When attempting to set up a static IP, via a cable connection, even after the fields are filled out, the option to save is greyed out. The fields are slightly different from the wifi static IP options. The connection is working with DHCP. The options are:
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.166
NETMASK: 24
DNS: 208.67.222.222
DEFAULT ROUTER: 192.168.0.1
So already you can see its odd compared to the more standard wifi options -only 1 nameserver can be used? These settings work no problems for wifi - but wifi settings also have the subnet mask and two nameservers.
Is it something I'm doing wrong? I've not used ethernet on a phone before. Otherwise, I'll report it to Samsung.

So I never had an issue connecting using DHCP. Then I changed my network so everything has a static IP address. I assigned an IP address on my T-Mobile MDA and now it will not connect to the internet. It does however seem to be connected to the wireless router.
When I use IE or Opera it looks for the host then a get an error message. Occasionally it will look up the site and downlaod the webpage but this takes a very long time. Even when I try to connect to my router using the IP address, it does not work therefore its not the DNS entries.
I changed the SDIO adaptor to use a static IP. Should I change one of the other adaptors too?
I have the wireless G hack enabled but even tried with just wireless B.
have u checked and made sure that u have the gateway address inplace? in the connections page check if your proxy server is set up correctly. also make sure ip is within range for the router to use. hope that helps.
I connect to a WiFi network where each component has a static IP, the problem being that my Hermes will take the earliest free IP address that it can find causing the PC which has that IP address to start spouting errors?
How can I remedy this?
If you have access to the router or buzz the (lousy ) administrator, configure the DHCP to a range that noone has a static IP in (for example x.x.x.250 and up)
After playing around with the router I think that I might have struck gold. Thanks for the speedy reply. I'll post an update in a day or two.
You can set fixed IP addresses on the device as follows:
Start>Settings>connections>Network cards>network adapters (tab)
Here you can then tap each type of connection on the list and choose either server assigned address or enter a specific address.

My configuration is two routers, one as the gateway, and another as a client bridge (bridged wireless-ly - obviously). I have 1 computer after the bridge with IP 192.168.1.8 (static). When my MDA is on, it grabs that same IP address as the other computer. I can surf the outside world, but when I try to access my other computer, it's hosed.
any ideas?
Not sure if this matters, but I've got DD-WRT (linux) on both routers.
Other laptops used connect fine and are assigned they're own IP.

Set the IP to either outside the dynamic IP pool range or give another static IP.
Yeah, what subzero5 said. Either change the static IP to one out side of your DHCP range or if your DHCP is set for the full subnet then change your dhcp range to a smaller one. Say 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150. In most cases you don't need your DHCP so large. Some routers are defaulted to use the entire subnet which is 255 host addresses. Also make sure that dhcp isn't enabled on both routers.
Hi.
I've just bought a HTC Touch, and Im trying to setup a WiFi spot with my WiFi dongle from my PSP. It's a 802.11g USB adapter. I've tryed numorus combinations, but my smartphone cant connect to the access point.
My network:
[internet (one IP)] -> Router (IP:192.168.2.1):
Rounter connection #1: My PS3 (IP:192.168.2.200)
Rounter connection #2: PC (IP:192.168.2.100):
- WiFi dongle connected to PC (IP: 192.168.2.150)
When I leave the IP settings to dynamic I get a network error, so I try to define IPs in the TCP/IP Protocol of the WiFi dongle:
IP address: 192.168.2.150
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.2.1
Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.2.1
Alternate DNS server: blank
I've also tryed the DNS and Default gateway to my PC (192.167.2.100), but my Touch couldn't connect to the spot, although my PC recognizes my phone MAC address. I don't have any firewalls, antiviruses etc.
Any ideas?
Hi everyone,
At my parents' place, there is a wifi extender in my room.
Every possible electronic I have is able to connect to it, except my s10+ for some reason.
My uncle has the same phone and for him, it works fine.
Everywhere else where I connect to wifi it works, its just this specific router.
I get an error message saying "Couldn't get IP address
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and how I can fix this?
Maybe they have static IP only enabled on their WiFi. Mine requires me to program one in (within range of addresses) or you have static enabled and one of their devices is using that IP.
Use his device to see the config (settings>wifi>tap hold on connection to wifi name>modify or view if available. Type the same into yours but change the last part of the IP (ie. 192.168.6.88 change the 88 to 193. Any number under 254 higher the better chance of it being free. Use the same info as theirs. )
IE
IP 192.168.6.193
Gateway 192.168.6.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 (whatever theirs is)
DNS 1 is 75.75.75.75 or whatever theirs is
DNS 2 is. 75.75.76.76 or whatever theirs is
If that fails then reboot their router and use WPS (Google it got your phone model. Should be settings>wifi> 3 for menu top right somewhere in there as WPS Setup)
