Bixby key loose? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Is it just me or does your Bixby key feel rather loose? It's not worse than what I've seen on other phones, but it's noticeably less tight than the power and volume keys

My Bixby key feels loose too

Sweet maybe you can pull it out and throw it in the trash!!! You guys are so lucky!!! ??

Mine feels exactly the same as others. Either remap it or don't use it, don't see a problem.

The problem here is that Samsung has sold us an inferior product.

Yeah, I don't think that's normal. My Bixby button feels like any of the other buttons; high quality and firm.

No wiggle at all? As solid as perhaps, the volume rocker when you try to wiggle it?
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

Yeah they all wiggle a bit. Nothing special about it.
It's so unnoticeable that I can only feel it with my finger, but I barely can see the movement when looking at it.
Like... 1/10 of a milimeter...

I can confirm that the Bixby button "rattles" more than the power and volume buttons. It also doesn't help by the fact that those buttons are so thin in width compared to other phones.

mines wiggles a little bit too. both bixby and power buttons. but my volume buttons are firm.. the two buttons actually has a moving or ticking sound to it when i try to move it a little..

My power and Bixby wobble and wiggle alot... We have 2 S8 plus in our house my buttons feel really loose but the other has only the Bixby button loose... Did this effect your use of the phone? Or did you exchange? I'm usually OCD about new phones that's why I'm being picky about the wiggle... My power button gets pressed hundreds of times a week and want it to last

Nope. I tried out a bunch of other S8s, all had the same small amount of wiggle, so I figured that it was basically futile to find one that was perfectly solid.

Hey thanks for replying.... Just paranoid I guess... Cause my S7edge didn't wiggle like this one... But power button and Bixby wiggle about the same... If they didn't wiggle they would probably get stuck when pushed I guess......

Loose volume keys?

Am I the only one feeling that the volume keys are a little loose? The function fine but make a sound when I shake the phone. If it's just me I'll probably return it.
+1 Same here
Some here, a little loose. My wife's is the same, also. The power button is much tighter.
OK. Seems like replacing the phone won't help. I'll just get use to it I guess.
Mine doesn't make any sound when I shake the phone. If I were you I'd swap it. Rocket had very slight amount of give but I wouldn't classify it as loose.

Volume and power buttons are all tight and make no sound on mine when I shake the phone.
Hmm, my volume button is loose too. Sounds very cheap/janky... especially when the phone vibrates!
Might try a return.
This bothers me most about the phone. Otherwise, it's an awesome device.

Same for me too. No problems whatsoever.
My rocker is loose. Power button is very snug. I have the black case from t mobile on so I don't care though.
I just did an exchange on my vibrant.. the volume key on the one he brought out was extremely loose.. I made him get me another from the back and it felt nice and tight. I guess some are like that.
I just exchanged mine in-store too and got a unit with a much more solid volume button.

Anyone else annoyed with the power button?

Does anyone else's Nexus 4 have a power button that feels "mushy" and doesn't have a pronounced "click" like the volume buttons? It might be the S-Line case that's amplifying the issue but even with the case off, the power button doesn't feel the same as the volume ones. The click is there but it's just not very strong and it feels like something that could be pushed in and stuck there someday...
Use showp1984's Bricked Kernel in the Original Android Development forum. It has a feature called Sweep2Wake where you do not need to use the power button to wake, the phone.
It's truly amazing. Try it out. Make sure you flash the Stock kernel in the thread through fast boot before flashing it or your ROM most likely will not boot

To be honest, compared to the buttons on the iPhone, every android phone I have ever used feel lousy. They are hard to feel for, frequently obstructed, and are not positive by any stretch of the imagination. While this one is better than my Nexus One, I doubt they could have made a worse one than that if they tried.
For a button that will be pressed hundreds, if not thousands of times, it is a fail.
I'm annoyed because of the position, it should be lower IMO.

Well I use the volume buttons to unlock, so functionally it doesn't really affect me but just like to know if this is a standard or defect.
I like the fact its harder to press so I don't accidentally press it. I've found on other phones I press it while watching videos and have to unlock/enter pin/press play multiple times because the button is too sensitive.
My power button is a bit harder to press, not mushy though.. The vol+/- have a crisper button mechanism... It does spring back quickly though, I don't think it'll break.

Those with the S Line TPU case, how does the power button feel?

For me the power button is especially hard to press with this case... It feels different from the volume buttons and to really get a clicking feel, I need to use my fingertips to press it otherwise there's pretty much no response... Is the covering too thick to get appropriate feedback? Anyone else with the S Line case care to comment?
Thanks.

Yeah, power button is a pain to press with the case on. I've taken to using the volume buttons to wake the device and a sleep button in the notification drawer to sleep it. Saying that.. even the volume buttons feel unnecessarily difficult to press..

EDITED : nvm...I just saw your location's in London...might take a while for the case to ship to your location
From most angles it seems really stiff, but if you push it slightly from backwards to forwards, it feels really clicky and not at all hard to press down even for long periods of time.

Agreed, this is only a temp case tho so no worries.
I loved my Cimo S-Line TPU case for my Captivate and Galaxy S 2. It took a couple weeks but eventually the rubber became nice and soft and pliable. I actually preferred the little bit of protection that it gave me from accidentally hitting the power button repeatedly in my pocket.

+1 I couldn't agree more, the case looks nice but my main complains are that the clear version of the case sticks to the back of the phone and makes it look like there is moisture or bubbles. And you have to press the power button firmly.
I just ordered the Poetic Borderline Bumper yesterday, heard some good reviews, can't wait to get it.

I got it a week before its fantastically working ya harder then that of the open but gives better protection i personally feel that its in the best interest to have that hard pressing also avoids unnecessary pressing.

Try ordering the Diztronic TPU Case or the Poetic Borderline Bumper off of eBay.
I always do a tiny mod with all my TPU cases just for this reason. I want my tactility when I press my buttons. I usually have a knife or a razor and make two vertical parallel slits near the left and right border of the power buttons.
It makes the buttons feel much better and has never failed me.
You can also cut a rectangle over the button out entirely - I always do, works like a charm
mine is soft and easy to press. I don't use it anymore because it was just a temp case for me but I didn't have any issues with the buttons. I ordered the one sold by txgadgets who's a US seller.

Power button defect?

Hey guys,
My power button seems to be pushed in...
it's not that pronounced..
Coming from an S2, the buttons seem/feel really pushed in. i can barely feel it.
I've looked at videos and high quality pictures of S4 on review sites, and they seem to be more popped out.
My power button looks/feels strangely pushed in.
Is this a defective unit?
seems like volume buttons are a bit under-pronounced..
how about you guys?

The "click" sound is lower in volume and not as "Crisp" in feeling. (relative to my S2)

Compared to my GS2 Skyrocket if feels a lot softer. My GS4 doesn't have the same resistance and travel distance as my Skyrocket but the SRs button was almost flush with the device so to me the GS4 button feels more pronounced.
My s3 was like that. I opened up the phone, cut and placed a tiny piece of scotch tape behind the button to make it stick out a tiny bit more. Worked good, but when I did this the phone wasnt brand new so its your call. Maybe exchange it at the store?

I can exchange it for a new phone at the AT&T store right?

well, I would certainly try while the phone is new. Tell them your are concerned that if its pushed in this much now, that after using the phone for a year ( or however long) that your worried it will be pushed in even more. Worst can happen is they say no. At least you can compare it to another phone anyhow. I will say mine has been like that since I bought it and it has not affected the operation other than having a case over it, then you have to really push the button hard to get it to work through the case, but that was on a certain case, and doesnt seem to be as hard on my other case.

For the wifi connect and disconnect, could it be the power saving thing that was on the S3? From the dialer try *#0011#, then press the menu softkey and select wifi, then turn off the power save mode. I know this would get rid of the constant connect/reconnect on the S 3. Not sure it works on the S 4.
It happened to me too when i switched my skyrocket to the S3. The S3 power button its kinda small and hidden so maybe just need to get a long with it

Sunk in home button, normal?

Picked up my 32 GS4 yesterday and now I am noticing that the home button is sunk in. It's completely flush with the screen. Doesn't stick out at all. It works completely fine, but makes a really audible clicking noise. Obviously Samsung doesn't manufacture these all the same. I am worried if it will get worse in time. A google search brought many results with the GS3's home button. Apparently some think its normal, some don't. I am really fussy when it comes to QC on flagship phones.
Just wondering if anyone else has a sunk in home button?
its normal.
I don't have one yet, but I just wanted to say that I really wish they would have used a capacitive button instead. I work construction, and dust/sand etc. destroys the physical buttons. Also will miss the search button that I have on gs2 I like pressing and holding it for voice search

Yeah. I have noticed a couple Note 2's home buttons being flat, while others were slightly raised. I don't know if its considered not normal, as it functions just fine.
I do not like the loud audible click the button makes. I might try to swap it towards the end of my 14 days.
EDIT: Ok, looking at it really closely, its not completely flat. Maybe a tad lower than the other phones. I don't know, I would hate to return a phone because I'm too OCD.

The home button functions perfectly fine. Since it doesn't stick out, the tactile feedback isn't that great. May take it to AT&T this week. Haven't decided. I am actually more concerned about my power button. Seems very hard to push and mushy, like its not sticking out as much as it should.
My home button is just BARELY above the rest of the phone, but it feels very responsive and a bit 'clicky'. While it's not raised so much, it at least feels really solid.
However my unlock button seems like it's really sunken in and almost hard to press at times, does anyone else have one like that as well?

Thank god, at least I'm not the only one. This is my second s4, I just brought back my first one from HUGE battery issues. Would lose 15-20% while idle while I was asleep.
Already noticed a huge difference with my new one, except now I've noticed the mushed in unlock button. It's functional, it just feels like it has the possibility of eventually getting stuck somehow...Maybe I'm just being overly attentive and sensitive with the new one.

Neither would mine. Best Buy MIGHT, but it's not very nice to make them keep opening boxes of new products. Not sure if they can still sell them as such afterward.
The unlock button does seem more sunken than it should be. Might swing by the ATT store in a day or two just to check out their display...If it's that bad, i'll bring it back to best buy and see if they're willing to do another exchange . I only have 4 days left on my 15 day window unfortunately.
