Questions on using Samsung unlocked S8 on Verizon - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have read a bunch of threads all over and done some searches but cannot seem to find any clear definitive answers on a few things. I am looking at grabbing the Samsung unlocked S8 and want to know for sure if anyone can confirm what does and does not work on VZ with that model? I am pretty sure of the following, but anyone who has one on VZ and can help me out would be greatly appreciated.
- WiFi Calling does NOT work on VZ with the unlocked version. I am pretty sure based on what I read on this.
- VoLTE and HD calling DO work on VZ. Again, pretty sure from what I read but it is hard to find definitive answers anywhere.
- Any app based WiFi calling would still work (so using stuff like Signal or any app that uses data to make calls could make WiFi calls even if the VZ network WiFi calling does not work?)
- Video calling DOES/DOES not work? Cannot find any answer to this.
- Voicemail still gives you notifications/works like normal? I think I read someone say that Visual Voicemail does not work, so the app that lets you just tap and see and instantly listen to VM would not work and you would have to dial *86? Not sure here and clarification is appreciated.
- Any other significant issues or things that don't work or are affected that I have missed?
I think it is pretty bad that phones can evolve with tech and you can get a phone several years and models newer than an older phone, but because one is carrier locked version, it has a ton of features that the newer phone can do, but won't because of carrier BS. Again, all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Visual voicemail does not work. HD calling works. I dont do wifi calling. I dont do video calling. I have unlimited data and mobile hotspot works flawless.

Did you decide to purchase the unlocked S8 for use on Verizon? Has it been a good experience? I'm thinking of buying one since I have the grandfathered unlimited data plan and I'd like to be able to use the mobile hotspot without having to root. Although I don't travel too much, having the option to use my phone in another country by popping in a local SIM is definitely an attractive feature. Thanks in advance!

[Q] Free cell service?

Okay this is my first post and, I'm pretty sure I'm posting in the right spot if not I'm very sorry with that said.
I have been reading articles that say you can get free gprs internet by using web proxy setting if this in fact possible then couldn't you just use fringe and AIM to send sms messages and some sort of viop service to make calls? I have done some research into the subject and it looks like in theory this should be possible, I just can't seem to get it all figured out hoping that others can help make this idea a reality. Also I don't know about the rest of the world but here in the U.S at least you can still make calls to 911 even with no service enabled.

In the UK our emergency number is 999 and it doesn't cost.
Wouldn't they detect that your using their internet for free?
yes
of course... i used bittorrent to get skype for my diamond... i connect to wireless through wifi. and my phone is unlocked among other hacks. they can't legally stop you also if you have the linux hack search for a voip program calld akiga which is free
i pay for skype but hell i don't pay for service on my htc

That was a very old way to get GPRS, and I believe it was only on one or two carriers, who I am sure have closed off the loophole.
IIRC it was also only for a couple of LG handsets.
But what you would be doing was/is illegal, and you would likely get caught if you tried to use VOIP over it.
At which point, you will have trouble finding anyone who will back you, as the rest of us pay our monthly bill and just accept it. I got my contract at 50% discount by asking for the right things and researching when was best to buy etc...
I don't recommend it, and you will get caught if you try anything like this... The networks monitor for strange usage such as data on a SIM with no data package etc.
I didn't think this was illegal since i wanted to connect gprs threw a proxy server so ur tunneling around there service. But even with no sim card a phone can still call emergency so if you did all this with no sim card would it still be consider stealing?

Verizons tab

Can the verizon version of this device also send texts? Does this mean there is hope for phone functionality for it as well?

There are MANY posts about call functionality for ALL versions of the tab regardless of the carrier for the USA version. Currently people are working on the solution as most give thumbs up for voice (with right plan of course) capabilities but only on edge speeds. I've been reading that some are "supposedly" getting 3g from their carriers but that still remains to be confirmed by many people on the same carrier.
Shadow other threads...as my humble feeling is there is already a massive flood of "will my tab make voice calls".
I have been, and in fact others have asked the same question... only to be steamrolled by the shear volume of posts regarding the T mobile version.
The focus right now is on the T-Mobile version as it is similar to the already phone capable international GSM version of the Galaxy Tab.
It will take a lot more effort and time to figure out the Verizon and Sprint (both CDMA) versions.
Yeah I completely understand that. But is the hardware even there to do it? This is why I lead the question with one about texting, as I would think if the device can text (not emulate texting via internet, aka google voice), then voice would be possible.
You can indeed send messages with the Verizon tab, and I believe phone calling is possible with some mods, as part of the activation is an automated dialin to verizon. Unfortunately, Verizon charges on a per text msg basis ONLY for the tab. There is, currently, no unlimited text option.

Couple issues after flashing at&T TAB

First of all, a big thanks to all of you that put so much effort into this. Great job.
I have a few questions and some are trivial.
The tab works as a phone with my AT&T sim in it. Thats great. However, when I take the sim out and replace it with the original sim that has no service on it, I cannot make a call with google voice. It initiates than ends. I thought that GV used the wifi connection to make calls over the net and not rely on the sim.
This question is meaningless but I thought I would ask. I noticed that the graphics on the European firmware look really dated compared to those on the build before flashing it. Or am I imagining this?

Verizon WiFi Calling inside Advanced Calling 2.0&/or T-mobile Volte work w/ Nexus 6

Verizon WiFi Calling inside Advanced Calling 2.0&/or T-mobile Volte work w/ Nexus 6
inquiring minds want to know.......................................
My understanding is the the only way Wifi calling works on Verizon is to download and use the Verizon Messages+ app. Pretty lame but I think that is the current state of things. I would love to be wrong on this.
Some links that talk about it:
http://www.zdnet.com/article/lagging-its-peers-verizon-adds-wi-fi-calling-but-theres-a-catch/
http://www.spotonnetworks.com/verizon-enables-wifi-calling-with-a-few-caveats/
http://www.inquisitr.com/2577556/verizon-wireless-finally-offers-wi-fi-calling/
I find a lot of reports that folks are using Verizon Messages for wi-fi calls on the N6P. That's actually not that bad of a concept.
I'll have to try it when I get some time. I can't find any kind of definitive guide to making it work, but it seems possible, at least for MAKING calls. Unless I'm misreading all of this stuff.
You additionally have to go online and enable Advanced Calling 1.0 on your account (the same Advanced Calling that lets you do voice and data at the same time) -- I think that without this turned on, you can't do Wi-Fi calling at all either.

SM-G955FD on Verizon (I don't care about CDMA)

I'm making a broad post as a last resort on this, the only two thread on it I found were dead ends.
I've exhaustively searched and trialed different roms/firmware/CSC to get my already activated verizon sim working on my SM-G955FD.
I already know Exynos has no CDMA, neither did the HTC U11 that I had for a short while, and that didn't cause me any issues with outgoing calls. the VOLTE seems to be doing a fine job.
I PM'd two people on xda who said they were using it stock with no problem, but haven't gotten any replies on what steps they took. I can't even get data working regardless of APN or CSC. It simply refuses to connect to the network. I also hate what verizon did to the settings menu on this phone. If I didn't have the GFUDP, I would have moved on a while ago, but I use too much data.
Of course I know I can get the verizon snapdragon model, but I need root. I simply cannot function without titanium and the fact that android, to this day, has no official perfect backup really grinds my gears.
If anyone else has had success with this, please point me in the right direction. tia
