Does anyone know how to back up the stock launcher settings, mainly the homescreen layouts and folders, so that they can be restored after (re)installing a ROM?

Titanium Backup does this, but be aware that if you install a from with a different launcher version, it will not work.

I have Titanium Backup pro and I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Sorry, I don't understand your "beware" statement.

If you open Titanium Backup and go to the backup/restore tab and back everything up, all of you launcher settings (Desktop and it"s contents) are saved. This is because your desktop launcher is an app. Now to clarify what my beware statement was; if you are on Honeycomb and do a backup, then flash an ICS rom, your saved Launcher settings will not work because the Launcher in ICS is version 4.0.3 while the launcher in Honeycomb was 3.x.x. As far as TiBu is concerned they are different apps and you do not have a backup for the newer version. Now if you are using ADW or Launcher Pro it will work just fine. If you are doing updates on say Eos Nightlies for ICS your backups for the app [Desktop] Launcher 4.0.3 are the settings for the stock launcher and should be restorable. You can also install the ICS Launcher that Cyanogen is creating called Trebuchet and do backups and restores of your desktop with this as well. I hope this helps. Let me know if this does or doesn't make sense to you.

A long time ago I got into the habit of backing up user data only because backing and restoring system data would give me many issues when flashing ROMs. You made me realize that I can chose to back up system data and backup/restore the stock launcher. Thanks again.

Hey everyone,
Just recently I've switched over to the leaked 2.2 froyo and I bought the donate version for titanium backup. After installing all my apps over to 2.2 it was a pain in the ass to get all my icons and widgets back to where they were.
Is there an easier way to restore settings between roms and have the home screens be the same with some kind of restore?
For example if I backed up leaked froyo right now and tryed out pmf v2.0 I wouldn't want to restore some settings because of the fact that sense is removed and may cause some errors and force closes right? But if I did a full restore going from froyo > skyraider it would be smoother correct?
I just need some clarification of how to restore settings so that when I'm switching between roms there is an easier way rather than taking that extra 25-35 min to get everything back to where it was. Thanks.
Titanium backup allows for you to choose what you want to put back onto your phone. Since its 2.2 -> 2.2 then imo you really shouldn't have any major problems with most things.

Well, yeah I was using titanium backup for restoring all my applications however I didn't want to restore system apps/settings in case it would overwrite the newer and updated core apps to 2.2. How would I go about restoring homescreens and where I put all my icons with titanium backup?
If you use something like launcher pro, you can backup from within the program. Also, titanium backup will do the same. If using sense look for the green desktop item to back up.

both launchers, adw and laucherpro, have a save homescreen icons setting. It's really helpful. Just use titanium backup first...and then restore the launcher files..in that order good luck! Sense can only save scenes..but its too bad you cant save to sd card.

Yeah, see that's what I was looking for is a sense restore with scenes however I didn't want to restore like a sense 2.1 setting over a sense 2.2 setting and mess with any of that. Might use adw since it's pretty b.a.
Hi All,
I use Titanium Pro to back up my EVO so doing a full wipe is relatively painless and automated. However, although Titanium restores the placeholders for my widgets, I have to re-add them manually. For some widgets that require modifications (Pure Calendar, etc), this can be a pain.
What I would love (and gladly pay for), is an app that could save and restore my desktop widgets exactly as they were prior to a full wipe. Nandroid does this but of course, using Nandroid would negate my new rom flash.
Any ideas?
Along this train of thought, is it possible to do a Nandroid Backup and Restore that restores everything EXCEPT the rom and kernel you just flashed?
You can do this with adw and launcher pro just save your desktop, wipe, then use titanium to restore apps then restore your desktop with which ever launcher.
Thats what I do using adw.

This is exactly what I do, however Launcher Pro will not restore widgets...rest of desktop yes..No big deal I just re-add the 2-3 widgets I have and go on.
This may have been asked before in stages but a thread stating the full process would be nice.
I am using Cyanogenmod 6.1 (nightly) on my wildfire. It works nice apart from the video recorder and the wifi which has an issue of freezing streaming of video after 5 minutes.
Before putting on Cyanogen I backed up my original ROM to nandroid and also a copy of my sd card to pc. Since then I've got my phone setup nicely with a lot of apps free and paid and ADW launcher customised.
The thing is I'd like to try one of the other custom roms and would like to do a full backup of everything. I'm a little unsure of the apps required and whether a restore will get my phone back to the exact state it is now with full customisation of ADW and all my shortcuts on seperate screens etc including some custom icons using pictures on sd card.
Download Titanium Backup from the Marketplace.
When you start it up, hit Menu and then Batch. Scroll down to Backup all system and app data, or something along those lines.
Once you reflash, download Titanium Backup again and hit Menu, Batch, Restore all apps and data.
If you just want to try out other rom, then a nandroid backup is for you. Think of it like a image capturing all your settings,apps and rom.
As for transfering apps, then you will need Titanium Backup.
So will the nandroid backup just backup my cyanogenmod rom with its pre-installed apps or does this include google apps as this was a seperate flash? The Titanium Backup of apps sounds good but what about my shortcuts and layouts of widgets/apps and settings using ADW launcher?
Nandroid backs up the whole thing in case you fudge up a new install. Titanium backs up your apps, data and settings.

ADW launcher has a backup and restore function
Can someone tell me the proper way to fully restore all apps using titanium backup and google restore?
Should I allow google to restore what it can and then let Titanium backup do the rest? When I tried this way it seemed that TB didnt restore all of my app information (such as game progress). When I tried to skip the google restore and let TB do all the work, it restored everything but now none of my apps show up in the market so I dont think they will show updates.

I did this and my apps don't show up in the market so I don't think they will show updates. Also this method doesn't restore my settings for the OS.

showing up in the market has to do with your linked email address
some settings cant be saved onto an sd card so they cant be restored

Can you explain how to do this? Right now I have all my apps restored but they don't show up in market.
I was thinking let android do a restore of my apps first and then run TB to restore all the settings but I dont think it will restore settings of apps that are already installed.

Firgured it out.
I wiped, loaded new rom, startup screen up restored all apps from android backup. Then loaded up and restored "app data only" for all my apps.
I now have all my apps installed, all their info was retained, and they all show up in the market.
The only thing that didnt get fully restored was my home screens and all the settings in the main settings app.

If you're using ADW, you can back up your settings right from ADW settings.
If you're not using ADW.....I'm sorry.

Everything within ADW, yes.
I usually do the titanium restore first thing then after a while the market catches up, some of my apps are side loaded so it saves alot of trouble. Adw Is great for restoring screen transitions, rows and columns etc.

I know that we need to wipe everything before flashing a rom. I was just wondering what you guys do to make it easier to restore everything such as apps and the homescreen/widgets layout I already have (I'm using nova launcher btw).
I spend too much time trying to make everything perfect and when I find a new rom I want to try I don't want to have to go through the trouble of setting it up all again.

Titanium Backup to backup and restore apps. It will save the app data as well so you won't lose game save progress, carefully customized settings, etc. as you would if you just restored from the play store after resynching your account. Buy a pro key, its worth the few bucks for fully automated app restore, otherwise when you go to restore all of your apps you will have to sit there and tap accept on every single one when it tries to install them all (at least that part is still automated).
Nova launcher has a backup and restore function in Nova settings. Make sure the check box to restore widget's faster is checked. Restores wallpaper, widgets, layout, settings, etc.
Before you wipe and flash, back up user apps (NOT system data too, just apps) and back up nova settings. Then reboot to recovery, wipe/flash/reboot. Log in to play store and download Titanium Backup first, and nothing else. Stop the play store from redownloading all of your apps if it starts that process because they won't have all of your data from before. Once TiBu is installed, batch restore all of your apps. Then, go in to nova settings and restore they back up you made.
Fully automated, couldn't be any easier with TiBu Pro and nova backup/restore.
