Would any of you be interested in a small wrist lanyard or a neck lanyard that would be custom made for the kaiser? I am having some made for me, but I would need to order in bulk, and I don't have the need for more than one
Either way, I just talked to the rep who makes them, and I gave him some specific requests for a custom lanyard that would:
A: Not have any material that could scratch the Kaiser
B: Would have the smallest quick release connector made
C: Would have the smallest strap that would fit around your hand to get on your wrist, thus leaving only the minimal hanging strap when in a case.
D: Would be Black to match the Kaiser
E: Could have custom imprinting on the strap to say.... Kaiser, TytnII, HTC, whatever we would want it to say.. or nothing at all.
Let me know if anyone would be interested. I'm pretty sure the cost would be less than a few bucks... Either way I will be ordering them for myself.
JB
I'd be in for a couple.

Excellent... Anyone else?
RemE: You would be good with the small wriststrap correct?
JB
Yes, and I've liked this type minimal length lanyard for other small things like cameras as well, that's why I'd like a couple.
If you're putting a quick release on it anyway; how about making a wrist strap & a neck lanyard matching pair that has the same connector... easy to switch off between them. I think that'd be cool and worth a few extra bucks.

Great Idea! Matching strap and nek lanyards, perfect

I will a bit later today... You see.. I still haven't ordered them yet... but I can show you what each part will look like, since they are one offs.. there haven't been any made yet...
Give me a few hours, I will be working on this at work.

Note, thay also make an attachment that threads through any spot meant for a camera type wrist strap. Not sure if the Kaiser has one of these, but it looks like it may from the pictures I have seen.
The thing I like about this system is that you can use the clips with more than one device.
One thing to note though, I tried the Harmony headphones with my 8125, and could only get one side of the headphones working. Seems the 4pin 2.5mm connectors used on the 8125 do not have any type of standard for how they are wired. I am guessing this would not be the case with the Kaiser, but you would need to use the usb to 3.5mm adapter in conjunction with the rivet offerings.

Thanks for the link... but the lanyards they have, use metal adapters and that is what I am trying to avoid. The metal adapters will scratch the device. Not to be too anal, but when you pay 800 for a device, it's always a good idea to keep it in mint condition to have a good resale when the next hot device comes out.

Spend a bit more and get this then...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333707
I'd say it has easily prevented $20 worth of scratches on my wife's iPhone already and it also has just a slightly tackier feel to it, so the phone doesn't slip out of your fingers as easily, although the OP on this link indicates the Kaiser already has a tacky backplate, probably for that very reason.

Thats a great idea as well... But my own reason for wanting a lanyard is to help me pull the device out of the belt case that I use to carry it in... Almost everytime I have dropped a phone, it has been when I am taking it out of the case... With the lanyard on it, It will be easier to pull out, as well as keep it from hitting the ground.
I have been super busy at work, but I will be making the phone call very soon to get the lanyards...
JB
Well... I just finished getting a quote for the lanyards...
Looks like my idea is getting stomped...
The company wants a minimum order of 100 units at 1.52 per unit... That means I would have to dish out 160 dollars... Thats fine with me, but I'm concerned I wouldn't be able to get the money back...
Also, they won't send out one neck lanyard and one wrist lanyard with a cell conector, since it would mean that they would have to have more male connectors than female connectors. So the only way is to order half of the lanyards as 36" and the other half as 12"...
Either way, they are very nice lanyards and I really want a few for myself. If you all think I could get rid of 90 of them then I will go and order them...
Another Idea I had, was to have, "XDA Developers" prnted on the lanyard, and the site can use them as a way to help get donations.... such as selling lanyards for 5 bucks or so...
Gimme some feedback if ya all would please.
JB
I'd pop for 10, short ones.

I take enough pride in my geekness to buy something branded with XDA Developers, but I don't have a need for a lanyard.
It's a pretty good idea though. You may want to get it out to a broader audience via another more general post, as I am sure the interest would apply for other devices as well. Me thinks one of the moderators should be able to help out with this.
Ok, I will order the Lanyards with, "XDA Developers" on the lanyard. The lanyard will be polyester black, and the text will be a dark grey. I'm not into big bright text, I like being low key.
It will be 50 neck lanyards and 50 small wrist lanyards.
I don't think I will have an issue getting them outa my hands.
JB
let me know when you get em - m presumably you take paypal?
I am a bit of a loser for a lanyard!!!

Good : Well i love the new tablet and in hand its light and a pleasure to use, the Plastic back is nice in hand and not slippery and visually this tablet is great. But ...........
Bad and Ugly : Here's my issue with the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
What is happening and i can see this being a big problem down the road of use is that when i hold the Tab with my left hand in portrait with the dock connector on my palm of the left hand, the thin piece of the housing is getting bent and pulled away from the glass and over time i see this getting stretched out. i think Samsung should have built the aluminum edging more webbing in the glass to keep that delicate piece from being so flexible and flimsy.
Anyone else having/noticing this issue or any other flaws, defects ????
Here's a few pics of what i am mentioning :

Damn, and here I was pondering returning my Transformer for a better build quality Samsung. Shootz!
I still may do it though since I never use portrait mode and for the most part it will be on a stand, but still, it sucks to see that.
You must have a 10.1v
I have the Google i/o edition and the side looks different than your with regard to the placement of those round hole covers on either side in relation to the curve.
I think that on the i/o (hopefully it will be the same as the 10.1) it has resolved that issue. I am trying to hold it as you are mentioning and I see no movement whatsoever. even if i try to pry at it, it is super solid.
is your a 10.1v?

mines from San Fran USA - Dev Conference , its the white back Limited Edition
Everyone needs to specify details regarding there unit if they have one. It is clear that the limited edition/early release galaxy tabs are not identically the same as the one yet to be released.
thats really strange, your tablet looks way different than mine which also came from the recent i/o event.
picture attached...
it would seem there were multiple version of the same device if you have the limited edition white backed then...
anyone else? which do you have?
R
im trying to re-create your picture to make sure its not an optical illusion, but your bottom half of the silver bezel looks so angular/curved compared to mine which as you can see from the picture above is much less curved. Espeically noticeable with the small round hole covers on either end of the connector, mine are not very curves, yours seemvery curved and angular.

I don't understand - are you using it while something is plugged into the dock connector, or is just from normal use? Maybe you are just holding it wrong?
normal use , i take very good care of my toys hahaha
And no i don't have it plugged in when using it
if you hold it left handed its normal i find that the palm and strong of the thumb seem to put stress on the thin strip of aluminum and slightly pulls it away from the glass since on mine the thin strip is not any thicker under the glass as what i can see visually. so its seems to be a weak point of the aluminum bezel
Bummer i wonder if a port plug would help.

I am not experiencing that same problem, but the glass in one of the corners does appear to be pealing up. Link below. Hoping that this is as far as it raises, but who knows... I talked to the Samsung guy at Google I/O and had my first device replaced for a similar issue I noticed there, and he said this first batch was made by hand in a bit of a rush so that they would be available for us googlers. I expect that the automated and machine driven build process for the production units will have more consistent quality.

Harsh that looks bad. I think the quality of the aluminum bezel is to thin and over time with alot of use our holding styles will cause these kind of issues.

Just got off the phone with Samsung about this issue. They will allow me to send the unit to them for repair/replacement. Im just a little worried about going through the whole process only to find that they will send me back a unit with similar or worse build quality issues... Anyone else noticing problems with the screen raising up? Might just stick with what I have for fear of winding up with an even worse unit. Really was starting to fall in love with this thing.

I'm getting the same thing. Mine was this way out of the box at the conference, and with the plastic back pulling back, it looked like the tablet was warped. I popped it back into place and it looked good so I didn't say anything to anyone at the conference about it. I probably should have though, because now the screen is separating from the housing again in those two corners.
I stupidly threw away the blue card they gave at I/O that had the contact info for Samsung, who did you talk to about getting it repaired?
Not exactly getting a warm fuzzy feeling from this thread. I pre-ordered online. Starting to think I might want to cancel that and just wait for it at Best Buy, if even the Samsung tablets are having build quality issues.
Oh no. I was afraid these reports would begin to surface on the 10.1. Some of these issues described Ive seen in the 10.1v as well, although my biggest gripe with these is the severe backlight bleeding. I have now exchanged this device with Vodafone AU twice and seen a total of 6 units and all have had backlight bleeding and inconsistent build quality.
With the first unit I received both right corners of the screen were popping out over the bezel a little. I believed it to be a problem with the adhesive used, because if you were to put pressure on the corner it would hold for a second then release, and you could hear the "sticky" sound as the adhesive separated.
All the units I've sampled though have had really shocking problems with backlight bleeding/leakage. If you're someone who planned to watch movies on this tablet in dimly lit rooms, you could find this distracting. I do. Its a shame really because I otherwise like the quality of the display, and both 10.1 models are nicely designed and nice to hold. In a lot of ways I prefer the feel of the 10.1v over the iPad 2. Too bad though that the build quality is questionable across the range of what is now 3 different variants of the 10.1 that Samsung has produced. What's the deal Samy?!
I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet but most likely I'll return this 10.1v to Vodafail for a refund and wait it out for the 8.9. Perhaps I'll have better luck then?

I'm using the standard Acer case but I like to use it in my hand, upsidedown, but due to the one end of the case being open the A500 slides out.
What I'm hoping you people can help me with is, I`m after a case that allows for it to be folded flat when open (for use being held - I don't use it on a table) and doesn't slip out (so held secure all around); and preferably doesn't cover the bezel around the screen.
I know I'm asking a lot here, and I've looked at loads of cases, but the pictures don't show the detail needed to see if this fits the bill.
Thanks in advance.

Im not exactly sure what u mean by holding it upside down and stuff but i think the case i use would work. The tablet doesnt slide out at all (unless you force it) and the bezel isnt covered.
Here it is: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005AZ7B4S/ref=oh_o03_s01_i00_details
I`d had a look at that, and read good things about it, but didn`t know the specifics; thanks for the headsup.
@coercri.....Some time ago I bought the "Vipertek" case which appears identical to the one jon described only different name. I published my comments and pictures on another thread in this forum. I think the same design case has popped up on Amazon over last months all about the same price with different names. It's still working well for me and holds the tab really well no matter which orientation you use. I have copied my original post including photos and attach it for your information.
The link posted by azoller1 in reply to my original post is the correct link to Amaz. Ordered it on 11/12/11 and it arrived by USPS on 11/16/11. It looks, it feels and it smells like leather on the outside whilst the inner lining is micro-fill. It has 6 "clips", (looking at it in landscape view) 2 are at the top L & R corners, 2 are at the bottom L & R corners and the final 2 are on the L & R sides about one third of the way down from the top. When it is closed up the A500 engages in all 6 clips. When it is fully closed every "input" (power, hdmi, usb full, usb "B", on/off button, volume up/down, rotation lock and even the sd card cover) are all accessible. To operate the A500 you have to "unhook" the bottom 2 clips and slide the bottom edge of the A500 into one of the "ridges" where it rests at the required angle. Although I am not an acomplished photographer I hope the attached photos will show that.
Having used it for a couple of days I am growing to like it especially at the price I paid.......THERE LIES THE RUB!......... When I bought it on 11/12/11 it was quoted on Amaz's site as $9.93 plus $4.99 shipping and even without seeing it I thought I couldn't go wrong at that price. On Tuesday 11/15/11 I went to Amaz's to check on delivery date and ........SHOCK HORROR........ found that the price was now shown as $19.98 plus shipping. Long story short I checked my bank account and found that the original price quoted me of $9.93 plus shipping was what had been charged to my debit card. There was no notice on the web site when I bought it that it was a special offer or some such so I can only conclude that for a short time a mistake had been made by the selling company.
At the price I paid I would heartily recommend this case BUT I am not certain I would at twice the price. But if you like the look of it, look around and see if you can find a reduced price.

Many thanks for the information.
Also many thanks from me as well, had the Acer brand case and got soooo annoyed by it slipping out, and not this one looks promising.
First off let me say I love this phone, I really do but Motomaker has been leaving me a little sad.
So I started off by getting a 16gb model straight from AT&T since I'm not a patient person but after a bit I wanted 32gb so I sold the 16 and made one off contract on Motomaker.
The first Motomaker phone I got had scratches and dents on the screen bezel and it also looked like it had issues with the fusing as some of the plastic seemed to have gotten well into the screen.
I got a replacement and their advanced RMA was great and incredibly fast, however, the second one I got has a different issue. The power button on the new one doesn't seem to be seated right and sits lower than my previous two as well as being harder to press and not giving good tactile feedback..
Looks like I'm going to have to RMA again once I get the money back on my credit card.
Moto X you are amazing but something with the quality control is a bit lacking.
I had similar issues with my first phone. The power button was seated the same way you described, making it very difficult to actually use. The volume rocker was the exact opposite though, the whole button wobbled within the phone's frame, making it feel cheap. I requested a RMA saying that I wanted to swap colors, and only changed my accent color. The buttons on this phone are much more firm/usable.
I hope whatever issues there are down in Texas can get resolved soon. I really like this phone and Motorola to succeed but QA problems will give it a bad rep.
They didn't seem to care when I told them the damage I think if you bother calling they will change it.
i hope they get it right. mine came in with no issues. so they are capable of getting it right the fist time lol. i totally agree that they have issues though, my brother's veizon pre-order led is not near as flush as the one on my phone.
The Rogers ones I've seen (assembled in China) including mine are all flawless.
The one I got (no customization, Verizon) *works* fine but on the front-facing camera, I've noticed the felt ring is not seated correctly and creeping over the lens a little. Although I doubt Moto would give me an rma, it seems like a manufacturing defect.

I have a t mobile one and noticed it has a small scrape on the bottom back and a few plastic molding issues.
I am actually returning it now since I noticed there's eBay sellers selling black and white xt1058 models that are unbranded for significantly less. Made in China units but I figure I'll save $120 over an american unit and be fine with it. I'm in refarmed area so I don't care about the aws hspa and the non att xt1058 can have unlocked boot loader / no bloatware. Maybe the Chinese have better quality
At least, each time you replace a moto maker device you get a $10 play store credit (unless they fixed that loop hole) and supposedly the return process is easy and if you can float the $650 hold you can get it replaced without any down time.

I know what you guys mean with the manufacturing issues. My rear camera literally has a little piece of Texas in it. I noticed when I pulled it out of the box that the lens had a little speck of tan on it. However it won't wipe off, and closer inspection revealed it was on the other side of the lens!
Doesn't seem to affect the pictures at all though, so I doubt I'll get it replaced over that. But I'm sure gonna bring it up if I ever try! :fingers-crossed:

So, my display is going out...:crying: It will intermittently flash on and off for no reason. The digitizer still works, even when I can't see anything I can still feel it vibrating in my hand. This also pretty much breaks Active Notifications. :crying: And Touchless Control..:crying: And twist-to-camera...:crying:
Needless to say, I have a new one coming from Verizon tomorrow. And I definitely told them about the speck in my camera too. The lady at Verizon had the nerve to ask me if I had a memory card for my phone. I told her that unfortunately the designers at Motorola had taken that option away from me. I hope they at least send me some screen protectors or something for my trouble......because I thought I was doing a good thing supporting the workers in Texas.
UPDATE
My display went the rest of the way out last night. This resulted in a useless paperweight that vibrated occasionally. The worst part of it, is that I couldn't use Motorola Migrate to get my old info! Because the screen wouldn't come on, I couldn't see the QR code to start the wifi transfer. HOWEVER, after much anguish and profanity, I managed to get Moto Migrate to connect WITHOUT THE QR CODE!! I couldn't find this method listed in any literature, but it worked for me, and my non-displaying screen.
1) The old Moto X must have the NFC on! That is the key to this. Thankfully, I had NFC on prior to my screen breaking, so I didn't have to blindly try and toggle it on. Also turn it on for the new Moto X
2) If you're like me, and your screen won't work, then you can't see the Migrate app. Thankfully, you can just use Touchless Control to open it. "Okay, Google Now. Open Migrate" Give it 15 seconds and it should be open.
3) In my case, I had to tell my new phone to accept Migrations, and tell the old phone to send them. Settings in the top right corner, and then a toggle button in the middle of the screen. (I just used my new Moto X to judge the rough placement on my broken one, and it was easy)
4) Finally, touch the backs of the phone together, and tap the screen on the NEW Moto X to use Android Beam which pairs the phones and begins Migration of old info!
Note: I got the pairing backwards the first time, and sent settings from my new phone to my old one. This didn't appear to hurt anything, but that's why I specify you make the new Moto X the receiver.
Sorry for the HUGE update guys, but this is important information. It saved my ass, to mention an enormous headache. So I hope that anybody else trying to pair Motorola Migrate with a broken screen finds this post!! :good:
So I just ordered my Moto Z4 unlocked from B&H Photo (one of the few online retailers that don't charge sales tax in my state), excited to get it. I've had a Moto Z Play for a long while now, and this is the first time I've gotten a phone right when it came out. It pretty much checks all the boxes for me, I had thought about getting the Oneplus 7 Pro but it was just too expensive.
It'll also be the first time I've rolled with stock on a phone in years. Been a big Cyanogen/Lineage fan for a long time, I make my own signed builds for my Z Play (work email requires a signed ROM). But I want to try and use the 360 camera so I'll see if I can stand stock.
Anybody else waiting for their phone? Mine gets here on Monday.
I'm still working off a Z2force and really love the MotoMods, which has me considering the Z4 even though it's considered "mid-range".... plus $1000 for a phone is ridiculous to me. That 360° camera looks like it could be fun to play with as well. Over the years I've gotten away from constantly modding my phones... my Z2force is rooted, but that used to be necessary to work with some other apps; not so much any more. I'd probably still want to root just to get rid of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and all that kind of crap.
I'll be watching this thread and eagerly looking forward to your review/thoughts/info.
I may wait for few months because I got Z3 Play a couple of months ago.
I like the modules idea especially speaker mod and extra battery.
Root should be here as soon as bootloader unlock available.

Got my phone today, one big thing to note is that the tempered glass screen protectors don't work with the fingerprint sensor on the phone. I'm going to just go without for now and hope for the best, at least the case I ordered fits. 360 camera is neat and works well
Great info on the fingerprint sensor! I typically use Armor Suit (non-glass) matte finish... maybe it's the glass portion that is the issue? Too thick maybe? Great info and I'm looking forward to more and pics too!!
Actually just figured out the case is missing a hole for a microphone on the back of the phone...all the cases on Amazon seem to be missing the hole as well. I just cut out a hole myself for that. Looks like we'll have to wait a while before the crap on Amazon filters out or updates their molds for the actual phone. I guess they made all this stuff purely from the previous leaks.

I'll get my case tomorrow and see if it has the hole itself, but thanks for pointing it out
I'll get bumper if I got Z4 because I have modules for Z3 Play.
Hopefully there's a module to enable "desktop" mode like Samsung Dex
Alas, it looks like the turbo battery module is no longer available

Interesting I wonder why. Maybe on Amazon?
I am also waiting for a Z4. Basically waiting for bootloader unlocks and root, as I am too use to Vanced and Adaway, along with a bumper case for my Battery Mod I always have connected. I have the Sprint Z2 Force I converted to Verizon Variant and it's running well, but really wish Moto would give major updates often.
Looks like Sparin came out with a clear case & glass screen protector actually made for the Z4 & the proper cutouts, ordered today from Amazon we'll see how they go.
I got the US unlocked version yesterday at Best buy. It came with the 360 camera included. Tax and all it was $537. It's not a bad device from my early impression but we'll see in the coming weeks. Waiting for TWRP is torturous. I can take or leave root on most of my devices but something about this phone just makes me want to poke around under the hood. Im ordering a case off Amazon and hope I don't have the same no hole in the back problem I've read about in a few of the other replies in this thread.

OtterBox is offering a Commuter case on their site if you're interested in one. I just ordered mine.
I am keeping my Z2 Force as a backup in my drawer (which relegates my Droid Turbo to third string in this case, finally.) However, for now I'll continue to use it as there is still no Bumper Case for the Z4 for me to use my moto mods and protect the sides. That, and there is no bootloader/TWRP for the device yet. I use the Projector mod (usually in my car, during Champions League/Football Season) and the Turbo Power motomod quite extensively so the lack of bumper is disheartening at the moment.
I assume that those that are talking about TWRP and root, have the unlocked version? I bought the Verizon version, but am afraid to even hope that there will be an upcoming root option available.
Carrier unlocked and bootloader unlocked are different things.
if anyone's looking for a good, slim case & screen protector, it looks like Sparin are the only ones that actually designed a case & protector based off the actual phone and not just leaks. Would still like to have a bumper but this'll do. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RZQWZKL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ; https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RZS5SJ1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Can anyone with this phone confirm whether the fingerprint scanner works from the display off position? IOW, if the phone is face up, but off, on a table, can I power it on and unlock it just by scanning my finger, or do I have to press the power button first?

Good question. Not sure exactly what you mean but I NEVER push a hardware button on this phone except when I want to silence an incoming call when in my belt holster (VolDown) and the power button when I swapped in a new SD card last weekend.

I've just gotten used to not having to pick up the phone or search for a button with my Moto G5+ fingerprint scanner on the front. If my hands are dirty (or full) and I want to quickly turn on the display/unlock, all I have to do is momentarily touch the scanner below the screen. Within .5 sec the screen is up and phone is unlocked.
Most newer phones have the scanner on the back, which precludes doing that. And, quite frankly, it's what appealed to me about this Z4. With Verizon now offering an unlocked version for $120+ tax (and the ability to immediately cancel service), I've pulled the trigger. Gets here tomorrow, so hopefully this won't be an issue.

TWRP and Root, yeah thats what I meant. I won't be buying the Carrier version of the Z4, so I should be fine with that. I just want my adaway and Youtube Vanced.
