I did my first rooting blah, blah, blah and it was a success on the exception I have no sound now. everything works fine except I can't call anyone and or listen to music. I did tons of research on this before posting this, but I still didn't get my problem resolved which in turn forced me to pester ya'll. I found a thread of others having this problem and tried a fix about trying to install a different modem with odin and it keeps failing.
I installed the MJA upgrade (how to root sph-l720) I saw on youtube. after the rooting etc.. is when I lost sound. everything else worked (data) (wifi) (texting) (googleplay) etc......
I could only find one other modem to try, but like I said it failed to install.
after 3 days of browsing and getting things done by myself, I'm burned out and could really use help on this. I'm very new to this phone thing so please, if there is a way to fix this, be as detailed as possible.
I didn't have time to read forum rules so I didn't post any links cause I was not sure if I was allowed to. If I am and ya'll would like me to post where I learned the rooting and a so called fix to my problem. I can do that. just let me know.
Thanks!
Well this section is for not for your version of the S4. So you would probably have more luck in this section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-sprint
You give way to few details to help you.
- What rooting method did you use?
- What is the excact file that you used for rooting (filename is good enough).
- What is the excact firmware that you are using?
My guess would be that you flashed the wrong file for rooting (if you used cf-root). Just try to reflash the firmware you are on with Odin. That should probably fix it.
You don't need to flash a different modem. I don't think that thats the problem.
Give us more then a name to a youtube video (I can't even find it). Be specific. The more details the better.

Hi Lenny,
thanks for responding
I reposted this in your link, but heres the answer to your question anyways. the exact name of the youtube video is,
(How to Install Android 4.3 Custom ROM on Sprint Galaxy S4!) this video has all the exact files i used on my rooting. I did however use a more updated philz touch recovery. 6.15. something. not sure if that matters or not.
Thanks in advance.

Thoughts?
I've been noticing that there doesn't seem to be much activity around the Sprint Version of the HTC One. Correct me if i'm wrong. I did manage to get the recovery changed and the device rooted.
Recovery didn't go too smoothly because i didn't realize there was a different TWrp for sprint and i assume the same goes for clockwork. I tried using both and wouldn't work until i found a very brief mention of a sprint TWRP file that ended in wls.
I really wanted to try the Revolution HD ROM but quickly noticed that it seemed like most all version of the htc one are supported except the sprint version. There is a v9.4 but i have yet to find it.
Question: Is the sprint version that different from the others? That difficult to work with? or is the interest just too low?
I was thinking i'd try to have this thread (easily searchable for sprint users) with some quick info on how to deal with those devices. Though i will admit i'm not that skilled in software mods. Just a member of the community that appreciates all the work you guys put in on all these devices and supporting the freedom we enjoy to use our devices as WE please.
If anyone want to join in and commenting about Sprint specific devices and issues.. feel free.
Sorry the sprint version tends to lag behind others because of the cmda chip. Since all international leaks are probably going to be from gsm models, they are only going to be usable on gsm versions of the phone. Until someone leaks a cdma version of 4.2.2 there's not much we can do.

Recovery Experience
Step 1 - Unlocking Boot Loader
I used the Revolution HD thread as a start point. It is very detailed and easy to follow. It directed me to this flashing Guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618... The bootloader process is easy and pain free.
Step 2 - Flashing to a more advanced recovery
The guide doesn't suggest which to use. I went to the Device essentials (sticky thread of the forum). The choices seem to be TWRP and Clockwork ... (if there are more feel free to suggest). Unfortunately this didn't go as planned because I was unaware that the recoveries for a sprint device were different ... So for you ... if you are using TWRP you must use the recovery specifically for Sprint devices .. currently the file name is "openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-m7wls.img". I will try to find a link or anyone can volunteer it.
1. The first thing it allows you to do is save your current recovery. I was unable to do this because i had the wrong recovery and by the time realized it i had tried to flashboot flash. However, you can flashboot boot .. which basically allow you to load the recovery and save your current recovery. then you can flash and replace your recovery with the new one.
That is it.. that is kind of where i am at for now. I haven't flashed a ROM .. and i will say i am having some difficulty with both "superuser" it keeps asking to update but then fails and Wifi Tether .... so i'll return with answers to that when i find them.
Hope this helps someone
seemed like a development issue to me ..

That's just it, it is an issue. If you have issues with a particular custom ROM then you should post in that thread. Development thread is for development and not "issues" with a development.

Nope, this contains no development, its more of a discussion thread. I can see the confusion, so no problem.

Resolved SuperSU and Wifi Tether Issue. The issue was the binary update. HOwever i am not sure how i fixed it. i just tried using the TWRP/CWM method for a third time and it work. it rebooted into recovery, installed the binary file and booted back into the OS. SuperSU worked and then i tried Wifi Tether and it started to work as well .. FYI "settings for Wifi Tether" that i use
1. Device profile "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)". 2. Wifi-Driver reload (checked).
Now I just need the awesomest best ROM .. any suggestions!?
Here's the story:
I got my S4 late last year, and decided to use qbking77's root technique to root my phone. After the 4.3 update, I no longer had root. Also, I had the wifi issue plaguing many S4 users at the moment. So I thought maybe re-rooting would solve my problem, but apparently qbking's method no longer works. So, being a crafty individual, I decided to revert to 4.2.2. I downloaded L720VPUAMF9_L720SPTAMF9_L720VPUAMF9_HOME.tar from samsung-updates and used ODIN to load it. Soon after starting the download, I received a FAIL notification in ODIN and an error in the download screen on my phone as follows:
SW REV CHECK FAIL : FUSED : 4, BINARY : 1
I have tried many versions of ODIN but cannot get the file to load. I really don't want to deal with Sprint over this matter, so any help would be appreciated.
[I am also downloading the 4.3 version from samsung-updates at the moment, but I have to get to bed, so I will try tomorrow.]

you CANNOT got back to MF9 or ANYTHING before MJA.
Grab the MK2 tar (OR MJA) - THERY'RE HERE LOOK.
Flash that in PC Odin and you'll be fine
Spend some time and read and you'll be Okay.

THANK you for reporting back! That is what this community is all about.
Since you have the lates firmware (MJA or MK2) you can now go root, install recovery (via PC Odin or goomanager) and then flash what you wish.
BUT please take some time to read through the developers OPs and followup posts - different ROMs require different recoveries and wipe methods. Recoveries can be switched in recovery too.
Good luck
Hi guys,
I came across this post while searching XDA as I am getting the same error (SW REV CHECK FAIL : FUSED : 4, BINARY : 1) when I try to install "L720VPUAMF9_L720SPTAMF9_L720VPUAMF9_HOME.tar" via various versions of ODIN.
A little background on my phone:
Sprint GS2 L720 that I bought used. The phone gets stuck on the yellow Sprint screen during boot-up. I don't have the whole story but apparently he tried to flash the phone and did so with the incorrect ROM. Rather than try to fix the phone he decided to sell it for cheap so he found a sucker (me) to buy it hoping that I could fix it. I don't have a problem getting the phone into download mode, just can't get the TAR file to install correctly. Since I've never had this phone in working condition I don't know what firmware is on the phone.
I'm sorry if this is a dumb or basic question but I'm completely new at this so any help you can give me in laymen's terms (or links to threads I should read or files I should install) would be greatly appreciated.
LeaderBuilder- You mentioned installing recovery via ODIN? Would you mind elaborating on this. I Googled "Install Recovery with ODIN S4" and came up with videos and links using ClockworkMod and TWRP but I'm not sure if this is what you were referring to. I just hesitant because I don't want to make matters worse or hardbrick my phone.
Anybody willing to respond and help me out- THANKYOU!!!
You install recoveries by using tar files of them

You are trying to install an older version of the stock tar. Once your phone has been upgraded to MJA or newer you cannot install older tar files. You can download the newest stock tar for are phone from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601443
Install using odin 3.07 or newer. Good luck.
Thanks Cruise,
I read through all of the posts on the link that you sent and according to the original poster, flashing that TAR will trip the KNOX which sounds undesirable and potentially dangerous (at least according to the second poster). Is this my best best or only option? Sorry if that's a dumb question but like I said, I'm new to all of this and I really don't want to hard brick my phone. Ideally I'd like to get this to boot properly and bring it back to stock but it sounds like bringing it back to stock might not be an option at this point. Thanks again for your input and the link!

How is it dangerous to trip knox? I personally have it tripped and have really ran into any problems once I rooted. I couldn't install kernels for some reason but I think that was something o was doing wrong .

And it will NOT trigger Knox because it is a stock unmodified tar straight from Samsung/Sprint.

I got news for you, your Knox is already tripped. If the previous owner had already tried to root and install a custom rom that ship has sailed. Installing a stock tar does not trip Knox, installing a custom recovery does.

Check your versions in the about phone screen. Sounds like you have a mismatch between your modem/baseband and your bootloader. Everything should say MJA, MK2, NAE, or NG2. If mismatched, Odin the appropriate modem and all should be well.

Looks like you're going to have to Odin a stock .tar and see if that fixes it. Then reroot with CF Autoroot or Towelroot. They are more reliable methods than the one you used.

I'm having a hard time finding files and tutorials. either a link is broke or when I find a file it has more than 1 file in it and I'm not sure which one to use in the pda or when I do find a single file I do exactly what the tutorial says to do than I get fails. I'm getting frustrated and all I'm doing is going in circles.
I could use a little more help than a reply like "use the search feature"
Help...please.
Rooting this phone is a convoluted bunch of bull****.
I am on OC4. I need to downgrade. Yet every tutorial I go to is full of broken links for the files I need and over a year old.
So far I have these as steps.
1. Downgrade via Odin somehow, not sure what file to use for that, as most links are broken af due to their age. I have Odin 3.10.
2. Towelroot.
3. Recovery
4. Custom rom, going Cyanogen.
5. I have seen threads mentioning having to downgrade my Kernel? Where does that fit in?
Before you ask I have searched google and this forum first, as per protocol. I probably didn't look hard enough.
I am not asking for a step by step, just updated links or tutorials, and maybe some info on what I have right and wrong.
I am NOT NEW to rooting android phones. Rooted the last 5 I've owned starting with the G1.
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the noobness. This S5 isn't like my 4G LTE or Droid Incrdible, but it is still pissing me off.

There are no Cyanogen ROMs for our phones, since that requires a different kernel than our locked bootloader can accept. Which ROM do you want to use? I'll see if I can put together a quick guide for you. I personally use Freedom ROM, which currently uses an OC4 base.
Right here buddy 3rd post. Most of this stuff is pretty easy you just have to read threw the threads.

freedom rom and alliance rom look good. So one of those if cyanogen doesn't work.

yeah you can only use t-wiz base roms because of the bootloader.

Unless you bought a Developer edition with an unlocked bootloader, it's best to stay away from the Unified Development section. You'll just end up with your heartbroken, since they all require kernels that we can't get on our phone. Your best bet is to stick within the Verizon-specific development thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development
And make sure you end up with the right firmware (bootloader, kernel, modem) that matches the ROM you choose! Otherwise, you won't boot up. It took me a few failed boots and attempts before I learned that the hard way.
As it says in the title, I have seriously read all over this forum and cannot seem to find any clearcut answers to how to gain root without screwing up the sensors on this phone. I followed the instructions to format phone in TWRP then flash Su and the DM Verity zip but literally nothing has worked for me, I end up with root but without a working camera or anything else sensor related. I'm slightly frustrated as I've been using Android since 2008 and have rooted every single one, but have never come across a forum with as much varied info. Can anyone help me please :/
Wich version of SU are you flashing, have you tried with Magisk? This happening on stock (rooted) rom or/and on any other rom?
