Note 4 Auto Reboot HELP !!!!! - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, I preordered my Note 4 when it first became available and got the phone at the earliest in my country. It's a SM-910G. I used a lot of custom roms but TW always had the best battery performance and features for S health and S Pen etc. But my phone keeps on auto rebooting on the latest official TW MM rom from Samsung and it wasnt even rooted, updated regularly. but when the problem persisted, i bought a Stalion battery from amazon as a lot of developers suggested. It went ok form 2 months. Then the issue continued. switched to Lineage and also downgraded to official KK, LP roms from Sammy but all in vain. Samsung Servicing asks aroung 320$ to fix the phone. Partial Wake Lock did not fix my phone. Please help.

Sounds very much like the eMMC_read failed issue.
See:

In my case it started out exactly like yours, I bought a new battery (official Samsung), in my case because the camera app seemed to crash out and cause a reboot, I suspected a tired battery. Then a few months later it went downhill, and fast. Started out with perceptible "lag" in some apps, then full-on freezes (everything just stopped in it's tracks for a few moments - eg a page-swipe in the App Drawer, or scrolling a web page). These then started to be followed by spontaneous reboots, until one day I got the "emmc_read failed error".
I did not try the wakelock sticking plaster. I wrote to Samsung and convinced them to repair my phone FoC despite being a few weeks out of warranty. It's with them now, I'll see what it is like when it comes back.
Bonne chance.

[Q] Lollipop Is Extremely Slow and Drains Battery

What i Gods name was Google testing this software on. Its simply just crap! Really really slow and I only have battery to lunchtime. Tried the cache wipe, but with no success. Even the sms text app uses 3-4 seconds to show. Sometimes, hitting the home button uses as long.
Is there an update coming? I really can't find much concrete on the net.

It's Samsung's fault because they rolled out Lollipop.
However, Google isn't blameless here - Lollipop has a been a clusterfcuk of a release in my opinion.
The only thing Google seems to have got right is Material Design. Where's the much vaunted improvements in battery life from Project Volta? MIA, even on the two Nexus devices I have.
Definitely seems to have been a case of form over function in Lollipop.
Interestingly, the preview release of Android M runs better on my Nexus 9 than any version of Lollipop ever did.

Dave

Try factory reset. No problem running Lollipop here.
N910G snapdragon running BOE4
Sent from my SM-N910G using XDA
no problems running it here and my device has so many customisations
I had far too many issues. I rolled back on KK. I said for a while "yeah, LP is awesome. Fluid... even though there are issues with it with the Note 4..." until I got sick of the lags here and there, and the battery drain... rolled back to stock KK, and boy! I'm happy! Battery life is automatically 20% better. I also like the stability, it doesn't feel like a toy anymore. I'll wait for 5.1.1
Where do I downloaded kitkat and roll back without rooting? I hate samsmobile download so please tell me it's an alternative

Easy! Use SamMobile to START the download, and then just copy the name that starts to download, and search for it on google.
Then put your phone in download mode, use Odin (put the ROM in the AP section, make sure you're using the correct rom for your phone), and click start.
Easy But these are the instructions I found. Search in the forum on how to downgrade to KK. That's what I did.
Best of luck!
this is a nightmare, how GN4 is soo slow? I've sold my Nexus 6 to buy this one....and wtf is happen with Samsung :S......why why :'(
I will downgrade o kitkat and I hope for better performance
I recently upgraded my Note 4 sm-n910G last month. I rooted my stock kitkat Note 4 and was loving it, Kitkat was blazing fast before and root was even better. But then i lost OTA and couldnt upgrade to Lollipop, even Kies3 wouldnt as i was "unofficial". After almost a year, i finally said F-IT, and went to Sammobile, got the Australian 5.0.1 BOC3 i believe, and flashed it. Did the factory reset even tho i didnt have to lose everything. In the end, its worked out beautifully, Lollipop runs fast, no lags or bugs. I think Kitkat was a fraction faster, but i dont have issues i keep hearing about battery drains & lags. All goog for me so far.
I cant wait for 5.1 for stock Note 4 rom. Im thinking about rooting this thing once again. I might even flash CM12.1 nightly ROM, the worlds my oyster

[Q] Phone arriving tomorrow, some advice please

My SM-N910F arrives tomorrow. I guess ios the Qualcomm device, I live in Italy.
Some advice please
1. Many experience worse battery usage with lollipop and advice not to upgrade from kk4.4.4., is it still so? For me battery drain is a problem, my Note 3 last half day, because of very heavy usage (8 email accounts, 6 messenger programs, many calls, many whatsapp/viber call messages, and so on)
2. Rooting. My only wish is to use GMD Gesture (or similar) in order to use device with one hand. Is rooting obligatory, or there is another program, or? If obligatory, is it possible NOT to trip knox?
3. I never liked touchwiz and always put Nova Launcher in my previous samsung (S3, Note 2, Note 3. Is it still the same?
4. other advices?

hi ,
ok, this is my "take " on the n Note 4 N910F ................
I have a Note 4 N910F ,rooted ( since October 2014 , hours after i got phone and on Android v4.4.4)
I am now on Lollipop BOC5 ,with custom recovery CWM and stock ROM .( i have also been on previous/ earlier Lollipop versions ...BOB4 and BOC3 ) I am a meduim user .
So, I think i can give an opinion about how i experience/find Lollipop ???
My battery life has always been good ,across all versions from Android v4.4.4 up to now .My device is running very smooth and have no lag ..apart from recent button and one other small "bug " ..thats it .I have taken note of members complaining about poor battery life and this is very strange to me.
Yes, i have had odd battery drain ,but managed to id "culprit/culprits " " and its always been an 3rd party app that was badly behaving or an setting ( location ...etc ..)...maybe i am lucky ?.....NO .
I also have an Note 3 ,rooted ,stock Rom etc ..No problems, battery been good, running smooth .. etc etc I also have a Note 2 ,rooted ,No problems ...........................................
I would say your battery usage, should be the same as your Note 3...( my take )
as this is what i experience between my Note3 and Note 4 .
2.....Rooting, i rooted from day one with Chainfire CF autoroot and still up to Lollipop .I am personally not obsessed/care " about Knox .I don't need Knox and use a Nortons antivirus on my phone ..been for years and happy with it ..I do however respect members viewpoints ,that do worry or care about Knox.
I also use GMD gesture on LollIpop. ( and joined the app beta testing program )
Its is still a little " buggy " here and there ,but works mostly fine for me !
3.I have Nova Prime on all my phones and don't use Touchwiz...No problems .
4. Surely ,if you encounter an issues , you should be able to short it out .....?
Bottom line ..its your device enjoy it .
Good luck
Other advice is not to root the phone before you are 100% sure all hardware works flawless.
It would be a shame sending a faulty device in for repair for something that could have easily been avoided by proper testing, then have your warranty rejected because you rooted it.
And of course when you root, make proper back-ups.
Also getting a screen protector and a nice cover should be recommend.
I'm using the Samsung S-View*flipcover and enjoy it a lot.
Kind regards, Stefan.
I agree with ThaEvilOne, make sure you test the phone for the first few days first before you root. I never rooted mine, just disabled some Bloatwiz, and I get great battery life. In fact we have two N910C in the family and both last a day.

thanks, but you should see GMD gestures what does to your phone, is an amazing program.
I agree will need to check is 100% working before rooting
BTW I bought it from Amazon warehouse delas, and saved 100 Euro, I hope nothing is faulty with it
To all.
How to check that is 100% working, beside using it a lot. There is maybe some downloadable app that checks that all the phone is fine?
The phone is perfect but KNOX counter is 0x1, the bastard using Amazon warranty gave it back like this (I bought from Amazon warehouse deals).
I paid for it 525 EUro.
Suggestions?
New it costs 570 Euro, maybe waiting some weeks usually you can find it for 530 Euro (NEW).
ALthough I was thinking to root it so ......

Overheating issues with CM12 for i9500?

Hello
I started using CM12 for my Galaxy S4 i9500 about a year ago. At first I didn't mind that the phone was overheating when I played games, or videos, or just turned on the mobile data. But it's become irritating now.
The keyboard constantly crashes when I turn on the data, so does chrome and all other google services. Can't even hold my device in hand when trying to play games cuz it just gets so damn hot. It's already cracked 4 tempered glass screen guards (Would've been more but I stopped at 4. They barely lasted 2 or 3 days each).
Is there any solution to this heating and mobile data issues? Is there another custom ROM that's better and more stable for the i9500 than CyanogenMod? Which one would you recommend most, and why?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
All other custom ROMs are based on CM. So there is a high possibility that your issues are present on them too.
But instead of waiting several days for somebody with an GT-I9500 to answer, why don't you just check out the ROM threads and see what other users posted there. You'll have everything figured way faster.
I would've tried that but I already bricked the phone once trying to do so. Which is why I'm a bit scared of going down the wrong path, I'm not too knowledgeable in these matters.
I did not say to flash the ROM. I suggested that you read the replies from other users and then decide. Also read the first post, devs usually put then most known problems there.

Nexus 6P horrible lag issue when rooted

So I picked up a 6P again after I got rid of my original a couple years ago. It arrived yesterday and I got it all setup, but then it started having issues that night. So I did a factory reset. I should mention that the very first thing I did when I got it was root it and install elementalx. Didn't bother with a ROM since Pure Nexus hasn't been supported for awhile (which is what I installed on my old 6P) and I was already running Oreo.
Today was going great until about an hour ago. I unplugged it from charging and the same symptoms as last night happened. When this happens I have to hold the power button until the device reboots.
What happens is that severe lag happens. The screen turns on after a few seconds when I use the fingerprint scanner or power button, but it's very slow and glitchy. Like it'll show half the notification bar and below that there will be a 2 inch long by 1 inch long rectangle in the upper left corner that shows the bottom of my wallpaper. The rest of the screen will show my wallpaper but it'll be glitched, where like the bottom is actually a section of the top. And trying to pull down the notification shade is just impossible. It glitches big time but after lagging of course. I really wish I had pictures to better explain. If it happens again I'll be sure to take some.
From what I've said though, does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
I have a few days where I can still return the device, but I really would like to keep it since it's in mint condition. Battery life is great still and there doesn't seem to be any performance issues when it's working properly. I really don't want to keep doing resets, which if I'd have to then I don't see any point in keeping it since it basically won't be usable.
Edit: 9:37pm
Just had it happen again so I took some pictures. It got to the point the screen wouldn't come on at all, so I had to hold the power button again to reboot. But I found out it still registers the fingerprint to unlock (I hear the sound) and hitting the power button twice still launches the camera (the phone vibrates). When this first started happening this time, after waiting for a little bit with the screen on, I got the popup that the System UI wasn't responding.
Just wanted to update that I flashed the stock ota from Google's site for the October 2018 update. Since doing so the phone has been working fine *knocks on wood*. So right now I'm thinking there was an issue with rooting, elementalx, or magisk. I'll make a backup and do those things one at a time and see when/if my issues return.
Just another update for those who stumble across this topic from Google or whatever.
Things were working great for a few days so I decided to go ahead and root but not install elementalx or anything. Did so last night and upon waking up this morning the phone was having the lag issue again. So it seems rooting is causing my problem. I used magisk, so I'm going to try SuperSU and see if that causes my problem as well.
Switching from magisk to SuperSU did not solve my problem. The phone started freezing up and lagging bad again, requiring me to hold the power button and reboot. So I guess I'll just unroot again and leave it that way.
Unless someone seeing this has any other ideas.
I dont recommend oreo. Im having a lot of issues like the worst of all not being able to install TWRP, lag, screen stutters and excessive battery usage
I love Oreo. Have zero problems with it, my problems are this specific phone. Don't root it and it works flawlessly. Oreo runs better for me than any previous version of Android ever, especially on older lower spec devices. There is zero reason something as powerful as the 6P can't handle it.
TWRP installed without issue, never had an issue with it and Oreo shouldn't affect it anyways. I've got the phone running kind of stock. I installed TWRP and ElementalX and left it at that. Using other apps and adb commands I was able to install a bunch of "Pixel only" stuff and get what I wanted without root. So I'm happy.
The thing's just a side project next to my Note 9 anyways. So long as the hardware issues stay at bay that render the 6P worthless, I'll stay happy.
Sounds like to me you need to do a full re-flash from the stock files on Google's Nexus site and start fresh. Or yours is starting to show signs of the hardware defects.
Either way, this topic is moot to me now I guess. Mainly just left it here in case others find it through Google searches. Good luck!
Whenever I do a major android version upgrade I wipe internal storage. I found that if I didn't do this would get all kinds of little issues. Internal storage carries over files from one android version to the next.
My 6P is doing very similar as yours is. Extreme lagging, basically totally freezing and sometimes half the screen is visible just like on your pictures. I haven't find a solution to it, but you are saying not rooting it fixed it for you? Seems far-fetched but I guess I have no other option. I have been using Lineage OS.
Yeah, removing root instantly fixed the issues for me. I made sure to clear cache and everything like that from recovery too. I'm still unlocked and using TWRP with Elementalx, setup however I like. I just can't root. Soon as I do I can actually feel a little slowdown in using the phone, and then after a day or so the horrible lag with freezing and stuff starts.
Not sure about using a custom ROM since like I said I didn't try it on this phone. My original 6P didn't have any of these issues and I could root, ROM, and modify my heart out.
So to recap, currently and since my last actual update here basically, I've been unlocked, using elementalx and TWRP, but running stock October 2018 Oreo ROM and all that. I used adb commands to get Greenify setup as close to root settings as possible, and to install some Pixel stuff to get night light and whatnot. Got immersive mode by using systemuituner app. And a couple other things to get it as close to how my original 6P was on Pure Nexus.
Hope this helps. I'll be glad to provide anything else I can.
Oreo is crap on the nexus 6p. Seems.like google is slowing it down. Not only on the operating sysyem but also on its latest apps. The latest version of maps is too laggy but the one that comes with nougat is smooth. Thats why i went back to nougat is lile heaven and hell. Shame on goole being thay oreo runs very good on the 5x but not the 6p

Take your conspiracy theories elsewhere. Oreo runs smooth as butter on perfectly (or even in my case, not perfectly since it won't root) fine 6P's. Everything works as it should and I have zero issues and zero lag. All you're doing is cluttering up my topic on something that has absolutely nothing to do with Oreo. This topic is about the issues I'm having after rooting, nothing else. If you don't like Oreo, fine. If you think a device that's several years old at this point isn't running the newest OS as smooth as it ran older ones, that's fine too. Especially since Google has at this point completely disowned the Nexus nameplate. Just don't come into someone else's topic and run your mouth. I told you before I had no issues with Oreo and that it sounds like your device is showing odd behavior, if you didn't like that... well that's fine too. Why subscribe to this topic and keep coming back if it has nothing to do with you. Go away or contribute helpful info to the issue at hand here; rooting complications not Oreo.
Although at this point I'm not having any issues. My 6P has been running buttery smooth since I removed root on what, October 18th... that's about two weeks ago. And this includes installing and tweaking stuff on it that it's supposedly too obsolete to run and only Pixel devices can handle. It goes toe to toe with my Note 9 in daily activities, all while running Oreo.

I told you the first time you mentioned that "solution" , Nougat isn't an option for me and shouldn't be because I'm pretty sure I made it clear Oreo wasn't the problem. I even made it clear I basically solved my issue before your first foray into this thread.
I made it clear again in my last post.
I really don't care if there are comparison videos, I have absolutely zero lag if I'm unrooted. That is what this topic is about, lag caused by root. Those who actually spend the time to read more than the topic title can understand that. I've been working with electronics for a long long time, I know how to diagnose everything and I think I made that pretty clear by providing updates as I did things. If not for the fact the thing is all setup and running great, I'd wager I could go back to Nougat and still have root lag issues. The 6P and the 5X for that matter, are ticking time bombs. They both have hardware defects that basically turn them into fancy paperweights. Those defects could be causing my issues, your issues, and edda's issues. No real way to tell that until the bootloops or early shutdowns start. I'm of course hoping this late in the game that maybe those of us with still functioning units don't have those issues, but my gut tells me it's always a "time will tell" issue.

I had problems similar to this and found out it was the immersive mode causing it, activating it with any app caused problems. If you download terminal emulator and use some commands that can be found elsewhere in the Nexus 6p part of the forum it works fine. Hope this helps. Currently on Resurrection remix with magisk installed. Running smooth as butter. Just waiting for pie to be more stable now

Thanks but I wasn't even messing with immersive mode at the time. Or are you saying just having it present because I made uituner visible in settings that it might have been causing it?
My issue very much seems to be straight up linked to rooting. If I used magisk or SuperSU (really the only two I'm willing to trust) I'd notice the phone felt sluggish soon as it would reboot after rooting with them. It wasn't a huge slowdown though so I thought nothing of it, until the horrible lag/freezing issues started usually within the day. Remove root, and everything went back to normal.
I've since been using immersive mode without any issue, but of course I gave up on root.
And yeah, I hear ya on Pie. Soon as it becomes stable enough I'll be testing it out. I had 8.1 running on my Note 4, just sold it about a month ago, and it was running great. Only minor issues that were still being worked on. Being a Nexus though I have high hopes this'll be a bit easier to port to.

Terrible performance after Galaxy S8 SM-G950U One UI/Pie update

Hi all,
My phone performance is terrible, everything runs slow and lagging since I took the update. Phone performance was very good before. Anyone else experience this and have any ideas to bring performance back to par?
Thanks for any help.
Factory reset or full wipe after updating to a new firmware. Also, do not restore Google apps, just start from a scratch.
I also have serious lag, it feels like a budget phone. I've had this phone since it launched, and installed every update without precaution. This is the first time experiencing these issues.
Frame rate is terrible, especially while scrolling. Delays in pressing buttons or launching apps have grown from milliseconds to sometimes two or three seconds. No other problems(aside from poor design choices). It feels like aggressive power throttling, not memory issues.
As soon as I saw that so much manual power management has been replaced by a "learning" system, I'm skeptical that the usual fixes will do anything for my problems, especially considering there is no other malfunction. Anyone else?

Samsung Galaxy s8 SM-G950W. Yes. Ever since the update, my Samsung is losing files., running slow and unable to use previously used apps. Substranum, fonts etc.
It's Samsung way of saying - "Buy galaxy S10"
I didn't fell any difference at all in performance.

Well, that's what I was waiting to hear. If ppl aren't universally having the issue, then a factory reset may cure the problem. I'll give it a try soon.
Yes i just got bad performance after installing pie (custom rom, so i always factory reset or it wont work) but yeah after 14 days my phone start to slowing down like old smartphone and the apps is not starting correctly (e.g i must start magisk manually or the root wont work (the app cant detect if phone is rooted even when magisk hide is off)).
I try the LightROM and ALEXIS and both have this problem (performance way worse on lightrom). I know this isnt their fault but the samsung fault (maybe because its early relase? Or...).
Note : performance is normal in the first day, but after 14-30 days the phone start to acting weirdly (the apps behave weirdly) dunno why.
Btw i use SM-G950FD
After restarting about 5 times, then manually clearing cache partition, I was able to get smooth performance. Unfortunately, I still have to restart at least once a day to prevent lagging animation. This is with light usage: streaming, facebook, email.
I turned on "reduce animations" in advanced features, and set the animation scales to 1.5 with dev options. This seems to help prolong smooth operation, but I still have to restart daily. Next step is factory reset, I have a lot to backup...
fresh install thru odin and start all over again is really good solution. at the beginning i also experiencing lag
Mine has an issue of having the fingerprint not working after it was changed. I have to do one of the following:
1. Restart and boot via safe mode then if it works, reboot again
2. Restore Settings from synced backup
3. Reset Settings
So much of a hassle.... I am thinking of rooting this soon.

Hi all,
My phone performance is terrible, everything runs slow and lagging since I took the update. Phone performance was very good before. Anyone else experience this and have any ideas to bring performance back to par?
Thanks for any help.

Had the same problem so flashed official firmware (for my carrier, downloaded from sammobile) with Odin. This part can be done without of rooting your phone.
Do this first (back up your data before as clear flash will delete everything), and test after if it works well. If not, root it (https://forum.xda-developers.com/sa...w-to/guide-root-install-twrp-samsung-t3747535) and install adaway from xda labs.
If you root the phone or install TWRP, e-fuse will break and you cannot go back after that. Warranty will be void and the Samsung fit app won't work anymore.
Fortunately, there are workarounds on a rooted phone (https://tinyurl.com/yy37gnwv) so that is not a big deal, at least for me.
Not sure when you root it if wave pay services will work so do some research first.

Has your lag subsided after time? Mine appears after a night's sleep. It never fails: Restart in the morning, smooth scrolling all day. Next morning, laggy, stuttering scrolling until I restart again. I've uninstalled all unused apps and left power mode on high performance. No change. As soon as I wake up, animation lags like a budget phone. Everything else is reliable, just not the animation.
Of course, I don't actually know what's going on, but I'm willing to bet that this new power management system that we can't control is to blame. If I have to go through all the odin, etc steps, I may just roll back to oreo. Pie is prettier, but I want my smooth operation back.

S10e gets similar reception to my A8(2018). When I got the A8 I had a S8 before that, and i don't remember there being any difference in signal. I live in poor signal area, so if a phone had bad signal, I'd probably remember because I owuldn't have any signal at all.
This is really quite unacceptable. I took the OTA update and the lagging began. I've never had an issue with an OTA update. I've never done a factory reset after an OTA update either. Flashing custom ROM is different but this is from Samsung...
Does anyone have a solution that doesn't involve daily reboots or a factory reset? I just find that really inconvenient.

Yes, I agree. It's hard to know at whom who to point the finger. Google, Samsung, or both. Regardless, it's very disappointing, and hurts my impression of both companies.
I'm currently allowing the phone to run for 7 days to see if the root method listed above by robyos may be feasible for my tmo s8.
If manually restarting is the only hurdle for you, it can now be set to restart automatically (I guess they anticipated this?) Settings > device care > three dots > auto restart.
It feels like a duct-tape band-aid, but it's there. After my 7 day test, I'll probably give this auto-restart a try. However, I'm concerned about the terribly annoying tmo jingle at each restart.

I'm thinking the problem may be googles not Samsung's...I had a OnePlus 5 for almost 2 years. At some point after the pie update it would stutter while scrolling or during animations intermittently. Even a factory reset didn't fix it. The phone was still fast but it was aesthetically annoying seeing the stuttering.
I drown the phone in the ocean on vacation this month and had to replace it so I got a used s8. I haven't had the same issue with scrolling but I've only had it for a couple weeks so far on a fresh wipe. It had some "normal" Samsung lag that the OnePlus didn't have while opening apps and it doesn't keep nearly as much in memory (4gb vs 8 GB RAM). But I'm still thinking the problem may be with pie itself since people were complaining about stuttering on both Samsung and OnePlus phones.
Hopefully my s8 is not affected and it's only certain ones experience it.

Wow! It's sad to hear an 8gb phone would still have the same issue. I wonder if this has to do with power management. Perhaps it's squeezing a tiny percentage of battery life out of saving some frames. It drives me crazy and gives me a headache. I wish they'd provide a simple switch for whatever this is.
This os feels like they ventured into breaking what works in an endless quest to fix what wasn't broken. Perhaps some team of programmers is celebrating minute improvements, but it's coming at the expense of the consumer, who never signed up to be the guinea pig. Each update seems to remove or break basic reliability and functionality that we paid for. I feel like I paid a premium price to become a software tester.
So reboots don't seem to fix the lag I'm experiencing when opening and closing certain apps. This phone was plenty fast before for me. Other issues are present now too. Auto adaptive display brightness doesn't work as well. I also really think it's sheet that you can't disable GPS and have the battery saving mode anymore! WTF Samsung.
