Got my new HD from Uk Mobiles. Was really looking forward to it. What a let down. Is this really the phone that is raved about? What does it give me that my Tytn didn't apart from a bigger screen, welcome but not essential, and built in GPS?
It is no faster in real use, the volume is so low when using Tom Tom that it can't be heard (unlike my Tytn which needed turning down and could be used in my old diesel Transit with no problems) and the lag on the GPS is so bad that you need to stop on roundabouts for a cup of tea and a biscuit so that it can catch up and show you which exit to take (if the sound worked I would have known because Jane would have told me).
It only changes orientation automatically in one or two items of software and it came with a rubbish little carry bag instead of the very usable belt holder that came with the Tytn.
Most of the software that is available was available on the Tytn, it seems to be only the extra screen real estate that makes a real difference.
It has no external buttons, something I didn't realise I would miss.
It's just as crap at syncing over bluetooth as the Tytn, I know that's a software issue but it just adds to the frustration and disapointment.
edit: Orange have identified a fault using a flow chart questionaire and have given me a fault code, Uk Mobiles are replacing the phone. If I can't come up with fixes for my issues, or rather the phone's issue my own are to deeply ingrained, before the new one arrives it's up on ebay.
What am I missing? Can it be turned into a usable phone or should I sell it on ebay, seek out a second hand TytnII and accept that I can't handle change?
Volume on mine is too loud actually,
Get HDTweak to enable the louder volume
Orientation can be changed in almost every app.
I use Mobile Magic to manage my Orientation apps
I have also fully tweaked my phone and I love it also coming form a Tytn.
I also miss the hardware buttons and most of all the slide out keyboard but I can now type just as fast on the softboard.
Your right about the speed not being any quicker but I can cope as can the phone.
My advice is if you feel like you say then sell it. however as with all HTC phones they have to be tweaked to get the most out of them.
That's why this place is such a god-send, Without this forum I doubt that many of us would own a HTC device.
Graeme, I know you're pain. When I got mine last November I struggled for a week to get it to sync with my exchange server and I had bluetooth issues as well. The stock rom seemed unstable and slow. I don't have any of those issues anymore and haven't for a long time. May I suggest trying a cooked rom. There are some great chefs in this forum that have refined and tweaked things such that, in my opinion, allow the HD to run the way it was intended...smooth and fast. My HD is solid. My point is, before you put it up on ebay, give one of these roms a look.
I'm sorry to hear you feel this way. I know others feel the same and similar threads have been created. Would recommend sticking with phone and trying to become adjusted to it. Read up opn other threads andpossible use software to improve phone. Plenty available on thjese forums if you search.

Hey there guys - how difficult of a task would it be to build a physical keyboard for the HD2, built into a case, connected through USB for the HD2?
I'm looking to the LG Versa for inspiration but have no real experience getting physical keyboards coded to work with OSs..
Was imagining how cool it would be to have the keyboard from the G1 built into a flip case for the HD2...
Is this an extremely lofty goal? Anyone out there with experience in such a matter?
I've looked at BT keyboards, but they are all way too big to be comfortably and logically integrated into a case for the HD2...

Do you know of any phones with the HD2's specs and screen size that have a physical keyboard that will work with TmoUS?
I came from a G1 and loved it... I love the HD2, but missing the keyboard.
If there is a phone you can recommend with the HD2's specs, screen size, looks, etc, with a physical keyboard, preferably with Android, then I'm all over it... I don't believe it exists.

MyTouch Slide is coming out in June, 3.5 inch screen and 600mhz cpu. Thats the closest to what your asking.

The only way you can connect a keyboard to the hd2 would be through bluetooth. The HD2 does not have a working usb host feature right now. I've seen small bluetooth keypads that are about the same size as the HD2 that you might be able to use... but it has really small keys like on a blackberry. it's more of a thumbboard.

The last I heard (this was back in 2008), Windows Mobile doesn't offer a USB host or SDK.
Since you pointed out that this phone doesn't have one "right now" am I to assume that some WinMo phones do have it or that it is possible to have one for the HD2 in the future?
OP: I have a Dell GM952 that I use on my HD2 when I am home and texting/tweeting a lot. Haven't seen a massive battery drain like I was expecting either.
I know you are asking about HD2-sized bluetooth keyboards, and this is a full-size QWERTY, but I thought you might be interested in hearing that I don't have any problems with it.

There have been many WinMo devices with USB host functionality... Athena was one of them. There were many others. The HD2 actually has the hardware to support USB host but doesn't provide power to devices connected to it. It just doesn't have the software or drivers.
Cotulla (the one who developed hspl for hd2) was working on a driver that allows usb host functionality, but you would need to provide external power to anything you attached. Theres a thread in the original Leo forum. But cotulla never released the driver as he was still working bugs out, and now it's been over a month since cotulla has signed into xda, so I don't know what happened to him. I hope everything is ok with him.
Also, I hear the USB host drivers are going to be functional in the linux port... so when android is made for the hd2, it should have usb host.(but again, external power is needed)

Gotcha. I, too came from the G1, and was worried about the lack of physical keyboard, but find I have adapted well to this.
This actually is a great idea, although it'd be kind of akward since, on a decently made, agenda-style pouch, both the keyboard and the device would sit in landscape mode, so, when trying to use the device, you'd be forced to take it out and force it to portrait mode (sure, some apps do sensor-rotate, but for the ones that don't you're screwed).
Still nice to be able to carry around a keyboard for fast typing in a nice, stylized, elegant looking pouch.
HTC's IME, which was surprisingly good on Android, is kind of frustrating to use on this device for some reason.

Hey guys I always knew that multitouch on HD2 isn't pefect at all, but now I noticed a peculiar behavior which I was not aware (tnx to ICS)...
enabling a function in developer settings to show pointers position I discovered that multitouch is working in a wrong way.
When you put the second finger over the screen it is recognized correctly but when you move it close to the same axis of the first one (both vertical and horizontal axis), it automatically get aligned on the same abscissa or ordinate (depends which axis was closer) even if the fingers are not aligned.
This is frustrating when I use some apps that take advantage of multitouch, such as games or emulators, because while I'm pressing a key on the screen and I need to press another one on the opposite side, but not perfectly aligned, I get a wrong recognition and often I press another key or a blank space.
I hope I was clear, but to understand better the problem you should activate that function in developer settings and try yourself.
Please give me a hope to think it is a solvable problem... maybe with a better driver :fingers-crossed:
That's just the screen I'm afraid. I've had the same issue with every ROM I've tried, and there's nothing you can do to solve it. At the very least, it's nice for me to hear some confirmation that I'm not the only one who experiences this.

I read around the forum that HD2 has hardware capabilities, so I think we need to get better input driver
The hardware doesn't support more than 2 points, and it does this rather poorly too. It's not so bad when using things like pinch to zoom or using two fingers to turn the map in Google Maps but when gaming it can be a bit of a pain. There's no driver that can increase the number of points the HW can support (if there was one then surely it would already have been implemented in Android) so afaik there's genuinely nothing that can be done about this. If there is, I'm sure someone will correct me soon.
It's a known issue and we can do nothing about it because of not so good touchscreen. Hardware problem, you know. It's present in every OS and in every ROM. For gaming I'd recommend getting a PS3 controller or using OTG cable and some other gamepads, like the X360 one.

Maybe you're right, an external controller is the best choice, but I don't want to bring with me other accessory when I'm outside... for the wrong recognition I think it's just driver fault because the problem is software side. When I use one finger is really precise the issue is when I try to use two fingers, because the driver is written wrong and read a fake position

Back in the days, there weren't that many "multitouch" apps out there for android.

From reading one of the booklets that came with the HD2 it all comes down to single-touch and a pinch-to-zoom gesture which both work most of the time.
Some people who developed emulators at that time, tried to avoid this "autoalignment" by putting the pads in opposite corners.
While still many people don't know that pressing on the edge of the screen, of the HD2, with at least one finger can cause
a swap in the y-axis once the second input is on the screen. (almost like in the nexus one video)
In very good light you can see this "edge-area", it's about ~4mm thick on each edge.

Some time ago tatsumaki made a decent virtual gamepad for fpse which got rid of the alignment by incorporating it in the way he/she arranged the buttons and button mask.
No one is going to fix this by a new driver,

I come to you guys to hopefully get some information. I've been trying to find a way to charge my old ThinkPad Tablet without hoping I with the "charge the tablet long enough to be disappointed" lottery. I know originally the tablet either was designed or was just unable to charge quickly over USB, and I was OK with it, until an update or some other issue caused it to randomly cut out from charging some time after the screen goes off. It seems others have had similar issues when I've researched this in the past.
Unfortunately the tablet is very much off. No way of getting any response beyond a single vibration. No way of getting anything, without hovering over the tablet for more than 40 minutes in the hopes that I can get enough juice without damaging the USB port (which might be... it feels a little loose).
I remember some time ago I had seen people trying to reverse engineer and make some kind of power cable that attaches to the dock but I don't seem to see it anymore, and what I have found seems to have no more pictures regarding what was done or how it was obtained. And I'm willing to just shell out cash for a dock, however that's the next big issue. The dock seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. Sure, places list it once I FINALLY have located the part number, but it's out of stock. Nothing seems to work.
So my questions to you all:
Is there an updated place with the how-to to create a charger of my own? If not, is there any place I can obtain a dock that will work with the tablet? Another lenovo dock I can modify, even if I have to hack it apart (not if the dock connector is unique to the TPT or is something from other lenovo products)? Does anyone have a dock they're willing to provide to me for a reasonable
price?

I missed using it. It wasn't perfect but it was, at the time a great tablet for me. And I've been itching to clean it up and see what I can do to hack/modify the tablet/android/whatever... but I can't right now, while it's effectively a paperweight...
Anything? I really am hoping someone has some kind of information I can use. Somewhere I can buy stuff, or a good link with details on building/hacking together a cable/dock...

I'm having a broken screen Samsung Galaxy Note 5. And instead of find a touch screen replacement, I want to just get rid of the screen entirely
and instead connect the board to external monitor via hdmi interface preferrably. I believe the part that connect the touch screen is called "LCD fpc connector", correct me if I'm wrong.
So I guess I need something like an adapter that convert "fpc connector" to "hdmi connector".
The question is, is this hack possible? can the phone board output to hdmi monitor at all?
If yes then how to do it properly.
Please englighten me, I'm a total noob on this

I also wanted this badly enough to stumble upon your post. From the light research i have done so far, it seems like this is a project only for those who have well labeled board diagrams and a deep understanding of LCD driver technologies.
FPC stands for "Flexible PCB Connector" and it's usage is ubiquitous in the small form-factor electronics space. If you are working with a FPC connector, you are probably handling a one-of-a-kind engineered interface. There are some hardware hackers who have achieved great feats such as THIS JAPANESE HARDWARE HACKER who build a driver board to adapt iPad retina displays to HDMI. I haven't stumbled on a write-up depicting and FPC interface to HDMI conversion yet. If you find one, please post it here because i would like to meet the person responsible for making it.
The way i see it, we have two choices from here. Reverse engineer a device and build a snowflake adapter which only works on one device, OR recycle the device and continue to live within the realm of consumer hardware.

Thank you very much for your insight, it is super helpful and somewhat deep enough for me .
It does seem to involve quite a lot of hacking and there isn't a universal approach.
For my case, it is not worth the effort anymore, I have found a way to use most android mobiles to external monitor without fixing the screen itself without much complications.
I doubt that I can find anyone competent enough to explore this realm any further .
