Hi Guys
My Moto G4 Plus is unable to play any sounds at all. I'm pretty sure it's some software problem since there are rare moments where I can listen to some music/watch youtube videos, phone... but mostly these things just don't work. The music fast forwards through the tracks then stops and crashes, youtube doesn't show any videos, etc...
This seems to be a common issue with this device (far too common in my opinion) and I already tried the steps from the motorola forum, such as deleting cache. After even a hard reset didn't work they advised me to use my warranty to solve this software error. But the seller doesn't accept it because it has some cracks.
Meanwhile I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, rooted the device and flashed the custom rom 'lineage' onto my device but still no sound at all.
What could I do further? Hope this is the right place to ask

Reflash stock rom and if still doesn't work then may be hardware issue. You can use fastboot method or TWRP flashing with Revivor, CreamPie, or Totally Stock by DroidphilEV.

Situation
Bought Nexus 4 refurbished, works great except for this issue. Back speaker works great, Google Search works with mic (Ok Google). Updated via OTA all the way to 5.0. Am using phone on a carrier in Ecuador.
Problem
When making a phone call over the local carrier, call connects (you can see the counter on screen), music, if playing, pauses as it should. But no audio from the earpiece, and the other side does not hear anything from my side. Tried putting call on speaker, nothing. Tried with headphones, nothing. However, when making a Hangouts call over data, mic/earpiece work fine. To me, this means the hardware functions, so it must be software related. The phone sends SMS without issue, so it works with the local carrier. Also data works without any issue.
What I've done so far
Searched high and low, and it seems this is a somewhat common problem that some have fixed in many different ways. Please let me know if you know of another that I may have missed.
Downgrading to 4.4.4
Upgrading back to 5.0
Factory Reset
Flash 5.0 Factory image
Upgrade to 5.0.1
Flash complete 5.0.1 Factory image
Flashed latest CM11 nightly
Tried several "solutions" found on Google Group forum, such as pluging headphones in and out
Flashed Hybrid modem with included audio fix
Switched SIM cards
Installed SoundAbout, and tried many different options - redirecting Phone Audio, even changing options for Headset detection (thought the phone was confused, thinking the headphones were in)
Tested mic with recording apps and by recording videos, all work fine.
Installed PAC-ROM without Gapps to see if it was the Google Play Services issue
Disabled the CheckInService
I think I've tried more, but can't remember them all. It's been over a week, and can't answer or make phone calls.
Coming to my wits end, and it's extremely frustrating since it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, and I hate giving up on something I can fix. Any suggestions?
(Edited and added a couple more tests to the list)
yep, you are not the only one with this issue, it started to plague users just recently, including me and from what i've learned so far it has got something to do with google play services.
however for me, flashing 5.0/5.0.1 resolved it (i only encountered it on CM4.4.4 )
here is another topic bout this. good luck

ps. this thread i linked above acutally contains some solution/workaround involving disabling one of the google play services. just read through the whole thread
If this is really about Google Services, try installing a ROM without adding GApps. You can then state if they are really the culprit here.
I too had the exact same problem. I was on CM 4.4.4 nightlies. Moving to stock lollipop5.0 solved the problem.

I tried that too. I installed PAC-ROM, the latest nightly, without GAPPS. Booted fine, all seems to be working except sound in calls.
I also tried disabling the CheckIn Service, as was mentioned in the other thread, still no luck. So frustrating!!
I'll try them all again...
HijoProdigo,
+1 on flashing a 5.0 ROM.
Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks back. After messing with the phone for three days, flashing a Lollipop ROM solved the issue (I used CM12 unofficial nightlies)

I'll give it a try. I had tried with the official CM11, both with and without Gapps, but no luck.
Hi, ever since I got my G928T I've been having an extremely strange problem where video and audio will not play (regardless of source). This means nothing out of the speakers , and in the case of YouTube, the video being frozen on the first frame.
I've done a factory firmware reset through Kies, and am now rooted running the new custom kernel released a few days ago. I also converted /system, /data, and /cache to f2fs.
However, regardless of what I do, the problem persists.
The only way I've been able to do anything about this problem is by placing a phone call and then ending it. I have no idea why, but this will always fix the audio and sometimes the video for a short period of time.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? The times when the phone call doesn't fix it are extremely annoying; I practically run my life on my phone and the inability to play media isn't a good thing.
Thanks!
A little more detail with the calling: every single time I want to play a different YouTube video, I have to open the dialer, place a call, and go back to YouTube for the video go begin playback.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm still trying to find a solutuon!
I dont know i mean trying to find the answer does anyone know this plz give the answer ok
Furthermore, this issue isn't solely audio and video, it's every single sound throughout the OS (including keyboard clicks and tap sounds).
Very odd, I really don't know what to do :/
MAY HAVE FOUND A FIX!! I disabled AdaptSound and SoundAlive with Titanium Backup and I've yet to experience any issues.
This may be what we need!
Let me know if it works for you guys!
I also installed Viper4Audio, and used force enable for the super high audio quality driver.
EDIT: Does not seem to always work; instances of failure have still ocurred
They do, however, seem to be somewhat less frequent...
Good luck everyone!
So a bit more info: ever since installing Viper and disabling said apps via Titanium Backup, I find that most of the time I simply need to press the lock button when the song audio/video isn't working and that'll fix it. I have no idea why turning the screen off would make the phone to play the sound, but that's where I'm at now..
After flashing viper4android, the speakers are unable to produce sound of any sort. I tried flashing the factory image, and uninstalling the viper driver, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
I have the same problem. I can only get sound/video when headphones are plugged in. This happened to me right after installing V4A, I've been frantically searching and haven't found a solution yet.
Edit: Unrooting and flashing stock worked for me. Hope it works for everyone else!
i had the same problem this morning, i went back to stock and no luck, reflash pure nexus and vendor and still no sound at all, i wasn"t able to call, watch youtube videos, play music, not even able to take pictures and videos. ..
i call costumer service and they told me it was a hardware issue , so they send me a new phone,
Same here, getting the phone replaced by google.
Hey guys! I am not able to listen to music or open youtube videos or even do anything related to output of audio of my phone. On Google play music, I get "Couldnt pay tax requested" and on youtube I get playback error. I am not able to make calls as well.
I have flashed numerous images and the issue still persists. If anyone could guide me towards the right direction that would be great.
I bought the phone 7 months ago and suddenly this incident took place. I was running stock 7.1.2 when this happened by the way
Thank you for the help.
First of all, 7.1.2 is a Beta stage not a release.
Second, If you can have sounds on other options such as ringtones and so on, then it is an OS issue and a clean flash might solve it.

Thank you for the reply.
No sound from Ringtone as well. Like no audio is playing on my phone at the moment.

So how can you tell if it isn't a hardware issue and not Android problem?
I haven't heard of what you are describing as being a known bug in 7.1.2. You can try a factory restore but personally I would do a clean flash of the latest stable Google image and see if it fixes your problem. And I would use the flash-all.bat command like Google suggests rather than flash all the parts individually like the Heisenberg guide on XDA tells you to do. I don't suppose you are running any audio mods on your phone? And you checked the obvious? Your phone isn't in Airplane Mode, Do Not Disturb isn't activated, sound shows the various volume levels aren't at 0?
Having same issue, no audio at all from speakers, cant play youtube / googleplay music or videos, headphone jack does not work eighter, wont even detect the headphones, soft reset/ hard reset wont work, havent tryed out rooting and changing rom or reverting from 8.0 (currently running), apart form audio everything works fine, im still trying to figure out warranty as its still in its period, but without proof of purchase they are beeing jerks so far, so im rooted with some ideas is ive had previous experiences with phones, might it be possible for audio drivers to go missing or messed up? or should i take it to a repair shop and see how much theyll ask for it? or shuld i just upgrade to something better and let this brave hero die alone, maybe use as hotspot in my car haha
Hello.
My friend got a nexus 6p one year ago. One month ago he started to have problem. He was on stock rom
-First when he pressed the touch screen he heard small weird noises (hard to describe)
Then progressively :
-Speaker stopped working
-he could not play youtube video in you tube app : a weird error message (every time different) appeared. Gallery videos don't work as well
-But weirdly enough video played in the web browser including youtube videos, works, still without sound.
-He cannot make calls
-Jack plug doesn't works either, but he can use his Bluetooth headphones
We tried to install a custom rom (lineage os). We succeeded, but the above problem appeared again.
Then we flashed the factory image https://developers.google.com/android/images for nexus 6p. We also succeed but the above problem appeared again.
Thanks in advance for your help

The 6P has two speakers, and they wouldn't both fail at the same time. Sounds like he's damaged the phone somehow. The audio jack and speaker output both not working seem to back this up. I've seen the headphone jack part available separately, and there are guides available to replace it. Before flagging it as a hardware issue and opening the phone up, you want to make sure you wiped the phone completely by formatting the partitions (system, userdata, cache) and use the flash-all.bat included with the full Google image. There is a remote chance it is software related, but I doubt it.
You could always flash a custom kernel, use a kernel manager app to turn off the large core cpu and see if the problems go away. If they do its related to the build problem that causes the 6P to boot loop but those particular symptoms aren't familiar. It's still worth a try if flashing the stock image doesn't fix the problem.

Yes. You can always turn it back on but turning it off apparently fixes the permanent boot loop problem on the Nexus 6P. If the problems you are describing are related to the same build problem then turning it off might make them go away. Sometimes people's phones would start acting odd before going into the permanent bootloop. That phone could be on its way there.
this is purely a guess but the problem may be hardware related with the headphone jack. it could have a physical short somewhere. if thats the case the device may think a headphone jack is being used and wont play through speakers because its being told its plugged in. But wont play because of some physical short or an open.
