Camera lens - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Is it true the outer camera lens is plastic?
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

you mean the cover??! in xperia x yes but but in xc its glass( or whatever it is it's more resistant to scratches) but eventually it will get scratches if you dont find it a protector

Yeah the outer part. The part you can touch on the outside. Strange it's plastic. Seems like would scratch too easy.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
It has been the same with every bumper/case I've used. All my phones that I've used in the past have had scratches due to the protective case. Heck, one of them even left scratches all over the body of my Xperia SL where its very hard to notice scratches I am currently using a TPU case and only after 2 days I found it scratching the chorme bexzel. The irony is that we have to use some or the other case just to make sure that the glass doesnt shatter when the phone falls down at the cost of some scratches on the bezel. Any suggestion to avoid this would be appreciated.

Want phone naked

So I'm in a delimia, I really want my gs4 naked because I have no deductible with best buy insurance, but my problem is I don't want the camera scratched when laid down flat, any suggestions?

if you have a steady hand and a girlfriend, or a girlfriend with a steady hand, a layer of clear coat nail polish would do it, and it eventually cracks/peels off or you can slide it off sideways with your finger. Use a can of compressed air a few inches away to blow it dry and keep the layer super thin.
ive fixed scratches on SLR lenses that way, then wiped excess off and polished with microfiber cloths and buffed. same with screen scratches on gorilla glass on my old Atrix.

I agree with this. If you manage to apply bubble-free, the image quality should not be affected.
Alternatively, go completely naked, and when it gets scratched beyond acceptable, replace the camera module, they are $30-40 on ebay
The camera has a film on it out of the box unless you have removed it but it almost un noticeable and really hard to remove.

right on the lens; you can take it off or thin it and let it redry with nail polish remover, so you can fix it over and over and never damage the glass.

Chrome bezel = crap

Anyone else have scratches on the chrome bezel? I've owned 3 nexus 4s and can't seem to keep the bezel from getting scratches. My screen and everything else is mint but the bezel might as well be made of whatever it is this the most scratch prone material on earth.

Have you tried getting a bumper case of a regular case? The bezel is not scratch proof and that's why you keep getting it scratched.

The scratches actually all happened with the bumper on. I take care of my phone really well so I'm pretty sure dust got in between the bumper and phone and scratched it. It's more of a micro scuff than anything but I can still see it when I put it under a magnifying glass in a well lit room. Trust me you've got them too.

The problem is the bezel is plastic, not actually any type of metal. Google really should have made the bezel metal and it would have really improved the phones feel and quality. I have a diztronic case and even though I've had it on the whole time there are still scratches on the bezel, just a bunch short, faint ones. The case feels quite sharp on the inner edge and I think its what is actually scratching my bezel.

You can't powder coat plastic. One, it is non-conductive, and two, it will melt in the curing process even if you could somehow get the material to stick. And the vacu-formed chrome will make it tough to paint.
One thing you could do is to put a satin finish on it with a little wet sanding with 400-800 grit sandpaper, being careful not to sand through the chrome. I just keep the OEM bumper on it and I don't see it.

Are you on crack!? (c;
The HTC has a polished "bevel" machined into the top edges of the aluminum.
The Nexus 4 has a plastic "bezel" trim piece, that is vacu-form plated like the chrome pieces of a plastic model car kit.

Yeah... iPhone users had the same complaints. Aluminum is fairly soft so some folks noticed scratches on the beveled edges. But I would think you'd need to pocket your phone with keys or loose change for that to happen.

Sapphire glass camera lens?

I thought this thing was supposed to have a glass camera lens? I was super excited about that when I got the phone because all of my past phones ended up getting scratched camera lenses. Turns out that this lens now has micro scratches just like all the rest. It doesn't have any coating or plastic on it does it? It feels like plastic when I checked to see if it had a lens cover... I'm pretty disappointed with this.

Sure, it you handle of lot of diamonds. Sapphire is 9 hardness on the mohs scale. I have a watch with a sapphire crystal and its still as shiny as the day I got it, 6 years later.
U expect the same sapphire quality as ur watch?

I know it's not "unscratchable" but having micro scratching after day 3 is pretty disappointing. I wonder if there is a coating similar to what's on the gorilla glass?

Sapphire will scratch. Just not as bad as glass.
Scratch free here, but my case keeps the lens lifted off surfaces, not sure if that is a big factor or not.
Using a case I don't see how you could scratch it up, even when I wear a nice watch with sapphire I am careful not to bang into things. Heck I'm always careful not to bump into stuff and hurt myself lol. Seriously tho I know some folks like to go naked with their phones and appreciate the form factor but one downside is its going to get scuffed up. I had a Rado watch once and you couldn't scratch that ceramic, that would be a good material to make a phone shell from.

I'd be surprised if you scratch it if you're even casually nice to your phone. Can't say the same for glass, even special glasses. It'll shatter, but you have to really abuse sapphire to scratch it.
So how do these scratches on the lens affect picture quality?
This is probably obvious but, the phone came with a little plastic disk over the lens. You did peel it off...??

Mine is Verizon, but the disk over the lense was a bugger to get off. I'd think they'd all come with it from the factory. IDK...
Micro scratches do not effect image quality. Unless the scratch is deep enough to refract light, then it doesn't matter.
But if you are really worried about it (ocd) then you can sometimes buff out a scratched lens by using a purified water and alcohol mixture. Dip a microfiber cloth into the solution and buff out lens... then use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe clean.

Xperia Z1s Flash Photography washing out (T-Mobile)

Hello All,
I just wanted to make everyone aware of something on my Z1s (Tmobile) that has been bothering me. When taking flash photography I was getting a wash out on the right of the pictures. At first I thought it was the camera but I experimented and realized that this would only happen when using my case (Tech-21 Impact Tactical Shell) purchased from T-mobile. Upon closer inspection by using the flashlight feature of the phone, I realized that the tiny edge of the case around the flash is causing the reflection. You would figure that a black case would not reflect light but it does. I rubbed the small little area with a lead pencil and it improved. So I will try to coat it with some other Flat Black paint and see what works better.
I guess since the flash is so close to the lens this can happen with other cases as well depending how big the hole around the flash is. Hopefully this will help others out.
Peace !
Walt
Happens with almost every case with a cutout for the camera. I've tried almost all of them on my Z1, haha. Expensive is no guarantee. I've had €45 cases that do this (noreve, roxfit, krusel, zenus) and all the way down. Best I found was a £2.99 thin plastic one.
If it ever comes, I have an aluminium bumper frame on order from China.
I know you have a z1s, but check the Z1 accessories forum, case discussions in there.
