Broken fingerprint sensor - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hey everyone. My fingerprint reader on my s7 has a scratch on it. I can no longer add a new fingerprint but it does still read the ones I have saved now.
Is there anyway to "backup" the saved fingerprint security data? I have root access and have tried various backups in TB but they haven't worked. But they must be saved on the phone somewhere. I did see a biometrics folder maybe that's it? Not sure hoping someone here has figured this out.
Thanks [emoji106]

[Q] apps that use fingerprint scanner

I just got my 6P and was wondering what real apps use it. I am a last pass user but surely there are more. Searching is a pain with all the fake ones.

what do u wanna do with it?
some applications use it for login for instance
:good:
I wouldn't mind locking down a few apps. I have yet to run across any apps that let you log in. Care to give a few examples?

I use the fingerprint scanner to log into last pass. Works great, and I love not having to put in a password so it can fill in other apps' login info.
Authenticator Plus lets you login with a fingerprint instead of a PIN, but unfortunately, it doesn't work when rooted.
I just switched from keeper to dashlane for passwords. Dashlane uses the fingerprint scanner. I was surprised.
Focus gallery has fingerprint security to lock down pictures in the vault.

Another vote for Authenticator plus. It is a much better 2 factor authentication program than the google offering. I am stock and rooted and able to use it without difficulty. What error do you get? Could it be a Chroma issue?

I'm not sure where the issue lies. I never tried it on the stock ROM since I installed Chroma almost immediately after getting the phone. In the app's security settings, it says "Your device is rooted" on top and the fingerprint option is grayed out, I can only use the PIN lock.

Are you having any issues with Chrome's scrolling performance? I found that Lastpass was causing this issue for me and I had to uninstall it... but damn that fill-in feature was great for the day I used it

Chrome seems to scroll fine to me. Was the issue you were having that it scrolled slowly, or not at all?

I was using that for a while too but the random soft reboots forced me to uninstall xposed. Did you find a way around this?

Bypass MyTouch 4G slide pattern without Gmail or knowing slide pattern - possible?

My sister passed away awhile ago. We have been slowly going through her stuff and found her old MyTouch 4G she had.
We can't get past the slide pattern, don't know what Gmail account she signed up with (or it's password), but don't want to factory restore/hard restart it. We want to access it and try to get the pictures.
Is this possible at all? Can we do it.
Let me know. It would be a great help. We hope to back-up all her data to remember her by. Let me know. Thanks.
Hello. I'm sorry for your loss. I do not have a workaround for you, but it might be useful to know that the mt4g does not have internal storage, so there wouldn't be any pictures stored on it. All storage was with an external sd card.

Where are my saved WiFi passwords?

Man, I am getting old. I just got this phone a couple of days ago and already reset it twice looking for my saved passwords. I am not rooted and am not planning to, so I do not have access to root folders. I have ES file explorer pro but cannot access the fix I found when searching google. Any one know how a simple way to restore saved wifi passwords on the Nexus 6p?
Thanks in advance.

If you did not have them backed up with Google then I think the only way you can get at them is with a root app

Resetting the phone is always a good way of retrieving something.
Thanks. I did back it up. Never had this issue before with my OnePlus and other phones.

On my previous phones, it would show in saved networks. Now it's not there.

You can just re-enter the passwords if you can't remember them, just ask the owner of the WiFi for it.
Yup. Pretty much

I don't have Package Disabler Pro... Just any issue in system..

I have this issue but unfortunately is official rom. I ll make a factory reset to see if it fixes something.
You can speed it up by choosing what you don't want backed up - like media stored on your SD Card.
If you are having issues and do a factory reset, you may choose to not restore settings and limit it to only applications and and other user info on the phone besides what's on the SD card.
Go into preferences, set them up for what you really want, and then make the backup and see how it runs.
I made a factory reset, unfortunately the issue is still present. I downloaded clean master to see if at least the app checks the storage and it didn't have any issue.
It's somehow frustrating. I received also the August Security Update. I thought that this might fix it but it didn't.
Hi, same issue here... Very frustrating on new phone... Did you find any solution?

Unfortunately no, but as I had a bad qi charger that was charging wireless my phone in 4h30min, I have sent the phone in service. Samsung connected remote and they couldn't solve the problem with the smart manager.
Did you manage to find a fix for this? Cos it's really bugging me on my phone..!
Thanks and cheers

Smart Switch: amazing "hidden" feature

I just discovered that you can use Smart Switch to back up to a SD Card. You can back up EVERYTHING. Just hit the menu button in the top right and choose "External storage transfer." I really thought this app was obsolete since Samsung Cloud is available, so I'm glad I took one more look at it before uninstalling.
I use Samsung Cloud for back up already, but that method seriously let me down recently when I had to factory reset during some troubleshooting. So, here is the backup backup method.
Sorry if this is old news. I tried searching for a thread on this, but didn't find one. (Not a fan of the search on the new XDA app, btw)
I've used this to switch models several times, notably during the note 7 fiasco (twice) Every time, the agent at the store is amazed I didn't need to do a Wi-Fi or cable transfer.

I never knew this. I'm using it now though. Thanks.
