It is a slimmer phone, for sure not as wide, and does not feel like a whale in your hand and pockets. You should try holding a Galaxy Note 5 or Iphone 6S Plus in store, I would describe the 6P feel in and like a mix between the two. The 6S Plus feels a bit bulky too me, and the Note 5 feels smaller because of its bezel. The 6P is by no means a small phone, but it feels nice in hand.
Yeah, the iPhone 6S was too bulky to me. I haven't tried the Note 5 though. I have to make a trip to Best Buy tomorrow so I'll spend some time with their display Note 5 to see how it feels. Thanks for the tip.

I agree coming from a smaller s4. While the 6p is a big phone. It has a great balance and feel in the hand. I don't even think about the size of the phone.
If stock Android isn't a must for you, then I absolutely wouldn't touch a 6P right now. Much better phones were just announced over the weekend.
I know I will get a ton of hate for that answer, but it's the truth.
On the flip side, if stock Android is important to you, then yes, take the leap.

As a user view, are there cons about after a month or 3/4 with this phone? Lagy or stutter?

If your really that ambitious to think you would like one, without ever picking up the actual phone, I ordered mine from best buy and picked up in 3 days. They assured me 14 days with the phone to try it out, and a return policy with no questions asked. I can tell you I was skeptical of never buying a phone without actually physically touching it. And now after having the phone for almost a month I can say this will be a phone I can value for the next 3 years.

The 2013 Nexus 5 and 7 are still being updated with the monthly security updates currently, so I would expect the 6P to be supported by Google for at least another couple of years.

Interesting. I considered going the BestBuy route since they told me they could have it for me by Friday. But i'd like to get Nexus protect too. Is it possible to get Nexus protect even if you don't order it directly from Google?
I already have a buyer lined up for my Nexus 5X so I'm about to pull the trigger either way.

With all those new phone's came out lately.
I'm confused, S7 looks like a beast, and he is far more beautiful than the 6P.
Although he is also much more expensive and not to mention the crappy touchwiz.
Same thing with Note 5.
The one that caught me is the HTC 10.
But also much more expensive.
Anoter area that I'm curious about is the brightness level, how's the 6P handle?
Thanks!

Really bad battery life? My G4 SOT is around 2-2.5h depends on usage (gaming or not)
But this isn't bothering me because i have another battery with me.
But this isn't the case with the 6P that's why it's important for me.
Ya i thought the brightness isn't special from all what i heard, but i guess it is better that the G4, right?

If you're not concerned of losing the stock android interface and monthly updates, go for either of them. Just be careful, apparently the maximum brightness on the HTC is low too.
Nexus 6P is a good device but brightness is quite subpar* ; same goes with battery life, considering the beefy battery it has got!
* all stock

I'm not sure why anyone is complaining about battery life on this device, it performs really well for me. It mostly comes down to individual setup anyway, it's like installing a turbo on your car and then complaining that the car has terrible fuel efficiency.
As for whether it's still worth it, probably not. I certainly wouldn't be opting for Samsung though, and the HTC is nice but you'll be waiting several months for any updates. The next Nexus is only a few months away probably, I'd be waiting for that.
no, definitely go with the HTC 10. I got my 6p and damn the mic, speaks, and call quality is terrible !!!

The only device i would give up pure android for is HTC. Sense is my second favorite if not par with stock android.
After been with HTC One M8 for a year and a half, than switching for LG G4.
I know how good HTC devices is, only problem is that here in ny country HTC ain't popular, most people's buy iPhone or Samsung and lately LG. Which cost me when i sold my M8, after bought it for 700$ and sold for only 250$ in new condition.
I guess the brightness on the Nexus 6P is higher than HTC 10 and my LG G4.

(S7 edge and note 5)
Is the amazing display and brightness.
All other thing's including software is awful, at least for me.
S7 edge is a really beauty device, but way too expensive.
If I'll buy the HTC 10 i could live with the several month's update because it has sense which is the closets one to pure android. But also there, too expensive..
What do you mean by few month's away?
I guess also when it'll come out it'll be expensive, and till than my G4 will loss another 200$.
I'll wait for more answers, What bothering me mostly on the Nexus 6P is SD810, as G4 has SD808 which is not that different..

You won't be waiting "several months" for any updates. The software on the 10 is similar to the A9 and is actually closer to stock than the A9 which got updates roughly 15 days after Nexus devices. Definitely not several months.

I am coming from the M9. The 6P blows it away in every category you mentioned. I can't even get cell reception in my basement on the M9 and the 6P has 2-3 bars. Since nobody really has the 10 other than reviewers you can't really definitely make that statement.
I will say I already miss Sense somewhat. I like having screenshot in the drop down quick settings. Where is the battery percentage? I have the system tuner version but it is useless once you get into the 50-60's percentage. Why no option to restart instead of just turning off? Gmail is terrible for exchange. I tried it again in hopes that the update this week would address some problems but it sucks. The camera app on the 10 will be much better than the 6P. HTC Mail is way better and I can't get hacked versions of HTC apps to work that is on XDA. HTC does some really good things to compliment Android without being overbearing like Touchwiz which keeps it running smooth years later, unlike Samsung. They are subtle but when you don't have them you start to notice.
That said, I was not about to pay $300 more for the 10. If it was the same price. I would have bought it. No phone is worth $1,000.

Coming from the M9 it is way better. I guess it all depends on your frame of reference and if you had a S6 S7 Samsung screen before. I can also see what people talk about with this display vs a LCD one on HTC. The images just are more vivid and punchy. If you like the flat look you can change that on the 6P as well. I like the saturation though for a change. The 10's screen is better than the M8 and M9 but not as good as the 6P. At least not $300 better. That's for sure.

You are right, i won't buy a phone that cost more than 700$.
My HTC One M8 cost me 700$ and i enjoyed him the whole time i had him
(a year and a half).
When i moved to G4 i missed the sense as well.
But over time you get used to what ever phone you have, unless you have Samsung
Also i wanted to ask you, as i still wait for more answers, don't wanna rely on one person.
What do you say about the brightness on the 6P? how's it's handle direct sun and outdoors visibility? And how's the camera?

The display used in nexus 6p is made by Samsung... I don't think brightness should be an issue... Also you could use ultra brightness mode in elementalx kernel... Regarding camera it's good.... Haven't used g4 so can't exactly compare them... Pm me your email. I will send you photos captured by 6p..
Note: sd810 doesn't support 10bit hevc hardware decoding whereas s7 exynos supports it... So sd820 may support it too... Shouldn't bother you if you don't watch 10bit videos on phone.
Samsung = Knox.
If you want to tether on an UDP (Verizon) you must have root for WiFi tether.
So if I were to buy a phone today, unless I could unlock the bootloader, the device is not on my shopping list.
So for me on Verizon, Nexus or HTC. With HTC you can at least usually pay someone for S-Off.
I have an M9 from day one last year. Really liked it but got the 6P last November because of the improved camera. Also because the monthly updates it receives.

Really on the fence atm as well.. The 32gb is about $650 CAD and the 64gb is about $700 CAD on Newegg.. Ive been running through reviews and comparison videos all week and I am so close to purchasing it, but the price still kind of hurts. It has everything I need, but battery life seems to vary among everyone. The camera also seems to have some issues and lag time between users. The most recent update was suppose to fix it, but some users are still experiencing slow-downs. The phone is almost 7 months old, but since its by Google, updates will always be rolling out.
Love stock android as I had the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 5, but moved away to the Asus Zenfone 2, which is already experiencing slow downs and my camera is all wonky. I would never purchase a phone over $600, but the Nexus 6P is looking amazing. Right now, I am just looking for a way to justify buying it
Hello all
Been a flash addict for years now, and have always loved Nexus line of phones. This last year I got the LG V10 (preordered) instead of the 6P.
I am still using my V10 and have very few real complaints with it. But I miss being able to root
I see the deal on Beat Buy for a refurb 32G 6P ~$315 and want to pull the trigger.
Would you guys pull the trigger on this phone, having used it the last X amount of months already? I want to have a phone I can enjoy, flash anything on, and still at the end of the day enjoy as much as my V10
Thx for the input!

Most definitely. I love stock Android and the fact that I'm already using Android n and will have the final official version months before. Overall I like Samsung hardware/design but their downfall is 5+ month wait for updates and the fact that touchwiz starts to lag. That in my opinion is unacceptable. I also love the stereo speakers and the big screen. Overall it's the perfect package at least for me

Thank you!
I am blessed with a great camera on the V10. However even though it's one of the most vanilla OS skins LGs UI has begun to lag horrendously over the last couple months.

The 6p is the best phone I've ever had. I don't even look at, or shop for other phones and I don't think I will for a while. The only thing it sucks at, imho, are macro photos.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Definitely. One detraction: thermal throttling SUCKS on there 6p. Until you root and change there thermal settings, gaming is crap. Otherwise, love it!

I'll be honest with you, and I doubt many people would feel the same way I do, but I recently bought a 6p (simply because of the ridiculous price I managed to snag it at) which I use as a travel phone and something to store my offline Spotify playlists on.
My main phone is an S7 Edge, begrudgingly bought as the Note 5 wasn't released in the UK and I had previously used a Note 4.
After playing around with the 6p, I find myself gravitating towards it.
It's a fantastic phone, don't get me wrong- it's huge, but it's freakin' incredible.
I'm genuinely considering swapping my sim over to my 6p and leaving the S7 Edge on the side.
The only thing that keeps me with the S7 is the camera, however, I can't fault the 6p.
It's a great phone.
I'd highly recommend it.
Oh also, I'm running the Android N Dev preview.
It's FANTASTIC.
Just my opinion
As someone who has bought and sold over half a dozen phones in 2 years, I dumped my Note 4 for the 6P and haven't looked back. I've had it for about a year now, and I have no desire to get anything else. The others all left me wanting in some way, but I'm thoroughly impressed with the 6P. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat if I had to, it's definitely worth the price.

Bought mine late (a few months ago) after my LG G4 died twice (boot loop error and wifi issues, and my wife's G4 is doing the same now). I wouldn't think a phone that has been out this long would still be on top, but this thing is great. I have no issue with the camera (yes, its slow in HDR, but it has to process the image), the fingerprint sensor is a must-have (my first phone with one), and the size is perfect. Its big, but not too big. Screen is awesome too. My only issue is with the bluetooth, and its just minor stuff, but I'm not a heavy BT user to begin with. Battery is amazing so far as well. I will not go back to LG for quite some time. I loved my G3, but the G4 was total garbage. The camera was good, but waaaaaay overprocessed by their software.
The 6P is a total winner
I got mine as a gift (yeah I know) in July. I love this phone. Yeah, granted gameplay isn't the greatest for me. For graphic intense games stutter quite a bit and battery life isn't the greatest (I think this phone might be defective), but vanilla Android has been the way to go for me. The HTC 10 would've been my next choice though. So in short, yes I would definitely buy this phone.
Thank you all for the input. I am hoping that best buy will still be offering the refurb 32g at the $315 price point next week when I get paid... Does anyone know if it will still be up at that point?
I find myself wanting this phone more now that I know it can be had, I wanted this phone when it was released. I will definitely pull the trigger if the deal is still going next week.
Thank you!

I think you could find a better price on swappa or similar. Amazon prime was selling them cheap. Not sure about the best by y promotion though, sorry

Definetely I would buy it again. On Nougat DP4 it's massive.
Absolutely. What other phone out right now today is as good as a high end pure Android phone ? Galaxy S7 Edge ? LOL no thanks. HTC 10 ? Been there done that was ok. OnePlus Three ? LOL nope. iPhone ? HAHA
My wife gifted me a 6P at Xmas last year to replace my aging HTC M7. I have to say this is the best phone I've had. However I would not purchase one tomorrow, it is far to close to the release of a new set of Nexus devices to even consider purchasing this phone right now. I would personally wait and do one of two things.
1. When the new Nexus comes out and if money isn't an issue I'd go ahead and pickup whatever replaces the 6p.
2. When the new Nexus comes out and if I wanted bang for buck I'd buy a heavily discounted 6p.

I was about to post a disappointed with 6p post in general but I'll start here instead. I LOVE Android and the phones and want to love the 6p but I just cannot keep it as my primary.
What I love:
Screen is beautiful
Battery life and charging speed are great
Speakers are really nice
Phenomenal cameras
Why I can't keep using it:
Phone conversation quality is just above terrible with headphones. I have constant complaints over the quality on the other end when I use any headphones, doesn't matter brand, style, etc. Would LOVE any fixes people have found.
The 810 is a horrible processor. I cannot believe how hot this phone has to get to just run average games. I live between the iOS and Android world, l just enjoy seeing what they both have to offer. My nearly 2yr old 6+ crushes the 6p in gaming, any game, any tweak, doesn't matter they just run better. On top of that using the thermal tweak to reduce, it doesn't get rid of, the gaming lag turns the phone into lump of hot coal. I can't comfortably take a call if I've been playing a game.
Ambient display, I've had to turn it off because no matter how I positioned my phone it would turn on in my pocket and I'd have a long typed up message of garble or something else very random on screen.
I so badly want to love this phone, it's a great size, I love Google integration, I love Android, I just can't use it as a daily driver.
Yes and no.
It's a great phone with a gorgeous screen and big display But..... The 810 Is horrible and throttles heavily, the build quality isn't great and the videos are horrible without OIS. I wouldn't buy it again at this point in time, I'd wait for the Note 7 or the next Nexus.

The Pure is an awesome phone. It has been my favorite and could be perfect with a bit better battery life.
Time marches on and I can't say I am enthused with the new Moto line coming out. Also not sure about Lenovo.
It just doesn't feel right that Moto is no longer American.
So what are you folks planning on going to next?
I would love a stripped down Sony or HTC. Not keen on Samsung. Apple, only if they offer a model with stock Android[emoji13].
Thoughts?

Samsung. Maybe de 7 Edge, great specs and battery life, Lately Samsung improves a lot system updates ( and i will buy unlocked)
Stock Android is great, but sometimes lack from cool features like theming, gestures etc. HTC m10 is option, but i dont know.
Other options are OnePlus 3 and the AXON.
Most probably a Nexus device.
Im waiting for a new nexus. 1+3 is good but not kicking my ass do a sold them after two Weeks and back to moto
halo moto \m/
Likely the smaller of the two new Nexus devices, provided the battery life/build material is comparable to the larger alternative. This also hinges on whether or not it'll work on all carriers, which I assume it will.
I have my eye on the Axon 7 but I been reading there is alot of bugs with it so far.... I almost pulled the trigger on a nexus 6p .
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
Definitely a Nexus. Probably in a year or two, I'm pretty good with my phone. Now if Lenovo doesn't upgrade this sucker to Android N then I might ditch it and switch early to the HTC-made Nexus Sailfish. But, I can't see the future so, who knows.
I'm thinking Nexus but I plan to stick with the Pure for at least another year or so. I might even go for another Moto phone. My main requirements will be that it has to be unlocked and no bloat (I actually like the few bashed on features the MXPE has). At the moment the Nexus and Moto lines meet this requirement. Only time will tell.

I also had an interest in the Axon 7 but as you say there are reports of bugs. I read one owner had issues with his Axon using 19% idle over night. Doesn't work with android pay either at the moment. Thankfully supplies are tight so no temptation to buy one in UK.
I have been considering a Samsung gs7 edge now price has eased. Just can't pluck up the courage to buy one. The glass back puts me off. Can't get enthusiastic about the new Moto Z phones and don't currently appeal. The new nexus phones when they are released may be worth consideration but I've never had any luck with HTC phones in the past.
So I'm stuck with the X Style which is no great hardship! Battery generally lasts the day, the display is nice and bright when required, the speakers are very good and it just works day in day out. The one thing I do wish though is that it was 5.2" as it's just a little cumbersome to use one handed. But the big display is good for Web browsing and vids.
So I'll either stick with the X STYLE or at some point get a Samsung GS 7 Edge, but will see what the new Nexus phones are like too when released.
I'll probably pick up a 6p once the new Nexuses are out and people start flooding Swappa.
Le Max 2, Axon 7, 1+3 or a Nexus device (either the 6P or 2016 5" if it has a 821 and is under 400)
From the pick at the moment probably the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe, but not till I see how it fares in real reviews.
The new moto phones are a big step back from the pure for me.
maybe the moto z more likely the note 7 if it gets root pretty quick.
my pure seems to be developing issues as it nears the warranty date actually i think it just past that on the 18th of july and i have been having issues now for about a week...
And i have a used note 3 that still works great... has better battery life than the pure too...
New smaller Nexus. I want faster updates and more ROMs to choose from.
I honestly have no idea. I'm not enthusiastic about any of the new phones. Seems almost every manufacturer is reverting from a 5.7" screen to 5.5" which is a deal breaker for me. Also need root and I'm on Verizon which cuts my current, and future options down to just my current x pure, or a semi-rooted S7.

Honestly... I might go back to my Moto G 2015, this phone is great except the battery life. Going from 5+ hours of SOT per day to barely 3.5 is tough. Maybe a G4 or even wait for the next Nexus devices.

Returning my Note 7 to BB today and just going to stick with my old Note 3 for now. I grabbed the N7 when the charge port in my N3 literally went up in smoke, even though I didn't really care for it or any phone on the market right now. Being on sprint network there really aren't many options for phones these days. I was looking at the pixel xl but it doesn't seem to work easily on sprint and I have to agree with everything in this video. Not mine - but seems pretty accurate really.
I took it as just another persons opinion, but he makes many valid points that can't be denied.
I was able to buy the charge port for my N3 for $5 and repaired it myself in 10 minutes. Believe it or not my N3 outperforms the N7 in every way except photo quality.
I wish everyone well with their pixel phones. Who knows, maybe someday I'll even end up with one, but I'm really hoping my N3 last until the next gen pixel and they add back the features they took away like dual front speakers, ois, micro sd slot, removable battery and larger screen. I realize removable battery may be gone forever, but it's more important to me than being able to submerse in water.

Yeah, that dude is simply mad about everything...
1. The bezels are there because when you hold the phone it puts the prime real estate at your thumb height. Otherwise you have to bend your thumb down and reposition the phone. Also gives you something to hold in landscape mode besides the screen.
2. O.i.s. not needed..eis is great. No moving parts to break.
3. Design is not copying the iPhone. iPhone copied HTC. Google it.
Love the phone and battery life is amazing compared to any previous Nexus. Easy upgrade from Nexus 6p, which I owned before this.

I'm also on Sprint, what type of Sim did they give you? I'm using the one from my HTC 10 currently and I can't seem to get mms and SMS to work correctly. Can you confirm that you can send texts over 160 characters in stock messenger?
if you are having problems with sms/mms, its usually due to an incorrect APN; check your settings and confirm they are correct
I've had the XL since Friday and I have to be honest, it's going back. I think Google really made a mediocre phone but released it at the perfect time. I still don't understand why everyone thinks this phone is so great and revolutionary.
I got this from Verizon as a replacement for my Note 7 and to be honest I was super excited about it because of Google Assistant. I was wrong to be excited. I don't see it being any more useful than what's already on every other Android phone when you say "OK Google" and in 6 months you'll be able to download the assistant onto any Android phone from the Play Store.
No microsd, no wireless charging, no waterproofing... why are we being charged so much for a phone that looks like the iPhone 5 plus? The bezels on a top and bottom are way too big for this phone (they are) and the two tone back of the phone makes it feel like cheap plastic, not to mention the antenna bands. Two years ago this phone would have been worth it, now it should really cost about half of what they're asking for it.
I have an iPhone 7 plus for work and I have an S7 Edge. Both are better choices but I'm going to keep the note 7, it seriously is the best phone I've ever used. I just hope it isn't my last.

I don't understand, You said buy an iPhone 7 plus cause it's better. But iphone 7 plus doesn't have microad, wireless charging, bezels that are even larger than the pixel xl, and have just as many antenna bands. Looks is very objective, I agree that note 7, iPhone and s7 edge are all good looking phones, but I personally think the Pixel looks just as good.
So everything you criticized against the pixel, iPhone 7 plus are the same or worse. I will give you the water resistant part, that's about the only quality you mentioned that is better than the pixel.
I agree the note 7 is a pretty awesome phone, but good luck bringing it on a plane since it's illegal, and good luck getting support and updates since Samsung will do neither of those 2 things. I would hate to see someone discover some major bug and security threat with the note 7 and you will never get an update for it. Anyway enjoy your note 7, I myself will enjoy my pixel in 2 days.

I wasn't really advocating specifically for the iPhone 7 plus, I'm really not much of an apple fan but you do get much more for your dollar. I hear you about the note 7, I think it really sucks that such an amazing phone had such a tragic end.
I really hope you do enjoy the pixel xl and post everything you like about it. I'm going to keep it for I think it's 30 days I have (with a Verizon business account) to give if more of a chance. Maybe it will grow on me or maybe I'm just honestly not using the assistant the way it was intended to be used.

I'm not a big iPhone fan either, my wife uses an iPhone 7 so I occasionally use hers. I also used my dad's iPhone 7 plus for a day before giving it to him, didn't see anything it has that's better than the pixel. One thing I do like is the 7plus camera 2x zoom feature.
I just feel the pixel is getting some unfair treatment. Most people just can't accept the price, so they try to find reasons why it's not worth it. I really only see 1 or 2 things other flagship phones that actually is better. But then if you count in the unlimited storage for full size pictures and videos Google is giving you, and fast updates, those features alone more than make up for it.

But when your talking about paying more and getting less that is where the problem lies. I do agree with people about the water rating yes would be nice but not a necessity. The no ois is fine also.
But no sd card slot is googles way of trying to shove on line storage down our throat. Why should we use on line storage that is hackable and not secure.
Has no one read the reports of how most if not all the celebrity nude pics got hacked ? They are believed to be hacked from " the cloud " as these celebrities I doubt most gave them out or leaked them.
Also sd card storage is not only safer but it costs you no data use meaning not using high cost verizon data, and sd cards use way less battery power to access your files over on line storage.
Then there is the mono as in one speaker lol. Ok no front facing stereo speakers, but they could have copied the Htc 10 stereo speakers enabling the top speaker you use for calling to hear your calls on, which the audio would be so much better had they and louder. I highly doubt that Htc would not allow them to use that stereo speaker set up on the pixels.
Htc vs google is Htc saying sure google whatever you want we will make it happen lol.
I think the pixel is indeed overpriced. If it wasnt for the camera i would defintly go for a chinese phone.
I had a note 7, note 5 and a s6 before this, and the bloatware really hampers those phones.
Currently im on a huawei phone with only a 616 snapdragon and the os is way more reponsive than any of my samsungs.
So the pixel is my only real option to get a bloatware free phone with a flagship camera.

Like everyone else, I lament the demise of the Note 7 which in my mind was the best smartphone ever. I exchanged for the S7 Edge and though likeable, the VZW bloatware bogged it down. I also found it difficult to type on due to the curved screen edges and the keyboard felt a bit more cramped than Note 7 thanks to slightly smaller screen real estate: I made more typing/swyping mistakes. I did load the Unlocked firmware and what a difference it made as the phone was faster and battery improved tremendously. But, I did return it yesterday and my Pixel XL arrives tomorrow, so am keeping fingers crossed I like it. I can always return the Pixel and either wait for LG V20 or go back to Edge (but by that time we will be in November time frame and just a few months away from any Samsung newer Galaxy model) or continue using my 6P which still serves me well.
