This guide was almost directly taken out of XIAOMI.EU website. I just wanted to spead the wisdom and grow Mi Max 2 community.
If your device is not locked:
Install TWRP via Fastboot mode, then install XIAOMI.EU ROM.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot boot twrp.img
For root install SuperSU 2.82 in TWRP
If your device is locked:
Unlock your first bootloader here http://en.miui.com/unlock/. You will need a PC and it might take about 72 hours.
Install TWRP via Fastboot mode, then install our ROM.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot boot twrp.img
Wipe /data partition
Copy XIAOMI.EU ROM to the internal storage
Install the ROM with TWRP
Reboot

Unlocked Bootloader Hassle?
Hi all, I am considering buying the Mi Max 2 (sale today, they finally have a black version).
And of course TWRP/root it. I already own the Mi Pad 2, and the issue I see here is that after bootloader unlocking I get confronted with this nasty warning screen on every boot. Even worse, it does not continue booting until I confirm (press volume up key). This is even true for battery loading animation. Extremely annoying.
Do you see that same behavior on your unlocked Mi Max 2?
Thank you for quick reply!
No such issue

I do not have such issues after TWRP+root. I listed some of the other issues that I have in my review. However, I think none of those are very major and most of them can be fixed be software update (or possible me finding the right settings for the phone).

Thanks, I placed an order, at USD 249 for a black Mi Max 2, cannot really go wrong. Let's see how this SD625 performs in real life. I have a Letv X900 with an excellent display and super-smooth experience, so I am somewhat spoiled. But it does have limited battery life, so I expect this to be drastically better with the new Mi Max architecture. Not sure though if I prefer smooth performance or longer SOT.

hey how backup stock recovery?
1. boot twrp recovery, do not flash it permanently, like so:
fastboot boot "name of twrp recovery.img"
2. while in twrp, do a nandroid backup including the stock recovery.
3. if you wish you can then flash permanently the twrp recovery within twrp itself or else reboot to system.
I have mine unlocked today. Recovery is on the Max 2 but when I flash the latest Miui 8 Global - the phone stuck at the bootlogo...
Does it need Internet connection while unlocking the bootloader?
Can I use the phone while unlocking it? Does it need Internet connection and what is the requirements by doing this? Does it need to be always connected on a PC?
What if I just want root while keeping the stock ROM, how would I go about doing that? Do I still need to install TWRP?

to get root you need to flash either SuperSU or Magisk. it can be done via TWRP only.. there are other methods you can root without TWRP recovery but TWRP is the easiest and safest way..
after flashing root solution you can always go back to stock recovery over TWRP recovery but it is just pointless doing so

request to have the bootloader unlocked then.
I assume we'll have to manually install google apps. I'm updating it via the updater app and seeing if that'll work even tho I've got twrp .
Is it better flashing with Recovery or Fastboot?
Why the Full ROM size is 1,5 GB and the Fastboot is 1,7 GB?

I was able to use the updater app to install the recovery rom no problem. very smooth.
But now my work application doesn't work because something to do w/ work profile not supported maybe.
Hi.If you flash fastboot rom do u loose the TWRP recovery
Yes I lost twrp.
But the bootloader remains unlocked. Are u able to flash twrp and root again?
Can someone tell me if I'll be able to get OTA updates if I install this global rom? Thanks

I think you should be able to. When I used the MIUI Updater app, it rebooted into TWRP to auto-install the Global firmware with no issues on the touchscreen. But it's possible to think that twrp may need to be updated to be used w/ Global like it did in RC1 or RC2.

It would make sense to do it this way. Once you have global, any new global updates would be updated via the MIUI Updater OTA.
Thanks. And how do I find the rom.No FC or random reboot issues.Google app fc's
Flashed using MI flash tool and relocked boot loader so I could have android pay. Did a factory reset after flash and have had no problems so far. Stable clean rom. Had issues with flash tool that resolved when I out all the files in a folder at the root (I put them in c:\rom). Flash tool didn't like a long nested folder name (sip aid the name was too long)

So does Android Pay works?
Yes once you lock the boot loader. Safety net helper comes up green and I can add my card. You do have to update play services after ROM install as it's been updates since the rom was built. After your first reboot after installing new rom you will get a notification to update play services

Mine works fine. I had other issues w/ google but I ended up resetting the phone to factory and everything runs as expected without major issues.
The Global Rom still has the
1. wallpaper carousel issue if using 3rd party launcher
2. cannot search for bluetooth devices for the Xiaomi auto unlock feature, the google option can add the devices, but it doesn't unlock the screen
3. google map feature does not work w/ a dual app that I use.
Can someone install football manager mobile 2017 and test? I have force crash. And ps I purchased on play store
Hey All, just got a MIX so I'm a newbie and apologies if my question has been covered extensively in a past thread.
The rom that came with my mix was xiaomi.eu. I used the Recovery Method to flash the Official Global Rom. However, when I did I didn't loose any data AT ALL.........it took a while for the recovery flash to go through (like 5-10 minutes), but then my phone just rebooted and all my apps, wallpaper, etc were there.
I checked, and the current MIUI Version is MIUI Global 8.2 Stable 8.2.1.0 (MAHMIDL).
Also, I tried to use Android Pay, got the error message, downloaded and ran the CTS app, and still failed. Does this mean I should get my bootloader unlocked (already submitted request) and fast flash and relock the bootloader??
Hi all,
Last week i received my new MI A1. IT worked perfectly during 3 days, with 2 OTA updates to Android 8. (December and January OTA i remember)
Then, one night my MI A1 just shutdown itself without doing anything (i was sleeping)
And in the morning i tryed to reboot it but i had everytime a freeze and reboot when it asked to enter my PIN CODE. (i tryed without my SIM it was the same, big freeze and reboot)
Si i went to the MI website (xiaomifirmware.com/roms/download-official-roms-xiaomi-mi-a1/) to download the XiaoMiFlash Tools and the ROM (Android 8.0.0 Oreo (OPR1.170623.026.8.1.10) | Fastboot)
It worked to flash the MI A1 but i cannot start the phone, i had the Screen ENCRYPTION UNSUCCESFULL
When i clicked to Resert the phone, it reboot and came to the same screen. (I can host a video if ou want to see)
I've tryed to use FASTBOOT Unlock / TWRP 3.1 to wipe the system but still the same.
Do you have any idea please ?
Thank you in advance for your help

Hi,
I've tested with Nougat (tissot_images_7.8.23_20170823.0000.00_7.1_61cf97d794) as flash and lock.
and that doesn't work. Still in like a bootloop.
i've tried also to go through twrp 3.2.1 but a a little bit lost.
Which FULL ROM do i need to take as ZIP file in TWRP ?
Also, do i need a SD CARD to completly reinstall Android ?
thanks in advance.

Nope. Lineage ROM can be stored in internal storage and flashed. Also, if you aren't able to solve the encryption issue, I suggest you to go to your nearest service center and get help. They do it for free, even if you're rooted or modified the system.

I cannot go to service center because i'm in France.
I've tryed to flash Lineage15.1 but doesnt work.
May be an idea, i've seen in TWRP that i don't have a cache partition. Is that normal ? If not, how do i create it ?
Flash your device from edl mode
If doesnt work it seems that your emmc is faulty
Many huawei phones with faulty emmc shows such this encryption failed message and by changing emmc become functional
I think we need a concise guide to how to get TWRP up and running on the K88 Trek 2 HD because I'm stuck and I don't want to flash the wrong thing and brick it
1 - Downloaded jasminetool, jasmine-twrp-7.1-r3.img, and zadig-2.4.exe
2 - Enabled USB debugging on K88
3 - Rebooted to EDL mode via adb reboot edl
4 - Used zadig-2.4.exe to install WinUSB driver
5 - Used jasminetool read recovery stockrecovery.img and got success - img file is 49,152kb
6 - Used jasminetool write recovery jasmine-twrp-7.1-r3.img (24,576kb?) and got success
7 - System reboots and restores stock recovery
I tried preventing the automatic reboot and when I try to go to recovery with volume+ and pwr it just flips up the logo and reboots like there's a problem, I presume the system is restoring the stock recovery because of this. System is Android 6.0.1 kernel 3.10.84
What should I do?
Also, my goal is to get a normal dialer for cell phone calling on the tablet and I'm just assuming that AOKP does since no one answered when I asked in the rom thread so if someone could also answer that question for me before I go to all this effort for no real reason that would be great
Currently operating under the assumption I need to manually update to official 7.1 (jasmine-7.1.1b15-full.zip) via the stock recovery then repeat the above steps since I now notice that version matches the twrp version

Thanks, yeah I did get TWRP running just fine once I upgraded to a 7.1 stock rom. Now I guess I'll just be awaiting a rom that actually can dial on the cellular network. Seems like a great device now that it has recovery hopefully we'll see a lot more development on it as people get to be aware of it.
Hi guys, I have 2 more weeks of waiting until I can unlock my bootloader.
I don't even want to flash a new rom (since debloating MIUI 10 seems pretty fine to me) but I want to root it, therefor I need TWRP (also thinking about flashing the xiaomi.eu rom since I can update it via TWRP as well).
Long story short: what TWRP version is the current one (functional and not in chinease) since there is nothing available on twrp.me and I'm not really sure what's up.
Thank you so much for your reply! Cheers! :fingers-crossed:
You can use the one made by josalaito, you can find it in the ROMs section. Or you can use the one in the Xiaomi.EU official page. There's not much to choose from, to be honest.

Don't hurry up, wait untill you unlock the bootloader. You may get more stable TWRP version.
I have downloaded several 'beta' recovery images. 2 different versions of wzsx150, OrangeFox and TWRP. None of them are working with 'fastboot boot recovery.img' After the successful upload, I get a redmi starting screen, nothing else. Is it working for you?
What happens if I upload a bad recovery. Do I have the possibility to overwrite it again with an other file? Does the stock ROM include the recovery?
Thanks for help!

I tried ln team recovery but I just flashed it.I booted to recovery from fastboot(by holding vol up and power till Redmi logo appears than just the vol up button).
I changed the language to English, than went to Advanced tab. There you will find forceencrpt and dm verity disabler.Select both of them and swipe the confirm button.
After that I recommend keeping Magisk 19.0 zip on sd card or internal storage.Flash it and you are rooted.
Your whole data would be erased of course.

Let us hope so.
I would like to apologize in advance as I am a noob when it comes to the recent changes made by Google to android. So on a lot of the recent devices launched with android 10, an essential step before flashing Magisk is to disable the vbmeta partition by flashing the "vbmeta.img" using a fastboot command with the --disable-verify and --disable-verification argument. My question is that is the "vbmeta.img" modified by developers or is this the same identical file found in the stock firmware files?
I do apologize if this is the wrong thread but there's not many resources online or even on xda for this device.
Why its in mi note 10 general section? Isnt right to do separately section for mi note 10 lite since there is nothing in common just name.

Nowadays you have to unmount Data and mount vendor (just in case for Vendor) before flashing Magisk. Mounting data does not let Magisk install via TWRP. Follow the this process, same install process with the Mi Note 10, and assuming the Mi note 10 Lite. The reason why is because of encryption.
Update: 5/16/2020
1) Flash lastest TWRP unofficial 3.31-4 mauronofrio using Command prompt using the - fastboot flash recovery [XXXX].img. Note: it's easier to just rename the recover image to "twrp"
2) Then - fastboot boot [XXXX].img to reboot into TWRP recovery.
3) In my experience for thr Mi Note 10 that is, the reboot to RECOVERY did not happened, so instead i pressed - volume up and power button at the same time for thr phone to reboot until you see the boot splash screen, hold the two buttons for another 3 seconds ... and then let go of power button and then TWRP recovery will show up.
4) Ok...so first things first... flash the VBMETA PATCHER like the OP says on first page --> that way you don't lose TWRP after flashing the Rom and MAGISK. After install, reboot to RECOVERY. ***This is only if OP asks to flash VBMETA PATCHER, otherwise skip to Step 5***
5) Now....go to FORMAT DATA (Warning: DON'T use advanced wipe)... Instead, go to the FORMAT DATA, type in yes and press ok. Then go back to main menu, and reboot to RECOVERY again.
6) Now you can access your internel memory when connecting to USB... You can import the two neccesary files --> Xiaomi.EU and MAGISK 20.4. Now Flash the Rom and when flash MAGISK, make sure you unmount DATA and mount VENDOR to avoid flash error. After unticking DATA, you can now install Magisk.
7) Now you can go to REBOOT, and press SYSTEM, and the phone will boot to Xiaomi EU 11 or 12, etc. just follow this process and enjoy your ROM. ?
Note: When updating, flash EU rom and Magisk, dont forget to unmount Data when flashing Magisk. You can probably disable decryption because that is why you can't mount Data when flashing Magisk. **Just don't ask me about it because I normally don't flash Disable Decyption often.

The root and flash process is basically the same process as the Mi 9T/K20, Mi Max 3, Mi Note 10 since decryption is now a common thing with Android 10... except for the VBmeta.zip, which is new and necessary to flash, as long as you follow the directions..you'll be fine.

I understand. Last experience ti flash etc was on a mi5, so I have a little bit of rust with that. I do think that following instructions i shouldn't face major difficulties

Same here, i was on the Mi 9T before, I didnt understood the whole new flashing process and carefully updating from EU Rom to AOSP Roms and back, I think i was messing with with thwe wipe and change partition feature (f2fs to ext 4 with an EU Rom) - then the Mi 9T bricked big time. Never recovered after that, luckily got it refunded for it but not many may have that second chance. After learning how to flash propeely and root, ect. I try to help out here when needed and ask too. I just got my Mi Note 10 2 weeks ago and rooted a week ago. So if anything, am willing to help out and repeat the following flash process or any changes in the future and feedback on future Roms.
Was thinking about which rom to use... does xiaomi.eu is stille faster with providing updates? what about the situation with OTA with that.
Now I have the phone with global rom, I want at least flash the EEA rom. But I also know that at some point i want to root, install magisk and get nice features. Still don't want to update manually everytime for an update...
will be watching this thread with much interest..
I recently bought this device (Global version) for use here in Australia.
my first time owning a Xiaomi - quite happy with it so far.
would be nice to have the themeing stuff work properly - I have used MIUI based ROMs back a LOoonggg time ago, in the days of the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus etc.
used to have a new ROM flashed every couple of days lol, back then. But recent years I've stopped all that, no cool ROMs no snazzy kernels TWRP no nothing not even root lol, very boring!
anyway thanks for posting I hope to try this sometime soon

yes, there is the EEA ROM you can find on miui website. You can flash it after unlocking bootloader with miFlash

I'm not sure if you mean the official ROM or xiaomi.eu.
The link to the official EEA(EU) ROM:
Recovery: https://bigota.d.miui.com/V11.0.7.0.QFNEUXM/miui_TOCOEEAGlobal_V11.0.7.0.QFNEUXM_7926bf9c02_10.0.zip
Fastboot: https://bigota.d.miui.com/V11.0.7.0...EUXM_20200508.0000.00_10.0_eea_4eb1c694c9.tgz
I have yesterday seen a xiaomi.eu Stable build for toco which is based on Global Stable ROM:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xi...e10LITE_V11.0.4.0.QFNMIXM_v11-10.zip/download
I can not promise that it's working.
