Facebook Notification Issue - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Not sure what happened, but I was getting notifications from Facebook just fine a few days ago. Now, I get the odd one here and there, but nothing for the most part. I checked my account and settings on both the S7 Edge as well as on Facebook itself and everything is the same. I changed nothing and all notifications are set to on. Like I said, I seem to get one occasionally.
Whenever I unlock my S7 Edge, I can see the badge there for a new notification on the Facebook icon, but I didn't get any notification sound or pop up notification. My wife has the exact same phone, exact same settings and exact same version of Facebook and she is and always has been getting notifications.
Anyone else have this issue? Seems like it is something being done in the background to the app.

No one else huh? Good times...
Does anyone know of a good Facebook alternative with realtime notifications? Several I have tried poll for notifications every xx minutes, but nothing in realtime. Not sure that's even possible, but thought I would ask if anyone knows of one.

Hmmmm, not a single comment huh? So no one knows? I wiped my device tonight and tried to start over. STILL, no notifications from Facebook. Nothing is OFF when it comes to notifications. Nothing is off on the account on Facebook. I checked the version number. It's the exact same of my wife's S7 Edge. Nothing is different. Certainly wiping the phone should have fixed this???
Once thing I noticed, when I check notifications on her phone in Facebook, she has the sound set to the classic Facebook Pop. Also, when I check the sound, her theme pops up and shows the list of sounds as part of the theme. When I check sounds on my device (after wiping), Facebook Pop is not there. Only a sound called Facebook. It is not the same sound. And, the theme I have loaded does not show up when the list of sounds is popped up to choose from. I loaded the same theme she has and again, the theme does not take over the list of sounds on the pop up. It is the default Facebook pop up. It's the same version of Facebook. The phone has been wiped. Why does the sound Facebook Pop (which she did not side load - she has never loaded anything on her phone like that - so Facebook installed it) appear on her phone but not mine? Why does the theme show the list of sounds when you choose a notification sound in her Facebook app, but not on mine (even the same theme)?? Anyone? This is very frustrating.

So bringing back this thread, even though no one responded previously. This is a bizarre issue that continues to this day, even after a factory reset.
So here are some screens. This is the same Galaxy S7 Edge. Same theme. Same version of Facebook. The last two screens you can see she has the themed selection for notifications. I have the default Facebook white dialog. This makes no sense.

As you can see, same phone, same theme, same version of Facebook. Yet she has a notification that is themed when selecting notification sound in the Facebook app under app settings. I have the default Facebook selection dialog. Why??? Same everything. This makes no sense and what is completely frustrating about Android.

so, if you tried factory reset, clear cache of that app, remove app from battery saving options, allow that app in settings-notifications, changing notification sound, check synchronization under settings-accounts-facebook, etc, then just maybe try to find problem in your facebook account (on desktop and mobile), under all that notification options...
you are using default launcher? and no apps like greenify or similar?

try giving the app some permissions? the only ones you have given it is location
not saying it will fix it but worth a try
and like the other guy said maybe its something to do with your actual facebook settings (your account settings) have a look on the full version of Facebook... this is not a problem with your phone bro

Checked all Facebook account settings on the desktop. I have ensured they are exactly the same as my wife who gets notifications, still has the default Facebook Pop sound (as you can see from my notification dialog, the sound is called just Facebook and is different) and is the one who has the themed pop up to choose the sound.
I am using fully stock, default launcher (as we are using the same theme from the Samsung theme store) and no apps like Greenify. After I did a factory reset, I setup the phone exactly like her phone is setup (I did her phone as well). This is a freakin' mystery. I still don't get all notifications (I occasionally get one here and there) and the pop up dialog to choose the notification sound as you can see is not themed like hers and the default Facebook Pop sound is gone. I downloaded the pop sound and placed it in the Notifications folder, but Facebook will not display it as an option to choose. It did one time and now it won't do it any longer.
I just don't understand why these things are different. Same phone, same setup exactly, same OS version, same updates, same Facebook version, same theme, same everything.

It hasn't asked for permissions. The only thing it asked me for was location and I granted it. If this is not a problem with the phone, then what? Again, everything is identical software wise.

i have a galaxy s7 with tmobile, android 7 and i am missing the pop sound all together. instead it has a tong/dong sound but no pop

--Introduce Your Milestone 2--

Dear Milestone 2 community,
I noticed that we're a rather lazy community. Barely sharing experiences, eagerly waiting for the first ROM to come out. Maybe it is due to our community is not yet the biggest but I still think we are privileged with our fine device.
Coming from the Xperia X1, we had a thread where we'd post our homescreen custimization. The result was new ideas and lots of eye candy. I hope you play along in this thread and give a fine description (WITH SCREENSHOTS) what your home screen looks like.
FYI: Snapping screenshots is not the easiest thing on a android. However - when you rooted your phone (what I assume have most of us done) you search the market for the app called "Shoot Me" and you just gotta shake your phone to have it copied in a folder on your SD Card etc.
Here I go:

Description: Screenshot is a modified Xperia X1 Wallpaper. Someone ove at the X1 forums made it. Starting the Preview 1 on the left, I have a widget to cover my data amount and a notebook for some notes. Going right I have a big widget that keeps me up to date with missed calls, sms and emails. It's called Executive Assistant. Going right there I have a picture frame (somethign called big picture or so...), weather on dirty paper and a toggle widget.
Preview 2: Some of my fav apps sorted on the left. Going right you see my favourite contacts in animated circles. The right picture shows me simple lockscreen with some snow flakes falling forcasting my local weather (animated as well...). Shoot Me is not so good in capturing animated things...anyway, it serves our purpose...
Hope you like the idea of the thread!
What app did you use to change the lockscreen?
I'm still using the stock one...
Sent from my Brazilian Milestone 2 using XDA App
Edit (on PC): Now adding my screenshots......can't post links so: hxxp
I use ADW Launcher with a mix of two themes: Black Glass (some icons) and BuuF (wallpaper). Which is one option to Blur Homescreen.
Screen 1: Internet tethering apps EasyTether (for Ubuntu) and PdaNet (for Windows), 3G Watchdog widget, Gesture Search and Alarm Clock Plus (I use DockAwake to make it default).
Screen 2: I keep all my toggles in one page.
Basic Toggles on the top.
Extended Controls Toggles: Air Plane Mode, USB and Led Flashlight
DCSwitch: the best app to enable/disable 3G data connection.
Volume Ace Pro: Control all kinds of sound your phone makes. And profiles on Pro version.
Root Explorer: Explore all your filesystem
Market Enabler: For not american phones, access to US Android Market
Screen 3 (default) : Some stock apps.
Fring: Multiple accounts messenger like Ebbudy.
AppBrain: Reinstalled all my apps after messing up with Milestone Overclock app
Overclock: 1.25GHz @ 62 vsel, by the way wich config do you use?
Screen Filter: Configs the screen light in a better way.
Atlantida: Regional radio station app
Screen 4 : My music players, XDA, Dropbox, Calculator, Messages, Titanium Backup and Metal Detector (Uses the magnetic sensor, that is used to open the dock station app too)
Screen 5 : Rarely used apps
Led Disco and Led Tester are nice to play with the RGB notification led
Rom Manager: I was able to install Apex Rom 1.3.1 for Droid 2 without problems, but with no cellphone connection since models have a different antenna. I have a nandroid of it.
ConnectBot: use to connect via SSH to my iPod 3G.
Well that's it. Uff...
Edit: added images, are they too big? I don't know how make them smaller...
Yours looks great. I am still waiting for a root method to be available for my phone and i can join the modding fun.
@dangpzanco
The lockscreen is called "WidgetLocker" but it cost the one or other dollar.

No, Temp doesn't work either. I don't want to jack this thread though, I posted in the "Root" thread.
I'm new with Milestone 2 and fighting with the blur.
When i finish choosing my launcher, remove the blur i'll post my shots too!
Thank You dangpzanco. I hope you don't mind - I put up your screens so its easily accessible for everyone.
I have not over or underclocked my cpu yet. I'd probably rather downclock it to save battery. But I prefer to leave it alone, haha. Some questions: what is fring for, what app brain (like backing up with Titanium Backup?). MarketEnable seems like a nice things - are there plenty more apps then? And what is Dropbox for? Moreover you seem to use a lot of player

Fring: login to MSN, GTalk, Yahoo, ICQ, AIM. All unified. It was quite famous on Nokia S60 Symbian phones, I had a Nokia E51
AppBrain: Manage all your apps (update, install, unninstall, regional/custom search, BACKUP online but only the list not the apk)
Titanium Backup: local backup, freeze system apps to semi-deblur (pro version)....
MarketEnabler: more apps than brazilian app store.
Dropbox: 2Gb free online storage, I use to transfer apps from pc to phone.
Music Players: I was trying to find a FLAC Player for my Beatles collection, only the AMPlayer does it, but it's not a good one.
PS: overclock is safe, just don't forget to uncheck the "autoload on boot" when testing clocks. If you don't, phone will bootloop. In theory you just have to take the sd card out (find out this after reflashing old nandroid).

Hello,
I'm a new user of android and looking forwards to introducing my milestone 2, only just rooted it today, so will start customising soon, will probably try titanium backup to freeze what I can of blur and widgetlocker looks interesting, is the live wallpaper lock screen (can't think of any other way to describe it) integral to widgetlocker?
Thanks for your help.
P.S. tried to post the steps I took to root my phone using z4root but my post count is too low!

What App do you have in the middle picture of preview 2. The round contacts really looks nice!
I using:
ADW Launcher EX
ADW Theme Digital Soul
simi Clock
Switch Pro widgets
and
Flickie Wallpappers
@BladeMaestor
The "live lock screen" is my normal "WidgetLocker" lockscreen. Moreover I have this program called "Weather & Toggle" and there is an additional app to get animated forecasts. When it snows, snow flakes come down the lockscreen, when the sun is shining, a sunbeam will welcome you back to your device.
@Blo234
It's called "Animated Widget Contact Launch". I recommend you to try it out. It's really cool.
But folks, how about posting some screenshots of your devices? Would really look forward to see your homescreens and so on!

No, this simple jpg from Flickie Wallpapers.
Was using Milestone, just switch to Milestone 2
Using ShadowMOD 2.3 rom on MS, now switching back to 2.2 XD
But I have some problem with my MS2
I cannot root it
tried z4root and universal androot, both failed, already followed the steps and checked usb debugging, z4root simply freeze my phone at the first time, and keep crashing after reboot
Is there any possible way to capture screen without root and connecting to computer?
digital camera =)
First time I tried z4root froze on my phone as well. But after reboot it worked. How many times did you try it. But don't brick your phone!

[MM]List of changes in Marshmallow update

Here is a list of changes that have been included in the 30B Marshmallow update for our D855's!
Battery optimization
Battery optimization has been added to reduce battery consumption. The battery will now be optimized automatically when your phone or apps are not in use for a certain period of time. Battery optimization will stop when you use your phone or apps again.
Note: Alarms may not sound, and notifications from apps that are not updated to the latest OS version may not be received during battery optimization. To ensure notifications are received from certain apps, go to Settings > General > Battery & power saving > Battery usage > Ignore optimizations.
Knock Code Settings
Knock Code is to be updated to offer a better experience for the latest OS. You must now have at least 6 taps and use 3 different quarters in your knock code. To unlock the screen, the knock code for the current user can only be used.
Marshmallow:
App Permissions
App permissions have been changed. You can allow or deny permissions for an app to access certain features from other apps. After you install an app and open it, pop-ups may show and you may be asked to give permissions to an app for certain features. You must give permissions to use the app. You can decide whether or not to give permissions. Select Don't ask again to not be asked twice when you decide not to give permissions. You can change these permissions later in Settings > General > Apps > Permissions.
Direct Share
Direct Share has been added. Before, you chose an app to share to, and then a person. Now, frequently shared combinations of apps and people will be recommended. When you select Share via, you can receive up to 8 recommendations for which app and contact to share with.
Silent Mode
Silent mode has been added to the sound profile. You can silence the phone in the notification panel or in the volume panel that shows when you press the Volume keys. You can also silence the phone in Settings > Sound & notification. Before, you had to use Interruptions to silence the phone. Now, it can be done with just one or two taps.
Interruptions has been renamed to Do not disturb.
With this, you can schedule downtimes to not be disturbed by notifications from some or all apps. Alarms will sound or vibrate when Do not disturb is set to Priority only. Alarms will be silenced when Do not disturb is set to Total silence.
LG UX Upgrade
Meet the new LG UX. The design of items such as app icons and the font style have been changed. The Lock screen shortcut must be reset after the software upgrade. Text Link has been removed. There are also various new app features.
Auto-Brightness
Auto-brightness has been changed. The screen will be brighter when you are in a bright place and darker when you are in dark place. The brightness slider can now be seen adjusting automatically depending on the ambient light when you use Auto-brightness.
Allow Peeking
Allow peeking has been added to Settings so that you can now see notifications at the top of the screen and have none of them block the screen. You can allow peeking in Settings > General > Apps > (Select installed apps)
Google Settings
You can manage Google apps and services more easily. Google settings app is now in Settings > General > Google.
Memory Settings
Memory settings have been added to Settings > General > Memory to be easily accessible. You can now see the hourly memory usage per app.
Apps settings
The screen for Apps settings has been simplified. Before, there were tabs for disabled apps, running apps, apps on the SD card, and downloaded apps. Now, you can see all the apps in a simple screen. You can include or exclude the system apps through the menu in the top right corner of this screen.
QMemo+ renamed with Slice added
QMemo+ in notification panel has been renamed to Capture+. Also, Slice has been added to Capture+. You can crop your memos in four different ways.
QMemo+ features improved
QMemo+ features have been improved to give you more control over your memos. You can do more than just write. Lasso a part of your memo to move, delete, or rotate it. Drag to-do items to rearrange them. Record your voice while you write or draw at the same time. You also have more control over your memos. Import or export your memos in the PDF format. Lock your memos with Content lock.
Interval shot added
Interval shot has been added. Before, you take a shot by gesture. Now, you can take 4 selfies in a row with the front camera, touch and hold Shutter button or make a fist twice.
Ringtone ID added
Ringtone ID has been added. You can hear incoming calls with ringtones composed automatically from their phone number. Go to the Sound settings and select who to compose ringtones for. In Contacts, you can preview the ringtone ID of any contact. For numbers with no ringtone ID, the ringtone in use will sound.
Event pocket added
Event pocket has been added. You can easily add events to your calendar. Drag images, text, memos, tasks, and locations from Event pocket onto your calendar. You can even add items from Facebook.
Floating button added
A floating button has been added to apps such as Email, Messaging, and Calendar. You can tap the floating button located at the bottom of an app to use the main feature of the app. The floating button can also be moved to wherever you want.

dude we already have v30B and that's stock LG firmware with UX4.0 and marshmallow (same as LG G4) for our g3.
Better than so much Lollipop.. smoother and less lag
Here's a video showing all the new features brought to the G3 with this android marshmallow update.
Here is a list of new features on LG G3's stock android 6.0 marshmallow rom. Rom version is v30B Global.
Features list (non exhaustible):
- Battery optimization
- Lockscreen hula hoop
- Knock Code Settings
- App Permission
- Direct Share
- Silent Mode
- Interruptions has been renamed to Do not disturb.
- LG UX Upgrade
- Auto-Brightness
- Allow Peeking
- Google Settings
- Memory Settings
- Apps settings
- QMemo+ renamed with Slice added
- Camera
- Ringtone ID added
- Event pocket added
- Power menu
- Lock screen notifs
@johnnzey maybe you can add this to OP I think it will help a lot of people
Not the best option @docksid3, but what i did was restored my backup of previous LP ROM, copied my SIM contacts to my google account then went back and reflashed MM, SIM contacts are now showing as part of my google contacts.
Not the perfect solution but at least they are there in MM now.
Cheers
---------- Post added at 06:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:11 PM ----------
Edit: Reflashed stock 30B using LG Flash Tool, normal flash means I have now lost root but sim contacts now show properly.
Time to go back to rooted so must be something to do with the repacked boot or root that is stoppng them from showing as sim contacts.
Be aware. My phone got almost SOD. Woked up after a while. I was browsing Facebook and screen after screen got dark I wasn't able to woke it up almost 10min. I was ready to pull out battery, but after desperate power button press it woked up. Another annoying thing is WiFi disconnect. I'm using Whatsapp on web. A lot I see I'm unable to connect to My phone.
Edit: Potato e chip to LG for performance boost. I haven't seen so fast ROM. Performance is great.

Heads up motivations (peek) removal

Love the device but I can't seem to find a way to disable heads up notifications! The system UI tuner cannot be activated by holding the gear icon on the T-Mobile V20. Any help ?
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I'm looking for the same answer, I'd prefer a bit more granular control of my notifications as the options available aren't enough. All I'd want to do is hide the "peek" option.
Seems like you have to go to the app specifically and tap notification from there you can hide them for that app.

In the battery section in settings there's a toggle

None of these settings are just for peek, you'd need access to the System UI Tuner for a slightly more granular adjustment. I would still want to be notified with a sound/vibration, I'd just want to hide peek which gets in the way when I'm doing other things on the phone.

Bumping because I am looking for the capability to do the same thing. For some reason they (ATT and/or LG) have blocked the System UI tuner which allows for blocking peeking notifications while keeping the sound and vibrations. Android not having a simple option to globally disable peeking is greatly annoying.
If there is no way to enable the System UI tuner is there another way to disable peeking notifications on the LG V20 while still allowing vibration/noise? Silent notifications are almost as useless as peeking/heads up notifications.
LG has. There has never to my knowledge has there been a LG device that has had it since it was introduced.

System UI Tuner is a special option, that has to be enabled (akin to Developer Options), added to Android M and above so barely any phones have it. Some carriers and manufacturers have disabled it on those that do, such as the V20.
Regardless of the System UI tuner there should be some other way on the LG V20 to disable peeking per app or globally. We are just trying to find a way on the LG V20 without also having to silence sound/vibration. There also does not seem to be an app to take care of the issue since those like HeadsOff are no longer compatible.

All you are able to do is what was linked above in the screenshot.
-Block (No notifications)
-Show silently (no sound, vibrate, or peek)
-Lock screen notifications (all, sensitive, none)
-Priority (yes/no)
Am looking for this too it's driving me nuts anyone? It was present on galaxy note 7
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers mobile app
add me to the list
this is an unbelievable situation, its driving me crazy.. i did lots of experiments and researches, still no solution, appearantly its an app based and not a general thing, i dont know why, apps and Andriod N.. Whatsapp in my case will be the exmaple
My conclusion is based on the below tests and readings:
- All my whatsapp settings are set to vibrate and/or sound, but no pop up
- Am using Novo launcher, so i thought the launcher is the problem, however, tried the default one, but still pops up
- surprisingly, Textra app, Telegram app, some other calendar apps, doesn't show a pop up peek if u disabled it from the app itself. keeping the sound and vibrate on as wanted.
- I sent to whatsapp an email, but the email they replied with was useless and didnt address the problem itself
- i tried few apps at the play store, but all of them didnt work, as non is built for Andriod N
- the only way is what mentioned in this thread, where you will block the notification alert and show it silently, and thats not what we want.
- Yes the UI Tuner is not activated and cant be activated in this device
The End result, its a problem in these specific apps with Andriod N, and its the problem from LG not activating the UI Tuner, if only there is a way to communicate with LG and force them to solve this problem.
Glad to hear others thoughts..
Dear all,
I can confirm that i was able to block the headsup using adb commands. Refer and search through the forums here at xda, few threads explained it.. Easy in 30 min done
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
You're welcome.
You should still get the ticker-like notification in the second screen.
thanks it works

Yes am still getting the ticker and thats a very useful feature in LGv20, i dont mind that as long as the headsup is disabled.
Ok now how do we get the notification to show longer in the second screen? Most my apps time out in about 2 seconds with the exception of the stock messaging app, and bluemail (both show for approx 5 seconds)...

XT1572 doesn't show any "new" email, message nor call notification on desktop icons

XT1572 doesn't show any "new" email, message nor call notification on desktop icons
My brand new XT1572, upgraded to 6.0.1 doesn't display any 'Unread message' or 'Missed call' signs on home screen ikons. My LG G4 displays an orange circle with number of unread messages for most of communication apps (email, facebook, linkedin, Whatsapp, Messenger, Text messages, Phone call). In Moto X Style it doesn't work for all apps. Is this normal for this device??? I hope not. I can't imagine that. Does anyone know how to switch it on?

On the top of that it doesn't synchronize all the contacts from corporate office 365 account, private outlook.com account, nor it synchronizes people photos from FB. I don't know what is going on here. This basically makes my phone useless crap. Is there any way to solve it? I've tried 4 different email apps. Doesn't help so far.
my goodness! I thought LG G4 software is bad. But compared to moto it's a sky rocket. I can't believe how bad moto is! I'm struggling third day to have some basic stuff, like contacts sync or know when someone called me, without digging into notification list. This things should work out of the box. My second Android after WP and second mistake. Is there any Android phone that actually works? Would Samsung do that?
I did some workarounds, like sync.me, also tried out Nine email client. The contacts from Hotmail showed up finally, but now all the contact details are exploded in separate entries! After 3 days still part of LinkedIN contacts are not synchronized. Whats more something constantly switches off Linkedin synchronization in accounts.
Regarding "New/Unread email" or "missed phone call" on home screen I'm getting hopeless. it's a toy not a smartphone!
Shall I try 3rd time with Samsung or just give up and pick bloody iPhone?
What you are experiencing is not normal, but it has been been seen following an OTA upgrade on multiple Moto devices...
After you received the update to 6.0.1 did you do a factory reset? That will likely fix your issue.

I've done as advised. No change. I checked also on Moto G3 of my son (also 6.0.1) - it doesn't show notifications either. It looks like a "feature" (a nasty design fault) rather then a bug! Who does it? Motorola! Respected phone manufacturer. No wonder they got insolvent.
I'll try out S7 - maybe these guys understand how people use phones. The secret of Iphone success is revealed - it's not because Iphone is so great. It's competition which is so weak.
I've got to say Sync.me does pretty decent job.
for the time being moving SIM card back to LG G4. Compared to Moto it's not such a bad device

Hmm... Both my MXPE and G3 are on 6.0 and no notification issues. I remember a thread on this with a solution but can't find it for the life of me, thought it was Android Central but ???

Do you mean here notifications that you pull down from the top of the screen or notifications drawn on top of the App icons (home screen icons or shortcuts that you use to start an App) that show number of unread messages or number of missed calls?

I will referring to pull down notifications... Or do you mean the draw over notifications? If so, you need to give apps that permission explicitly, go to Settings - Apps and click the setup cog, then under Advanced tap "Draw over other apps", find the app in question and give it the permission.

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing. I would send you a screen shot, but I'm rookie here and have no permission to send URLs.
All the Apps have 'Draw over other apps' = "Yes", so this shouldn't be a problem.
I mean here, for instance WhatsApp icon on the home screen will be flagged with a little circle in it's corner, if there are any new messages received, that I haven't read yet. There will be a number inside this circle, telling me how many unread messages are there.
I thought it's an obvious function. But I may be wrong. It was standard thing in Windows Phone. It's on my LG G4, I'm pretty sure Samsung does it as well. Do you have it on your Moto?

Ah... I understand, an unread count... That is not a standard Android feature, some custom roms will do it but it's a custom implementation by the oem on LG, I'm not sure Sammies do it either.
There are some third party implementations, such as Nova Launcher Prime with the Tesla Unread plug in that can give you similar results, but they place it on the desktop icon (like my Gmail shown below), but this is not an implementation of standard/pure Android.

Are you able to use Edge Lightning for ALL installed apps?

Hello everybody, I'm struggling with this problem from the day I bought my S8. The fact is: how the hell are you getting Edge Lightning works with ALL apps while screen is off? Everything is set fine in the edge lightning menu, I've tried several times, but Edge Nofitications work only while screen is ON. Also tried with Always On display, nothing. With screen off, nothing. I'm going mad since I find several users with this setting working great. Anyway can help? Thanks!
EDIT: with screen off it only works with the stock Samsung SMS app. Any other app doesn't work at all
It's never worked right for me even with stock apps. Oreo doesn't seem to fix anything even though they added new styles for it.
Same here.. but it's really incredible that some people got it fully working out of the box and some others got it broken and were never able to get it working..
No one gets it out of the box for all apps. The problem with edge lighting is that it works for apps that can turn on the screen when a notification is received (viber, messages). Whatsapp can only trigger edge lighting if U turn pop-up messages on.
So - samsung made a great app once again with VERY bad implementation. They should have let us to set edge lighting to glow instead notification light. Just to give us a pulse of light every few seconds. That would be an amazing feature!
I love edge lighting and hate samsung for crippling a great feature once again.
no, just few apps work

Yes I found that on the internet, also from a discussion on the official Samsung forum. It's really frustrating, that would have been a killer feature to me. I think they'll never solve this problem since it's about a year and two OS versions in which this feature is completely broken, Nougat and Oreo. What a shame
Samsung did not cripple any features, I found that when notifications for apps aren't set to important, edge lighting does not work for those notifications... check it out and you'll see the difference... peace ✌?

How can i do that?
With the Notification channel in Andriod O, you can only change application importance or priority level of they are optimized for it....not a lot of applications are optimized for notification channels, that why edge lightening doesn't work with certain applications....
Go to application, select the app and select notification and you'll know whether or not it has notification channels...

That simply doesn't work.. Tried with WhatsApp, it has notification channels I think, since it lets you configure every type of notification like single message, grup message etc.. and the notifications are already set with the highest priority.. But Edge Lightning doesn't work at all with screen off.
That seems really strange though... did you set your edge lightening setting to always? Try setting it to always and test WhatsApp with the screen off, because it does work for me...

Already did that.. It doesn't work at all, only with screen on
You have to activate whats app pop up it s works
Yes but that doesn't solve the problem since as soon as you unlock the screen you have the annoying popup to close. And, it isn't the way it's meant to be since it should work without workarounds with every app since there's built-in support in the edge lightning options.
Hello. I've got solution. This app translates old style notifications to new style notifications so all the apps have edge notifications enabled. You can customize color for any application and turn on/off edge notifications. Very good application, not like the others, which creates fakes color effects around display. It even works on AOD display, which is perfect. Ofc it has few bugs, like if you enable notification and scroll up than back, it shows like it didn't save your settings, but it did. Just set all your apps, turn off app and on and you can see, that it remembered all your settings. I've reported that bug, so I hope it get fixed. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.movisoft.edgelighting&rdid=com.movi soft.edgelighting

hi,
i use galaxy s9, however the edge lightning issue is the same for all new galaxy phones. i was told to submit a report via the samsung members app, still waiting for the answer.
the advertised app from the play store did work really well for some time. now however, it simply doesn't (i'm after the Pie upgrade). such a shame, cause the notification style is why i bought this phone, and it doesn't work as advertised.
The problem with edge lighting is that it needs apps to turn on the screen, and they rarely have that function since most android phones have notification lights instead of turning on the screen. For example, viber has the option to turn on the screen, hence the edge lighting works well with viber when the screen is turned off. Samsung messages do this as well. Other apps just turn on edge lighting when the screen is already on.
Samsung didn't think much about the functionality of the edge lighting feature if you ask me. Turned out to be a gimmick instead of a good feature, which sucks, because many people love it.
Yeah, I got it working through this app. There is a caviat, one color shines for all apps. That means there's no color change depending on the app that pushed a notification
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.movisoft.edgelighting
We really need to find a workaround for pie. I heard the app (edge lighting) isn't working on pie sadly
