As it says in the title, I have seriously read all over this forum and cannot seem to find any clearcut answers to how to gain root without screwing up the sensors on this phone. I followed the instructions to format phone in TWRP then flash Su and the DM Verity zip but literally nothing has worked for me, I end up with root but without a working camera or anything else sensor related. I'm slightly frustrated as I've been using Android since 2008 and have rooted every single one, but have never come across a forum with as much varied info. Can anyone help me please :/
Wich version of SU are you flashing, have you tried with Magisk? This happening on stock (rooted) rom or/and on any other rom?

I was flashing the 2.79 one shown in the tutorial on here. I also used the recommended dm verity zip. I checked the Canadian s7 edge post and couldn't seem to get any answers.
Thanks for the help by the way
As I see there's no difference in hardware between the canadian and international variant so what's happening to you it's odd; but there's another member "unit68" that had a similar problem (a bit more unlucky to be honest) wich solved that using "flash fire" that I have no idea what it is; his post is #431 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...gat-canada-t3497448/post72246170#post72246170 maybe you can send him a pm and find a solution together! I hope you'll find out a way to gain root without problems! Good luck

Thank you for your help. I have not yet tried flashing twrp then flashing a custom rom right away. I wanted to stay on stock, but it seems like that isn't possible.

I did my first rooting blah, blah, blah and it was a success on the exception I have no sound now. everything works fine except I can't call anyone and or listen to music. I did tons of research on this before posting this, but I still didn't get my problem resolved which in turn forced me to pester ya'll. I found a thread of others having this problem and tried a fix about trying to install a different modem with odin and it keeps failing.
I installed the MJA upgrade (how to root sph-l720) I saw on youtube. after the rooting etc.. is when I lost sound. everything else worked (data) (wifi) (texting) (googleplay) etc......
I could only find one other modem to try, but like I said it failed to install.
after 3 days of browsing and getting things done by myself, I'm burned out and could really use help on this. I'm very new to this phone thing so please, if there is a way to fix this, be as detailed as possible.
I didn't have time to read forum rules so I didn't post any links cause I was not sure if I was allowed to. If I am and ya'll would like me to post where I learned the rooting and a so called fix to my problem. I can do that. just let me know.
Thanks!
Well this section is for not for your version of the S4. So you would probably have more luck in this section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-sprint
You give way to few details to help you.
- What rooting method did you use?
- What is the excact file that you used for rooting (filename is good enough).
- What is the excact firmware that you are using?
My guess would be that you flashed the wrong file for rooting (if you used cf-root). Just try to reflash the firmware you are on with Odin. That should probably fix it.
You don't need to flash a different modem. I don't think that thats the problem.
Give us more then a name to a youtube video (I can't even find it). Be specific. The more details the better.

Hi Lenny,
thanks for responding
I reposted this in your link, but heres the answer to your question anyways. the exact name of the youtube video is,
(How to Install Android 4.3 Custom ROM on Sprint Galaxy S4!) this video has all the exact files i used on my rooting. I did however use a more updated philz touch recovery. 6.15. something. not sure if that matters or not.
Thanks in advance.
Hey guys.
I am not that new in the whole rooting "scene" but it seems that I am unable to find a proper guide for rooting my (updated) phone. Every guide I have found, not only in this site, is outdated for like a year or so or just for older versions of the firmware, and if there is one thats for D802H(international model, I'm from Greece) it's probably in really bad english or directed towards pros. I rooted my G2 when I got it last year but decided to unroot because of some problems with the screen so I could use my warranty and haven't rerooted since. So it would be really helpful if any of you could point me in a certain guide or just run me through the whole process of rooting my phone, what to download, what to do to my phone, the recoveries etc. I would really like to use Cyanogen Mod or a G3 mod. Certainly, my choice for these two is because they look awesome. If you have any other rom on your mind that might be better than these, please dont hesitate from telling me. I really need all the help I can get, last time I got stuck on a boot loop and didn't know what to do for many hours before I reflashed to stock. So basically I would like a root guide ( found one from a member called somboons, seemed nice but wasn't really thorough as to whether I should wipe all data or just wipe dalvik cache and really wasn't noob-friendly) and a link to a ROM download page with a guide for flashing it. Not really into kernels, so if you could suggest a different one from stock that provides better battery life etc. that would be great. Any other info that you feel I should know will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the trouble I'm putting you,
George.
P.S.: Would like to avoid wiping data if at all possible.

Oh well that was easy, thanks man. Rooted succesfully, installed SU and now have TWRP. What about the ROM? For CM, should I just go in their site and pick one for my phone? Is a release here that's stable?

if CM11 .. try the latest Milestone ... as for CM12, it is still alpha stage, so try at your own risk
Ive tried using every android based one click root method conceivable and still no success rooting. Model Number of course is SM-S975L. I just bought the thing at walmart yesterday and as I understand it's kernel version is causing incompability issues with towelroot (which with extensive research it appears that towelroot is my best option.) and of course root fails (Also tried changing modstrings method). Ive even tried countless Chinese root apps to no avail. I really want a new rom on this thing. (Straight Talk one sucks lol) but Nova Prime saved it somewhat...(like always). Anyway I need help here guys and any is appreciated. I will post screenshots of baseband, Android version, etc. Thanks in advance everyone!!
CF-Autoroot is what you need to root. Also, search the forum. We have an entire thread devoted to your device.
CF-autoroot?
cf-autoroot is used on the computer correct? Also if you would be so kind as to point me in the direction of this mystical thread that's eluding me? lol I really cannot find it to save my life :/

So try using towel root. You can download the apk from the intrrnet. Then install.and run the app. Worked perfect for me.
Hello, XDA community.
I tried to root my Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900T with Chainfire's CF-AutoRoot, but each time I attempt it the phone won't boot into recovery afterwards. I have tried with and without a custom recovery, neither of which are working to fix the problem.
I'm running Android 6.0.1, and I have the latest T-Mobile updates from March 1st, 2017. Could my phone be the wrong version for the AutoRoot? If so, what should/can I do to root my phone while continuing to update my phone with security patches from T-Mobile?
I have tried factory resetting my phone, as well. Is there a certain version I should try with the AutoRoot (Like some version of Android 5.x.x, or 4.x.x of Android and then once rooted re-update to Android 6.0.1?)
I know there are numerous threads that are similar to my problem, but none are from 2017 and none are exactly my problem.
Any tips or suggestions would be great,
Thank you.
I figured it out everybody, thanks!

From my research I found that the error was probably from trying to flash the wrong file, and it must have been because I decided to really focus on one single post on how to root the SM-G900T and follow it exactly, and it worked perfectly! It was my first rooting though, and I didn't brick my device so I still see it as a success.
If you or anyone else is interested, this is the post that worked for me. It seems to be more up to date than any of the other ones I saw.

Hi guys,
Just rooted my S8 and installed TWRP, using STOCK Samsung ROM, AQH3. I noticed in the Camera that "Selective Focus" is not working anymore. I didn't change anything else, just rooted the device and installed Notorious Kernel, before doing this the Selective Focus was working OK. So does anyone know what happened? Any help would be highly appreciated, I really like this shooting mode. Thank you!
EDIT: To clarify: before this I got sometimes the error, but mostly of the time it worked well. Now after rooting the phone and installing TWRP it doesn't work at all in any conditions, even with different subjects.. I've heard someone reporting this issue in another thread, but I can't remember at all
Root these days is nothing but problems.
Well ok.. But I really can't figure out how root could broke a single, specific, functionality of the Camera

Flash stock firmware through Odin and then check again if this solve the issue.
Also which method of root? Magisk or SuperSu?
I used Magisk. Anyway if I'll flash stock firmware through Odin I'll lose TWRP and root and everything else right?

Seems like kernel related issue
Mmmh so you suggest to try changing kernel and/or flashing the stock one to see if the issue persists?
