This is probably a dumb question, but I have a computer that runs Windows Vista with like the worst specs, and I need that for fastboot and adb (install TWRP and superuser) so would Windows xp work? It should right? See Windows XP would go perfectly with the specs on my Vista machine, thanks ☺

Hi i have problem with synchronization on xp 64-bit sp2. I instaled framework 3.0 a try update window. Activesync find athena normaly, but when i put thena to bootloader mode a connect it shows some usb device, but no driver. cant unlock my device, cant flash. please help. Work someone on xp 64-bit with athena?
XP64
Hiya,
I used to have xp64 and my device would connect fine. However the initial unlock I did from a standard xp machine. I am now on Vista 32 and must say that xpx64 is no where near as stable and forgiving as Vista 32 is with the Athena. My advice is to get off XPx64. I run a music studio and swore by XPx64 until one day I thought "oh sod it!". I'll never go back.
Vista SP1 is fantastic.
and vista 64?
And you tried vista 64? It is better? Can unlock athena on it. Xp 64-bit hahe pure driver and i think that it will not bettet in future. But vista 64 is more popular and it can be better. But I dont know any idea about working vista 64 and athena. Any happy users on vista 64 system?
and vista 64?
How It is under this system?
Vista64 WMDC Doesn't work for me
While my X7500 will connect with my WMDC on Vista64 Utlimate, and I can transfer files between the two machines, it will not sync anything.
I am thinking about installing Windows 8 developer preview alongside Windows XP whether this will cause any problems?
Whether I should format Windows XP and then install Windows 8?

Before you blab,...
Dualbooting with Windows XP is special. Windows XP is so deprecated that the Win8 bootloader does not show it.
It is possible, as my computer's primary OS is WinXP; Win8 is my secondary and Ubuntu 11.04 is my tertiary OS. Only Win8 shows up in the Win8 bootloader; I had to EasyBCD and write the Win7 bootloader to my MBR and add the other two manually.
Yes, I dual-booted WinXP with Win 8... But how to dual boot Win 8 with ubuntu ?

Same way as usual. Do a straight partition and install from LiveCD/USB.
If you want to triple boot, I don't think you'll have much success with a Wubi-based install because it would only write to the bootloader of the Windows install that it was installed to AFAIK. I transitioned my Wubi install to a full partition once I installed Win8. It didn't stop it from not appearing on the Win8 bootloader.
I have Windows 8 and Ubuntu 11.10 in separated partitions. I had Win 8 installed first, then I installed ubuntu, but GRUB doesn't add Win to boot menu, when I run "sudo update-grub" it doesn't detect Windows 8
as the title says i can't find and install a fastboot driver for my htc magic in windows 8. I tried a several but without sucess. I hope that someone can help me with this because i want to install a recovery and without fastboot i can't do it :/

I have win 7 x64. htc sync + official android sdk for win x64 made it right for me.
It is possible that my system downloaded drivers from the Internet also.
Did you try that (htc sync + official android sdk for win x64) ? You can do a online search for drivers (from the device manager).

the problem was that i was using USB 3.0 port lol
I have a desktop computer about 4 year old, running Windows XP. It has hardware robust enough to run Windows 8. So, I created a bootable usb drive using Windows 7 usb tool in my laptop running Windows 7 HP x64. The usb drive works fine on my laptop, both while booting from it as well as using it while already booted on Win 7 to install Windows 8. But when I insert it to my desktop, and run setup.exe, it shows that setup.exe is not a valid win32 application. And if I boot from it, just shows the Windows 8 logo and does nothing, even if I leave it for a couple of hours, I have purchased Windows 8 for both my pcs but I am not able to install it on my desktop. Help.

Windows XP 32-bit will likely be unable to start the 64-bit setup.exe file, you'll have to boot the installer from the USB stick or from a DVD.
or use a 32-bit ISO and install a 32-bit version of Windows 8.
As nbates said you can't run apps with different architecture. Make sure you have the right settings set in the BIOS (make the USB device bootable) and install again. I think that there was an app called Wintousb or something like that. That's the best app for making a bootable usb.
EDIT:
WinToFlash, that's how the app is called

Since Windows XP both a 32Bit and a 64Bit version exist. OP therefore should clearly specify which machine have what OS version running...
EDIT:
Another worthwile freeware tool is WiNToBootic - the ultimate Windows Boot Disk Maker

yeah since XP 64-bit was mostly unpopular i'm assuming they're using 32-bit XP.

[GUIDE][*] Windows 10 1709&1803 : adb and fastboot. Very little diff from Win7. Easy.
This should work on any phone.
For things like flashing recovery, ROMs, etc etc.
Very little difference from Win7.
I just started running Win10 Pro (version 1709) - this time dual boot with Win7 Pro. By now, Win10 is much more like Win7 and I ignore all the MS apps so I am finding it pretty easy - I use Chrome and TBird, 7zip - everything exactly as I did on Win7.
I did not install any Moto drivers and when I plugged MZP in to Win10 and slid the MZP screen down and selected transfer files, Win10 recognized it immediately. So file xfer is easy. Same as Win7.
For adb and fastboot modules: grab this zip:
https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip
Unzip and put in or near phone stuff.
In Win 10 1709:
In File explorer, open that folder:
then tap Altkey, F(no need for caps!), S, A, cmd(return), adb devices(return) - and it will display your serial number. Voila.
Okay, so much for getting a command window where you want. And that should take care of about any use of adb and fastboot for things like recovery, etc.
EDIT: the same is true for Win10 recognizing MZP when in TWRP. Easy!
I will add more here as needed.
1803 - no difference from win7 - RSDlite and separate adb and fastboot work great - no dualbooting back to win7 to do phone stuffs!
