Hi there people,
GPS! It works great with the stock rom like everything else but I want Apps2SD, Live Wallpapers, Overclocking and Higher Res so what shall we do?
I've tried the custom roms available, Touch screen didn't work on CM, Puzzle's GPS is way off so makes some of androids greatest features useless.
I see so many satisfied people out there, please advise me...
I need GPS to work and I would like Apps2SD and overclocking... I feel like I'm missing out a little.
So anyone else on the same page as me? Any advise from others? Thanks!

try cyanogenmod, only problem i have so far is some apps layout aren't proper, like the default phone dialer, but there are alternatives.
I'm interested in the feedback here as well. All of the modded ROM's are way off what I'd like my Wildfire to be.
i agree kevin2516, try cyanogenmod, i tried the wildpuzzle and openfire before but had only problems with gps and show me the wrong position. it was always 10-15m away from my real position but with cyanogenmod it work properly. only the first fix for your position takes about 1-2 Minuten, but only the first time.

Try flashing the V4 kernal when you flashing CM on that should fix the touchscreen problems.

Hi thanks for all responses. I tried CM and got it working, I was impressed at first but the real test was everyday usage. I love listening to mp3s and browsing web at the same time, unfortunately the performance went stupid when trying to multitask, listening to mp3s and playing with the phone was no where near fast enough, infact terrible and crashing.
I did already set the cpu to a good range. I ended up going back to stock rom, which is just as good as I need. If there was a way to get stock rom onto Apps to ext and overclocked it would be cool.
Peace

I know that... i was telling him about the current bug
Ok so this isn't a real question about rooting but more of a "don't fix whats not broken" but not sure if it will damage/improve anything.
Basically, I love my phone the way it is.. battery life is much better than my brothers but I want to root and add some features like different launchers or different camera .apks. My question is, if I root to be able to do those things, will I lose my awesome batter life?
No you will not, you can only gain with root. Pretty much think of root as changing a few files and permissions, that's it. It won't affect you at all, period.
I would definitely do it! You will feel good you did after it works and you know that you rooted your phone. These things are as tough as nails. It is virtually impossible to brick, but not saying you can't. DO IT! You can then install custom roms that will Undervolt your phone and Overclock it. Doing so has probably doubled my battery life. Then you can install One Click Lag Fix. You think it is good now, after doing at least One Click Lag Fix you won't go back.
I would also suggest looking One Click Lag Fix up in the market and rooting that way, then doing the lag fix. Easiest app out there to do it for you. Then download ROM Manager, flash the recovery, and you are set.
Now what are you waiting for?!

Short answer... NO
All rooting is is giving yuo access to system areas and files you dont have by default. All it changes is what your allowed to do nothing else.
Im the same way. I was worried about doing it and it can mess up your phone if your not carefull. I dont have a real good understanding and adding new roms and kernals so i stay away from that. So i just do the easy things like the lag fix and changing the way the notification bar lookz.

Is your phone hardware locked? Also a good rule is BEFORE you do anything do a BACKUP
Hello everyone.
I just gave my beloved HD2 after almost 2 years and decided to move on to Galaxy s2.
What i would like to ask is:
What do you suggest to do on my sgs2?
I mean things like rooting and overclocking, apps and tweaks?
Everything is welcome.
Thanks !

Welcome mate i too am coming from a HD2, it was a superb phone and served me well for a year and a half but the GS2 is unbeatable
I would definitely root your phone, there is so much you CANT DO if you don't, it's entirely up to you if you flash a custom ROM as the stock ROM is good but personally i run Cognition 1.15 and this is definitely one of the best there is for the GS2, do a search on this forum for tips and tricks, superior battery life can be achieved if you follow a few tips given, set CPU is recommended but not totally required, calibrate your battery and download some apps like Battery Monitor, juice defender plus, system panel, CPU spy, root explorer, titanium backup most are paid apps but well worth getting especially Titanium backup and root explorer.
If you've any more questions ask away people on here generally are friendly and helpful.
Lol was something i was going to ask.also just got my s2 & also just come from my hd2.loving the speed of this machine and not customized it yet.

rooting it would be a good idea,,if u want to do stuff besides normal....and there is no need to overclock,,,,i dont think there is anything on android that this beast cant handle(1.2 Ghz dual core is more than enough for now),,people are under clocking this device to get better battery life,,,As for apps,it depends upon ur usage(if u r into ebook reading, download ezpdf reader,,if u r into mobile gaming,go to the gameloft website for hd games or market for normal ones,,etc,etc)....and for tweaks ,just search this forium,,u ll find a lot of useful stuff,,,
Godspeed.
Thanks for your replies guys!
Till now i have installed:
adobe reader
alarm clock plus
angry birds
antennas
antivirus
apps2sd (like i'm going to use it... uninstalled!)
battery monitor widget pro
beautiful widgets
compass
electrodroid
equalizer
es file explorer
flashlight alerts
gps status
gps test
greek eortologio (widget rocks)
launcher pro plus (looooooove it)
minimalistic text
miren browser
moboplayer (kinda reminds me of KMplayer)
network info II
phoneUsage (rocks too!)
phono
photoshop express
quick settings
quick pic
ringdroid
root check 2.8 (and it says that i dont have root )
smart keyboard pro
task manager
unistaller
winamp
x construct (my favourite)
I checked the forum and i couldnt find a step-by-step guide to root the sgs2 (woa! i feel like the first time i flashed a custom WM rom on my hd2! )
Could someone please point a guide?
Thanks again!
Once you root, I suggest you install these Root enabled apps:
1. MarketEnabler
2. Adfree
3. Root Explorer
4. Titanium Backup
Also these non-root apps are great:
ZDbox
1Password
iSyncr (to properly copy music including all ID3 tags)
MediaFix (incase any tags are still shown as "unknown")
I have many of those apps too.
Search mate there are a few different threads on rooting here is one.

What will i gain by rooting the phone?
I dont know the difference. The android roms i had on my HD2 were already rooted
You gain a roted phone and can choose your rom use rooted apps etc .
Or choose a custom rom from dev section with inbuilt root .
jje
Can i use chainfire3D on sgs2 or it causes problems on stock android?
rooting for sure since its easy. overclock not really needed, its so fast anyway
Ok fellas!
I decided to root my stock SGS2 and flash a custom rom.
Any suggestions ? Which roms are you using?
Recommend some please!
Don't worry mate whatever you do, this thread will probably get closed for being in the GENERAL section

Hi all ,
Bought my Arc two months ago and loving it , however I’m little bit annoyed with its sluggishness. Whenever I exit any APP like email, games etc. APPs in desktop isn’t not appearing promptly and scrolling to other pages becomes literally very slow and sometimes freeze for a while! I occasionally can’t answer incoming calls, I keep sliding to answer but no response . I’m not quite sure what could be the reason.. although I’m not using any task killers apps, and my Arc is NOT rooted. And I always make sure that before installing any APP it is compatible with SE Xperia Arc and from Android Market!
I’d appreciate any help guys, is there anybody facing the same ? is it a manufacturer flaw ? is there a fix for my problem ?
I’m using Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Thanks in advance
No idea, mine flies...
How much free memory?
I have the neo which is pretty similar phone, I had a issue mush like yours 2 days ago, so i checked to see what running in the services there was an app using 80 meg of memory which seemed alot so i removed the app and now its fine, it was this app https://market.android.com/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle&feature=search_result you may have this app or a different app thats doing something similar
Also suffering with this. Sometimes my phone will freeze going into dialler even when I have an app killer in the background.

Hi .. Thanks for the response
i notice the amount of free memory varies from 67 MB to 96 MB as max. could this be the root cause ?

You have to have good amount of RAM left. It's in the system, you can easy check this out.
And I personally don't recommend any background task killers.

My advice is get ur arc rooted, u will benefit much more from this. In addition, using Autokiller Memory Optimizations, it would serve ur sluggishness well

Actually, I suggest you make a back up of important stuff and then use SEUS to repair/reflash your phone.
A fresh phone might just solve your worries. Good luck with it.

There are many stuff u can do when u get ur fone rooted:
+ Remove the bloatware that I'm pretty sure consuming a lot of both memory and battery
+ ur able to use tweaked kernel (made by DoomLord & if2 atm) or software like Autokiller Memory Optimizations which can optimized ur phone running smoother & faster. Besides, there is kind of handy script for arc called v6 supercharger. it is reportedly working on arc so well (no sluggishness, no lag)
+ and so many more u can find out of ur own accord
By the way, my arc is running perfectly with normal use. it can easily run for at least 2 days without recharging battery and smoothy as well.

You require an unlocked bootloader for that.
You don't NEED an unlocked bootloader for root.

This is the problem here, your phone does not like iOS users.
Just kidding, any of the solutions above (rooting and removing unnecessary stuff or reflashing ) should solve your issues.
Good luck !
I used to have the same problem. Facebook Integration was the problem... I disabled the sync and removed the photos being synced with it. Also removed most of the widgets and the phone wasn't lagging as much as before. I ended up rooting...
Hey all....my gf has an xperia x 10 which has gone dramatically slow since the 2.3.3 upgrade...so I have adviced her to root it and rather go for a custom rom...i am a gs2 user myself....so dont have much idea about x10....can u guys tell me how is cynogenmod doing here...and provide link/review for that....thanks in advance...

+1 remove timescape and home screen widgets then uncap fps if you have root..
i don't recomend cynogen in the mean time cause of wifi issue ...and it has so simple style ...girls doesn't love that..... otherwise cynogen is an awesome mod ....
You should get the touch wiz mod, it's pretty cool. WB is okay too, but it's as said above^ about the cyanogen mod.
cm is the best rom here for speed...
get a different launcher if you want a diff style, thats all half of the roms here are anyway
the wifi will be fixed super soon I'm sure, you can use static ip right now and it works fine
