new security update... - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Has anyone upgraded to G935VVRU4BQF2, the new security update that came out yesterday?

I just downloaded it this morning but haven't installed it yet. That's the reason I logged on to XDA was to see if anyone had any info on it.

I don't know if it's because of this, but I installed the update last night and now my Wi-Fi calling isn't working. I've tried disabling and re-enabling, nothing.
Interestingly after taking a Verizon security update for my parents' V10s a cpl weeks ago they can't receive (but can still make) Wi-Fi calls.
edit: scratch that... idk what happened but after opening Tinder to tell a girl I can't txt or call all of a sudden txt msgs came in, I check and I can call

Well after any system update I always clear the main storage cache and restart after that. I have a UAV pilots forum app that I frequent, after the update the app wasn't holding my sign in but after I cleared the cache all is back to normal.

Since installing this update, the AOD sporadically doesn't seem to respond to ambient light levels. I put my phone on my Seneo wireless charger on my nightstand when I go to bed and will wake up in the middle of the night with the AOD blazing* at its highest brightness. Rebooting the phone fixes it for a while, but a few days later it's doing it again.
I haven't tried clearing the cache yet, though.
* Yes, "blazing" may be a bit of hyperbole, but I need a very dark room to sleep well at night

[Q] Apps auto updating without prompting

So as I'm checking my email from my phone a minute ago I notice that all of the sudden apps are auto updating. Assuming from Google Play. I absolutely never allow any auto updating because of crappy updates. And i backup app versions that are reviewed favorably usually. I quickly shut off my phone to stop any more updates. Before I did that I checked my Google Play options first and auto updating was not checked. I did update to the newest version of Google Play manually the other day. Was that my mistake? I'm somewhat afraid of turning the phone back on for fear of it auto-updating again. I have most good versions of apps backed up but not all. I don't know if this is related or not, but my phone was fully charged at 7:30am so I unplugged it. When I checked my phone at noon while not having used it one bit since 7:30, the phone had only 57% battery life left. Which has never happened before. Thanks to anybody that can shed light on this issue.

you probably did not to shut your phone off - just kill the data connection.
but not sure why the auto-updating was occurring.

It looks like when I updated to the new Google Play it may have auto checked the auto update selection. But even when I changed it back it continued to attempt to update. So I restarted the phone again and it still tried updating. So as quickly as I could, I cancelled each update manually. A real pain in the ass. I caught everything that I didn't have backed up. I did kill data and wifi before I figured it out. And then reverted back to old Google Play. Hope this never happens again.

Well, when you give the store permission to auto update, it just checks the box for each app to auto-update. If you install the new store again, disable auto-update in the main settings, then go to each app and uncheck the auto-update box on each app's main page. That should stop it.

Well that's the thing, I never gave it permission to begin with. Which was why it was baffling initially. Everything seems to be unchecked now though so hopefully I don't run into this again.

WiFi Automatically Turning On

I just took the latest T-Mobile update, and no matter what I do, the WiFi turns itself back on. I've tried powering it off and restarting phone, checked advanced for smart switch (or something), powering off wifi, clearing cache, checked program permissions. Everything I can think of. I'm losing my mind. Anyone with a similar issue?
Not on my T-mo S7 Edge.
In B4 the rest of the crew ... do a factory reset !
I really don't want to factory reset. I was hoping someone else has seen this and can help.

By any chance did you install Samsungs new user interface Good Lock? It could be that is what's turning it back on based on location.
It was the updated Google Now ( or just the search app) it asked for permission after the fact, I denied it and now it hasn't turned itself on... Will Update.
I lied. It is still doing it. Anyone with an idea, it even does it in airplane mode (just flew to Chicago)
I took New update, have alot disabled with package disabler and wifi is fine for me

Yeah after reading this. I turned mine off for a couple hours and it stayed off. Maybe an app causing this?
Sent from my SM-G935T using XDA-Developers mobile app
YES. I just did the update and my wifi is turning off/turning on by itself! wtf damnit.
tmobile s7 edge
Did anyone figure this out, massively annoying.
It happened to me. It may seem like the tmobike update but its not. How I fixed it is by uninstalling the last 3 or so apps that you installed, rebooting your phone, and it quit for me then I reinstalled one by one, watching behavior very closely. Also check advanced wifi settings to see if auto hotspot connect, always scan, etc is enabled.

It started doing it for me after I paired my new gear s2 to it... Anyone else in the same boat? Just trying to seee what our common denominator is.
Again, for those that are having these issues... do you have your t-mobile app installed?
My may seem like a silly question but on my girlfriends S6 there was an option called network manager or wifi manager (or something to that effect.)
As soon as she disabled that she didn't have that problem anymore. Worth a look.

Gmail notifications always come late

anyone have this problem? I have a feeling it's because of doze but even at that when I turn the phone on, nothing comes through until I actually open the app. anyone else have this?

I have an AT&T model, and yes, sometimes Gmail is received late. I've had people send me an email, and 10 minutes later nothing has happened. Then I open the Gmail app, and 5 messages suddenly show up. This is intermittent. Most of the time I don't see a delay.
weird. maybe it's just super aggressive doze.

I have the same issue. I have gone into the settings for the battery. Added Gmail to the ignore optimizations list. I don't know yet if that fixes the problem.
For what it's worth, I had exactly the same issue on my Note 7. I can't remember for certain, but I think I did something similar there to fix it. I may even have completely disabled battery optimization.
I'm experiencing the same issue. Even after ignoring battery optimization for Gmail. Sometimes it doesn't notify at all until I open the app, several hours after the emails arrived.
I have this exact same issue with Gmail and Kik (messenger). I wasn't aware that there was a battery optimization setting to ignore certain apps, so I'm going to give that a try later today.
Add me to this list too
Me too on V20 and my Note 4. Send and recieving sometimes hours later. Frustrating. Tried wiping caches, reinstalling and reflashing. I dont believe its my phones.
An update on how I got on. I added Gmail to the ignore optimizations list as I previously said. That didn't seem to resolve the issue. So I thought about what else might be used by the phone to process incoming email. I went through the list and I also added Google Services Framework. That seems to have worked and I'm waking up to a phone with pending notifications.
I have the same problems. Where is this battery optimization option located? I can't seem to find it.
Thank you
It's in settings, general, battery and power saving, battery usage, optimizations

New Verizon Software update G955USQU1AQDF (5/12/2017)

Software Version: NRD90M.G955USQU1AQDF
This software update brings you the shopping feature for Bixby Vision, improvements to the screen settings, and essential bug fixes.
Shopping made easy with Bixby Vision
Open the Camera app, point the camera at the item you want to buy and tap the Bixby Vision button. When you tap the Shopping icon, Bixby searches for your item on Amazon.
Fine tune your Infinity Screen
Tune your display's color balance just the way you like it.
Tap the Settings icon.
Tap Display.
Tap Screen mode to adjust the settings.
This software update also fixes the "DQA keeps stopping" pop-up error reported by some users.
hopefully it is strictly improvements and no downsides.. downloading now
This update also seemed to fix my wifi disconnecting issue. It stays connected now. I also cleared system cache after upgrade.
I still have the pink tint at the edges. I wanted to like this phone but Samsung fooled me again.
This update broke my third party wireless charger. Had no problems with it before the update, now it only charges about 30 percent then stops, still have fast wireless charging option disabled.
It messed up messages for me. If I get a text that is over a couple of sentences long, it will split it up. Not an issue at all before the update.
I still have wifi disconnect issues even after the update

Has anyone found a fix for the wifi issue yet? I had no issues with the 4/21 update but I do have issues with the latest update.

Whatsapp not waking up the screen

Hi. I have a weird problem. When anyone rings me on WhatsApp my phone screen doesn't wake up, it stays on the always on display with the WhatsApp symbol there, so i have to double tap display to wake the screen to see who is calling. I've never had this problem before on any phone and my last phone was the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
Also on my lock screen I'm just getting a symbol from whatever app messaged me and I then have to click the app symbol to see the message, whereas before it would have the header and part of the message written. I don't know what's happened. Hopefully someone can help me out? Thanks in advance.

Is it normal for the screen not to wake up when you get a WhatsApp call or video call? Is it a new feature to preserve battery or do I need to factory reset my phone? I've uninstalled it then reinstalled it and still the same. Is there a setting I'm missing? Thanks

You can enable Always on Display and set it to continuous.

My aod is set to continuous. When I get a WhatsApp call or WhatsApp videocall my screen does not wake up it just stays on the aod screen and I have to press the power button to wake the screen to see who is calling and to answer. Whereas if I get a normal voice call the screen wakes up automatically which is normal.
My issue is WhatsApp is not waking my screen.

I'm actually having the same problem too.
Another issue I also noticed is when I have WhatsApp calls, the phone does not go into deep sleep after (it's documented in other threads related to deep sleep).
I raised this issue to Samsung support, but no reply so far. I'm not expecting any tbh. I hope a firmware or Whatsapp update fixes these issues.

Oh, so WhatsApp is not waking up your screen either? And yeh I noticed my battery was draining really hard and followed that other thread about it. So i rebooted and its fine atm. Luckily I don't get alot of calls over WhatsApp.
Nobody else besides us two that WhatsApp is not waking up the screen for? Bit strange.

Yep, a reboot fixes the drain issue, my battery standby goes from below average to pretty decent after the reboot. I think more and more are noticing this issue as we're monitoring deep sleep problems.
I wonder if more have call not lighting up the screen issue. I noticed edge lighting not working for a lot on whatsapp, so could be related.
Having the same issue of WhatsApp call not waking up
Hello good folk.
WhatsApp calling is not waking up my screen with AOD on and when my phone is locked.
As soon as I take it off, however, the WhatsApp call wakes up my screen as per normal. This never happened before my last update. Even with AOD enabled, the calls would wake up the screen.
I went from nougat to oreo and then I did another auto update after that nougat to oreo update. When this update occurred, I started to notice the issue.
Hope something gets figured out.
