Camera Comparison - AOSP and Samsung ROMs - Galaxy S III General

Hi Guys,
Did a bit of a camera comparison showing the differences between UltimaROM and UltimaAOSP, highlighting the differences between Samsung and AOSP ROMs like CM/Omni etc. Thought it was worth sharing it here.
In a nutshell, AOSP can take acceptable camera phone shots, but struggles when compared against the stock app. Exposure issues when faced with high contrast scenes and focusing problems on bright lights in addition to a lack of vividness means for some, the AOSP experience will never be complete.
Check out my Instagram to see the quality of some of the shots taken on my S3 using UltimaROM (Samsung base).
Any questions regarding the differences, from someone who values the camera performance of his device, then let me know!
Regards.

I wish I could say aosp better, but cm rocks. Much more details and less light problems

I personally did an even bigger test. AOSP vs. Stock Samsung. With different camera apps and so on.
You can check it out here (Swedish forum, just check under "Testet:".)

Sammy-based ROMs always do better in the photography department. But I still find AOSP/AOKP to be fair enough for everyday pics. That is, if they can get working without FC and autofocus issues

Camera problems

Hi,
Been using various itje roms since i got my phone (but 8 months ago) I noticed after I put on the touch vista rom that my camera was taking awful pictures. I dont think it should be rom related, I just tried the touch 7 rom and it was the same. I prefer the vista one so ive gone back to that. Is it worth going back to an official release and trying ?
Ive gone through all the settings, its on 2MP shooting to sd card, on single shot mode (all modes including video have the same look) Ive checked all the settings i can think of. Whitebalance is auto. Effect is None. Quality is 2M (1600X1200) Fine.
Ill attach a picture to show you. I really hope it is software based and not the camera itself. Phone has been well looked after so it really should not be damaged. Externally it looks fine.

honestly i would try touch it 4 and see what happens
but when you say it takes horrible pics is it blurred like give us a discription
I included a picture which I thought was fairly self explanitory. The pics look like they have been posterised. The colors are separating distinctly, almost like its working with a limted colour set.
well it could be that the connection from the camera to the phone is a bit outta place but dont quote me lol
i work for motorola XD

galaxy vs nexus camera

does anyone else find that the nexus takes much better still pictures than the galaxy.
Better contrast, saturation, less noise, better focus, especially in low light conditions.
Here are 2 examples, both at the same settings, except the galaxy i activated anti-shake, which seems to reduce the graininess a little.
Sure the galaxy pic looks fine when shrunk down by 50% but compared at full size, imo it looks like crap compared to the nexus

Picture quality is indeed very poor on the SGS, maybe even worse than the HTC Hero I had before...pics look very blurry, almost useless really...hope future roms can improve this...(little hope).
After using the camera i feel that the auto focus system used aint that great and is the real failing point of the camera. Overall, pictures are soft and not well focused, and i just can never seem to focus on close subjects. E.g. when i try to take a picture of an insect, it focuses till its clear but then backs out and gives me the red box.
I think my Captivate cam is great.

To large for the forum.
those captivate pics are better than my galaxy.
i tried a second galaxy and the image quality was quite improved over the first one ....wether it is the firmware or the hardware i have no idea, but i have a feeling they are using different sensors at random.
with an HD video camera, you would think it would also take decent still images
....they either come out very grainy or out of focus
also my SGS camera is very poor, i hope that it can be improved by future software. Previously i had an Nokia E90 3M camera and it was way better.

LeEco makes necessary changes in Camera #SuperPhone loving it !!!

Hello guys, I am Rakesh and I’m a big fan of LeEco Smartphones. This is my personal review about the camera of my Le 1s. Initially, I was bit disappointed because of the camera output of my Le 1s, though it was equipped with a 13 MP shooter there were issues with low light performance of the camera and pictures having redness.

LeEco surprised me with the new OTA update. It has resolved all issues related to camera and it has changed totally after the update. I never thought camera clarity could be altered to this extent through software updates. A big thumbs-up for the tech team for taking note of the feedback from the SuperFans.
The new interface is very simple and gives control over the features like delayed photos, Shutter sound and Exposure etc. The 13 megapixel camera of the Le 1S now supports HDR mode.
One thing I loved about the camera is its ability to shoot 4K videos and it can capture slow motion videos. Yes, it does shoot panorama as well.
Even the front 5 MP camera does a good job in low light conditions. It is good enough for selfies and the new beauty mode is simply awesome.
Hope LeEco will bring in more surprises for their users. Eagerly waiting for new OTA updates, a diehard #Superfan….!!

[Buying decision] Will a custom ROM increase snappyness?

I was waiting eagerly for the OP5 but was disappointed by its camera performance. Since the S8 is only 40 bucks more expensive here in Germany I'm considering getting this device.
In some S8 and OP5 comparisons I saw that the OP5 is way snappier than the S8 and I was wondering if this was only due to Samsungs TouchWiz and other bloatware. I REALLY adore the snappyness of the OP5 and I'm wondering if using a custom ROM (like Renovate Ice) will give me the same user experience. In Germany they sell the Exynos version, so the hardware shouldn't be the limiting factor for making it slower than the OP5 I guess. I also saw a youtube review where the S8 with the Renovate Ice 2.0 ROM had way better performance in AnTuTu than on stock (I think 174 compared to 16x000 points).
Can someone tell me, if custom roms make the device snappier? In terms of opening apps, scrolling, browsing, switching between apps, fingerprint reader/iris scanner?
of course.. in some cases.
Sent from my Samsung SM-G950F using XDA Labs
Usually but not always....

Snappier than stock? Yes. As good as a OP 5 or 3t? Not quite.
The S8 ist perfectly smooth, but some actions take a little thinking before they fire.
Wether this improves when AOSP hits the S8 remains to be seen.
On another note: take the S8. Once you had that screen everything else just looks dated. Plus the camera is incredible. Everything else will be taken care of by our great devs. It'll just take some time.

TEST RESULTS
Only thing keeping me from using MIUI is gcam, the quality of the camera is just too good to pass up, though the battery usage of MIUI roms are usually much better.

For me, besides gcam, its the screen burn-in issue.

There's an app that sort of solves the issue, ghost something, can't really remember it, if I had the cam quality in MIUI i'd definately use it,
