Hi, for the past few months I haven't been able to download any modules because it would give me a out of space error, evem though I always had it. Today, I tried again and although I was capable of installing some modules, they didn't work. Could anyone help me? I can send my error log too if needed, thank you in advance. P.S. I'm not the best rooter since I've always worked with cydia.

Hi everyone,
I picked up a Droid X a few days ago and I have been looking into modifying it ever since. So far I have successfully Rooted, De-Odex'd, and installed custom themes. Being new to the android platform, it has taken some time to learn and there is still more to know. I have started to piece together a guide and I am looking for some input from the community to correct/add/remove tips/tricks/tools/etc as needed.
Please take the time to review and let me know what you thoughts are. Let me know what you encountered when trying to do a specific task. For us n00b's out there, let me know what you were unsure of and how you resolved the issue. My goal is to make one source for the Droid X that gets rid of most confusion.
Look forward to your input.
Thanks!
Update 10/26/2010: Guide Complete, still open for suggestions, just PM me.
Updated attached guide and also posted to wiki.

Looks like you put a lot of time/effort into this.
How about integrating that info into the wiki?

Nice work! +1 on zaphod's sug. ping me if you need any help!
Will do, I have some more work I'd like to do on it though. Thanks for the tips and support
Dude...seriously...THANK you. Step-by-step directions are great when you only have a vaguely general idea of what you're supposed to be doing (that's what happens when you still haven't tried to learn though, so it's kinda my fault...).
Hey- this is awesome. Keep up the good work. Don't forget- now that we can overclock - those will be useful instructions since they are pretty confusing for noobs right now.
nice work!
Thanks for taking the time to write this up for all of us trying to hack our Droid X's.
nice guide, i didnt realize the recovery mod was so easy until i read this. nice to have a backup now.
Does anyone have anytips on getting this root to work. Ive installed the drivers and followed the instructions on the guide but for some reason when i hit the root button it gets hung up halfway through it. Then it can find my DroidX. help plzz

Guide is a bit out dated. A much easier root method is z4root. apk and support page below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
1. Download .apk, copy to SD card.
2. Enable "Unknown sources" (Settings => Applications => check "Unknown sources"
3. Use file manager to navigate to file on SD card, install. I recommend rebooting before install and again after install, prior to running root command from within z4root. <= may help the process run smoother.
4. Open z4root, tap Permanent Root, let it run, once complete your device should restart and you would then be rooted.
Next step, installing ROM's. Many great ROM's out there, I highly recommend Liberty.
Greets All,
I need some help. I just installed VirtualBox on my system and then installed Ubuntu, the reason is I am trying to uncompress a kernel, fairly old one. Now before anyone asks, I am trying to look for the bluetooth mac address problem, as we all know its still generic. But I found a kernel that its either real or unique, either way it works, but the kernel is incompatable with Nand/zip roms. I tried to go to the dev that made the kernel, and got no response for a month now, so I am trying to see if I can find it and fix it with my limited understanding.
I have done searches for how to do it, and even found commands on google, but for some reason its not spitting out the results as the sites say it should, so I am hoping someone can tell me, or give me step by step instructions on how to decompress this kernel.
All the commands are from terminal mode, and I even had found a script on here that suppose to do it, but I cant get it to run right. So if anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.
Really? No one can help with this? Does everyone like the generic Bluetooth Mac Address?
I'd really like to know this too
Well if someone would help me with the commands, myabe I can find how to impliment it into a zip/nand kernel and be done with this dumb generic.
Hi all, i am using atrix mb861 rooted

So I decided to try out some new ROMs and after installing Desolation I looked at the storage and noticed it's showing "217GB used of 239GB" of "Internal Shared Storage.” I think I have a hacker and I'm hoping one of the always awesome members here can help me out. Please let me know of any logs or any information I can provide to help. Thanks!!
Have you tried flashing a different kernel, that sounds like invalid partitions?
no I haven't but I was going to flash werewolf in a minute. turns out, according to virustotal, I have like 10 system apps that are getting detected by at least 2 AVs as positive. any suggestions?
Hey I have installed Oreo 8.0.0 stock and Nethunter Successfully and i want to install Nexmon to the device so I can use frame injections etc. and skip the external wifi dongle.
I have a problem, when i try to compile the nexmon app I get some errors on my PC so I can't compile it... I found a pre-compiled apk on the internet and installed it and it seems to work fine...
Here are my problems, I can't install the framework/tools form the app.
I have Magisk instead of SuperSU because when i rooted the phone with SuperSU the phone gets in a bootloop.
On the nexmon site (http://nexmon.org/) my phone says it supported with Oreo 8.0.0
I think it something weird with Magisk because it is installed in a different way then SuperSU and therefore I don't have the "su" folder in root.
So my question is if someone have a tutorial or backup/rom or something i can flash or if you could help me to install the nexmon and its framework.
Thanks.
*bump*
No one ?
I also have this issue. And no, you are not at all a minority opinion.
I would like say, however, that do not expect much in re packet injection with the wlan(0)... Ideally, you are always going to want to have the ability to inject, as your post said, FRAMES. Not gonna happen, from my experience with the Nexus 5/6/Raspi. The 6p does have a different wireless card, but still, it remains an issue.
Then again, perhaps some of that may come from using encryption mode enabled, and when you use magisk, it is by definition enabled. In fact, I now can't celebrate Kali Linux 2019.2 edition of Nethunter, because magisk doesn't show up {nethunter tries to force no-verity, magisk tries to force encryption} and SuperSU results in error. I've no solution and doubt entirely it'll be found here.

In principal you're right.
Especially Oreo and the 2019.2 release, which has the exact same kernel, aren't working fully or nearly that what they supposed to.
You can use Hijacker, which works so so.
So it's your decision.. ;/
If you're still interested in a working Nethunter build, which does not necessarily has a Oreo base, you gonna flip with this one.
Although I decided to limit my participation resp contributions, I am not so egomaniac that I keep my results for me..
From now and then (max. every 3rd day), I'll look into the according "Nethunter" thread.
Best of luck

Wow thanks so much for the response, and for the not-necessary information. I don't know why most everyone keeps it like a secret, but, redundantly, thanks

Don't mention it.
Every time I come a across a fellow Kali (Nethunter) user, I make a caper.
And, I agree with you, logically.
Wow, Update Central
UsPdSr,
I hope that I am the first one to inform you about the new beta release for nethunter, an extention of F-droid that operates, essentially, as the Kali Nethunter App Store.
It's supposedly still in Beta, but since they accidentally updated the news feed before almost immediately deleting it (though not the link itself), I have found that
A) The apps are absolutely useful... In our context, the Nexmon app and, in case I wasn't the only one, the nethunter terminal (since the 2019.2 update, I couldn't use up to display last command etc.)
B) If they didn't want anyone to use the store, they'd have brought down the store, not just the update that announced it.
https://store.nethunter.com/en/packages/
Do you know which Nethunter works? Trying different versions, it either is missing completely, or working, but only for a few minutes.
