I will be traveling to the US in about a week, I want to buy a Focus and was wondering if I will be able to do it without having a contract with At&t..
I'm willing to pay the "No Commitment Pricing" of $500+taxes but I don't know what kind of requirements they impose to the actual purchase of a device in the store.
Anybody has info on this?

Your best bet is Best Buy if/when they get the phone, I think.
When I bought my Focus today in an official AT&T store, they mentioned I would have to purchase some sort of contract to "get the phone today". I didn't mind since I was planning to, but it felt to me like it was a necessity...
Anyone else have problems buying off contract? I used my upgrade on an iPhone 4 and wanted to buy this for the full retail price today.... Hopefully I don't run into any problems =/
I bought mine no contract with no hassle. I'm already an ATT customer and just asked to buy the phone without a contract.

phew... load off my mind. now i can sell off my samsung captivate without worrying the whole day if i did it for nothing. THANKS
I got the phone when the stores open in Columbus, OH on the 8th. There were 4 of us in line there. The other 3 were Microsoft employees. Two bought the focus, one the HTC. All bought them with NO contract. Infact I think one guy paid for all three of them lol. I'm pretty sure since you can order them online with no contract for $499.99 at ATT.com that a contract is not needed.
I walked in and out of a official att store with a focus.
Buy it @ at&t stores should be no problem at all. The biggest problem is to get it unlocked.

You can't buy the Samsung Focus off contract currently. AT&T will sell it outright ($499 + tax), but they will only sell it to you if your an existing on-contract customer or you sign up (with a minimum term). I've already been to AT&T and tried, apparantly my money is not good enough there. I'm not sure how people in the US put up with this rubbish. Either way, the only way to get a Samsung Focus in the US at the moment is to sign up at AT&T.
I've also been to Best Buy, but they only stock the HTC Surround, which I won't buy due to it not having a microSD slot.
I'm currently an AT&T customer who just renewed my contract for another 2 years for the iphone 4. So they'll be able to sell me one full retail price, right?

What about Amazon Wireless, I think you can buy there without a plan...
EDIT: I just confirm this, you can buy without a plan!
Most online site still need to verify your status with AT&T (at least that's the policy with Letstalk.com). Stores don't like to sell phones without contract because there is no money to be made (monthly service charges).

You can go elsewhere on the net as well. The problem is AT&T has the best price right now. Everyone else is a good 50-80 more expensive. I'd rather save the extra cash and grab a branded one...

Dude I meant the branded ones (AT&T), for example the HTC SURROUND AT&T BRANDED price is $460 or something like that. And I was able to go through all the checkout process, just that I didn't want to pay, hehehe
OK cool.. I hope there are Focus left when I´m there!
Amazon.com doesn't have Focus in stock. In fact, it only briefly showed up in like 10 seconds before it was sold out @ 11/8.
You go to Dell online and buy any phone on any carrier in the US and some unlocked Nokia's without a contract and in some cases the prices are pretty good...I have a Streak AND a Nokia N8 on the way lol. The Nokia (ugly pea green one) was actually only $450 compared to $550 most other places. If I don't like either one I may be joining the Focus owners club in a few weeks.
craiglist.. thats how i got mine// 400 bucks.. a week old
Can you settle an arguement for me? What did you guys in the US pay when the a500 was first released? I think it was about 400usd + considerably less than here. Can anyone confirm this?

IIRC it was $449.99
I paid $300 for a 16GB, but that was with the Staples $100 off coupon. So at the time it was, obviously, $400. I wasn't exactly an early adopter so it may have been higher than that at release.
Thanks lads that settles it for me. A friend here is adamant that acer would never charge less for a tab in the states than here in their homeland, so I put him straight. It was 625 US here when first released.
It Released for sale ONLY AT BEST BUY .. THE Price was as said above 449.00 ..
everyone that bought it within 3 months or so of this date paid that price.. after that i think they started offering a 100 off special at some retailers... the 501 was not for sale here. i dont think ever until carriers like at&t started selling it...
Thought as much erica, he's convinced that the price in US and Taiwan was always on a par. I remember reading what you guys had paid for yours in various posts but thanks for confirming it.
Pay the Lady
yes i ordered mine first of april.. got it like 24th if im not mistaken.. anyone in us who claims to have paid less.. had a discount like worked for best buy or used gift card of some type...
But now im only replying to this post because im curious . WHY THIS MATTERS.. IF you win money in a wager or bet PAY UP... GIGGLES.

Paid 389.00 for the a500 16b when they first came out.
The reason it matters is because this guy is really sure of himself and claims it's his business to know this kind of stuff and I couldn't possible be right. So just to please myself is all it's worth
LOL
I understand... We have lots like that on this forum...Those that know everything.I know to get a discount on Brand new Hot selling hardware. From a retailer like best buy. Will be a very Tiny discount. maybe 8 to 10 percent.. There Employee discounts.. I dont think go in effect on these types of items until after a few weeks or a month.. But i can be wrong.. Thou i do know the discounts are very slim.
Why would someone discount a device. that is selling off the shelf at full price.. NOT Happening.. its just not logical.
Long time lurker, first time poster...
I just got the AT&T GSIII.
I've determined I'd be much happier with the international version.
My question is, can I turn around and sell the GSIII I just bought in store(AT&T branded) on eBay, and use the cash to buy the international version, without any trouble from AT&T? I imagine it will almost cover the cost of the unlocked quad-core GSIII and I'll be a happier fellow.
Thanks

You absolutely can. AT&T couldn't care less what you do with it. They make the real money off of contracts, and since you (presumably) signed a 2 year contract with them, they're happy either way. Go ahead, sell it.

Cool, thanks much.
I bought my Note pro 12.2 five months ago on the DPP and i hardly ever use it, so i think i will be selling it for the pay off amount plus shipping which will be around $525 total what do you think is the best way to sell it.
I am going to pay it off with the sale money and get it off my account.
This is a Verizon LTE device

Swappa.com I have sold 3 devices and bought 1. Pretty slick site, and xda approved!
Swappa will require the device to be paid off and ready for activation (i.e. clean ESN) before listing. Which you really should do before selling it anywhere. Or at the very least, make sure you note what your plan is, as the buyer won't be able to activate the tablet until you pay it off and remove it from your account. Verizon is rather particular about that.
If that's the case, you may want to coordinate something locally through Craiglist and meet a Verizon store, maybe?
Assuming you can't pay it off first...
Either way, good luck.
Thanks i was thinking local also.
As far as I can tell, there's no way to take advantage of BestBuy's $100 pre-order discount if you're doing a Next trade-in of your S7 Edge, unless you're willing to hand over your old phone at the time of the pre-order, and then be phoneless until the S8+ is available. Is that correct?
UPDATE: Turns out I was misinformed by the Best Buy online chat rep. You can pre-order in-store for a Next trade-in and keep your old phone until after you receive the new one.
Im kinda confused and unaware of this deal. What does the upgrade deal consist of? I might be interested.

Just google "AT&T Next".
Anyone had any luck trading in phone on Next with a cracked screen?

Get it fixed then trade it in, or ... You can do their trade in program. They will give you what they deem the value of your phone in a credit. You can then apply that credit to what you own on the device still, pay off the rest, and then upgrade. Either way, you will spend $$ to do it since you broke it.
So you only get $100 for your s7 edge towards an S8?
That's it? I was gonna see if I could trade my s7 edge in too.
You could sell it on swappa for like $350
Did anyone know that the S 8 + from att is the G935U with 7.0
The U as not tied to a carrier
But don't think att is that nice probably still Locked on carrier remember the U was for the unlocked phones (carrier wise)
