G6 camera support for HDR - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Can anyone please confirm whether the G6 can shoot 4K video with HDR enabled?
I have been looking everywhere and no one seems to mention that detail - couldn't find anything on the manual either. I know for sure that e.g. the S5 doesn't support HDR whilst shooting 4K. Is that also the case for G6? Not sure about the S7 either. Can anyone please confirm what's the case here?

Anyone? Please??
Is there any phone that currently supports HDR in 4K video recording?
(even though I would like to know in particular for the G6/S7)
Thank you in advance

I am back!, 720p or 1080p Video? is it possible? what is highest resolution?

I am back! been in the Hospital and finally got out! so many things to catch up on.. anyway..
What is the highest resolution other than the Stock resolution that the HD2 camera might be able to achieve? What other mods in the future might be done to benefit the Video? with so many ROM's out there,
I wonder if anyone has looked at what can be achieved on the camera? or have we hit the edge of what we can do?
I looked at the "Samsung Vibrant" camera and was impressed on low light capabilities, and if the same can be done on the HD2? or any other Future mods other than what is already out there? I have BsB but limited?
I have seen someone working on a 7MP mod to the panorama setting? but still not working? have to check if it works now?
Thanks for anyone's thoughts on this.

[Q] Camera Issues: Skewed Images

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that the photos taken with the default camera app is a little skewed at the edges?
The camera is great for macro shots but when shots are taken from a distance, I can't help but notice that the subjects on the edges get distorted or stretched.
It would be nice if we shared our experiences on this. After all, this phone was touted to have the best camera at the time of the launch.
Thanks.

I feel this may be a hardware issue and not just a software glitch as I have noticed the same distortions with the in-built Charm Cam App. It could possibly have something to do with the lens alignments or maybe it's just an isolated case with my phone. But I have no means to verify my allegations as I don't have another phone to carry out comparisons.
In any case, I request other owners to please share your findings with regards to the image quality on this camera.

The primary reason i found for noise is that iso gets too high in auto mode.it might just be software issue. But we dont have other phone with same hardware(OV 16825)
Since kernal sources are avilable i hope they provide some light
Also as the camera is capable of [email protected] 60fps i would like if some dev removes this constrain of [email protected]

I took a 1080p video and found no distortion along edges this in theory proves it is not due to hardware problem i.e. lens alingment

who said we dont have image stabilization...check the ov16825 details on website..it has EIS..i know its not that great compared to OIS or OIS+...and for ur question y ppl want 4k videos...they can record 4k videos which they can preserve as a memory for later on...why we click pics record video for capturing memory only na...i know getting a 4k TV is not easy as it cost too much...but if the system has the functionality why cant we enable it with the powers of devs...

Can you take 4k photos and videos?

So, I am willing to buy this phone. So, can you take 4k photos and videos?
May be with Google Camera or any other camera app?
The answer is no. I tried to record 4K with various camera apps, and 1080p is maximum. I hope someone will make mod to record 4k, because we have hardware that is capable to do it. In good lighting conditions camera is ok, but in indoors and low light it is not good at all. Videos are ok at best.

Software HDR decoding from Pixel XL

Has anyone looked into this already?

Since the Axon 7 has exactly the same panel as the Pixel XL it'd be nice to see HDR support on it, even though it might look worse

Thanks, I didn't know about that mod.
After installing it, I managed to enable HDR options for the videos, but we lose the 1440p resolution, the videos don't play smooth anymore and the image quality is even worse. Using either S8 or Pixel XL manufacturers/models.
At least I have black theme and background playback.

YouTube locks HDR videos to 1080p for anything that is not a pc or chromecast ultra. Normal videos should be unchanged and still have 1440p

No, do not use unofficial versions only use the official one
@KevinX8,
Hi, as far as I can see, there is no 1440P for video, so what is the issue with your phone, can you make itmore clear? Thanks!

Google has limited HDR on android to 1080p, if you want a higher res HDR you must use a chromecast ultra or supported pc

What are the model/manufacturers you have to use? I used 'google' and 'Pixel XL' but it seemingly wasn't right xd

Have you fixed your phone's problem? Which model are you apply when this issue happen on your phone? Usually, there is no 1440 for video, are you sure?

This was not a problem at all. The thing is that enabling HDR for Youtube limits the quality to 1080p hdr. This is basically a technical limitation and is not a problem of the phones.

It's a limitation put in place by Google themselves to sell more chromecast ultras, only them and pcs are allowed to stream 4k HDR from youtube

Why does G6 camera algorithm over-process videos

The G6 has a fantastic offering in terms of its tele and wide lens. The stock app is very good. But the videos are too over-processed. Why? Cant LG engineers understand such a simple thing? How difficult it is to provide controls for saturation/sharpness/contrast (color profile) ? To my knowledge there are no custom/third party apps that does all that the stock app does and also provide these controls. Filmic pro does not provide setting 60fps at 1080p and there is doubt about other functions too. Hope LG is listening..
Well, the problem also persist on G7. So I don't think it will be fixed soon. Try HedgeCam2, it's pretty clean camera app, without any preprocessing.

Just tried it. Many bugs for video. Stabilization cant be turned on. Video goes blank from time to time, cant select between the two cameras.. So looks like we are stuck with their custom app..
What a shame LG. How can you miss such a basic feature in an otherwise wonderful app.
G7 has LG cinelog setting

The cinelog is an option that comes with G7 and V30. This can be enabled to get a much flat video with higher dynamic range. My understanding is this is the function of the AD converter that converts the voltages received from the sensor's photo receptors and converts it onto a digital form. LG make their own camera modules so they totally control this process.
The G6 doesnt have this camera module and so cant do it.
But LG is definitely on right track...
