So every time I install a new rom I do a fresh install of all my apps. The biggest pain is setting everything back up page by page.
Titanium backup. Backup all of the launchers you use before a rom flash. After rom is flashed and your apps are restored, use titanium to restore data of the launchers.

Evie Launcher saves your layout to your Google account. You can backup and restore as you please.

Hi All,
I use Titanium Pro to back up my EVO so doing a full wipe is relatively painless and automated. However, although Titanium restores the placeholders for my widgets, I have to re-add them manually. For some widgets that require modifications (Pure Calendar, etc), this can be a pain.
What I would love (and gladly pay for), is an app that could save and restore my desktop widgets exactly as they were prior to a full wipe. Nandroid does this but of course, using Nandroid would negate my new rom flash.
Any ideas?
Along this train of thought, is it possible to do a Nandroid Backup and Restore that restores everything EXCEPT the rom and kernel you just flashed?
You can do this with adw and launcher pro just save your desktop, wipe, then use titanium to restore apps then restore your desktop with which ever launcher.
Thats what I do using adw.

This is exactly what I do, however Launcher Pro will not restore widgets...rest of desktop yes..No big deal I just re-add the 2-3 widgets I have and go on.
This may have been asked before in stages but a thread stating the full process would be nice.
I am using Cyanogenmod 6.1 (nightly) on my wildfire. It works nice apart from the video recorder and the wifi which has an issue of freezing streaming of video after 5 minutes.
Before putting on Cyanogen I backed up my original ROM to nandroid and also a copy of my sd card to pc. Since then I've got my phone setup nicely with a lot of apps free and paid and ADW launcher customised.
The thing is I'd like to try one of the other custom roms and would like to do a full backup of everything. I'm a little unsure of the apps required and whether a restore will get my phone back to the exact state it is now with full customisation of ADW and all my shortcuts on seperate screens etc including some custom icons using pictures on sd card.
Download Titanium Backup from the Marketplace.
When you start it up, hit Menu and then Batch. Scroll down to Backup all system and app data, or something along those lines.
Once you reflash, download Titanium Backup again and hit Menu, Batch, Restore all apps and data.
If you just want to try out other rom, then a nandroid backup is for you. Think of it like a image capturing all your settings,apps and rom.
As for transfering apps, then you will need Titanium Backup.
So will the nandroid backup just backup my cyanogenmod rom with its pre-installed apps or does this include google apps as this was a seperate flash? The Titanium Backup of apps sounds good but what about my shortcuts and layouts of widgets/apps and settings using ADW launcher?
Nandroid backs up the whole thing in case you fudge up a new install. Titanium backs up your apps, data and settings.

ADW launcher has a backup and restore function

I'm thinking of doing a full system wipe and reinstall cyanogenmod 7.03. What I don't understand is the steps involved. When you do a full wipe, Titanium is not installed. So after the first reboot, do you skip through android initial set up and go to market and install titanium backup? And once you go to market you need to log on anyways, so once you log on, by default it will automatically download all missing apps.
So I need a step by step on how to recover backup from titanium after a full wipe. Also, can it backup my settings for my adw launcher ex? Like restore how my widgets look etc....

Once you do the wipe and boot up just sign in to Google as usual because your gonna have to in order to download Titanium Backup. Its supposed to automatically reinstall your apps once you sign in but I've noticed that on GB ROMs it doesn't for me.
Once in Titanium hit menu and hit batch. Scroll down to restore and select which one you want to run. You can select which apps you want to restore or deselect which ever. You can also select if you want to restore the data associated with your apps or just the apps themselves. As for ADW, not sure as I dont use it.
can batch restoring also include system applications which are not relevant if I have installed a completely different rom? is it harmless, or it can override important system applications with same name and cause problems?

I know you can back them up and restore them but on different ROMs I dont think they'll play right. Not sure about that because I have never backed system apps or settings do to flashing different ROMs. Give it a try and see what happens. Just make sure you backup in case some thing goes wrong.
Does anyone know how to back up the stock launcher settings, mainly the homescreen layouts and folders, so that they can be restored after (re)installing a ROM?

Titanium Backup does this, but be aware that if you install a from with a different launcher version, it will not work.

If you open Titanium Backup and go to the backup/restore tab and back everything up, all of you launcher settings (Desktop and it"s contents) are saved. This is because your desktop launcher is an app. Now to clarify what my beware statement was; if you are on Honeycomb and do a backup, then flash an ICS rom, your saved Launcher settings will not work because the Launcher in ICS is version 4.0.3 while the launcher in Honeycomb was 3.x.x. As far as TiBu is concerned they are different apps and you do not have a backup for the newer version. Now if you are using ADW or Launcher Pro it will work just fine. If you are doing updates on say Eos Nightlies for ICS your backups for the app [Desktop] Launcher 4.0.3 are the settings for the stock launcher and should be restorable. You can also install the ICS Launcher that Cyanogen is creating called Trebuchet and do backups and restores of your desktop with this as well. I hope this helps. Let me know if this does or doesn't make sense to you.

A long time ago I got into the habit of backing up user data only because backing and restoring system data would give me many issues when flashing ROMs. You made me realize that I can chose to back up system data and backup/restore the stock launcher. Thanks again.

When you switch ROMs, what's the easiest way to restore everything else? Android will restore apps (and their data?) but how do you restore all your shortcuts, folders and such?
There are so many cool ROMs on here to try but it takes me hours to restore everything, I usually just try one and end up keeping it.
Titanium Backup Pro, take a full system backup, after flashing a new ROM just restore the install missing apk option only, and other than text messages and call logs, everything will be restored.

I used to backup apps using ES and also install them back and finally after installing all apps, I used to recover my Nova backup, which would setup my homescreen, icons, widgets and shortcuts...
I'd recommend not to backup and restore app data for all apps as I see few people reporting issues with it

What do you do instead? Do you just re-install all of them manually? That's so time consuming, it takes me almost a whole day!

I'll open the apk backup folder in ES and select all and click Install. I'll automatically show next app once the first one is installed. Just need to Click install and done. No need to manually go back to folder and install separately

No it won't. Few developers recommend not to restore data as it may cause force closes

If it's not recommended to backup and restore app data, then isn't it easier just to use Android's built in app backup and restore?
