Howto disable cellular radio while using wifi sharing? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Wondering if there is a way to disable cellular radio on the s7e, without using airplane mode? I'm going on a cruise tomorrow, and would like to use wifi sharing on my phone. If I enable airplane mode I cannot enable wifi sharing which is basiclly mobile hotspot but for wifi. I don't want my phone roaming, and receiving texts, or calls if my phone gets disconnected from wifi without me knowing. I know I can disconnect mobile data, but would like to just disable the cellular radio without root.
With all the drinking that will be going on I just don't want a surprise bill next month.

Go into connections, under data, disable cellular data.
I disable it when I don't use it a lot so i get the $10 monthly credit for using less than 2Gb on my unlimited plan since I use mostly wifi

I know about data, issue is that Cruise ships charge you a high amount for receiving text messages, or callls. So with data disabled you sit can get charged for texts, or phone calls that goto voicemail.
Anyways I figured it out, just put your phone into airplane mode, and use a app called Pdanet, and enable hotspot within the app.

Can you run Wifi and 3G/HSDPA connections simultaneously?

So the if the phone connects over wifi it drops the data connection that might've been present on your phone network connection. Is it possible to configure your phone to maintain both wifi and 3G/HSDPA connections at the same time?
I require this because my operator provided (H3G UK network) Skype application only runs on 3G and I have to keep turning off wifi for it to work.
Funny, I find this feature great!! With my WM phones I never knew if it was using wifi or my data connection....even if you can do this how do you make one app use one connection over the other?

Good q, i'd also like to know if it's possible...

You can try droid wall, and configure it to block wifi for skype, it may solve your issue.

Hmm, doesn't sound like that will work, because the phone has already dropped the phone network data connection as soon as I get back home onto my home wifi network (due to prioritisation?) I want the phone to maintain both so I can receive incoming Skype calls at home with fiddling with my phone. I understand why the phone does it and it is sensible for it to do so in most cases, but just not for my usage requirements!
Is it a software/hardware limitation that wifi and phone network data connections can't be open at the same time?
Install Nimbuzz. It supports Skype without that bulls**t restriction. It doesn't support group chats though.

I lose the "H" or "3G" notifier when the phone connects to wifi, that's why it looks like it's purposesly dropping the data connection once it picks up my wifi, I can't see a way to maintain both simultaneously.
I'm using "Skype for 3" provided by my network, it has special integration on the 3 network which allows me unlimited Skype usage (inbound and outbound) without it eating into my data plan. So with this benefit I don't really want to use an alternative app.
I want to keep Skype running all the time so I can receive calls on it, but once I get home, the wifi kills the "H"/"3G" connection, which means my Skype can't receive calls.
the icon isn't there but i think the data (H / 3G) is still running in the background, incase your Wifi fails.
wifi is the... PREFERRED network?
have you tried getting your friend to call you via skype while you're on wifi?

T-Mobile prepaid screen when trying to browse via wifi

We just got a t-mobile no-contract tablet. Randomly while trying to browse via wifi, the t-mobile prepaid screen pops up and we can no longer use the browser.
Anyone else experiencing this and have ideas how to stop it from happening? Is there a way to permanently disable the t-mobile network connection? (we are always connecting via a wifi tether and are not using the tmobile service).
Thanks
Here's a thought...call tmobile...I know what an original idea

Probably a silly question, but when you say "wifi tether" it sounds like you are tethering to another phone, so are you doing this or are you connecting to a "fixed" WiFi access point? (e.g. your home DSL/cable connection).
Regards,
Dave
Either... Sometimes we are tethering to an access point on our phone, other times it is the wifi at the airport.
No we are not in airplane mode.
Hold the power button in for a few seconds, then choose airplane mode. Then in settings, enable wifi.
From the wireless settings you can uncheck packet data.

[Q] Overseas Internet Calling?

Heading to Afghanistan this week. Does anyone know if wi-fi calling works there and will I be charged roaming fees? If connected to wi-fi, will 3rd party messaging apps work? How about skype, tango, qik or gtalk? Any info is appreciated.
The problem with using wifi calling is you can't connect / use when in airplane mode with wifi turned on. You have to have sim card on with wifi, which I was told may or may not incur roaming charges. BUT any call you make with wifi calling on will be like you making a call from the states.
When I went to a foreign country, I use tango, what's app with wifi, and airplane mode. That is completely free.

I was in Europe earlier this year and it worked great for me. I had my T-mo SIM in, mobile network disabled, WiFi calling app set to WiFi calls only and it was working great on all WiFi networks I connected except one - the modems of one of the local DSL ISPs seemed to have ports used by the WiFi calling closed so I was getting connection errors in the WiFi calling app. But this was one single provider and I guess if I'd researched it I could have fixed it in the modem settings.
I don't know anything about the other options.
Skype and Gtalk work fine on WiFi. If your communication can be done at specific hours (which I presume is correct) - Skype and Gtalk are good options, and even video calling on them is good enough and doesn't require much bandwidth usage.

[Q] WTF??? Why won't my mobile data stay off after I F&^$ING turn it off?

I'm at home on wifi and have turned off mobile networks yet the damn H/3G icon stays on next to my wifi icon. I've noticed this before where they are running simultaneously even though mobile networks are turned off but I never worried about it until I switched to a 2 gb data plan. I have been heavy on tethering early on in this months billing cycle so I don't want any extra data used when I can help it. I am sure its not using much data but it pisses me off when **** doesn't work right. Is there a running service that might be turning on my data even though I manually turned it off? If so, why can't running services rely on wifi rather than mobile data? I've done all the normal things such as restarts, etc. yet it keeps happening...Any ideas?
Backup your data using mybackup pro or something and factory reset is all I can think of! I experienced this problem too and I had to reset it to stop. T-Mobile couldn't help me at all.
download juice defender from the market in the settings there's a option to cut off other networks activity when on wifi

Turn off Mobile network without turning off Wifi

Hello everyone, I've tried to find the answer to this from multiple websites and forums but nobody was able to give me an satisfactory answer.
Sometimes I need to turn off my mobile network but want to keep on my WiFi as I'm usually calling people through Skype, whatsapp and Facebook messenger, I've tried Airplane mode but it turns off all the communication devices in the phone i.e wifi, Bluetooth and mobile network. I was wondering is there any way in which I could keep my WiFi connected and disable only my Sim Network as I don't afford to keep on connecting and reconnecting my WiFi again and again by turning on airplane mode.
Any help would be a life saver.
Thank you

Dude I don't think you understood my question here. The problem is i want to shut off my cellular NETWORK (not the cellular data) . When i put my mobile on airplane mode(it turns off my cellular NETWOK, but also turns off my wifi). I am finding a way around if this can be avoided by ONLY turning off the Cellular NETWORK not th WiFi.
Hope that clears my point =)

That's what I told in the post, that i don't want my WiFi to turn off by activating airplane mode, as im usually connected to calls through WiFi, and its really a hassle to call again and again just because of my Cellular network signal.

So leave data on...disable cell network and leave WiFi alone.... how about setting WiFi calling to only use WiFi?
Edit: what model note 4? What I show is for the 910T.

Bro maybe I'm not making myself clear enough here, let me tell you in detail. Look, I don't use my cellular data(by cellular I mean the Sim Network like AT&T, Orange). I use wifi to call, like on Facebook messenger, Skype. The problem that I'm facing is that where I live, sometimes the my Sim Network signals drop, therefore I turn on the airplane mode to completely shut down cellular network so I can deactivate the airplane mode later so I can get my cellular network signals back again. Now in doing this process i.e turning on the airplane mode, the phone turns off my WiFi too. That is very annoying as I'm usually connected to Skype calls through my WiFi. I was looking for a way that if we could JUST TURN OFF CELLULAR NETWORK WITHOUT THE PHONE AUTOMATICALLY TURNING OFF THE WIFI.
I hope now I cleared my point
Thanks for the help =)
My model is Note 4, SM-N910C
Bro, maybe you aren't paying attention. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has the ability to operate purely on WiFi while airplane mode is enabled. So if you turn on airplane mode, initially it will turn off all networks (voice, text, wifi, Bluetooth, etc.). After that, you can manually turn the wifi back on and it will work purely from the wifi network.
Try the Do Not Disturb feature. That may be what you're looking for.
