Im sorry I do not have that device so I cant help much. If you are rooted already i am positive that this will work. Atleast on 3 different samsung devices it has work for me each time. Make sure you are typing in exactly what it says.....
open the terminal emulator and type this in exactly! Dont typr in the word enter. Thats just a reminder to hit enter after each command.
su (enter)
am start com.sec.hiddenmenu/.Program_Edit (enter)
and you should get a pop up screen and scroll down to the bottom and the Service Programming Code will be at the bottom. Write down the 6 digit SPC code and thats your MSL when you goto your phone keypad and dial ##3282##. Hit edit and type in that 6 digit code and your in!!!! Not sure on all devices but even with my new device Samsung Galaxy J727P with 7.0 still works perfectly! am start com.sec.hiddenmenu/.Program_Edit
((({ NO SPACES WHEN TYPING IN THIS PART com.sec.hiddenmenu/.Program_Edit })))
I CLEARLY SEE WHY!!!!!!! you did not type /.Program_Edit
YOU FORGOT THE / In your picture I can clearly see you are not typing it in the correct way. You need to type it in EXACTLY THE SAME AS I TYPE IT IN THE THREAD> YOU ARE NOT TYPING IT IN CORRECTLY THATS WHY!!!!! THATS WHY ITS NOT WORKING AND YOU ARE GETTING A ERROR EVERYTIME. PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION WHEN TYPING IT IN. YOU NEED TO TYPE IT IN THE EXACT WAY I WROTE IT! Its nothing I did or that this dont work! I can see clearly in your photo you are not typing it in correctly and thats your problem. Clear as day you are not typing it in right. This is a error on your part. All you have to do is copy the commands in EXACTLY as I wrote it. (enters) are just reminders to hit the enter button....,... It wsorks great trust me! Its your fault, you are not typing it in correctly. I know it works and can see clearly that you are not typing it in correctly. I can see why in your screenshot!
Wow that last part turned quickly.
Nooooo Wayyyyy.....

There are no spaces. I re-checked it multiple times.
I'm able to still get mine. I just can't change my apn files that led me to finding how to get my Msl. I need to know how to access the apn file. Not the apn.xml files and oldapn.xml file. If you read them files in text editor it has a comment in green (NOTEPAD++) Tell you it has to match file in directory common/something I can't recall. Any insight?

So this worked but didn't work. The program menu popped up and it said my code was 000000 and I tried that but still didn't have too many options available in the ##DATA# Menu

Disclaimer: This is just how I got everything to work on Metro PCS, it may or may not work in the same way for you. I don't warrant or claim that anything discussed here will not brick your phone, bankrupt your business, or impregnate your cat.
Things you will need:
1. Samsung Fascinate (Already Rooted)- Please don't ask; as there are so many already posted and accepted rooting methods for this phone. Seek and Ye shall find my son
2. QPST 2.7 (I used Build 355)- Again, please don't ask as this is considered warez and a taboo discussion on most forums.
3. CDMA Workshop (I used 2.7)- Uh....Ditto my previous remark...DON'T ASK!
4. Metro PCS Files and Support .apk's
a. u2nl
b. autostart.sh
c. autostart.apk
d. anycut.apk - I can't post these files or links to them, but I would appreciate anyone who would like to post or host them for me...just PM and I'll send you the zip if you need it.
5. Android SDK (I will assume that you have this if you have rooted your device) -Please no lectures about assumptions.
6. Samsung Drivers - I can assume you have this as well if you rooted your device. Again, anyone care to post or host...just PM me.
The Task at Hand:
1. Insert and Permission Files:- Let the fun begin
a. Copy all the Metro PCS and Support files listed above to your Android SDK tools folder...in my case this was c:\android\tools
b. Connect your phone with USB debugging turned on (Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging)
c. Now open a Command Prompt and change to your Android SDK tools folder.
d. From the c:\android\tools> prompt run the following commands:
adb remount
adb push u2nl /system/bin/u2nl
adb push autostart.sh /data/opt/autostart.sh
adb shell
chmod 755 /system/bin/u2nl
chmod 755 /data/opt/autostart.sh
exit
adb install autostart.apk
adb install anycut.apk
adb reboot
This will work if you have system-wide root....if you receive a "permission denied" error after the first command you have local root and will need to run the following comands:
THIS IS ONLY IF THE LAST SET OF COMMANDS DID NOT WORK....from the command prompt c:\android\tools>
adb push u2nl /sdcard/u2nl
adb push autostart.sh /sdcard/autostart.sh
adb shell
su (prepare to allow the permissions on your phone at this time....LOOK AT YOUR PHONE NOW!!!)
mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system
mkdir /data/opt
busybox cp /sdcard/u2nl /system/bin/u2nl
busybox cp /sdcard/autostart.sh /data/opt/autostart.sh
chmod 755 /system/bin/u2nl
chmod 755 /data/opt/autostart.sh
mount -t rfs -o remount,ro /dev/block/stl9 /system
exit
exit
(back at the command prompt)
adb install autostart.apk
adb install anycut.apk
adb reboot
2. Provisioning Your Phone:
a. Connect your phone and put it in "diagnostic mode" (Settings > Wireless & networks > Dial up networking)
b. This should present you with a new port in QPST....take note of the port.
c. Now go to whiterabbit's site and enter your login string, then click on generate. (remember to generate the file appropriate for your version of CDMA Workshop) -P.S while you're there at whiterabbit- type your ESN into the lower box and generate your Metro PCS MSL...you will need it later.
d. Now open CDMA Workshop and choose the port you took note of earlier...click connect. Open the security tab and enter the SPC in the box (000000 <SPC) and click SPC then send....then in the bottom left corner click on the custom password box and replace "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" with "2010031619780721" and send....now click on the memory tab and then click on the "write" button under NV items...navigate to where you saved the file you generated at whiterabbit's website and write...now exit CDMAW and click yes at the exit message....your phone will reset.
e. Unplug your phone and plug it back in when it has finished rebooting...it will still be in diagnostic mode...so go ahead and open QPST Configuration...click on start clients and service programming...this brings up a new window...click ok...then click on "read from Phone" in the next new window...enter your MDN and MIN under the CDMA tab them go to the M.I.P. tab....make sure to change from MOB only to MOB w/Simple back....then delete all entries in the top window except the first one...then highlight and edit that entry...make sure the top 2 entries under the new window are correct...then change all the IP's to 0.0.0.0...click OK and now go to the PPPConfig tab click on UM and enter your MSL from whiterabbit's site...do the same to AN....thats it click write to phone and let the phone reboot.
3. Now the Easy Part:
a. Once the phone reboots..you have to turn off "dial up networking" to get your 1x and arrows.....now you have full data
b. Now MMS.....open anycut on the phone...tap the new shortcut button....choose new activity then scroll down to MMS Provisioning and tap it. Your new short cut will be on your home screen...tap it and enter the MMS server for metropcs... exit and your done.
It is 3:04 am and that's as good as it gets for me..I wrote this from memory and I am sure it's not the best tutorial or the most svelt, and I may have left some things out or maybe I was a little vague....do not berate, just feel free to rewrite, edit, append, addendum, or be as helpful as you can in your replies. Leave your egos at the door and treat this like you would a wiki. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Any constructive criticism is welcomed. Have fun.
thanks for the guide! just a quick addition. I think you need to press ##8778# to get into the diag menu so that qpst 2.7 recognizes your phone on your port.
update: got the messaging to work and the data arrows. but the internet just won't push through. also, when I opened Any Cut and went to new activity, "MMS Provisioning" wasn't a option. Is there a specific version i should be looking for ?
Where do I get the metro pcs files? I've looked high and low for them but can't seem to find them.
you can get the u2nl and autostart.sh from white rabbit's website where it saids "precompiled arm binary"
the other two you can just turn wifi on and dl it from the market. hope that helps! if not, just PM me and i'll send em to you.
I've got step 1 completed but I'm having trouble with step 2...
Phone doesn't show up in QPST.
When it says to go to whiterabbit and enter the login string, I'm not sure what to enter. I don't have a MPCS phone number yet if that's what it's looking for...
did you dial ##8778# to get get into the diag menu and set them both to modem? that and putting the phone in dial up networking mode should get qpst to recognize your phone.
for whiterabbit, you need to enter your MPCS [email protected], so i suppose you do need one lol

##8778# doesn't work for me, it just doesn't do anything. I've tried a bunch of other codes but just not working to get into that diag mode.
Ok, the problem was that I had to go to my device manager and tell it to make the phone a different COM port - 3. Then restart QPST and tell it to monitor port 3. That works...
Stumped again...
Ok, we only got this phone to test out the metro pcs service. So we don't have a metropcs account as yet.
When we called the local store, they said they wouldn't add the ESN for us for ANY smartphone.
How did you guys do it? Buy a regular phone first and get it activated, then flash the Fascinate and somehow add the ESN to their database?
Very Nice Guide.
can you please PM me (Metro PCS Files and Support .apk's)

Damn man I guess nobody check their messages anymore, but anys ways I got everthing done still no internet, so whats the deal
WHO BESIDES THE OP HAS ACTUALLY HAD ANY SUCCESS?
yeah i am also trying to flash a cdma hero and i dont know how to use sdk, not too familiar, but im up for it. any video tutorials any1? this sucks dude, i really wanna learn how to do this i have a phone and i cant even use it.
Did you use a custom ROM or just the standard ROM?
I've tried a few different variations of this method and it doesn't work. At least not with the standard ROM. Also the PPP username and password kept resetting itself back to verizon after reboot so I'm guessing we're gonna need a modified NV-Items file to fix that; the one from whiterabbit doesn't work on this phone.

I did all the steps and have downloaded the Terminal Emulater from the market, but when i type SU in it nothing happenes,Im trying to install Armenian Language pack on it.
BTW Im using Mdeejay Froyo Sense v.23 clean #15.
If you type in su, at first it looks exactly like this $ su.
After you hit the enter key, there should be only a hash #.
If there's only a hash, you're now working with root rights.

That is no problem because are phones are already rooted so you don't need any superuser. If your terminal look like I described it, just go on. I'm pretty sure your phone will give out errors if it doesn't work.

Can someone please get me started. I just bought a Droid X from Verizon, and had it fully flashed to cricket.
When I got home, I updated it to android 2.3.3 the latest version. I now cant figure out how to root my phone. Can someone give me the order I need to do things in?
Any help would be much appreciated!
if u updated it to gb ota ur screwed... there is no way to root gb yet. u r going to have to sbf back to 2.2 then reflash ur phone and reroot it. look in the wiki for the FULL sbf. if u want gb then u r going to have to use the prerooted gb also linked in the wiki. good luck n have fun.
Sent from my DROIDX using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
oh yea 2.2 is .340 sbf. if u paid to have ur dx rooted then u should get qpst 2.7.323 and cdma workshop and also hw virtual serial port, read the guide floating around on xda dx forum and u can do it urself.

Thanks for replying.
I had the zio with cricket, and we know how that goes. Talking about it makes me vomit.
So I traded an old xbox 360 for a droid x with bad esn from verizon. I paid 75 bucks to have it flashed to cricket. When I got home I checked for update first, not knowing the consequences. So now I fear if I restore and install prerooted update I will lose my flash, and need a solid walkthrough to feel I can do it myself. There is so much info and varibles from carriers etc that Im afraid Im looking at a lot of bad guides too. I can only be as good as a walkthrough directs me. I also fear having 64 bit windows could cause an issue. Can anyone either confirm or deny 100% if restoring will clear my cricket flash?
All input and suggestions on this would be very helpful. Really cant afford to put more money then I already have on this. If anyone could post me specific links to my needs, I may gather enough courage to try. Especially if you have used one personally, and can suggest a degree of difficulty. I must get this rooted, I HATE ADS AND SYSTEM APPS!!!! Thanks again!
You will have to sbf and then reflash it back to.cricket. check out this site http://www.mycricketforum.com/veriz...cricket-2-2-froyo-talk-text-mms-internet.html

This is indeed one of the links I looked at. So this is the method to flash it, can you post a link on how to restore it to 2.2, so I can flash it, then root it, then I also need to be sure I know how to install the prerooted 2.3.3 for it. Thanks again!

Ok, so everything has been good til now and this is where im stuck at #17. QPST doesnt recognize my phone, there for I cannot proceed. Please someone help!!!.
7) Open up CDMA Workshop 2.7
8) Under COM Settings (AT Mode) select the COM port you setup from the tutorial and then click the connect button. If it successfully connected it will say Connected to COM15 port successfully. on the bottom (may not say COM15, thats just the port I used.)
9) Go to the Security tab and under SPC there will be an empty box. Enter 000000 then click the SPC button and Send. It will then popup saying SPC is correct. Phone unlocked.
10) Now go to the Other tab. Under PRL click Write and browse to where you put that PRL from earlier.
11) Go to the NAM tab and in the MIN and MDN(Dir_Number) boxes enter in the info you got from cricKet customer service and click write.
12) Now go to the Memory tab. Under NV Items click Write. Browse and select the NV Item file you generated earlier. Once its done it will say 12 NV Items were successfully written to the phone.
13) Go to the Main tab. Click Mode>Reset
14) Your phone should have reset. Once it boots backup make sure to get your COM port back up and running.
15) You may now close CDMA Workshop 2.7 and open QPST
16) Open QPST Service Programming
17) You should see your phone listed in the list. Select it, click Start Clients>Service Programming. When it opens select your phone and click OK in the Service Programming screen.
18) On the bottom left click a button labeled Read from Phone, a box will popup, there should be 000000 already typed in, click OK. this may take a few minutes. There will be a blue progress bar on the top. Go smoke a cigg.

Ok, I have reflashed official foyo, flashed my phone to cricket with I believe everything in working order. Afterwards, I installed the prerooted gingerbread with success! My service has been suspended I believe because my bill was due. So Ill go pay it then ensure everything is working. I can still text, although I have no 3g symbol but I assume because my service is suspended. Will post my results in a bit!
Thanks to everyone who provided guidance and courage
if gb doesnt work out then get cyanogen. i had problems with the prerooted gb not charging correctly. i havent heard of anyone else having that problem though.

is anyone else having this issue? we're typing in the serial # and beta key perfectly. we're not mistaking O's for 0's; 1's for I's, or anything. we are indeed choosing Windows and HTC Evo 4G on the website. we're doing everything absolutely perfect but it's still giving us an invalid beta key.
we're on hardware version 4.
learn how to copy and paste into command prompt.
we're doing that, still no go. absolutely nothing is working.
Double check the S/N that reports when you start the tool, just to make sure you are entering the same alpha/numeric the phone reports to the program. Use that S/N to generate your key.
I've been rooting phones all morning, hardware 003 and 004 with no problems at all.
Same here, I've done 3 today, with not a single problem to report.

CMD
I dont know how comfortable you are with CMD but, What I did was use CMD prompt navigate to the folder and .exe for the revolutionary tool. Put in the command copy and then pasted it from the website. I put my folder on the desktop
Like this
CMD.EXE
CD users\whatever your name is here\desktop\what ever the folder name is
then revolutionary.exe
it launched found the phone and i pasted in what was needed by mouse and pressed enter and then the magic happened. Mileage may vary happy rooting
I had the same problem. You have to use the same key as provided with the download u can't download the program and go back for the key

I had this same problem, everything going smooth until running the revolutionary.exe and pasting the Beta key. Seems when you go to the revolutionary site for the key, the file that gets downloaded is attached to the key, so go ahead and unzip the file to your c: location again and when it asks, just copy and replace all the files and go through the steps and it should accept the Beta key this time and finish, it did for me. I hope this helps.
do you have the latest rev exe....there is a ver4 out.......

That has to be the problem that I was having along with most of everything getting the error.
They/I was using version 3 revolutionary with the Key gen that's basically set for version 4.
No way for a old version to confirm key gen that isn't built in that tool.
This is the solution!

THANKYOU!!! That's what I needed to do as I was using the revolution.exe from the zip I got from the larger zip from the root instructions. Once I used the v4 from the revolution site it worked like a charm! yea!
Another fix would be to try it on another computer. I was having the same issue on my Ubuntu laptop so I tried it on my Ubuntu desktop and it fire right on up. Hope this does help some that are still having problems. It work so don't give up and its really worth it .
Listen and follow closely i made a thread already how to fix this
When you generate your beta key it is imperative that u generate it from the same revolutionary zip you downloaded, the reason people get invalid key is 99.9% because it wasnt generated from the same revolutionary file downloaded,
2nd important its alot easier to copy the beta key in the box and paste to command prompt.
Do this by highlight, key in box , copy it, then open revolutionary.exe.
When the cmd prompt opens take your cursor to the top corner of cmd box and right click go to edit then paste, this is because the beta key is easily fudged up and case sensitive.
Remember to have the fast boot unchecked, usb debug on, and charge only on. And have the modified drivers installed
if fails re download the revolutionary for windows or mac or whatever comp your on and regenerate the key from that specific download and open the exe. From that one, and erase all others. You will get zerging root
then when done choose recovery in hboot then youll get a blue cwm screen choose install zip fine the su-2.3.6.3-ef gh signed.zip that should be on the root of your sd card, and install, that pushes the actual superuser to your device
now your rooted fully with cwm
I am trying to root a friends EVO, and it is not working for me either. I have tried everything listed here and still get invalid key.
Fastboot unchecked, Debugging on, New HTC driver as listed installed, Antivirus turned off, Phone on Charge only.
hopeless
EDIT: EVerything is fine, I finally read and comprehended that I was supposed to use the SERIAL# showing on the Revolutionary screen to enter in to generate the key. Once I was smart enough to figure that out, DONE!! Phone rooted and flashing AMONRA as I type. HOOAH!!
You have to put your s/n not anyone's else, make sure your not confusing o with 0. Capitals matter, I just rooted and it works.

Are there no secret codes for this phone?
Nevermind.
For those interested I followed the instructions here
Didn't work the first time with lower case "on" so I used uppercase "ON" and it worked.

Did you have any issues writing to /efs/carrier from Root Explorer? Every time I try it says the write failed. I even changed the permissions on the folder to 777 and that didn't help. I also tried to push the file from ADBGUI and that didn't work either.
Worked for me just fine. just had to hit read write button at the top before I used notepad or whatever is called to edit it.

Okay, I got the file changed but I cannot get the menu to pop up. I'm just supposed to go to the dialer and type in *#06# and something is supposed to pop up, or am I supposed to hit the dial button?? It just tries to call and I get the default Verizon message that the call can't be completed as dialed. Also, I tried the "intent" shortcut method and when I try to run it, it says "Application not Installed" I've verified that I do have HiddenMenu.apk in my /system/app folder. Not sure why this isn't working for me. My phone is rooted, but I am running the stock Verizon build.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did go into /system/app folder and clicked HiddenMenu.apk and installed it but that was before i made the change to capital letters for the "ON" edit. Not sure if that mattered or not. You dont need to hit send, it will work after you hit the last # if it is working.

I got mine just by editing the text to "ON" with root explorer text editor... never touched hiddenmenu.apk
did you reboot after editing text?
It's just one thing I tried before it finally worked but as I said don't know if it's necessary and probably its already installed if it's in that folder. I'm glad it worked for someone else though.

In case anyone was wondering some of the NV Items are WRITE PROTECTED so even though "NV-items_reader_writer.exe" will say "successfully written" some items such as 550 it will not overwrite the info and no change will take place.
Just out of curiosity, what does this hidden menu give access to?

It gives you the ability to change USB settings so you can use tools to edit NV item entries. One of which is 550 which is your imei number in case flashing screws up your imei. Also you can backup your entire EFS.

Not sure if this is the right thread !
I want to back up my EFS. I screwed up my S4 and want to be careful this time. Is there a tool or tutorial for Verizon Note 3 ?
If *#7284# doesn't work try *#0808#
