So I've been using the S8 US Unlocked Model G950U1 for a few weeks and no issues with Samsung Pay. Last night I noticed that the Samsung Pay Framework updated from 2.7.55 to 2.7.76.
Then when I opened up the Samsung Pay app (2.7.13) it says to update and then closes, but can't find an update. So I went to APK Mirror and install version 2.7.15. When I open it, it also says to update app, shows it downloading 36MB, but then says the update is not available.
Nothing I've tried works, fully uninstalling Samsung Pay, and I try to remove Samsung Pay Framework (or uninstall the update) but says it can't be uninstalled.
After trying several Samsung Pay apk files on APK Mirror, the only one that now works is version 2.8.20. I was able to re-add my Visa, but the Rewards info is gone and the layout is completely different.
Still would like to get it back to the way it was, without having to do a full factory reset.
I think the initial problem was from when Samsung Pay Framework updated from 2.7.55 to 2.7.76.
Was at a store tonight that I've used S Pay before without problem, but with the S Pay 2.8.20 and Framework 2.7.76 it would not work.
So somehow have to find a way back to the other versions (like I said, I think the issue is with the Framework).
Still would like to do with without a factory reset...but if that's what it takes...

I've been using Samsung Pay on my Gear S3 connected to my S5 running @jrkruse Stock/Rooted DEODEXED QA1 - been working perfectly.
Just got notice on my phone that a Samsung Pay update failed. When I opened it, it says:
"Samsung Pay cannot be accessed by rooted devices for security reasons. Unroot your device in order to use Samsung Pay"
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
PS The watch actually still looks like it always has - like it should still work, but I haven't tried it since this phone update. Gear S3 Samsung Pay version is 1.3.2103.
Although my rooted Nexus 6P also would not update, the Gear continued to work with SP until I ended up having to re-pair the phone and watch. At that point it no longer worked. Oddly I removed root and turned off developer options and Pay is still telling me that I'm rooted. Used a root checker and verified that I'm no longer rooted. Not sure what to do at this point.
I Haven't rooted my phone yet but it keeps telling me this when I open android pay, when I first got my phone I set my up my card but now it saying that phone is either rooted or bootloader unlocked which isn't the case.
On Vodafone UK, before this I used my OP3 with Magisk with Android Pay but I haven't used that since I've got my s8 so I'm not sure what the issue could be.
Any insight to this?
Besides the usual factory reset.
same here EE UK S8 not rooted (yet) but comes up with same error message. It worked fine on my rooted and hidden with magisk S6
edit - oh and factory reset doesn't work as I already tried that. I thought it might have had something to do with bringing over magisk app from my google backup but I specifically didnt install that the 2nd time around. Knox hasn't been tripped so its not that
I'm having the same issue on a Galaxy S8 via Tmobile. I've never rooted it, have no clue if the bootloader is unlocked and I'm stock since I reset the phone the first time I got the error. Still getting the error and Android pay help chat was not useful.
Same issue here, on Voda UK. I used Package Disabler pro and thinking I might have disabled something I need.
So since I had OEM unlock enabled after disabling it, it passes and safetynet now.
I had no problems adding cards, but a few days later when I wanted to add more cards, I get the error. I can't remember what I did in between that would've caused this, but definitely not rooting! I turned developer option to off and still get the error.
My S7 is rooted and TWRPed and have no problems adding cards!!!!???
Very weird. Working just fine on my rooted s8+ with magisk.
I'm on T-Mobile with a S8 and Android Pay connected to my PayPal is getting card read error everywhere I try to use it.
Safety net says everything is ok too. Not sure what's going on. I have the newest update and not rooted.

Hi Can you let me know how you managed to root with Magisk and get Android pay etc to work?
My phone:
Model: SM-G955F
SW: G955FXXU1AQF7
I tried rooted and couldn't get it working, and now recovered to official ROM and still can't get it to work?!?
Dont you people know anythin?
All EU(exynos) S8 and other galaxies come with unlocked bootloaders. Thats causing the problem
Lock it
Hi all,
I already posted a question in the Official stock upgrade but it got lost in the other comments, so I'm trying my luck again.
I had an italian branded SM-G950F (OMN), I wanted to remove all the Vodafone stuff, so I installed a MULTI-CSC as per the official stock firmware upgrade thread, when I did it I had my Australian sim card in and I got a weird UK CSC (the multi CSC didn't have australia in it), after installing everything I noticed that Android Pay didn't work, so I did a factory reset with my italian sim card in and still Android Pay was complaining that my firmware was modified or rooted.
I decided to use an australian specific firmware so I downloaded an XSA firmware and did the procedure again.
At this stage Secure Folder and Samsung Pay work (the phone is NOT rooted, this update has been the only "mod" I have done) but Android Pay is still saying that my rom may be modified or rooted so it doesn't open.
It is pretty important for me because my back supports android pay but not samsung pay
The phone is not rooted, if I reboot the phone in download mode the warranty void bit is 0 (which is good).
If I use Root Checker Pro, under safety net tab, I get CTS profile match as FAIL, I was thinking this could cause Android Pay to fail.
any idea?
start to uninstall suspicious apps, then restart . worked with my un-rooted S8. OEM unlock: OFF

Does rooting in UK\Europe void our warranty?

Hi mariuscrist,
I'm not sure what app can be suspicious, I have reinstalled the apps I had before the firmware update and I could use android pay then. I'll see what it can be, probably it could be worth to do a factory reset and test android pay before anything else?
OK guys, sorry I know this has been brought up a bit, but I've been determined to find a solution. I've been trying to get Samsung Pay to work. More specifically because I use it a lot and have a Gear S3 that I want it to work with.
Yes I did research before I rooted, and it appeared there were many solutions to this problem, but I've tried them all and none have worked. I just want to see if anyone at all has got this working. Maybe I can update with different things everyones tried as we go. I feel like there HAS to be a way to make this work. If anyone has gotten this to work in any way, please post!
My Phone: SM-G950F
Knox Status: 0x1 (Faked 0x0 by Magisk)
ROM: Renovate Ice 5.1
CSC Version: SPE (Spain)
From my research, the SPE seems to be open to Samsung pay along with some others. I have encountered different error messages with different combinations of software, hiding Samsung Pay in Magisk, etc. It might just be due to newer and older version of Samsung Pay
Things I've tried:
Fake 0x0 with Magisk, v13.6, 13.7, 14.0
Hide root status with Magisk
1.3.7 Samsung Pay Gear Plug-In (I found somewhere that said this version works, although it just keeps updating for me)
Moved /system/xbin/busybox to SD card
Error message I'm receiving on latest software: Access Denied: Samsung Pay has been locked due to an unauthorized modification. Tap the link below to call customer service and unlock Samsung Pay (RD-SXA).
Note, I have not tried calling customer service yet, that will likely be my next step. I will just tell them I bought the phone on eBay and I'm getting this message. I doubt there is anything they can do, but it's worth a try.
Please don't grill me, I know basically everyone claims this is NOT possible with 0x1 due to hardware fuse, etc. I know this community is strong and I've seen people pull off the impossible before, just hoping to get this to work so my S3 Gear doesn't become a paper weight.
The actual functionalities of Samsung Pay (MST for example) are handled by trusted apps running in secure world. Root in normal world does not affect anything there. Saying that we can fool normal world apps, we still can't fool the TA running in secure world. So even though Samsung Pay app can launch, it won't be able to function in the end.
OK, I have an update. I was able to get Samsung Pay (mobile version) to work! The regular version still gives me an error, but if I launch from my watch, it pulls the mobile version instead.
Here's what I did:
**NOTE: This only works if you have a Gear S3, I have not been able to get the full version of Samsung Pay to work on the phone yet.
1. Boot into recovery
2. Wipe all partitions except the SD Card and OTG
3. Installed Renovate Ice 5.1
4. Select Custom CSC during install and chose "214 Spain"
5. At the end of setup, don't reboot, flash magisk again manually (It's installed in the ROM, however this is the only way I found to get the icon to show up)
6. Open Magisk Manager
7. Click Menu and go to "Magisk Hide"
8. Search for "Pay" and check all apps that show up
9. Update all apps and connect S3 as a new device (you can restore apps/settings)
10. Use root explorer to /system/xbin and move busybox to your SD card (Make sure it doesn't exist on internal storage, if it's present, app will fail)
11. Launch Magisk Manager again and search for "Pay", again make sure all are checked, for me there was another new Gear version that I had to check to hide
12. Reboot the phone
13. Hold down top button on S3 to launch Samsung Pay
14. Proceed through wizard and add a card or "Launch" Samsung Pay on the phone from the S3
15. The Samsung Mobile app should open correctly on the phone and let you add cards etc.
If you try to add busybox back and reboot, it will not work. And again, the actual "Samsung Pay" app on the phone does NOT work, I still get an error. Maybe it's not possible.

Nice findings! So Gear S3 has stand alone pay capability even with non-Samsung devices?

I'm not sure about non Samsung devices. All I'm saying is there are 2 versions of Samsung Pay on the S8, one standard version that you would use if you didn't have a Gear S3 and another version that s triggered from the S3 but then runs on phone. That's the one I can get to work.

Does this method work with renovate 7.2? I have followed the steps and appears denied access
Same problem here, and I live in Spain too!
Does it work with other rom?
I have an sm 930f with 0x1 status, also. since the error message has changed and suggests "call customer service to unlock samsung pay at 0330 726 7729" I just got off the phone with UK customer service.
1. agent didn't know anything about unlocking samsung pay
2. since I reside in the U..S he suggested I had to call U.S customer service which I have already done and they know nothing about unlocking samsung pay. Perhaps there's a change in the works but not yet.
I wonder what happens if the flash counter hits 0x9. One more flash and it hits 0x10 or does it go back to 0x0??
Just wondering if this happened to anyone else and how they fixed it? without factory reset which is the last thing, i've yet to try.
Android pay working well, used it a lot, daily usually. Then mid-afternoon got updated to google pay. Then that evening tried to use it denied, stating "you can no longer use google pay on this phone"
So tried to clear cache, reinstall same error. created bug report contacted google support, for them to tell me it's because my phone is rooted. Which it is not, this is a stock phone, I have never tried to root this phone.
I told them it was stock, and that android pay was working and showed them transactions earlier that day at the local garage and then the bug report from when it stopped directly after updating to google pay.
They insist I must relock bootloader and get my manufacturer to help.
any thoughts?
I got the same problem on my s8+ running oreo beta, not rooted. At least Samsung pay works for me.

Are you on the beta oreo?
not on beta oreo. I'll try Samsung pay next time see if it works...
tried Samsung pay today at the garage. worked just fine. Google pay update did break my phone then. Or possibly it maybe bank card related. i may have needed to unregister my card with android pay. Then re -reg with Google and the same card.
edit: tried to delete 're reg card now it states my phone is rooted or boot loader is unlocked. can't even add a card now. guess last thing to try is factory reset.
duplicate post...
well I found the issue. somehow in developers bit the oem unlock was turned on. really not sure how that happened. as I don't go in there ever. only unlocked the developers bit because I could and that was done when I got the phone a year ago. but hope this helps someone else , probably not.
I'm a user who really loves these apps - however they are not available in my region and when I download download them I am told "Google Pay is updating at the moment, so you won't be able to access the app." Is there any way at all to fix this? I can install any apps needed, as long as they don't need root.
You can use a foreign VPN or change the CSC on your phone to launch the app without this message, but the payment itself will still remain an issue.
Sorry I'm new to this. What would changing my CSC do? I have the UK BTU one. And how would I do it?
Also which apps are the one which the VPN needs to change? I'm using Orbot.

Not rooted, it used to work until I updated it.
I have a non-rooted Galaxy S20+, Germany (DBT) CSC and it's stuck in Google Pay is updating.
Tried clearing data/cache and uninstalling/reinstalling Google Play Services and Google Pay.
Have had this issue for months and I ignored it, but now that Google Wallet is a thing I wanted to try it but no luck.
Any ideas?
try this:
1) unlock bootloader
2) fastboot erase cust
3) relock bootloader
see if it works that way after setup.
P.S.
You must enter a pin code during setup for google pay to show up.
Hi guys,
I am posting here in hopes that my solution will help you also!
I have a stock Mate 20 Pro and a few days ago after a factory reset I,ve encountered the "Google Pay is updating at the moment, so you won't be able to access the app." error.
I am from Romania and here GPay transformed onto GWallet. But never the less the error is the same. I've tried all solutions found on the Internet but none worked( clear cache for G play services and G play store, uninstal and reinstall GWallet app, install older versions of GPay and GWallet, even formatted the phone once more). Nothing worked.
The solution that worked for me and there is no reference of it over the net:
1. Find/install on the phone the proprrietary wallet app. Eg: For Huawei - Huawei Wallet, for Samsung - Samsung wallet/Samsung Pay.
2. Open it and give permissions to everything that is asking for. Go until adding a card if it lets you but do not add it.
3. Close the app.
4. Open Google Wallet / Google Pay depending on the country you're in.
5. Enjoy once again GPay!
Hope this will help!
