Hi guys, I got my LG G2 a few months ago and it was my first android phone. Since I always jailbroke my apple devices I decided to root my lg g2. Everything worked fine until last week when I was prompted to install a software update. I thought this might mess up the phone since it was rooted so I postponed it until later in the day to give me time to research, but I forgot to postpone the update again and it went through at the scheduled time. Now when I turn my phone on, the lg logo is displayed, and then I get a boot certification verify error. I don't really know what that means but I can't do anything, no recovery, no download mode. I started to follow this tutorial but am stuck at what files to download. I do not know if I have the 10b, 11a, or 12b variant, and I can't find a way to check it without turning the phone on, which I can't do. I'm really lost at what to do at this point, I can't follow the only guide that might fix my phone. Is there another way to solve this issue or find which variant I have? Would verizon accept it back to fix or replace it since it's been rooted? I've read some people saying they unrooted their phone and then returned it to the carrier, is it possible to do that in my situation? I really need some help guys.
TBH: I would call Verizon, and tell them the phone was bricked by the update- hope they don't notice it was rooted when they warranty it. Problem is, if they do you get charged full amount for phone. I'd consider if you have insurance to just claim it on insurance.
try download lg support tool from lg website http://www.lg.com/uk/support/software-manuals
plug the device and wait for the software to recognize ur version.
I downloaded and installed it, but it won't recognize by phone. I have installed the drivers for it
ok.
try to follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681089
and the files download from here:http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/VS980/Stock_Firmware/10B_Partitions
lets try this virsion and see what happend..
download the 10B zip file and the dll file too http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/VS980/Stock_Firmware
now it doesn't boot at all, not even to the lg logo. Additionally the partitions don't show up in ubuntu any more. I guess i'm completely screwed now?
Hi, I followed the DirtySanta tutorial, used the US996 DeODEXed Rom. I knew this was a possibility but thought that I could get back to stock using the KDZ, unfortunately my phone is now seen as US996. I've tried modifying both the build.prop, and KDZ but I still can't get LGUP to flash back to stock. Is there anything I can do?
Service Unavailable is probably due the frequency signal issue.
Remember that Wind runs in AWS bands, while the US996 runs on regular bands (Bell, Rogers, Telus)
I'm sure the phone works fine if you use a Rogers SIM on it.
so, the trouble / solution is figuring out how to flash back the Tmobile / Wind modem back into the phone.
also set the phone to use the proper AWS bands 1700 / 2100, or the new LTE band 66

T-Mobile H918 supports LTE Band 66, try and flash a H918 ROM maybe? Or access the hidden menu and enable AWS, but you'll lose LTE and only have 4G that way.
See here to access the hidden menu but change 915 in the command to 996 or the model the phone is showing as.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/access-hidden-menu-h915-t3515098
Edit: Let me know if it works, and you get LTE back (not just 4G) I really want to know to root my H915 as well. You used the [LS997|VS995|H910|F800L] DirtySanta Bootloader unlock and Root guide by me2151, right?
Second edit: If you're going to try to flash an H918 ROM I'd strongly suggest you flash an H918 kernel that is suggested in the dirty santa thread, I think the Konverged is what people are using. No hard evidence either way flashing an H918 ROM would work but it may not as the boot image is a 996.
Thanks guys. I flashed the Konverged kernel earlier, it helped crash-wise but nothing on the signal end. Last night I extracted the files from the H91510e kdz and tried to flash the modem that was included but that hasn't helped, I want to try the CDMATool but it isn't recognising my account so I'll wait for a bit. I tried to use the hidden menu but it doesn't seem to do work on this firmware unfortunately.

Try this, make sure USB Debugging is enabled. Turn off phone. Remove the battery. Put battery back in. Hold the volume up button and plug in USB cable. It may boot into download mode or it may boot into the dirty santa corrupt screen. If it does boot into the corrupt screen , let go of up button, press the power button then IMMEDIATELY press the volume up button. Either way you should be in download mode. You want download mode, not fastboot. Make sure LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.1.1.exe drivers are installed.
Download LG Support Tool. http://www.mylgphones.com/lg-software-tools-download the 'Download and install LGMobileSupportTool.exe' link. Install and run it. If you've already installed the drivers hit cancel when they go to install.
Then go to 'Options' 'Upgrade Recovery' Make sure you have the IMEI number from under the battery and put it in no dashes or spaces. It should download and install the firmware if you've done the tap 'About Phone' 'Developer Options' 'Enable USB Debugging' but I'm sure you know this.
If all goes well you should be back on stock firmware.
Hope it works, it should but I'm not 100% sure.
The good news is that it recognized my phone as H915, but unfortunately half way through the setup it through a weird error. Part of me is thinking of restoring my twrp backup and trying uppercut again. I'm hoping that will get the program to see my phone correctly.
EDIT: I tried the KDZ installer again, without trying to restore the TWRP backup and my phone is back to stock and getting a signal. Thanks again to the both of you.

What I suggested worked without the TWRP backup? Or another way?
your best bet is to somehow find a way to install the stock rom through TWRP then you can install the KDZ. Cause I had the same issue as you, i have a Verizon V20 with the US996 rom and it wouldnt let me flash the verizon KDZ until I installed NotSoStock rom thats based on the Stock Verizon Rom
EDIT: Just saw you got back to Stock. Disregard this lol

I didn't use the TWRP backup at all in the end. Your method didn't fully install, but it made the phone see itself as an H915 again which allowed uppercut/LGUP to install the KDZ so it was a big help
Congrats! on the recovery, this is a good reference thread for anyone trying to recover from a bad root, and needs to get back to stock.

Are you saying you have a rooted 915 with everything working?
guess not lol
I am having the same issue with an h910, but the service only works sometimes. Many times it is searching (and draining the battery in the process), but sometimes it will get service and be OK. Quite frustrating, and no way to revert because no kdz available. Anyone else with h910 having this problem?
Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm off topic here or not. I have an LG V20 H910-10c (Nougat 7.0) and I am having an issue with a Service not working after using DirtySanta to Root my phone and I am praying that someone can help me out with. I have already tried a Factory Wipe/Reset and Wipe Dalvik/ART & Cache and have Formatted Data to remove Encryption, etc..
Timeline: The phone worked fine in all aspects before Rooting it.
After Rooting it, I had this issue.
I then tried a Factory Reset and got stuck in a TWRP Bootloop.
I fixed the Bootloop issue with a Reset (Yes then Yes).
The issue is still there.
ISSUE: When I boot into Android, I get the following message;
"LGSmartcardService has stopped"
.....and I cannot use my External SD Card (TWRP sees it fine, I Flashed SuperSU from it).
I have Googled my brains out and simply cannot find any suggestions, except to perform a Factory Reset, which I did and that's what put me into the Bootloop and I reset the way you said and now it boots up okay, except that error message is still there.
I have not put any apps on the phone or anything. It's factory fresh (except for Rooting it).
I hope I'm not violating any rules by posting this, but the page I used to Root it has a REAL SMALL downloadable file called "V20-Root.zip" that contains everything, including the Batch files with the steps that they perform in them. I did NOT use the ROM, as that's ONLY for Sprint users and my phone is an AT&T model (Unlocked and my Carrier is MetroPCS). But I put it here, just in case someone wishes to bless me by taking a look and seeing if there's something to note. I am not a coder by any means. I do understand some basics, but I couldn't see anything that would cause this sort of problem. I did NOT install the ROM listed, because it's for Sprint users ONLY and I have an AT&T (Unlocked, using MetroPCS) H910. Here's the link to the page:
https://tinyurl.com/yacdendm
I really need my Ext SD Card to be seen! I use it extensively and it would be a real hindrance not to have it! Plus this is my ONLY phone (no landline) and I am disabled and must run everything, including my home network and laptop, etc. from it and I need its space for things I have to have available on my phone to do things that I need to do, so any help would be appreciated GREATLY!
I do need to be Rooted, so going back to factory with whatever Mpdel # ROM an LG Tool sees me as might make me unable to Root again.
Please Help Me and Thank You!
Dave
Hello,
I hope this post is not against the rules, but I believe I found out how to remove the Rent a Center tracking and locking software that I believe if from computrace that is installed on our devices. It acts like a root kit that automatically reinstalls itself and has a device administrator profile that you can not remove.
I think I figured out how to get rid of the RAC (rent a center) lock for good. The rac lock uses a system administrator profile along with a program called sec.abt that can not be removed or frozen. If you manage to uninstall it is just reinstalls itself. I was not able to find any information on how to remove this without using special hardware like an octopus box that costs hundreds of dollars.
I used LGUP with the uppercut modification (can be found here on XDA) along with the KDZ files from here https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-rs988-firmwares/
I was only able to find the USA RSS 11C firmware until I found the page linked above with the BPT 10D firmware. Whenever you flash the stock 11C USA firmware the RAC program comes back and once connected to the net will lock your device, however if you use LGUP and uppercut to flash the BPT 10D firmware using the upgrade option (refurbish will error out) I found that my device booted correctly and seemed to work, however I did not have any fastboot options and it said there were no updates available (you need fastboot to unlock the bootloader and the latest update grants that ability). I then reinstalled the USA 11C firmware and to my delight found that the RAC software and device administrator profile were gone.
I then checked for updates and it started download the latest update. I believe I will not have a problem unlocking the bootloader and rooting from this point on. I'll let you guys know if anything changes.
I'm only posting this because I have been sitting on a RAC locked phone for months that got locked over six months after I bought it used and really hope this can help someone else that got screwed over.
Bought my phone almost a year ago off ebay woke up yesterday to this RAC device lock. This worked for me thanks.
Well done..
This happened to me after buying a device off of ebay.. thankfully RAC lock happened within a couple of days and I was able to use the ebay return policy.. I'm gonna pass this on to the dude who sold it to me as he got conned as well.. I verified the original RAC owner with RAC.. the device was purchased in Puerto Rico..
Cheers!
I'm trying to do same with V20 (us996) , but there is only one firmware avaliable :| no older or newer firmwares
Nothing seemed to happened after I tried to flash back to stock using either file. Do you know what I might have done wrong?
EDIT: It works now. Not sure what happened buy after my 7th attempt, the flash went smoothly and I was able to follows inaudible101 instruction to remove RAC lock. Thanks for the help!

If you go into safe mode you can turn on USB debug as well as enable OEM unlock. You can normally get into safe mode by holding power button like your going to shut it off only hold the power off till a screen pops up. Select turn on and phone will reboot into safe mode.
I am using LG V20 F800K, Android Nougat, rooted with DirtySanta. I am following this guide to root on Android Oreo.
However, when I used LGUP Patched here, I encountered the error "DLL for F800K10e is invalid. Please, install valid DLL package (*. msi). for the model." (see attached image).
Please show me how to fix this error?
Also, @xcl0udx, I want to ask: At step 4, when connecting my phone to the computer, does my phone need to turn off and go to Download Mode? Or still turn on, in the main screen?
Thank you very much.

I have also encountered this error, the way to fix it is to carefully examine the USB cable and use LGUP Dual Mode (can be found on Google).
Dual model lg up doesn't give this error?

Hi
Thanks a ton for saving me from the mental pain, I was in. I also have the F800K as yours and I had upgraded to pie but it was torture to the phone. When newly installed, it was smooth on phone but had a noticeable lag but after few months of use and plenty of upgrades (play store services, apps & other stuff) it had become very painful to use and not to mention the horrible battery life due to OS using a lot of resources. Previously I had an even worse experience with oreo and pie was a bit better than oreo but I wanted to come back to nougat so direly.
The normal way of using LG UP (with & without uppercut) didn't work. I used the LG UP dual-mode as you mentioned and it worked. I did a step by step downgrade, from pie to oreo and then to nougat. Everything worked fine and now I have a perfectly smooth phone. Thanks to you.
OK so I need some help...
When I originally purchased my LG G6 in June of 2019, I made sure it was a US997 model, but I ended up getting a BRIGHTPOINT version during my purchase. I went through the website to check the imei and the device ID and it gave me the not unlockable status.
After that, I went and decided to update the software manually to US99721e since it wouldn't OTA it and have been on that ever since. Now, I just recently tried while on the 21e software and I was given an unlock.bin code!
So if someone could help me out:
IF you're on a US997 BRIGHTPOINT G6:
-Download LG UP and UpperCut
-Download US997_21e_01_0211-UCL.kdz at lg-firmwares.com (this is the one I'm on, try this one first!)
-Once it's done, enable developer mode, adb debugging, and OEM unlock
-Go through the unlocking process
Please let me know what you find out!!
Is that only for us cellular?
Sent from my V60 ThinQ using XDA Labs
I have a brightpoint LG G6, which I bought as the seller claimed it was an unlocked US997, failing to share it was a OEM phone. I don't understand how this works please can you clarify? I tried the unlocking process and I have to supply my phone information to LG. Their database says it is a brightwell phone and so they won't release the unlock. Are you saying that after installing this ROM I don't need the key from LG to unlock the bootloader?
I have installed Uppercut and LGUP (1.14 as newer versions don't seem to work). I downloaded the ROM and I have the LGUP loaded. It shows the phone using US99721a. I have 4 process options, Refurbish, Upgrade, FOTA upgrade or Phonesettings which is the one to use?
It works! At least I obtained an unlock.bin file from LG. I need to work out which is the best LG G6 US997 ROM and how to load it when my SD card doesn't work. Any help or pointers to useful information much appreciated. For anyone else trying this here is what I found. I downloaded the LG windows drivers and LGUP 1.14 (There are newer versions but these don't work with uppercut. I downloaded Uppercut from XDA website and then you run Uppercut not LGUP. This immediately caused my virus checked to block it as it contains a trojan. I didn't like that but googled to find others had the same issue. There seems to be a way to load the correct file to get LGUP to work directly and I would recommend researching that but I disabled the virus software and proceeded. I used the UPGRADE option in LGUP - you need to reboot your phone into download mode. To do so, disconnect USB cable then Power off the phone completely. Now hold Volume Up then plug in USB cable at the same time. Make sure that LGUP is NOT running when you connect the USB cable and start it once you are in download mode. It loads the ROM very quickly and takes a bit longer to reboot and then it needs time to upgrade android as you have a 6 months newer version of Android 8. Then follow direction on the LG unlock site https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev. You will need to install ADK https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools unzip after you download. LG emailed my unlock code immediately.
Yes, I can confirm that it works with the US997 model now. I already was at version US99721e so I didn't have to jump through the hoops to load this version. I went through the steps to unlock the bootloader via the LG developer website and voila, got sent the unlock.bin file, too.
Now I am pretty sure that I tried that in past perhaps 1-2 years ago and it didn't work, so perhaps LG has secretly flipped a few bits in their database to allow unlocking for these not quite brand new devices.
I just applied the unlock.bin and got the "cannot check for corruption" warning on the boot screen. So this is working - fantastic!
Now have to restore my device from the LG Backup I made before and put on the SD card.
I had tried the unlock last year but I didn't retry before I updated so it may have worked anyway and the update of the ROM wasn't needed. I unlocked the phone and installed Sky Hawk recovery but when that starts it asks for a deception password and nothing I have tried works. I'm not sure if that is a real issue or I can continue safely with flashing a new ROM. Has anyone worked through this issue?

First, when you're in Adroid remove all screen lock mechanisms, you can re-enable it later.
Enable USB debugging, do adb reboot bootloader and fastboot flash recovery with this recovery instead (rel_o2):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-unofficial-fixes-t3722199
Do the button combo to launch recovery. If you're in recovery, first reformat /data (you have to enter "yes") to get rid of encrption and after that flash the anti-root removal tool mentioned in the post. Then reboot into recovery and then flash Magisk and/or your ROM of choice. Note that I have only used this with stock ROM and Magisk and not tried any custom ROMs, but the thread has plenty of people having also tried other ROMs.
How do you even know if you have a Brightpoint device?
I found out when I tried to unlock. http://mobile.developer.lge.com/
Thanks for the info. I'll dig into this once I know for sure that a version of Android 10 is available to load into the phone.
What I've been dealing with so far keeps asking for a 15 digit IMEI number. My phone only has a 14 digit value.
I pulled box (yes I kept it) and discovered that the IMEI is 15 digits. No idea why the value is the phone truncates the last digit. The site that checks IMEI numbers says that it is the platinum edition: US997PL. Gee, the box says that.
