I'm curious what everyones Preferred Network Type is on their G2.
You get there by...
Go to "Phone"
Type *#*#4636#*#* (Don't hit send, you will see a screen appear)
Click "Phone Information"
Scroll down until you see "Set Preferred Network Type" and post what it says
The reason I want to know is because I did this and my phone's preferred network type says "WCDMA perferred".
Does anyone know if changing this value to GSM Prl will be more suitable for this GSM phone or does it not matter?
I switched mine to GSM Preferred PRL and I seem to get better battery life. It has a higher threshold before it switches from E to H. In places with good H signal it doesn't seem to make a difference.
I'm happy with it this way.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
From the N1 thread I used to lurk in religiously.
WCDMA preferred - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 3G is favored more.
GSM only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
WCDMA only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM auto (PRL) - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more. This one is a bit confusing to me since PRL is associated mostly with CDMA technology and not GSM technology.
CDMA auto (PRL) - The CDMA phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more.
CDMA only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
EvDo only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) - Some phones are equipped with both GSM and CDMA capabilities. This setting appears to just have the phone attempt to stay connected to the data communication type that works the best. (Maybe the Samsung Galaxy S will take advantage of this???)
Unknown - If none of the above fit or the phone is acting weird as far as connecting to the carrier, you will see your preferred network type is set to this.
Also, WCDMA uses more power because it is constantly scanning for connections and will always prefer 3G connections; have a lower threshold to use 3G.
GSM AUTO PRL has a higher threshold for 3G, generally about 2 bars or slightly lower so far I've noticied.
i cannot change network type. default is wcdma preferred. i click gsm only or wcdma only and it defaults back to wcdma preferred. Help! I cannot save the setting. I have galaxy note i717.
I have a Samsung I9000 and recently added internet onto my plan, though it only says edge internet. Is there anyway to get it to 3g?
Which country? You never rooted your device and also didn't plan it? Which modem?
Maybe you can check if your phone is forced on 2g!
Go to Settings -> Wireless -> Mobile -> Network (sorry i got i9001 italian! )
Here i can choose between:
_GSM (2g)
_WCDMA (3g)
_Auto GSM/WCDMA (3g, but switch on 2g when there's no signal)
If you have GSM or "2g only" that's the problem
Its a GT-I9003, I do not know what country it is from and I tried the network function it only gives me 2G stills.
Is it possible to get 3g on this phone??
I'll try to explain in different way
Follow the 4-step i made in attached image, what do you see?
(last image show what you should choose to have 3g network)
As you can see on gsmarena (sorry i cannot post links), your phone is theoretically perfectly able to use 3g!
I am a noob to the world of android phones (as an owner) however I have an android tablet. Currently i am warming up to android so i purchased a Samsung Galaxy Y. I am currently in Jamaica and the provider I had purchased the phone from is a 2g, 4g provider knowing i could not legitimately get 4G I was given a 4G none the less but my phone would say H during data transfers, I have never tested the speed though. My internal memory was full and after hours and days of trying link2SD and other programs to create a psedo-extended internal drive i decided to try Creeds rom V4 however it was a memory hog and i decided to try another ROM, this caused my phone to "brick" i was able to unbrick itexcept now i am seeing E for my data transfers instead of H. I have no HSPA menu since noticing that i have tried several other ROMs and stock OS however none gave me back the H please help :'(
*#*#4636#*#* push Phone Information and push WCDMA Preferred on the drop down.

Hi guys,
I just got a Nokia X6 on Android One shipped from China and for some reason it defaults continuously to H+ instead of LTE on my Cricket network. On my Network Type option in the Setting In only have 3 options 2G, 3G and 4G and I have 4G selected, but still H+ is being used by default even in areas where I used to get full LTE signal.
I have tried however to get into the Android Testing Menu (by dialing *#*#4636#*#*) and change the Preferred Network Type to a few options like LTE/UMTS auto (PRL), but for some reason is the H+ that is picket all the time. even in areas where I know the LTE signal is strong. If I select "LTE only" from that menu, then I'm getting on LTE but as soon as I go into weak signal region, the signal drops completely, while not the same thing I can say about the other option, when the H+ connection is present in the same weak signal area.
Another thing that I see in the Android Testing Menu is that my VoLTE provisioned option is Off and I can turn it on.
Do you guys have any ideas on how can I get this device connected to LTE when the signal is strong?
I have a Nokia X6. I put two SIMs into it, both show 4G.
I have some problem to connect data or mobile internet. Grammen phone provider.
I was ready to purchase one, however, was curious if this would work on t-mobile. If so, would the Wi-Fi calling work?
Did you already checked if your 4g network band compatible with your phone?

So, have you solved your problem?
If the ROM of your phone is "CN" you could try to flash the phone to the global ROM 2_29(WW) or wait for a new update of the firmware. You haven't noticed the firmware's version. Have the phone got any updates?
I just returned the phone and got an LG G7 instead. The X6 that I was using also had a problem with Bluetooth as I was never able to turn it on.
Manually switch the preferred network type.
I am using the latest Stock Android version on Nokia 8 and struggled with this issue too. I tried everything I could possibly do.
The simplest answer is to go into network settings and select 2G, give it a minute to find it. Do it for 3G too. Give it a minute to find it. Then 4G, same thing. Finally select 4G as preferred network type and that should do it.
It looks like the default preferred network type is 3G from the factory.
guys i cant even access my mobile data connection can anyone tell how access it
thanks

HI,
My redmi note 7 has a issue, when I put the Phone in GSM automatic he take 4g for a while but after some minutes it goes down to H+ or H (depends of the signal) and it dont take 4g again, it take 4g if I reset the signal or put airplane Mode for a moment. If I put LTE only in the settings it takes LTE and stay there normal, the speed test is normal for LTE but there is not LTE in everywhere and I lost the signal if there are not LTE. Why the Phone dont go 4G automatic when there are 4g?
Sorry for my english
I'd try changing the "preferred network type" under SETTINGS > NETWORK & INTERNET > MOBILE NETWORK (I'm on HavocOS, on your rom the path may differ)
The preferred network type is GSM/LTE
