Triange Away now supports I8190 (SIII mini)
Big thanks to Chainfire for update, and infected_ for doing the beta test so we all can be safe! Give him a thanks!!
Follow this for easy root:
EASY ROOT GUIDE
To make things clear, as it seems to be alot of confusion about rooting, custom binary count (CBC), & custom recoveries..
Custom binary count can be seen in download mode (vol- / home / power)
It's a counter to keep track of non-Samsung signed binaries flashed with Odin.
If you need to take your device to Samsung for warranty and they notice it's not at zero, you're not under warranty anymore.
Only known way to gain root without increased CBC is to flash one of the pre-rooted firmwares that you can find here.
To be safe, make sure it says something like "This does NOT trigger the flash counter." in the thread for that firmware you are about to flash to gain your highly desired root.:cyclops:
When you got root, finally download rom manager from playstore and you can get cwm recovery with ease.
From there you can flash whatever *.zip's you want without worrying about CBC.
If you do it the other way around, start with custom recovery to be able to flash a "root.zip" you will increase CBC!!
This applies if you try to flash any custom recovery.
In other words..Everything not signed by samsung will get your CBC INCREASED WHEN FLASHED THROUGH ODIN!!
System Status back to OFFICIAL
To restore system status to official you'll need to take a few more steps.
First use triangle away to reset your counter, then tick "allow tracker to run" and "system modified workaround" in triangle away settings.
Reboot device. Supersu will be bisabled for a few minutes when tracker runs and your status will become official.
Now you can uninstall triangle away. On next reboot your systemstatus will still be official, but of course it won't work with a custom kernel or custom rom.
If everything went well you should now have your binary count at 0, and a system status that says official.
Back to Stock Recovery
Most firmwares now have recovery included in the *.tar.md5-package, which was not the case in earlier firmwares for i8190.
You can take a look inside the package to ensure it's there. If it is, you shouldn'd have to mess with restoring recovery.
Open the firmware.rar.md5 with winrar. (Not unpack, just open)
Use this "i8190_stock_recovery.tar.md5". <<---This one doesn't increase custom binary count. (Flash in Odin as PDA)
Edit: This seem to not work as it used to. I'm now adding PDA-specific recovery.tar's to this thread, with continiued updates.
Thanks to Benz0nator, here is also a CWM flashable stock recovery.(Flash with your CWM / TWRP recovery)
So...is warranty back now? NO, not really. You're still rooted so you can't just send it to service in this condition.
For unroot and get warranty back you'll have to read [GUIDE] Unroot, Flash official stock firmware on Galaxy SIII Mini GT-I8190
Whats important to know here is that stock recovery is not always a part of the official firmware package so you might need to flash stock recovery before you unroot and flash firmware.
Also, If you're on 4.1.2 firmware and flash a 4.1.1 firmware you will get problems if no wipe/factory reset is done prior to flashing, as most roms are non-wipe.
Thank you.

Question
Hi!
I am a little bit confused. I flashed a pre-rooted I8190XXALJL firmware.
When I go to download mode,
on the bottom of FIRST screen is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.
When I press Volume Up, on the SECOND SCREEN is following text:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I8190
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Please explain somebody, why the yellow triangle? What is the CBC count then? I'm now in official or in custom mode?
Need I run the Chainfire's Triangle Away tool or not?

The yellow triangle have always been there. It's just a warning that a custom os can harm the function of the device.
official / custom can be fixed. Please read the Triangle away post by Chainfire on how to use it.
Added Stock recovery.tar.md5 to use with Odin.

Triangle Away worked like charm on my Galaxy S3 mini. My phone couldn't get past the samsung logo and couldn't get into stock recovery no matter what, so after hours of trying and flashing stock roms, I flashed CWM via odin and I my phone was working again. Afterwards I have purchased Triangle Away and my phone is like new again Thanks Chanfire :good:

yes it is neccesary because in download mode it may show SYSTEM STATUS : OFFICIAL but it does not show in settings > about device > status> device status
it will be still modified or custom there so factory reset needs to be done
I did the same thing but stayed rooted with the "Official" Device Status in About settings using mobile ODIN Pro.
Triangle away 1st, I used the latest, 2.88 I believe.
From a rooted device with mobile ODIN Pro installed I factory reset the Note 1st in settings, then using mobile ODIN flashed a stock rom onto the device ticking clear cache/data and clear dalvik cache.
After reset and setup, I'm still rooted with Mobile ODIN Pro & Supersu installed and have 0 counter, Official rom status in download mode on both parts and my About status in settings says official... This took about as long as it takes to flash the stock rom....
2nd picture, 3rd app from the right is SuperSU Pro...

but with my method u dont need to flash stock rom [ correct me if i am wrong ]
You still need to go back to a stock rom. Any custom R0Ms won't do as they use custom recoveries. Besides, I haven't seen many Custom ROM's that Can be flashed by ODIN.
And as soon as you root your tab you increase the flash counter.

As of now I am rooted, have a custom firmware and high on android recovery. I want to stay rooted but remove all 3 of the custom status warnings. If I just follow this guide, will I stay rooted? I know I will have to remove my custom rom but I don't mind so it isn't a problem. Based on what ultramag69's post it sounds like I will be able to remain rooted using the guide in the OP.
It's unrelated to what I want to do now (since I want to keep root) but how is this different from unrooting. The steps seem the same. I'm confused about how/if you keep root with this method and how you would go about unrooting in the event of needing to send the tablet in for repairs to samsung.

Because you can't use the Allshare cast hub if you have a custom status in the bootloader section and a raised count.
This has been raised before....
You may want to alter the name of the thread to say for stock roms as this may come up again.
With the method I put forward you will loose your custom rom but you will retain a stock rooted rom with all statuses as "Official" and "0" flash counter. Afterwards you may be able to flash a custom rom but I believe the system status will go back to "Custom" as custom roms install custom recoveries and play around with system files that get scanned after initial boot...
Likewise the thread says how to reset and does not say how to reset stock rom only .

Hello everyone, before I continue I will give my phone details below:
Model Number: GT-I9505
Andriod version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUFNC5
So my problem is that I followed a guide to rooting my Galaxy S4, after which Odin confirmed to me that my phone had passed the rooting setup, all very good. The problem occurs when checking to see if my phone had successfully being rooted, I downloaded Root Checker Basic which informed me that my phone actually isn't rooted.
So as anyone would do they start the rooting process again, to which the same outcome repeated.
I can not post the link to the guide I used, the website I followed was ibtimes. The guide I followed is named 'Root galaxy s4 (LTE) I9505 on Official Andriod 4.2.2 Kitkat Firmware.
The link above is the guide I used.
So my question is, has anyone else come across this in the past? I did a brief search in the forums prier to posting this but came to no avail.
Thank you for any and all help with regards to my problem!
1. Try to root ur phone 2 times with same method u used.
2. Always KNOX app will block SuperSU app. You will have to freeze or delete KNOX app.
As requested I deleted the KNOX app and tried a Root, it has again come up with the same results, quoting from the SuperSU app 'There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!'
I can not think as to what I am doing wrong.
Update:
I have factory reset my phone, and tried the root again to which the results are the same, Odin doesn't go yellow, it goes blue but some people say this can be due to different versions.
I have got usb debugging enabled, the battery is charged. This is really frustrating as I was wanting to get put a ROM on my phone today haha.
If anyone has any further advice that will be much appreciated!
Have you tried flashing CWM Recovery to your phone? When exiting CWM if you're not rooted, it'll tell you and ask if you want to root. Select Yes then go back into Android and check your SuperSU.
Otherwise, you could always try use Odin to flash one of Djembys pre-rooted stock roms?
If you're just wanting to flash a custom rom, then you could just download a custom rom, put it on your phone internal storage (or external SD), flash a custom recovery and then flash the rom? That's worked for me in the past.
Try to root again with odin and if your recovery say anything like ''fix root'' always say no
Hello,
I'm using a SGS4 rooted since more than one year and a half (odin, flash a small root bin file if I remember well, flash counter set to 1, no custom recovery and no nandroid backup)
Since I want to implement NFC card emulation now avaliable in android 4.4 in one of my apps, I'd like to update.
I've seen few threads on the subject, and most of them date from a long time (am I late ? ). I'd like to know how I could update normally my actual rom (provided by Orange, precisely I9505XXUAME2), or move to another slightly modified rom like the base rom provided by samsung without all these apps that you can only remove with root.
I don't want to have any data issue I've read about, I don't want to lose my actual apps and their data. (Nandroid backup then restoring apps and their data through nandroid manager?)
Also, if possible i'd like to update without losing my start screen, my parameters, etc... (in the worst case I'd re-set them manually). And finally of course I want to have it rooted at the end of the process.
In fact I want it to be just like if I had done an OTA update, then rooted it.
Also, How to update without setting the Knox counter to 1 ? (My flash counter is set to 1, should I use Triangle Away?)
Is there any simpler way than flashing the new firmware and then importing everything from my old data to the new and reinstalling the changes I made to the system (like avast & such) ?
Also, maybe there exists newest versions of the firmware, but without the new bootloader that has the knox counter ?
Thanks in advance!

1. You can't receive OTA updates if you have rooted your device. You have to flash the firmwares via ODIN.
2. You don't need wipe nothing if you flash new stock firmware. Instructions: Flash new firmware (if you don't have wifi flash it one time more), root it again then and you're done. Your data don't have to be affected (maybe you only have to reinstall some app if the data/cache was moved to the SDCARD).
3. Flashing one new stock firmware don't modify KNOX. You actived KNOX rooting your device or flashing one custom recovery. Knox: 0x1 can't be reset. Triangle away only reset the flash counter.
Thanks for your fast answer !
So, flashing a firmware doesn't impact the data.
Updating via Kies sets the Knox counter. Updating via odin doesn't ? Don't I have to do any sort of un-root before updating ?
Is there anything specific I should know about root ? Because I don't want to flash a firmware that I won't be able to root without setting the knox counter.
Also I think that since we can't revert the bootloader update, maybe i'd better not update that bootloader so that I can update future versions and root them without setting knox counter, by installing a knox-free rom even before a knox-free root is released...
Where can I find these roms?

1. Updating via ODIN or Kies don't set the KNOX counter. Downgrading YES.
2. Root dissapear if you flash new update via ODIN.
3. You can flash latest firmware and root them without KNOX. Take a look for the method: HERE.
Thanks for the answer again!
Howerver I still have 3 questions because I like to understand what I'm doing :
1. I understand the two terms ROM (OS of the phone) and bootloader (after a certain update, it adds the knox counter, and you can't downgrade it, and it also prevents towelroot from working). What is the called "kernel" ?
2. Up to exactly what version of the bootloader/rom does towelroot work ?
3. What is the difference between "knox-free" and "knox counter 0"? At the end of the method, will I have the new bootloader with a knox counter set to 0, or the old bootloader ?

1. Take a look: HERE.
2. Nobody know it.
3. - KNOX free: This therm is used for the custom ROMS normally. This mean that flashing this ROM dont touch the KNOX counter.
- KNOX counter: You still having your device in warranty if you have KNOX:0x0. You void your warranty if you have KNOX:0x1 in DOWNLOAD MODE.
So it means I'll still have the new bootloader ?
For those who may come to read this article and don't want to watch a video, I've found an article explaining what kernels are. http://m.androidcentral.com/android-z-what-kernel
Hi all!
I have a spare Galaxy A3 2016 (A310F) on which I'd like to install /e/ OS. TL;DR, I have some concerns about modding this phone:
I'm aware of Knox e-fuse. As I know, Knox gets tripped when the phone runs another bootloader or recovery instead than the stock ones. Is it correct? Does the fuse get tripped if I only root the phone?
About the root, I need it because I've read it's possible to install a ROM without without flashing a custom recovery or bootloader, through a tool called FlashFire (I've read this in a discussion about Galaxy S6, so I guess it should be safe to assume it could work also for A3). Does anyone else had experience with this tool?
I also would like to go back to stock if something fails. I can't find a guide to do this for the A3. Any suggestion? Also, where can I download stock firmwares?
I'm using a Linux machine, I know there is a tool called Heimdall (I guess this is the way it's written...). In the past I had problem to make it work, so I had to revert to windows and use Odin. At now, because I can't install another SO on my current machine, is it safe to use to go back to stock?
As an example, this is the workflow I have in mind:
1.Patch the stock boot.img through this guide to have root --> 2.Flash the ROM through FlashFire, without touching stock recovery, nor bootloader.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help. Bye!
EDIT #1: more detailed explanations...
