Anyone experiencing severe WiFi drain like this? It's a Galaxy S8 on the Australian ROM. Haven't seen WiFi taking up a majority of the battery usage before. WiFi is on all day as the device is usually connected to a WiFi network. Is this a settings issue? Currently causes the device to get only a little over 3 hours screen-on time.

Not that severe. I used adb to load better battery stats and had a pretty significant wifi wakelock. Deleted a rogue app and it fixed it a bit, but still ugly. I use greenify with advanced doze and it helps quite a bit.

Didn't realize you could get an app to have system permissions by using adb. Will GSam Battery Monitor give me a detailed breakdown of the WiFi wakelock without adb?

Going to give Betterbatterystats a shot. Will report back with my results.

Is anyone else experiencing exceptional battery drain in the last week or two? I'm not sure if it is since 4.3, but my phone barely lasts a full day and it is the same with all my other friends with a Nexus 4.

So many things could be draining your battery. You need to provide more data in order to troubleshoot.
Use BetterBatteryStats and/or wakelock detector (both in Google Play) to identify apps causing wakelocks. Then Google those wakelocks for possible solutions. Out posts screenshots of your wakelocks here or in a wakelock thread.
Plus provide details of what ROM, kernel, and radio you're using.

Interesting--- but the OP says it was resolved with the latest updates, but mine is still draining superfast.
I had the same problem. At my nexus it was the zooper widget which causes the draining. After uninstalling the battery consumption went normal. Maybe you have a similar problem...

LOL, I´m the OP, but also there is some Android System wakelock that is caused by a bad radio. Try to install some app to detect wakelocks or post a screenshot to see how it looks the battery drain, so we can help you better.

I just installed once the app, but can´t remember well how it exactly work.
It is not too hard. Just install app and then wait for a full cycle. What this app does, is just monitoring all the processes on your phone. When you make a full battery cycle, it detects which processes are awake and it shows them on the wakelock screen as well as the name of the process.
Sometimes, it will show crazy names or not so conventional names, but better to make a screenshot of the overall wakelocks and then the detail of the major wakelock. I think this was on top of others.
Past couple of days , I have been seeing alot of battery drain even when my phone isn't being used. I have attached system panel monitoring screenshots.... you can see that my device usage is zero (this was at night) and my cpu activity is around 3% while the batter discharge is a steep graph showng alot of battery power drainage. Has anyone else experienced that.... Im trying to figure out the culprit app.... it hasnt been like this before... my phone is unrooted.... I have brightness at low 98% of the time. however i do use the wifi when im home.
THanks.

Custom kernel, Wakelock Detector, Greenify.
But I can see you're using a 4.3 ROM. Upgrading to 4.4 and ART will already give you a nice boost.

Since im not rooted so greenify wont work... will install wakelock detector and report back. Not sure when is google going to push 4.4 to N4 so gotta wait on that.
your android os is very high.. mess with your settings/setup, if you have stuff that you dont need synced turn it off. do you have music syncing? how about photos for g+?
In the past week or so, I've noticed that my battery is draining unusually fast. I will take the phone to bed with me (I use it as an alarm clock) at 100% battery and I can wake up 7 hours later with it at 82%. When I look at my battery information, I see steady, solid drain over that time, with the biggest offender being Google Services. When I look in Wakelock Detector, I see the most usage (though seemingly not a ton) by Android System.
I found some tips on using Wakelock Terminator in Xposed to filter some things from Google Play Services from triggering wakelock, and I was optimistic, but it didn't seem to help.
Any advice?

Are you on a stock rom? Did you try greenify? It's on the play store. It kills the apps background services and the app itself until you start the app or the app is started by another app or service. Soon as the app os no longer needed it is turn back off. This program does not freeze apps it prevents them from running until needed.
Ah, sorry, I should have mentioned my rom and such. I'm running ForceROM, a relatively older version (maybe 2.3?), since I never felt the need to update.
I haven't tried Greenify. Haven't actually heard of that one before. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

Try a custom kernel like KToonsez in addition to Greenify. It's amazing what you can end up doing with that kernel
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
ForceROM includes Ktoonsez kernel. For the last 8 months or so, I've had great battery life. This is a sudden and recent change, which I'm assuming to be caused by an update of some Google app (such as Play Services).
How do I use Greenify? Or do I just install it and it does magic?

Do you have auto-sync enabled? What Google Services do you have enabled for sync? I used to have a similar issue but turning off sync for things I don't use (like newsstand, etc) helped my battery life a lot.

I believe that installing Greenify might have done it. Battery usage looks much better today. I'll do a real test tonight when I get it charged to 100% before bed.
Well, I'll be...
I think that the problem is wifi. When I'm at home, I'm on wifi, and the battery is constantly draining. When I'm not at home, and on mobile data, the battery is well-behaved.
What's up with that?
Are you using Google's keyboard?

Some apps can be setup to sync over WiFi only instead of 3G/4G data. but you have to check what apps would be the culprit. I know Google play, dropbox's picture upload feature can be set to download/upload/update over WiFi instead of data. But the only way to know is to see what apps connect over WiFi.
WiFi is suppose to give you better battery life since its signal is usually nearby and your phone doesn't have to use more power to find a better signal like it does with 3g/4g. I know for me it does since there are very few towers in the middle of the dessert.

No, I use Swiftkey.
So, interesting twist to this saga. Leaving wifi off takes away the solid blue bar on the battery screen, but I still see the same level of battery drain (about 18% overnight). Very intriguing.
Agreed

Sounds like you're losing power to things syncing over wifi. Maybe try just giving it a week and watching it to see if it settles down. Google play sometimes settles down on its own. I also vote to check out greenify. With the donation package you can work wonders at calming down power hungry apps, even system apps.

My situation has suddenly taken a turn for the much worse. I don't know what's going on. I haven't added anything new or changed any settings since installing Greenify a while back. Now, the battery is just tanking. I got up to 100%, ran Battery Calibration and now, about 2.5 hours later, I'm at 82%. Could this just be a problem with the battery itself? Do I need to replace it?

Honestly there are a few days where the battery life suddenly drops dramatically. I've experienced this on unrooted mf9, mk2, and nae. Give it some time and see if battery life comes back up. You can reboot the phone to kill a rouge app that might be the cause.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
This is the first I've heard the term MJA, so I don't think I'm on that.
There definitely do seem to be days where battery is worse than others. And I do typically try to reboot when I see it acting too squirrelly. I'll just keep keeping an eye on it. Weird-ass phone...
Hey everyone-
After updating my Nexus 4 to stock 4.4.4 a month or so ago I noticed that the battery on my phone started draining dramatically faster than it had before. Even with wifi, GPS, and even data turned off the battery normal drains in about 5 hours. I've tried everything I can possibly find to fix it short of replacing the battery. I believe it's a software issue but perhaps the battery itself is the culprit. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

have you examined your wakelocks and apps, maybe there's a runaway process somewhere. if it were a 444 software issue, you wouldn't be the only one posting about it.

Do I have root? What do you take me for lol. Seriously though, thanks for the help.
I just installed the app and check all of my apps. Nothing seems to be draining it dramatically.
will you post screenshots of your phones battery stats(stock)? and whats your phone/data signal like? brightness?
Hi, I have been using my nexus 6p for quite a while flashing custom roms like crazy and I read in one of the threads that the battery is best with the stock, so I decided to try it, except I am not getting a real difference.
Now, I need some help reading the battery graphs. I have tried bunch of battery apps to test the wakelock and haven't found much issues. I have turned off scanning, location, wifi, the only thing I did not turn off was the data. I even tried to turn off the SYNC one time and didn't make much difference.
I suspect it is my network. I am getting LTE in my area, but I don't know how to read the signal in the stock battery graph. In total I can be getting about 4 SOT at the end of my day down to 10 percent and I see people are getting crazy 6 or 7. Images below
