All,
Hoping to call on your expertise...
My XDA IIi recently crashed and stayed that way probably about an hour before I spotted it, soft reset didn't work so I removed the battery. Bad idea.
From what I can gather numerous programs still running in background had actually worn down the battery. Not knowing this I removed the battery to reset the device. Un be known to me at the time, the backup battery was faulty and not holding a charge and the unit affectively did a hard reset.
so now I've lost all my data on the device. I note from reading other posts this generally means your screwed and the data is gone with the underlying message to backup device regularly.
However speaking to UK firms like ontrack data recovery for a fee they claim to be able to recovery data from your device and I don't mean the areas referred to as 'storage' and 'storage card'.
How come they can do it, yet no tools exist for the consumer? It sounded from other posts that it was technically impossible, yet for £300 they seem pretty confident.
Am I missing something?
Any help appreciated... lost some pictures and video of my baby boy, born just a few days ago...
Thanks,
PPCDude
as far as i know you cant recover the data any more then you can recover the stuff in your ram on your pc if you close it without saving
sdram will loose the data if it loose power
unlike flash and hd's where even if you delete data it's still there
untill the sectors the data was on is later overwritten with new data
Geetings,
A while ago my device had a hardware defect (most probably defected VGA / http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794925), back at my home country the device's board was replaced by a new one.
As expected I lost all the data since the internal memory is built-in (I think so).
Here come the important question, If I bought back the original board from the service store, can I recover any data from the Internal memory? even though I was able to access the recovery mode when it was bricked, but didn't want to trip the knox chip so I lose the warranty.
Best regards,

Hello community!
I have the following problem with my S4 VE: It just won't accept my SD card anymore. My desktop PC reads it well, and so do other phones (tried it on a Galaxy S5). To be sure, i formatted the card again, no change. So I started to look for other issues, starting with software. I wiped my device and even flashed a new ROM, with no effect.
So I bought another card reader and installed it. But it just won't recognize it!
What other components could be involved? Keep in mind that only the SD card doesn't work, SIM does, although it occasionally gets "removed".
My next step would be to bathe the entire mainboard in isopropyl so it gets cleaned thoroughly. If that doesn't help, I'll have to buy a phone with a broken display and use its parts.
The SIM card removing itself is a classic indicator of a motherboard failure, so I wouldn't even bother with the isopropyl bath and head straight to buying the phone with the broken display and using its parts.
Just be sure the broken phone is the same model number as your failing device.
Thanks! Seemed like it. Is this a typical issue of the Galaxy S4?
I went for a I9505 instead of the 9515 so I could have decent customization options, starting with Custom ROMs as the display and touchscreen module (not controller) are the same. Works like a charm!
Smart move going with an I9505.
That problem isn't all that common compared to the other SIM card issue, where the SIM card tray itself fails and not the motherboard (characterized by the SIM card not being recognized when you next reboot rather than a spontaneous removal of the card), but it does happen more than it should.
So I've got my SM-G530P all rooted and everything just so, and it works great, zero issues, except for one thing. Upon cycling the power ( either power off or restart) the phone loses my micro sd card (I've tried 3 different brands...ADATA, PNY, and Sandisk.....all 32gb, all UHS-3). now I can go in and mount it again, and it works fine. it tells me it is damaged, forces format, and then it works perfectly till power cycle. I've tested all the micro sd cards in my PC, and I have tried to see if I could get the same results in my NVidia shield.......and I have not. Two of the sdcards are new, and the other is low mileage. so if it isn't the memory cards, it has to be the phone, right? the cards fit snuggly in the expansion slot, and they all work fine and dandy in any device..........even my grand prime, until I cycle the power on it, upon boot, it does not show the sd card in the storage manager, but when I hit mount, it says it is damaged, and makes me format the card.....and after that, works fine until power cycle.... Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info I will do all I can to provide it. As XDA is really the only place for legit and concise mobile device info, I figured this was the place to turn to.

one last bump
i dont wanna be "that guy" who bumps his own thread, but i could use some help.
So yeah my s8 was soft bricked from storage being too full, I was able to check the size and the device only has 500kb, Would chip-off recover the internal storage data?
I think i also had a power IC failure or my galaxy note 2 e-mmc chip was overheated from my storage being too full as well. I have yet to give it to a reliable company to get all data off it
