So my gf's Nexus 4 is having some issues with the phone - on idle it drains in 8 hours, and it seems to charge very very slowly.
I tried connecting to the computer to copy off settings and photos but Windows is telling me in device manager, "Device Descriptor Request Failed". It's actually draining faster than it's charging when on USB (but is fine on AC, still very slow though).
Was using ART.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Already done all that - underclocked and undervolt, still no improvement. BBS installed as system app with root, showing no wakelocks (highest one is 8 minutes).
1. drain: can be a kernel related or os problem, so flash a new kernel, or reflash your current one, or flash another customer rom or stock
2. slow charging: you should try another USB cable, on my old HTC cable my phone is charging about 33% slower!
.. or it is charging slow because of the drain.. hmm, think last one
3. what do your battery stats tell you?
keep calm and push the thanks button!
I restored my phone back to factory Kitkat last night, and overnight there was 3h of constant battery drain under Google Play services.
Might downgrade to 4.3 and see if it's still there.
Might be the battery is having some problem. Contact google if you still have warranty then ask for replacement.

It was bought on launch day - out of warranty now
I don't think it's a physical thing though.
Check system internal battery status, to see who uses battery. And also check if wifi, gps, etc are always on.
If RF, Android OS, etc uses most, and battery drain fast, try another ROM and Kernel also baseband firmware. If app uses a lot, uninstall it and have a try. Disable wifi, gps, etc.
If you can, try charge your phone from shutdown, where no app runs. It should be fast, otherwise, some hardware should be replaced.
Did a factory restore from the Nexus image, just left it idle with Wifi on and no other apps other than the default Google ones, and it still drained itself after 8 hours.
Hello everybody
I have problem with battery drain when my WiFi is on. During night my battery drain 1-2% which is great and WiFi is off, but when I turn my WiFi on and just read news with some app it goes down 5-10% in like 10-15 min. I'm not rooted because he is still in warranty and I don't wanna lose it just yet.
I've searched the forum and I have just found that people have problem when WiFi is off and battery drain like is on but that's not problem here.
Any suggestion?
Thanks.

To diagnose this you would need an app that monitors what it is that is draining the battery.
Try installing "Better Battery Stats," open the app once then close it. For a few hours, use your phone like normal or in a situation you want to diagnose. Then go into Better Battery Stats and post a screenshot of "Kernel Wakelocks," "Partial Wakelocks," and "Other" here so we can take a look.
Better Battery Stats: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2411941&d=1385305325
Other apps which are good to see what is draining the battery are GSam Battery Monitor and Wakelock Detector.
GSam Battery Monitor: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm
Wakelock Detector: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector
Do the same with these apps as I said with Better Battery Stats and post screenshots from them.
Good luck!
Thanks for quick replay. I'm using GSam Battery Monitor for 2 weeks now and here are the images I think it could helps.
If you need something more just ask.

Those pictures look pretty alright. I'd say you aren't suffering from the Android OS bug a lot of other people are suffering from. What is your screen on time? 32% battery left after 6½ hours is quite a lot of drain, it seems as though you must have had the screen on almost the entire time. Looks as though Facebook and Google Services are the ones draining your battery. You could uninstall or deactivate sync for Facebook for a while and see. Google Play Services issued an update some day ago which is rolling out which should fix battery drain as well. You'll have to keep a lookout for that one.
Hi All,
For the last month I have major problem with battery life.
While the phone is NOT in use (like over night) it drains almost 10% per hour.
I didn't install any new APP. The ROM version is Samsung stock 4.3
I installed 2 Apps GSam Batter Monitor and Wakelock detector.
As you can see in the screen shots the Kernel is the major consumer (about 90%).
I will appreciate your help.
Antivirus, task killer/clenat etc?

Thats realy bad... Disable all GAPS (except Gmail and Play Store), any unnecessary apps (Task killers, AV etc). Let the battery go down to 5%, turn off the phone and fully charge it. Try WakeLock detector if no improvement.

Back up your stuff and reflash the FW. I would suggest using KIES 3 and in Tools option Emergency Recovery. It will completely wipe your phone and flash latest FW. When finished, boot up phone but don't set up. Do hard reset (either via Menu or use the 3 key combo) and you should be ok...

Delete it. Its a bad app. Do only battery draining. No more Because android its not the same like windows
Or battery is old.
Either your battery is so old that it's just had it, or you have a serious issue somewhere.
Why has no one suggested the app 'Better Battery Stats'? Install that, charge the phone to full and when it's at 5% screenshot the stats and/or save them and come back and post them here.

i'm also have problem with battery drain issue and after checked with wakelock detector app here Wakelock detector
it was wechat app that have wakelock several time say 2000 times a day.
then i used xposed name per app hacking to prevent app wakelock and it solved my problem..
Hi,
I already installed wakelock app.
Here is screen shots.
Please advice.
Thank you
Your wakelock is kernel related. It could be GPS, bluetooth, using the wrong governor...there are so many things that it could be that it's impossible to guess.
Use Better Battery Stats as has been suggested. It gives a much more in depth report of battery use.
Yeah,it's hard to guess when related to kernel...mine is related on app itself

Hello Experts,
My Battery is draining like crazy. I tried almost everything to figure out what is the issue but could not figure out. Below are the details I gathered from the things I tried.
My battery started draining almost 30 % overnight. Initially I thought it was due to the Unofficial Marshmallow Rom, I could see Wi-Fi to be cause of this drain. Hence I tried different Roms (Cyanogen Mod, PA, DarkObas, Sultan ROM, and stock Cyanogen OS ( Past 3 versions, including latest one). but the battery drain didn't stop.
So I decided to flash PA rom again, installed OpenGapps PICO (Only Google play service nothing else). I installed CPU spy and left it over night in Airplane mode. When I checked in the morning (after 7 hours) battery drain was of 25 %. This was surprising as nothing was running on my phone and only the minimum apps were installed. At this time, CPU spy showed no abnormal wake locks and was in Deep Sleep for almost 93% of the total time. The stock battery usage showed only Mobile Stand by and usage of 50 mAh.
Can you please help me figure out what is causing the battery drain.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes I already tried that. The strange thing is Battery drain is observed in Airplane mode also, while minimum apps installed(Stock apps with PA rom and Opengapps Pico package). Do you have any other suggestions.
It's really hard to judge what could be your issue, you can try different methods to find out who is the actual culprit.May be an app eating your battery or device might have nasty wakelocks, alarms etc or the battery itself would be damaged etc.
Anyways,Turn off ambient display, install BetterBatteryStats then run a full cycle and analyze entire stats of your battery, you'll get know the issue or at least a clue. If you couldn't find out the issue after BetterBatteryStats test then clean flash the a ROM(Recommends CandySix or Darkobas ) w/o GApp and give it a try
Firmware
Try a different firmware version. Here's a link :

Sounds like your battery cannot hold its charge anymore.
How old is your OPO? May be your battery life is about to over.
And this battery drain suddenly started or gradually increased?
Try diagnosing by changing the Location settings to device only. It's some weird bug with COS and CM that's making it to the latest builds of 6.0.1 . I saw that older builds in May don't have this problem.

Unfortunately, Problem still exists even with the Brand New battery. Can any hardware issue cause this issue? It's certainly not Battery problem and not software problem as well.

You really should have taken my advice earlier and diagnose before making any decisions. If your battery truly was dying, then apps like 3C and Geekbench's battery test would've picked this up as they've linear-regression curve data from aggregate sources that you could've compared to. In your OP, you stated that you saw WiFi as a culprit, but did you also know that Google Play Services (depending on version) can do location requests up to 78 times within the hour on stock apps alone? I used to have this similar battery issue, but that was related to location-requests from Google Play Services that somehow propagated to other sources based on CM13's July commit, meaning that kernels also based on this could've been affected as well. What I eventually settled for, in the meantime, is using SultanXDA's 08082016 build and so far everything looks good on Wifi regarding what I expect for typical battery performance. If I learn something, I'll come back to report on it.

You might wanna try that. Possibly MM eating through. I still use Lollipop too. I find no need for MM yet. Also MM feels anti-dev to me for some reason :/ Needs all workarounds for things that were previously much easy to do. Oh well. Try Lollipop and see if it helps? It'd have been my first step for troubleshooting before buying a new battery

Yesterday, I left my phone in Recovery mode (TWRP 3.0.2.0). In less then 5 hours, I observed battery drain of 20%. Same amount of drain is observed when running MM rom. I don't think changing to Lollipop will help. To me it looks like some hardware issue, can any hardware beside battery cause such issue?
