Galaxy S8 Call interruptions - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I bought a new S8 in Greece, and in the first two 24 hours I had it, my interlocutors on the phone were complaining that during our call sometimes they could not hear me.
I went back to the store and the employee told me that he was aware of the problem (interruptions during calls) and that this even happened in his own S8. He said there was an issue because the device was from another EU country (mine was from Italy) and when it makes the OTA update something is happening. So they sent it to Samsung and after 1 week I got it back. They have made a ROM update.
I'm starting to setup it again, and in the beginning I am receiving a message that a SIM change was detected and I had the option of either continuing or resetting in the factory settings. I chose the 2nd (probably this was a mistake - I'm not sure if I actually "canceled" the update made by Samsung).
The point is that the problem has remained. I went back to the shop and they suggested to fully refund me, which I accepted.
I go to another shop and buy a new S8 device. I put SIM while being on the store, again the same problem! We test the employee's SIM, and it seems that in the call I have made, it worked ok.
So I believed it was my SIM that had a problem. I replace it, the problem continues. I am choosing a fixed type of network (eg 2G) and not automatic switching (3G / 4G etc) and the problem is somehow better, although again the interlocutors complain to me that they lose me while we speak.
I'm calling to an Authorized Samsung Service. They tell me they know the issue and that there has been a formal instruction from Samsung which says that a specific version of ROM needs to be installed to solve it.
Has this problem happened to anyone else?

Well in Cyprus we had the same issue with call interruption but all seemed fixed on July`s update. Call was interrupted no voice or sound could get through the phone and a restart was nessescary to solve the issue. Is the phone updated to the latest firmware?

Everytime I reproduced the problem wifi signal was the issue. So maybe that wifi hd call was or is the issue. Could be wrong though about your issue

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes the phone is updated to the latest firmware. It seems to me that it's not exactly the same problem since although during voice calls the others tell me that they hear me with some interruptions, after the call the device operates normally (all sounds) and there is no need to restart...
I don't also think it is related somehow with the WiFi and in my device there was no option at all to enable wifi HD call...

[Q] 4.2.2 OTA update broke my phone!!!!

Well I think I am the first victim of the new 4.2.2 update killing the nexus 4. Let me explain; so I have the nexus 4 that I purchased last year from a T-Mobile store, got it on a prepaid plan, never had issues with it, never flashed it, rooted, nothing, well yesterday I received the new update (OTA) and I installed it with no issues, when it rebooted I noticed I no longer had reception bars, thought that was odd so I went into wireless and networks and network operators and chose to automatically search for network, no lick, kept getting error "error while searching for network" I rebooted and still no service, I took out the Sim card cleaned it popped it right back in and still no service, I decided to go into T-Mobile store purchase a new Sim card, but no luck, I did a factory reset in the store and still nothing, the rep put my new Sim card in his nexus 4 and was able to get the Sim card working and even made a call and it was my number for sure..... the rep was nice enough to add insurance on the spot (since I didn't have it) and was able to order me a new nexus 4 which I will get in a couple of days......but this is still bothering me, how the F*%#** did the new update break my phone? well I'm stubborn so this morning I called T-Mobile and had the Sim card reactivated so I can spend my 3 day weekend trying to make this work! Lol oh I forgot to mention that the T-Mobile store was able to give me a loner phone in the meantime while i wait for the new nexus, the loner phone is a flip phone piece of crap Lol
so any ideas what happened to my nexus 4 with the new updates?
Not sure, but the same thing has happened to mine.
I got the OTA last night, it installed ok, but then no bars of signal. Trying to manually or automatically choose a network doesn't work, gives an error. I was also unable to get in to settings - security (it would force close every time I tried to access it).
I decided to reflash the whole 4.2.2 in case the OTA was the problem, this has fixed the problem getting in to the security settings menu but hasn't made any difference to the total lack of mobile network (and there is no setting for SIM locking in there).
Anyone have any ideas on what's happening and how to fix it?
I'm with EE (Orange UK), was on stock but unlocked and rooted. I had a SIM PIN lock before the OTA, but since that I haven't been prompted for it and my phone is behaving as if there was no SIM installed.: :crying:
Weird... Though I'm with AT&T and I updated. Seems fine to me.

yeah same here, brand new activated SIM in there but the phone doesn't read it, someone over at Google+ nexus community said that if the IMEI is blank or in my case it says "unknown" in the settings under phone status then its toast! I keep getting suggestions to flash this and that but I have to return this phone back to T-Mobile since they are sending me a new one and I don't want to do anymore damage to the phone and have them say I messed it up...
Not good - Mine is showing "unknown" as the IMEI. Also, the baseband version in About Phone is showing as Unknown (although on the fastboot screen it lists it as the latest .48 version)

Have reflashed the complete 4.2.2 stock again but no luck, and did a factory reset from within Android (but haven't tried it from recovery yet).
Am flashing 4.2.1 stock now in case that can fix it
I flashed both the 4.2.2 OTA and the full rom and no issues. Everythings is the same as before the update. I suggest the OP to take it in for repair. If the Imei number is corrupted or wiped they may have to replace the motherboard.

Well, almost everything, my 16GB Nexus 4 now thinks it is 8GB but the guide above suggests some fixes for that as well
---------- Post added at 11:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:32 PM ----------
And now it's 16GB again, and rooted, running 4.2.2. Finally
Was pretty sure I was having this problem. Did the OTA update to 4.2.2 a few days ago, and immediately after I didn't get any Tmobile service...just "Emergency Calls Only"...I waited overnight hoping it would fix itself but it never did.
But here is where I'm confused. I do get very intermittent 2G service for a few seconds, before it goes back into no service for a while (when I used to get full HSPA+ service before the update). I tried Tmobile technical support which was beyond useless...all the troubleshooting I did led nowhere, including a hard factory reset (4.2.2 was still there after the reset).
I went and bought a cheapie $30 phone form Walmart to use until I get this all sorted out, and I'm having similar (but still different) issues with that one. I get the intermittent service, but nothing even close to what I got before updating Android on the Nexus 4. And on this new phone, I'll get BARS of service, but still not be connected to the TMobile network and get the "Emergency Calls Only" error. That didn't happen with the Nexus 4, I either had bars (and be connected to the network for a few seconds), or 98% of the time have no bars and not be connected to the network.
Right now, the SIM in the cheapie phone is active, and the IMEI in phone status on the Nexus 4 does NOT say unknown. The network says unkown, it says out of service...but I'm guessing that is the result of the SIM not being active?
I guess this is leading me to believe that there is some type of outage, or something else wrong with the network...but what are the chances this outage would occur in the 5 minutes it took to update Android?
Anyone else have any ideas?

I have the same problem and having read the entire thread I have to assume my motherboard is toast. Can anyone provide me with LG/Google repair contact info? Also, any guesses as to how much a motherboard replacement might cost?

Well, actually my signal has been really bad since the update and I continuously get the "restricted access changed" message. But, I'm not sure how much it has to do with the upgrade and how much it has to do with my service provide (my service provide is a piece of you-know-what). I'm looking to change service providers in a month. Will update once I get a new service provider

I was able to fix my phone's issue by reflashing to the stock image. Thus in some cases, like mine, motherboard did not need to be replaced.
You should have dropped the crybaby act and rooted/flashed CWM and a new ROM.

[Q] 4.2.2 update-can't make calls

Hi All,
I'm currently using Straight Talk with ATT SIM. Everything was working fine. I updated the software to 4.2.2 on Sunday. It didn't come OTA so I updated by going to Google Services Framework, clear data, then force stop. After a reboot, the OTA 4.2.2. showed up and I updated then.
Now, I am realizing that I cannot make or receive calls at all. Phone shows signal strength at 100% (4 bars) but when dialing, it does not go through, just silence, then a beep, then ends call.
I have tried rebooting phones, pulling SIM card out and replacing (twice) all with no luck.
HELP!!
Edit: I just realized I don't have internet connection either.

I was on the same situation a couple days ago. after flashing 4.2.2, I can still make a call, people can still call me, but no sound from either me or them. The micros work fine (you can check by Voice Search).
At that time, after I ended messing everything up, I restocked the phone to 4.2.1. Everything worked fine after then. I dont know why this happens. You may wait for another solution. Just let you know that a restock can fix it, so dont worry. However I dont encounrage it becuase it wipes your phone completly.

In case you have no choice, back up your phone by Titanium backup. That saves everything you have at the moment
Same issue after 4.2.2 update
I'm having the exact same issue with my Nexus 4. Let me elaborate. I've had my Nexus 4 since the initial sale, today I got the OTA update sent via Tmobile. My phone seemed to work fine afterwards until I tried to answer a call. Upon attempting to answer or make a call (even with full service) the bars instantly drop to zero (hollow triangle) and an out-of-area tone & message display.
Restarted, pulled sim, sim worked fine in other phone, checked & rechecked APN/other settings, had Tmobile "reset" my device on network, finally wiped my device. I still can not make or receive phone calls. The radio seems to just disconnect when attempting to.
Spoke with Tmobile customer support (worthless), Tech Care (Very helpful & knowledgeable but no fix), Google Nexus support (Offered to replace device! However can't have any cosmetic damage). LG also contacted but zero assistance given.
I'm stumped, it seems to me that this issue might be related to the update disabling the LTE radio, because data & everything else works except for making calls. Like I said, Google offered to replace the device however I did (in good faith) advise them of a hairline crack on the back of the device, like many other N4 owners have had, not from a drop. Upon hearing of cosmetic damage they said that it's no longer their liability. I'm very disappointed but I understand.
Since the warranty is void from the crack, I'm going to root & play around.
Any questions or advice?
---------- Post added at 08:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:44 PM ----------
Also, I'm on the same radio (Baseband?) as OP.
Radio: 2.0.1700.48
I'm curious to see if rooting will solve this issue. If yes, I will go this route.
Keep me posted. So frustrated.
Thanks johnmedic.

[Q] Phone doesn't make calls

Hello all. So my rooted I337 stops making phone calls intermittently. It comes and goes completely by random. I can't hear the other person and they can't hear me. Nothing fixes it consistently. This happens across all the ROMs I've tried. Samsung tested all the hardware and said it was fine. T-Mobile confirmed it was not a network issue. I've flashed a number of different ROMs, SS 3.72 and 3.75, I've used the phone without putting ANY user apps on it at all, etc. I always get the same results eventually. I'm sort of at wit's end here. I've also attached a logcat (fist time doing one) if it's any help. I've also already got a new SIM card and changed the SIM tray (a pro did it) just in case to no avail. Thanks in advance.
I'm hoping someone knows the answer. My phone has similar issues. I have data and get normal text messages but my phone will not call out or can i receive calls. i did find a work around but not happy about it. if i dial *#*#4636*#*# then change radio from LTE/GSM Auto prl to GSM then calls data and text all work but at obviously slow speeds.

Is your phone unlocked? If so is it unlocked by code from t-mobile or thru regionlockaway or similar method?
Changing the radio signal doesn't work for me, but I have noticed that the calls stop working when I turn off the dialing keypad tones. That being said, about a hundred other things can make the phone calls go silent, including, I suspect, installing Google Voice, Google Hangouts, or altering the ROM in literally any way.

Factory t-mobile S7e losing mobile network connectivity

so this is the second S7e and second SIM that I have been having this issue with. The phone will lose connection to the mobile network and the ONLY way to recover is to reboot phone. Reset Network Settings doesn't do anything. Toggle airplane mode doesn't do anything. Search for Network Operators doesn't do anything. I have a third phone on the way - but has anyone around here heard of or experienced similar? Am I missing something that I should be doing to correct this?

Did you pay the $20? I didnt want to pay the 20 so i sent the device to samsung. Should get it back friday or monday. The issue is definitely phone related. Im using a verizon s7 now and no issues like that arose. I even tried new sim.. My father is having same issue t-mobile s7 edge

I've suffered the same issue from time-to-time and just do a restart....annoying as hell to be honest
Are you guys always in the same location when this is happening or is it just whenever and wherever? Or is it happening a one certain place where cell signal isn't that great? I had this same issue BUT only in my house so I had to get a network range extender from t-mobile to use at home.
This happens to me all the time. It's so annoying. At work, in the car, at home--it doesn't matter where I am. Have reset firmware multiple times and even rolled back once too. I think it has to do with the latest software because I never had this issue before the Fall/Winter. Hopefully Nougat fixes this!

I would try flashing different radios/modems, its worth a shot. Maybe try flashing the "U" firmware radios.
Nougat will fix it
My wife and I had the same issue on our tmobile s7 edge ... we got the 7.0 beta and now the issue is gone .... I bet it's radio and software related ... 7.0 will be out by the end of the month hope that helps...
I had this issue with my phone, and it was a huge pain. The biggest concern: I didn't know when my phone was off network (voice, data, etc.). The fix, for me, was simple: a new SIM card.
You may have an issue from a rejected permission on an app.
Had the same issue before but I did a hard reset and realised that I changed permissions on an app that wasn't written for 6.1.

My and my friend's phones are both running pure 100% OEM Tmo stock without any apps disabled or touched at all and we have this issue and have done multiple resets. Pretty sure it's an actual hardware defect, or hopefully just a software one with the modem/radio.

I received a refurb. Other than this problem, the phone is alright. I noticed this problem on receiving the phone it was running on T firmware. Then I switched to U firmware and radio but no difference. I called customer support yesterday, they said to go to a retail store to get the phone replaced. My worry is going through this process again and if I receive a bad device again what to do? After all refurb phones are like playing Russian roulette!

I just had this start happening on mine... I really wish they would release nougat already. It is ridiculous they won't post an Odin flashable version of the release candidate if it does indeed fix the issue.
I also think its a specific tower configuration that is causing the issue that the radio can not understand. (Maybe 3xCA). Its happening in the same areas every time.
I just started having this problem in the past month. All at once I've been getting BT sometimes turning off, mobile networks failing to reconnect after I visit a no/low signal area (such as after a plane trip when the phone was in airplane mode). I've also seen wifi mode fight my attempts to turn it back on sometimes - toggling itself on and off a couple of times per second until I poke at enough settings to stop it. When BT turns itself off I have trouble turning it back on, sometimes it just goes back on, sometimes it refuses after a number of tries and if I wait an hour it goes back on just fine.
The folks at a BB Samsung kiosk said they could reflash it if I wanted to go that route, but that the nougat release would be out soon so it might be better to just wait for that. Has anyone had a Samsung rep re-image their phone to try to solve this?

When BT turns itself off I have trouble turning it back on, sometimes it just goes back on, sometimes it refuses after a number of tries and if I wait an hour it goes back on just fine.
The folks at a BB Samsung kiosk said they could reflash it if I wanted to go that route, but that the nougat release would be out soon so it might be better to just wait for that. Has anyone had a Samsung rep re-image their phone to try to solve this?

If you were able to fix without a reboot you didn't have the same issue as this.

I guess I wasn't clear about that as I have several problems that are probably related, but behave a little differently.
BT dropping - can usually turn it back on, but sometimes it refuses. Usually don't need to reboot to fix this.
Wifi dropping - often have trouble turning it back on and have seen the widget toggle off and on repeatedly by itself. Sometimes have to reboot to fix that.
Mobile Network data (and voice sometimes) dropping - usually have to reboot. I think I may have recovered that once without a reboot, but the other few times it's happened in the past month since it started I have rebooted and that fixed it in all but one of the reboots - one time I rebooted and still had to fiddle with it a bit after the reboot before it came back. That may have been because I played too much with the network settings before the reboot and so had to undo that damage after the reboot. But, definitely rebooting is a fairly reliable step in fixing this problem.
All 3 started happening around the same time which is why I thought it was a software issue (I remember a small update a little over a month ago, but forget the details of it). It's nice to hear that others also have the mobile network problem, but if that is isolated in those cases then maybe I'm not seeing exactly the same problem. But, it is clear that rebooting is almost always required to get my mobile network data back so that again suggests that at least that part is the same as what this thread is discussing.
In looking at the T-Mobile updates page for the S7 Edge I see that the version I have (G935TUVU4APK1) was updated in early November - which tracks when I started having problems, and it includes a fix for "Domestic data roaming improvements", which definitely sounds like they may have played with the radios.
I am so ready for the Nougat update...

S8 Call drop then no service - Randomly

Hi Guys
In the UAE and got a sparkling s8, but for 4 days now once a day, while on a call the call drops, signal indicator shows no service and then comes back. Problem is after this happens i am not able to make or receive calls as the other party cant here me. The phone needs to restarted and then works normally.
Has any one else experienced this. I had a chat to Sammy support and all they want to do is to change the SIM. I dont find this acceptable. Has anyone else had similar problem or do you know of any radio updates that could be applied.
thanks
Stiaan
Ican confirm that, it's happened with me exactly the same.
I am in uae using Etisalat in both sims.
Hope samsung solve it in next update, it's annoying.

I am using it in Australia, didn't had any issue at in past 3 days. I got my phone from 24th April. It could be your carrier issue as 2 reports are from UAE only. Who is your carrier provider?
I am also using etisalat.
Any one facing this issue in defiant carrier!
I think i figure out what coz the problem.
I am using app called "dual sim selector" pro version when I disable it all are ok.. Really strange i use this app in other phone with no problem. @stiaandxb are you using this app or similar?
I am in UAE on etisalat and facing the exact same issue with the new galaxy S8. Just hoping that it get solved by some software update.
Sound/Audio problem
I am also facing similar audio problem in Germany on O2. Sometimes when i call somebody and he picks the call. The audio totally disappears. I can't hear him and he can't hear me. After that all sounds from the mobile stops workings. No audio from Music player or videos comes out. If somebody calls me, no ringtone is played neither vibration works. Only system vibration works during SMS reception.
It seems like phone app somehow blocks all the sounds.
The behavior is random. It happens once a day on some call. The only solution to resolve this situation is by restarting the phone.

I got this exactly on my S8 in Bahrain, VIVA, then replaced with S8+ it is even worse than that.
I am from Egypt and face the same problem, call drops then no sound whatsoever until i restart my phone , S8+ dual sim (etisalat + vodafone)
Did anyone find a solution for this? I have the same issue. Galaxy S8+ in Cyprus/Vodafone? Happens every day and the phone needs restart for sounds to come back to life.
Same issue here in IndiaS8+ ( Vodafone +Jio). Tried resetting also. Then happened again once a week ago. Also note that when this happens phone stops behaving like crazy. Can't play video, audio or even network goes down. Both speakers can't play audio(for calls too)
Secondly, when switching the sim for mobile data ( say sim 1 to sim 2) the network goes down and never comes up until you switch back to the old settings of mobile data.
After restart phone behaves normally with proper audio through both the speakers.
Lastly, yesterday while playing asphalt 8, the phone( game) was lagging. There were many frame drops and stutters also the phone was working like it has onlh 512 mb ram. And then suddenly it got freezed with black screen. I had to force restart it by pressing power+Bixby key.
Let me know if anyone find solution for these.

No solution found until now. Talked to Samsung Germany, they asked for factory reset and safe mode. Nothing worked.

Regarding game lagging issue, may be it can be resolved in Game Launcher by setting performance to "High performance" in the right bottom of Game Launcher.

We haven't yet got AQF7 for galaxy S8 in Germany. I have narrowed down the problem to some conditions. May be you can try this to try reproducing the problem. S8 or S8+ must be connected to GSM network in 3G mode, and the other phone must also be connected in 3G mode. Now call from S8/+ to other phone and put the mobile to your ear so that the screen is off (because of proximity sensor) while the bell is ringing. Now pick the call from other phone. Normally in first 2 seconds of call, phone goes to silent mode. Phone goes in silent mode in 5 to 10 calls and then you have to restart.

i will try to do that but please note that the phone was having this issue since day one. no matter what i had. 3G or 4G. Usually it was happening after 3-4 minutes or if i was in a low signal area or driving.
I tested with the update and my issue is gone so far with a lot of testing with calls more than 20 minutes straight
The good thing is that is seems now that this is not a hardware but software issue.

It never happened on my S8 in 2G or 4G. It always happened in the beginning of the call and never appeared once a call has successfully passed first five seconds. But once it appeared, the only solution is to restart. I am unable to find any other solution until now.

I was using the phone on auto 2G/3G/4G and it was always happening.
I tried 4G only and i had the same issue.
I tried 2G/3G and i had the same issue.
Now with the update i am always on auto again and issue is gone since last Wednesday.
Another thing we discovered is that in Cyprus everyone who had the S8+ and the carrier was Vodafone had this issue. Everyone who was with MTN did not.
Hi to all,
I saw that today a firmware was released for S8 also and in Germany. Firmware is the same as S8+ G950FXXU1AQF7

Yes, a firmware is available for Germany (Vodafone). My S8 is carrier independent and i don't want to write it using odin. I will wait for the OTA update.
