Why the middle? Nexus 5 was perfect in this regard. Buttons at the top.
I'm also using Spigen case so maybe that's contributing some to the awkwardness but i always push the buttons by accident, even lowering the volume while on calls.

why in the middle? because the phone is large, and placement in the middle gives you quick access to the buttons, instead of constantly sliding to the top of the phone first. my advice, get used to the button placement, as it is much more convenient. about the case, that you have to deal with on your own. as the phone doesnt come with a case, you buy it yourself.
If you're talking about this case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OH4I2LY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 then it's the case. I was just talking to someone about this today. The buttons and button placement of the Nexus is actually perfect. The volume buttons are really just one long button, with a decent gap between the power button above it. Without a case on, it's impossible to confuse which button is which. That completely goes away when you use probably any case, but specifically the Spigen. The reason is the Spigen case is just flat with equal spacing between the buttons. So it's very difficult to know which button you're trying to push since there is no way to "feel" which one it is, as opposed to without having the case. So it's not the phone. The phone buttons are just about perfect in my opinion. Unfortunately, that Spigen case, or any case similar to that, completely ruins it. I still love the Spigen case though.

Yea I have that case and the button implementation stinks. Got a similar case by Ringke and it is far better in placement, actuation, and blind feel.

Do you have a link to that case? I love this Spigen case because of the clear back, good protection and it isnt bulky at all. But the button solution is awful.

Feels better in hand than that Speigen and looks a bit better as well. And covers ports. And is prime.
I have the neo hybrid. My complaint still isn't really with the case though. Just that i pick or hold the phone in the middle where the buttons are like 80% of the time. The other 20% is on the bottom.
If the buttons were up top i wouldn't accidentally bump into them all the time.
agreed

Same here plus the volume button sets very close to clamp on my dock in my car?. Also usually always lower volume when pulling out of pocket.
Ahhhhhh damn. I wish I would have seen that one before. Definitely gonna order this. Thanks for sharing!
My biggest problem with the button placement is when using the speaker phone while driving. I keep placing the phone upside down in my cup holder and about 10 second later the phone restarts. Turns out my cup holder is the perfect size to hold the power button down and hard restart the phone lol.

Yeah I often pick my phone up the wrong way up as its almost symmetrical
Volume should be above the power or opposite side for the reasons other members have mentioned. I find myself hitting the volume alot

I guess Its because I have it in my inside Suit pocket at work, and I'm used to constantly pulling my phone out and hitting the power button at the same time so I can quickly check notifications lol. I suppose once its in my hand properly i'm ok with the butons

Ugh, my phone doesn't fit in my cupholder ?. #firstworldproblems
It was my gripe at first. Now my gripe is why don't they put the buttons on all phones like this :sly:
I hate thelack of seperation between the buttons. Nexus 6 does a good job at texturing power button so i guess i should be blaming this crappy spigen case.
I have the slimarmor case and the buttons are flush with the case so I never realize I'm pressing the buttons until its too late. I would like to go naked but I keep dropping this phone all the time. I usuallydont drop my phones but this this g is aweful.
Still like the phone tho, just might get a different a case or insurance and a backup phone.

The spigen case is definitely the issue, I think they make the worst clear case of any. I have a ringke fusion and a pure gear slim and both are MUCH better than the spigen. With both of those I have no issue accidentally hitting any of the buttons.
I have a gripe about button placement too. I have small hands, being a chick and all, but why so low? My car holder which I used for my N5 and SGS2 now presses the volume buttons if I fully lock it. And why put the volume and power button so close?! I know they made the buttons feel different, but still too close. And taking screen shows is a pain in the A!! im sure there's a work around for Home+volume down but still.
Either way, still love the phone.

I have to disagree. I think it's one of the best clear back cases, except for the buttons. I don't use the buttons much anyway, but the clear case has yet to scratch at all after a month's use. If Ringke's clear back case wouldn't scratch so easily I'd get that for the buttons.
It's like this phone was made for lefties. These buttons are poorly placed and really sensitive, and I keep activating them, especially when i pick the phone up. I had a Speigen tough armor case on my note 4 which flattened out the buttons, and made them less sensitive to press (you'd have to really press them to activate them, on the 6p they activate the moment you touch them).
Does anyone know of a similar case like the one I mentioned for the 6P? this is my only issue, otherwise i love the phone, but it's a very big issue, and I'm considering a Note5, or holding out for the Note 6 if I cant resolve it.
Thanks guys!

You can use any case and simply make sure to shorten the button parts on the inside of the case. This will decrease the sensitivity.

The Adopted case sold through google store makes it a lot worse. Would post a link but being I am a new user I cannot.

I have a Chinese made case by Nillkin. It causes the buttons to be recessed and that decreases the sensitivity for me.

Just got the first case, it's the RhinoShield CrashGuard Bumper , and it completely solves this issue. You have to really press the buttons to activate them, otherwise it is nearly impossible to accidentally do so. I'm completely satisfied, I doubt I'll find a case which better resolves this issue, although I have a few more on the way , so I'll report back on them when they arrive.
The only minor downside to this case, is it has no back, which I normally wouldn't mind at all, except that the 6p has a very slippery back, , and my fingers slide a bit on it if I'm not holding the edges really well. Mostly this is a non issue since I almost always only hold the edges, but i do need to be a bit more careful when using the phone one handed.
I'm really impressed, and I'm never impressed.
JG
Just got two more cases, the Google Nexus 6p case, and the Adopted protected case. They are both very similar, and great cases. Both also resolve the button sensitivity issue. Great fit on both, they both are slightly tacky on the sides as well. The only real difference is the Google case has some kind of weird industrial carpet type of material on the back, and the Adopted case is plain rubber/plastic. I like the Google one slightly better. I'm also waiting on a back protector for the Rhino bumper, which is also a great option.

I'm not saying that is loose or something, is just to easy to press it accidentally! My last year device, Droid turbo wasn't like that neither my dad's iphone 6! Maybe is the buttons placement!
Just wondering that! Someone could share their experiences

I had the exact same problem. I actually hate the button placement on this phone. It was driving me crazy until I got my RhinoShield. Now I rarely press on the buttons hard enough to activate them.
Also any case that covers the power and volume buttons makes it nearly impossible to take a screen shot or boot into recovery. I have the official Nexus case on my device

Me too. Those buttons are just too easy to press. It's a minor annoyance really as the rest of the phone is almost perfect.
Hey guys, I just got the phone today. Usually the first thing I do is to shake the phone to see if there is any unexpected noise.
UNFORTUNATELY ... It has. The way I shake it is to hold the bottom half and use the top half like a fan. It sounds like a plastic piece that keeps bumping.
Then I tried to hold some parts tight, but the noise was still there. I wasn't able to find the cause.
Any ideas? Thanks! If it's common I will keep the phone, otherwise I'm gonna return the phone before it's too late.

Thanks for the reply. I just powered off, removed the tray with SIM and SD, and shaked again. The sound is still there.
I guess this is due to bad assembly of budget phones ... Did some search and found that maybe the sound is from the camera's OIS module. Unfortunately G5+ doesn't have OIS ...

OK. I think it is the camera module.
The original sound is harsh (just like plastics bumping into each other) , but when I turn on the camera and shake again, the sound is smoother.
So the phone is working as it should but for some reason a person wants to shake it?
It's probably the camera module..try shaking it while the cameras on and see if it still makes that sound.
But really shaking a phone is pretty dumb.

Same thing here. It is the loose volume buttons (not really loose). Just hold them and shake it, no sound.
Try again without SIM tray... Definitely the crackle is louder with it.
Removing it, only left camera module noise, but you should be exaggerating the shake

exactly what i was going to say
if you quickly tap on volume button(in my case volume down) without cover or case you would get thet noise
i can clearly listen and feel the button being loose and so it also happens on shaking phone

No wiggle at all? As solid as perhaps, the volume rocker when you try to wiggle it?
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Yeah they all wiggle a bit. Nothing special about it.
It's so unnoticeable that I can only feel it with my finger, but I barely can see the movement when looking at it.
Like... 1/10 of a milimeter...
I can confirm that the Bixby button "rattles" more than the power and volume buttons. It also doesn't help by the fact that those buttons are so thin in width compared to other phones.
mines wiggles a little bit too. both bixby and power buttons. but my volume buttons are firm.. the two buttons actually has a moving or ticking sound to it when i try to move it a little..

My power and Bixby wobble and wiggle alot... We have 2 S8 plus in our house my buttons feel really loose but the other has only the Bixby button loose... Did this effect your use of the phone? Or did you exchange? I'm usually OCD about new phones that's why I'm being picky about the wiggle... My power button gets pressed hundreds of times a week and want it to last

Nope. I tried out a bunch of other S8s, all had the same small amount of wiggle, so I figured that it was basically futile to find one that was perfectly solid.

Hey thanks for replying.... Just paranoid I guess... Cause my S7edge didn't wiggle like this one... But power button and Bixby wiggle about the same... If they didn't wiggle they would probably get stuck when pushed I guess......
