That is because the Moto G5 does not have OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), you will have to use digital video stabilization which won't look very great tbh,

OIS is hardware dependent feature. That hardware is absent in G5+
The Motorola camera app has video stabilisation in it? Obviously this is software based as we don't have OIS... but I don't see why you'd want to use any third party software to achieve the same result - it seems to do an OK job to me.

That's because your video resolution might be either 4K or 1080p [60fps]. Video stabilization won't work on those resolutions. Select 1080p [30fps] or any other resolution.
yeah, that was it. thank you

Hi,
Have you taken pictures with another camera app than stock?
Camera MX (free on the store)

Stock camera
Seems the quality of the pics taken by the stock app is not as good as the other.
I've found that in the market they all have their pros and cons and that the differences are variable depending upon the circumstance, but the camera certainly isn't the feature to be bragged about on this phone. I've found that one of the ports of the Nexus 4 camera produces the best results most consistantly on my handset. I've also often wondered if my handset got the short end of the stick with the camera it has since a lot of other people are happy with the quality they get out of their RAZR HD, though I'm coming from a Galaxy S 2 which takes wonderful shots in comparison to some of the phones out now despite it now being an old phone model. Its the one thing I really miss about the S2.
On a tangent, I played around with a Galaxy S 4 today and did a bit of camera testing. Single shot stuff. I didn't find that it was all that much better than the S3 or S2 for taking single snapshots. The anti-shake setting worked but not quite as well as on the previous devices, for example. That was really all I could test though, since they always have great lighting when you're looking at phones. Quality is quality, but I'm not convinced 13 megapixels is better than 8 the way Samsung implemented 8 on the previous devices. To be fair though, I had it at 9.5 megapixels. 13 restricts you to a 4:3 shot.
I'll have to try out Camera MX now
thanks for the heads up, just tested it out and it does seem a little sharper, plus the FX options are pretty cool too

Are there any "hacks" for the stock cam in the build prop or media xml where one might tune a little parameters of e.g. jpg quality?
After the update we get a real improvement over the stock FW from camera but... is this enough?
Well, regarding HW, the camera is great. Lets compare with some flaghships...
Moto X
The Moto X anyhow includes a CMOS sensor topped by a color filter array with a single clear pixel in the place of what would otherwise be a green pixel in Bayer land, and claims a 75 percent gain in sensitivity as a result. Motorola has long been an OmniVision customer, for about as long as I’ve tracked them. The Moto X continues that trend with a 10 MP OV10820 rear facing CMOS sensor, which is a variant of OV10810 that includes a clear pixel. That rear facing sensor includes 1.4µm pixels and thus ends up notably bigger than the 13 MP sensors with 1.1µm pixels with a format of 1/2.6". The sensor array is 16:9 aspect ratio, with an image size of 4320x2432, which sort of gives away its real design intention – a 4K (UHD) image sensor, though obviously the Moto X can’t shoot 4K video.
Atop the Moto X sensor is a relatively fast F/2.4 system with 4.5 mm focal length, which gives it around a 30mm (35mm effective equivalent) focal length. I still would love to see more phones come in around 35, but 30 is still a bit longer than the 28 and below I see starting to become more common to get the stack thinner.

So... what is happening? Yes... it is FW related.
What can we do?
Am I the only one who thinks a lot of the problem could be terrible jpg compression? I'd love to see what they look like before compression.
My main issue still (which I've reported to Motorola) is that the camera will get washed out (hazy white look) in bright daylight. I think it is notably less than before the update, but it still needs improvement. I am hoping Motorola continues to look into camera improves and doesn't just scoff it off as complete because they "fixed" the obvious issues.
I now read about this app in a Phonearena article. Does anyone with a Nexus 5 want to try it ?
Just wanted to let you all know about this app.

Just tried it. It's alright. Not a lot of options in the camera itself. You have to go into the apps gallery to edit the photos, as well as export them into the main gallery of the device. Images look decent and capture seems quicker than stock.
Love it so far. A good amount of filters and plenty of tweaks. Played with it for a couple minutes at the bar last night and was satisfied with what I got: http://imgur.com/ml4deJx
It's a pretty nice app. The design has a slight learning curve as it's not quite holo and the back button behavior needs to be fixed. But the filters are excellent. They are much less destructive than the ones you see in instragram et al. VSCO has a very good reputation making pro level Lightroom presets which emulate specific film types.
Where is the zoom??? I didn't play w/ it much before I uninstalled, but I'll be damned if I could figure out how to zoom. I've tried a few cam apps so far, but still like stock better than this one........JMO.

Just crop the photo after shooting. That is all digital zoom does anyway.
Anybody else have the problem where after you export an image to the gallery, the gallery crashes until you delete the image via a file browser?
I dont get similar quality as with stock cam. Its worse compared to it. Am i doing something wrong?

Hi,
Please see this pictures, is this the normal G2 quality ? I find it very poor I suspect a hardware probleme.
did you removed the film of camera?
Sur I did, and the camera is clean and with no scratchs, can you post some pics taken with yours.
Here is one taken with my D802:

I find that your picture is by far better than mines, I don't know what is the problem, this phone wasn't new (refurbished), maybe they have put a non original camera ? what to do now ?
Try downloading a different camera app and see if it is any better.
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
My camera has inconsistencies (blur in areas), camera is always going out of focus and in frequently, the image is quite often warping (noticeable when recording).
I use Mi2raw now.

They seem fine to me. You could download and install CamSpeed. It's a Camera Peformance benchmarking application. Yes usually benchmarking applications are laughed at but if you're having doubts, why not try it and compare with other G2's?
If you're still not satisfied, download and install XCam and use that instead of the LG Cam.
with camspeed, I get a rank of 411 and score of 412, it seem poor compared to other devices with 2000+ rank.
I already use xcam, it give better performances but still not good enought.
Can someones please run this test and tell us there score ?

your first picture appears to have been taken through the windshield of a car. Anti-reflective/glare coatings on the windshield as well as road grime will cause your pictures to look bad. Also looks like there is some reflection from the dashboard as well.
The second picture looks ok. I see a blurry spot in the lower left that may be due to motion.
Is your phone in a case with a plastic cover in front of the lens?
I have been using x-cam on my VS980 and get very good results.
David
So in this video I used a tripod which took some amazing video. But I also took 4k video while driving (I was not driving) and the camera did a good job at keeping a still video. There was still a lot of movement but it shows less in the video then there actually was. I captured mainly movement to see how the camera could keep up with it.
You can watch the video here:

I thought that the OIS actually takes over solo. The software optimization for it does not work but the actual hardware OIS works in that modeZ? maybe im wrong

I took about 10 minutes in total of video. Had battery saver off and used the phone to the max that whole day. Came out with about 4 hours of on screen time. Brightness at about 40%.

Correct, OIS is always on regardless, but EIS disables with 4K and 60fps modes.
Ois is always on guys it's a hardware not a software only the software stabilization doesn't work.... ois always on and u can see the lens move as soon as u begin recording

I noticed it was kicking in when I was in the car. Seemed move steady then what I thought it should be. The road was a bit more bumpy than it looked.
wow. Its good.
