I was waiting eagerly for the OP5 but was disappointed by its camera performance. Since the S8 is only 40 bucks more expensive here in Germany I'm considering getting this device.
In some S8 and OP5 comparisons I saw that the OP5 is way snappier than the S8 and I was wondering if this was only due to Samsungs TouchWiz and other bloatware. I REALLY adore the snappyness of the OP5 and I'm wondering if using a custom ROM (like Renovate Ice) will give me the same user experience. In Germany they sell the Exynos version, so the hardware shouldn't be the limiting factor for making it slower than the OP5 I guess. I also saw a youtube review where the S8 with the Renovate Ice 2.0 ROM had way better performance in AnTuTu than on stock (I think 174 compared to 16x000 points).
Can someone tell me, if custom roms make the device snappier? In terms of opening apps, scrolling, browsing, switching between apps, fingerprint reader/iris scanner?
of course.. in some cases.

Snappier than stock? Yes. As good as a OP 5 or 3t? Not quite.
The S8 ist perfectly smooth, but some actions take a little thinking before they fire.
Wether this improves when AOSP hits the S8 remains to be seen.
On another note: take the S8. Once you had that screen everything else just looks dated. Plus the camera is incredible. Everything else will be taken care of by our great devs. It'll just take some time.

Hi Guys,
Did a bit of a camera comparison showing the differences between UltimaROM and UltimaAOSP, highlighting the differences between Samsung and AOSP ROMs like CM/Omni etc. Thought it was worth sharing it here.
In a nutshell, AOSP can take acceptable camera phone shots, but struggles when compared against the stock app. Exposure issues when faced with high contrast scenes and focusing problems on bright lights in addition to a lack of vividness means for some, the AOSP experience will never be complete.
Check out my Instagram to see the quality of some of the shots taken on my S3 using UltimaROM (Samsung base).
Any questions regarding the differences, from someone who values the camera performance of his device, then let me know!
Regards.

I wish I could say aosp better, but cm rocks. Much more details and less light problems
I personally did an even bigger test. AOSP vs. Stock Samsung. With different camera apps and so on.
You can check it out here (Swedish forum, just check under "Testet:".)

Sammy-based ROMs always do better in the photography department. But I still find AOSP/AOKP to be fair enough for everyday pics. That is, if they can get working without FC and autofocus issues

well this is a rather lengthy process, you also need root. I just need to know if anyone is interested or else I wont waste my time posting it.

Sure
If you have it working lets go.... I love sense
To be honest, I will get it and try it, but I won't stay on it. I prefer stock over anything else.

HTC sense 7 launcher is more stock then touchwiz. If you like touchwiz, the amount of time spending on this is not worth it.
To be clear:
You will lose live broadcast from camera, you will be using samsung galaxy s6 camera app (unless someone can change dpi of galaxy note 5 camera app to 640) you will bet less screen real estate due to dpi changing.
I would be interested not rooting for now. Not that I am worried about Samsung Pay, but if I resell this phone not being able to use Samsung Pay may degrade the value if Samsung Pay does catch on
Yea you need root, cause you have to edit build.prop

looks and feel just like an HTC phone, nothing more. it just involve a lot of step to make it work "right"
I plan on getting the HTC after the Huawei Nexus when the successor to the m9 comes out
Hi Folks,
I have a bone stock S4 that has served me well for the past 4 or whatever years. I have tried resetting the phone several times, but it just feels sluggish in normal tasks, and it really shouldn't.
Stability is most important to me though, and admittedly the stock Sprint ROM is not great in that regard. No random reboots or anything, but just slow as hell!
Any input would be great, not sure if anyone is even still using an S4 on Sprint

I'm using a 720T on Boost, but I've been getting really good results from the PACman Lollipop ROM. May be because I live in an area with mediocre signal strength, but network stability has been a pretty big issue with a lot of other ROMs. My phone just seems to work best with PAC. Here's a link:

Thanks for the intel guys
It looks like WickedX is still being supported - I am going to give it a try and see if it works well for me!
I had PAC on my old S3 and I loved it, will give that a go as well

Cyanogyn mod is a great rom despite the unfortunate fact that it shut down and is not receiving updates anymore. Thumbs up if this helps
In another thread OctOS was referenced which can be found at teamoctos.com/oct-n-weekly-lineageos-base/oct-14.1/jfltespr/
I know this probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but I got an new S7 Edge in November after being forced to surrender my perfectly awesome Note 7. I decided today to run some benchmarks on it because it's performance has been questionable.
To qualify:
choppy transitions
choppy app switches
long app launch sequences
long load times for videos and download performance on LTE and 100Mb WiFi
It is performing worse than my old S6 Edge.
I closed all apps, set the High performance settings and benchmarked...
I was shocked by the results.
I ran GeekBench 4, AnTuTu, and 3DMark (which barely ran) and the results were consistent. (Quadrant errored out connecting to the servers) ~30% slower CPU scores, ~50% slower memory, 3DMark scores were horrid, and everything in between.

Can't see the images
Are you sure it's a real official S7 edge, not a counterfeit ?

I haven't posted enough to use external links I guess.
Yeah, I checked with the AnTuTu Validator and it is authentic Samsung bits.
You can look at the results on flickr (just remove the carriage returns)

You should try a factory reset or changing ROM, clean install
There might be some apps draining your performances

not worth it
So what... what is so much different betwen s8 and the "fancy" s9 its basicly the same only with small modifications i really hate that samsung throws not so older devices back in the trash and keeps supporting newer. Whats your opinion xda lads? I know there is only beta out but cmon. Thats f***** up.
How do you know the S8 isn't getting the One UI with the Pie Update? Anything official? Would be kinda ironic to have something called One UI that's not universal?

Maybe he is talking about S8/+ being excluded from the ONE UI Beta Program.. That's why he is complaining.
Maybe. Lol.
Anyone like me. Are stuck on 7.0 for root. Maybe I should be the one complaining:silly:
I'm sure the S7 users felt the same way about us with the Oreo updated beta
One reason I hate Samsung is they are always late in providing software updates.
No. Its always fast as far as the device is not older than 1 year...
