Turn off Mobile network without turning off Wifi - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I've tried to find the answer to this from multiple websites and forums but nobody was able to give me an satisfactory answer.
Sometimes I need to turn off my mobile network but want to keep on my WiFi as I'm usually calling people through Skype, whatsapp and Facebook messenger, I've tried Airplane mode but it turns off all the communication devices in the phone i.e wifi, Bluetooth and mobile network. I was wondering is there any way in which I could keep my WiFi connected and disable only my Sim Network as I don't afford to keep on connecting and reconnecting my WiFi again and again by turning on airplane mode.
Any help would be a life saver.
Thank you

Turn on airplane mode, then turn on wi-fi.

Dude I don't think you understood my question here. The problem is i want to shut off my cellular NETWORK (not the cellular data) . When i put my mobile on airplane mode(it turns off my cellular NETWOK, but also turns off my wifi). I am finding a way around if this can be avoided by ONLY turning off the Cellular NETWORK not th WiFi.
Hope that clears my point =)

That's what I told in the post, that i don't want my WiFi to turn off by activating airplane mode, as im usually connected to calls through WiFi, and its really a hassle to call again and again just because of my Cellular network signal.

So leave data on...disable cell network and leave WiFi alone.... how about setting WiFi calling to only use WiFi?
Edit: what model note 4? What I show is for the 910T.

Bro maybe I'm not making myself clear enough here, let me tell you in detail. Look, I don't use my cellular data(by cellular I mean the Sim Network like AT&T, Orange). I use wifi to call, like on Facebook messenger, Skype. The problem that I'm facing is that where I live, sometimes the my Sim Network signals drop, therefore I turn on the airplane mode to completely shut down cellular network so I can deactivate the airplane mode later so I can get my cellular network signals back again. Now in doing this process i.e turning on the airplane mode, the phone turns off my WiFi too. That is very annoying as I'm usually connected to Skype calls through my WiFi. I was looking for a way that if we could JUST TURN OFF CELLULAR NETWORK WITHOUT THE PHONE AUTOMATICALLY TURNING OFF THE WIFI.
I hope now I cleared my point
Thanks for the help =)
My model is Note 4, SM-N910C

Bro, maybe you aren't paying attention. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has the ability to operate purely on WiFi while airplane mode is enabled. So if you turn on airplane mode, initially it will turn off all networks (voice, text, wifi, Bluetooth, etc.). After that, you can manually turn the wifi back on and it will work purely from the wifi network.

Try the Do Not Disturb feature. That may be what you're looking for.

[Q] how to make sure that i am on wifi or 3g

Bro and sis, is there a way to make sure whether i am connected via wifi or 3g? Cuz my 3g dataplan is not unlimited.
Thanks.
Hold the power button down until the device option screen pops up, the same screen that turns it off. You'll see a Data network mode. Select that so that it shows Data network mode deactivated. Now 3g is off for sure.

you can also use widget or personally go to setting to turn off 3g
but somehow, every time my wifi is on, 3g is automatically off
u wont see the symbol on notification bar anymore
thanks bros, nice method.
I've had issues with wifi randomly dropping. Some times I wont notice and the 3g handles my traffic even though I don't want it to due to only getting the 1gb plan. With fully deactivating the 3g data I know when I drop my wifi and am ensured that I've turned my tab into a wifi only device.

The tab uses wifi first when available, and puts the cellular modem to sleep.

Wifi Sleep Policy Problems

Has anyone noticed the wifi sleep policy has no effect on the Nexus 4.
I've set mine to keep wifi on during sleep only when plugged in. However wifi remains on all the time. My wife also has a Nexus 4 and exactly the same thing happens. However my Nexus 7 and Galaxy S3 both disable wifi when sleeping.
I've had this problem on lots of different phones,. in the end i used Juice Defender which sorted it out. My Nexus 4 at the moment is behaving itself. On my Motorola Xoom (AOSP) i did a factory reset which fixed it.

I'm pretty sure it worked on the Galaxy Nexus.
Let's put whether its working or not to the side for a bit.
Why would you want to turn off WiFi during sleep in the first place?
I understand why on a WiFi only tablet. Phone, not so much
Only way it works is when you disable the Location settings - all of them + turn off Google Now.
My Nexus consumes too much battery over night with all its WiFi goings on.
WiFi uses less battery then cellular. If you turn off WiFi it it uses the cellular data connection which uses more battery.
If you turn off WiFi and leave your cellular data on it is counter productive to saving battery.

Whenever your device has a wifi connection it uses the cellular connection only for phone calls, nothing else. that's what albundy meant.

You can turn on airplane mode, then turn on wifi. That will disable your ability to make calls over the cell network though (I used to do that when I was at home and use Groove IP). Not sure if that is what you are looking for.

[Q] to anyone with 3g nexus 7

i got my 3g nexus 7 a week ago and its been fantastic. thee is, however, a minor annoyance that im curious if anyone else has experienced
i usually cut the mobile data off when using it on wifi, and ive noticed after long periods of inactivity, the mobile data will turn itself back on.
is this a known issue? im running completely stock at this point.
Just put it on airplane mode than turn on WiFi.... That way you're sure that mobile connectivity is disabled.

I do the same thing. You'll see the WiFi icon and the airplane icon both on the status bar. Without airplane mode, the cellular modem will still be on and connected to the cellular network all the time. If you have WiFi available, you're wasting battery power on the unused cellular connection. Also if the WiFi turns off to conserve power, it may start using the cellular data. That is not good if you have a limited data plan.
I've posted a question before asking if anyone knew how to create a widget to toggle the cellular radio on and off and received no response.
I generally do use airplane mode when on WiFi, but it was one of those little quirks I noticed and was wondering if it was happening to anyone else
As for a toggle widget for the 3g, I use power toggles. It seems to work, but I've wondered I'd that is actually the culprit. I could get rid of it and see, but it's such a minor issue ATM

Auto switch off/on data-3g/wifi

I'm looking for app, which can turn off data, when connection to know wifi spot is made and from the other side, when there is no known wifi spots, turn data /3g back on.
I know, that if both wifi and data is on, phone use wifi, if there is known spot, but don't phisicaly turn off data connection automaticly.
I tried SmartConnectivity, Smart Wifi toggler, but it's not working, as I want.
Try "Tasker"

good app. doesn't use location services but instead remembers cell towers (like y5 which doesnt work anymore with 4.2+) so good on battery.

Qualcomm's battery guru does this there's a learning period but after that it should perform in the manner you're describing

maybe in a few years that app will get somewhere. as it is, google location based wifi switchers aren't a good idea, unless you're using location services 24/7 anyway (latitude, gnow, etc).
I use wi-fi matic + macrodroid. When I come home, wi-fi matic detects the cell tower I'm connected to and switched on wifi. Once connected, macrodroid switches airplane mode on, and sipdroid connects to my sip provider. Once I leave and lose the wifi connection, macrodroid disables airplane mode. Then wi-fi matic sees that I left my area and switches off wifi. Totally automated
agreed... I don't use it myself(I'm a self-switcher) but I did install when it first came out and found it behaves like the op desires

Mobile data is automatically switched off when WiFi is connected.
No need to disable it manually.

That's not true. If U look in Settings-Data usage Mobile data is still ON. Of coures it's not used, because wifi have prioritiy, but data is ON anyway.
For 2 days I was switch off it data/wifi manually and battery life is better.

Okay here is .prf i just created put it in your tasker folder(auto-import).
It works perfect.
Open tasker and import it.
On any WiFi you connect(you can change that by pressing green arrow and add your know WiFis if you would like) it disables Mobile Data(You cant receive MMS if Mobile data is off) on WiFi you connect and when you lose your connection whit WiFi it disables WiFi and kicks in Mobile Data On so you dont need to worry to disable WiFi it does automatically.
ENJOY!
If it works thank me.

Yes, but service is ON, look in Settings-Data Usage: Mobile data=ON And that service is using battery...I'm not the first one, who found that "problem".
But it's not used, that's true.
Anyway, I found a solution with Wi-FI matic and Wifi/3g switch, not it's working like I want.
So thanks for help.

Llama (just search the Play store for it, I can't post the link...) seems to be a good single app location aware solution. The first play store review pretty much says it all "More flexible than Atooma, but not brain-melting like Tasker. Just makes using your phone easier, and more helpful."
I've been struggling with Tasker for several days trying to get it to do the same thing (toggle wifi and mobile data settings automatically based on my location). I had Llama set up and working beautifully in maybe an hour and a half, which included the time to read the devs instructions and FAQ (click "View Developer's Website from the Play store).
It uses cell towers to determine your location, so there is no battery hit, or you can optionally enable wifi polling or GPS for more accurate locating. It can also perform actions based on when your wifi changes state (connects or disconnects) regardless of your location. And since it's "Tasker-like" it can perform a lot more than just handling your data connections: adjust volumes or screen brightness, launch/kill apps, even shut off or reboot the phone (only if rooted). For example, mine is set up to remove my lockscreen password when I am home and re-enable it when I leave the area of my home wifi and it was fast and simple to get configured.

Wow, great!
I'll try and report...
But I think there is one thing missing what Wi-FI matic do. Wi-FI matic activate WIFI based on cell towers.
With this Tasker script you have to turn on WiFi by yourself, is that correct?
Than script turns off data and turn it back ON, when you lose connection. But than again, when wifi is presented, you have to turn it on by yourself...
I think, this script is doing something similar as this app

Howto disable cellular radio while using wifi sharing?

Wondering if there is a way to disable cellular radio on the s7e, without using airplane mode? I'm going on a cruise tomorrow, and would like to use wifi sharing on my phone. If I enable airplane mode I cannot enable wifi sharing which is basiclly mobile hotspot but for wifi. I don't want my phone roaming, and receiving texts, or calls if my phone gets disconnected from wifi without me knowing. I know I can disconnect mobile data, but would like to just disable the cellular radio without root.
With all the drinking that will be going on I just don't want a surprise bill next month.

Go into connections, under data, disable cellular data.
I disable it when I don't use it a lot so i get the $10 monthly credit for using less than 2Gb on my unlimited plan since I use mostly wifi
I know about data, issue is that Cruise ships charge you a high amount for receiving text messages, or callls. So with data disabled you sit can get charged for texts, or phone calls that goto voicemail.
Anyways I figured it out, just put your phone into airplane mode, and use a app called Pdanet, and enable hotspot within the app.
