Man, I am getting old. I just got this phone a couple of days ago and already reset it twice looking for my saved passwords. I am not rooted and am not planning to, so I do not have access to root folders. I have ES file explorer pro but cannot access the fix I found when searching google. Any one know how a simple way to restore saved wifi passwords on the Nexus 6p?
Thanks in advance.

If you did not have them backed up with Google then I think the only way you can get at them is with a root app

Resetting the phone is always a good way of retrieving something.
Thanks. I did back it up. Never had this issue before with my OnePlus and other phones.

On my previous phones, it would show in saved networks. Now it's not there.

You can just re-enter the passwords if you can't remember them, just ask the owner of the WiFi for it.
Yup. Pretty much

When I get the message up in the notification area that "Updates are available".
It seems to display something along the lines of "Updates are available &&n&p".
Or something along those lines. What the hell is the rubbish after available all about? It's driving me nuts.
And it doesn't take much to drive me nuts let me tell you
Between the update message weirdness and the Unfortunately gaaps has stopped crap whenever I boot back up etc. Arghh. And don't get me started on the remote restore function using ADB which doesn't seem to work anymore since the latest update.
OK rant over But seriously. What's up with the "Updates are available" message?
I did perform a factory reset BTW. Which is when I found out remote restore seems to be broken.
Cheers

it means that you have some apps that have updates available in the play store. you can turn off the notification in the play store settings, then they wont bug you.
I knew what the message meant I just don't know what the rest of the gobbledygook is after the word available.

I have that issue too... Not on all apps, and I can't remember which apps I got it from...
How do you have a device with a simple native way to take a screen shot.. And not post one as an example of the "gobbledygook" in question for us to look at?
I have tried to get a screen shot. But just like most other notifications. It's gone before you grab it.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
ooh that feeling when you think you captured it only to look at the shot And see nothing but your home screen
Yep.
I even tried sitting there with my fingers on the buttons waiting for the updates message.
But you never get it when you want it :'(

when you did the factory reset.. Did you do this in custom recovery or in settings on the tablet.. Are you stock ?
Did you use anything to restore your apps such as ti backup adb restore (does not always work).
If you are on a custom rom or have been in the past.. I would suggest you do a FULL Format of your tablet system cache dalvic DATA and all...reboot the tab back into recovery adb push stock new downloaded rom to tab or use usb otg and flash brand new rom... Then see if you still have issues.. DO NOT RESTORE A BACKUP you could be putting the issues back on device..
The way the NO SD Card devices use data. you can have issues linger from a older rom or pop up after flashing.
Be CAUTIOUS ABOUT DELETING DATA ON This device. IT WILL WIPE A DOWNLOADED ROM.. and otg storage with twrp or adb push will be required to get a rom back on device to flash..
Good Luck..
No mate. Just on rooted stock.
I initiated the restore from within settings I believe.
I did two backups originally just in case.
One from ADB and one from My Backup Pro.
It backed up fine using ADB. When restoring it, I had the initial quick reboot. Then when I had the restore my data screen on the Nexus, I hit the Restore button and the Nexus rebooted back to the home screen.
The PC restore was running, but nothing got restored.
I then gave up and restored using My Backup Pro.
But after restoring everything. I keep getting the Gaaps has stopped message.
So time to backup my games and wipe again in the future.
I'll then restore everything else direct from the Play Store, to hopefully get rid off the Google Apps problem.
As for the weird symbols after the Updates are available message, they have been there since 4.2.1 though.
Looks like I'm putting up with this.
I'll grab it on a screen grab eventually
Cheers.

It does sound like there is something in your backups that is stopping them from restoring.. Make sure when you restore a backup you are restoring APPS AND APP DATA ONLY.. not system data and system apps.. Such as google apps being system apps.. This often restores old data on top new and causes big issues. With the fcs really sounds like this is the case..
I Think a Good WIPE and Fresh flash will help you out...
Good Luck ..

OK, just to add to this, I saw exactly this "updates available amp&n&p" notification this evening . . . . but on my HTC One X, which is stock, unrooted.
The apps updating are: -
ConvertPad
HDWidgets
SoundHound
WhatsApp
Facebook
Doubt its related, but the WhatsApp update bugged out. That was probably my 3g connection though, which is patchy round here.

It seems my suspicions were correct concerning the &&anp or whatever it is that gets displayed at the end of the Updates are available message you get in the notifications are from the Play Store.
I noticed that my Samsung Galaxy S3 is showing the same thing.
It's gotta be a Play Store bug.
Because my S3 is running 4.11 and my Nexus 7 is running 4.2.1.
It almost looks like variables not getting parsed correctly.
As this only happens when there is more than one update available it seems.
And both my devices are on different versions of Jelly Bean.
And I still can't grab the screen fast enough. As you never know when the updates notifications from the Play Store will appear.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Why are the notifications not staying in the drop down?
Do you have the market Set to auto update, otherwise I have to hit the notification in order to open the store.
Unless you aren't talking about the notification area but the the ticker in the status bar up top?
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if it's possible to do an adb backup from an old nexus S, and import it to the nexus 4. The nexus 4 is not rooted or unlocked, but the nexus S is. I'm trying to keep the nexus 4 as close to stock since it doesn't require me to mess with it.
I know the data on the internal sdcard will be easy to migrate, I'm more worried about everything else like the text messages and angry birds game stats.
Thanks,
Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
You can try to move it move to the nexus 4 but I doubt the text messages will appear on the n4. Maybe some things won't even appear on the n4 after the move. Moving data to another device should work but its the matter of the phone reading it and appearing in the UI.

For text messages I use MyBackup Pro, very easy to backup and restore texts. For apps I use DataSync, you sync the data for the apps you select to something like dropbox then sync to the next device. In the paid version you can do autosyncs of data between multiple devices. Koush's carbon backup paid version does the same thing but I find DataSync easier to use and the free version will sync to and from dropbox.
MySMS will archive all your text messages and sync them with your new phone. For a backup of your apps and all their settings use Carbon Backup. It doesn't need root if you plug your phone into their cool desktop client. If your phone is rooted, it will backup everything to the cloud. It took me less than an hour to get my new Nexus 4 configured just like my Galaxy Nexus using Carbon.

I just remembered that DataSync requires root so I would use carbon backup too but you would need the paid version ($4.99) to restore from an external source such as dropbox. The free version only allows you to backup to an external source but it shouldn't be too hard to move them over manually.

Thanks everyone. I ended up doing all this last night with a combination of adb pull /sdcard, carbon, SMS backuprestore and call backup restore. Worked out petty well.

So, being a paranoid, I wanna take precautions regarding my N4, so in case it's stolen I might have a chance of recovering it. What app(s) should I install to track it? I heard Cerberus is ok? I activated ADM but I see that unless I have data/wifi on, it doesn't find it. I have location access on. Do all these tracking apps need to have data on before being stolen lol? thanks!
Yes, you'll need some kind of internet connectivity. Some apps like Cerberus allow you to send text commands like "Cerberus enable mobile data" or something like that. You should definitely take a look at Cerberus, it has so many features.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
I second the suggestion of cerberus, you can send text commands and turn things on from the web interface, as well as being able to hide it from the app drawer.
Also if you are rooted, you can make it a system app, which means even if a thief factory resets your phone, cerberus will still be there.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
thanks guys, will look into cerberus with more detail. glad to hear it has an option to activate it on the go.
just saw there's an app called Android Lost that has pretty much the same features as Cerberus( saw that avast/lookout have an antivirus too which I just don't need). My question is, can AL be installed as a system app, so it still works even if the phone is reset? thanks!
My sister passed away awhile ago. We have been slowly going through her stuff and found her old MyTouch 4G she had.
We can't get past the slide pattern, don't know what Gmail account she signed up with (or it's password), but don't want to factory restore/hard restart it. We want to access it and try to get the pictures.
Is this possible at all? Can we do it.
Let me know. It would be a great help. We hope to back-up all her data to remember her by. Let me know. Thanks.
Hello. I'm sorry for your loss. I do not have a workaround for you, but it might be useful to know that the mt4g does not have internal storage, so there wouldn't be any pictures stored on it. All storage was with an external sd card.

Can anyone suggest an app that will allow me to copy my SD data from my old phone onto the Essential over the air? I thought Google's File Go would work, but it seems to restrict which files I can transfer directly, phone to phone. i need access to files beyond the 6 categories File Go offers. I'd like to stay away from any kind of wiring or PC use. Thanks.
Dropbox seems to be a solution. I still would appreciate additional input. Thanks.

You can take an ADB backup... Which should copy everything on device to computer...
If you are rooted... You can do it via wireless ADB

I'm using an app called HandShaker...work fine for me...
X-plore file explorer will transfer over wifi sharing.
You might want to check into an app called superbeam. It uses wifi to transfer as well and you can use it afterward to transfer files from your PC to your phone and from your phone to PC.
