development on 5r dead?? - Blu Vivo 5R Questions & Answers

just wondering if the 5r is a dead end on development or if everyone is running on the 5 forum? I just don't see much activity

I'm not completely sure on how dead this forum is, I'd personally really like to see an aosp 7 rom made for the 5R. I'm hoping there will be more activity in the future

I just use apex launcher for icons and home screen themes its pretty neat and no commercials I know not a rom but check it out

are there too many differences to run the 5 roms on the 5r?
I also use apex I paid for the pro version since I have used it for so many years on other phones. i have the bootloader unlocked and all of that "jazz" and run a few things on the side. i would really love to get the functions like the menu screen to swipe from the top not the bottom.
i wish i had the know how or time to make things for phones, but my mind is stuck in an engine bay and that is what i do best lol

Inactivity in ROM Development Section

Hello,
I had been using HTC HD2 until I bought a Nexus S. I can definitely say that the ROM Development section of SNS is very quiet. There are just a few roms.
I actually miss the activity in HD2 roms section, there were new roms every day. Most of them was themed CM / stock roms.
(there were also MIUI roms, Sense roms etc but nvm that)
I don't know how to theme everything so I prefer pre-themed roms.
What do you think about this. Don't we need pre-themed roms?
I'm just a bit bored with stock CM7 =) I need different tastes.
Edit:
Btw, I tried the themes in that topic, but I couldn't get the same results as in screenshots. I just don't know. So that's why I prefer pre-themed roms.
Quite frankly, there aren't anywhere near as many people who own the NS; with the AT&T version rumored to release soon, that could change... and if the Verizon/Sprint versions ever surface it would DEFINITELY change; but for the time being, so long as there are just a few of us out there with the device, you can expect developments to be rather slow.
I agree that when the ATT model comes out things might change. With that said I'm fairly happy with the level of support for the NS after only been released for 2 months. Also, I'm more interested in ROM and kernel developers (and super awesome voodoo developer) than theme developers.
Maybe you could find a theme in the N1 or other section you like and ask the developer to port that to the NS.
Have you tried the theme chooser app with CM7? Sonny's themes are very nice too. I'm sure someone can help you get them to work (if those were the themes to which you were referring).

The HTC HD2 launched in November of 2009 in Europe, December of 2009 in Hong Kong, and March of 2010 in the US. The Nexus S launched on December 16, 2010 in the US and December 22nd, 2010 in the UK. Those are the only two countries it is currently officially available in. That means that as of yesterday this phone had two months of availability in the US and come next Tuesday the same will be true of the UK. The difference in availability to userbase alone makes it pretty clear why there would be a difference. If you wanted a device that had a lot of available ROMs buying a brand new device that hasn't even launched globally was the wrong choice.
ROM Development != ROM Theming. ROM development is actually implementing code into the ROM rather than just making the ROM look nice.
And besides, the look of Gingerbread is pretty amazing.
My personal philosophy is that, if theres a lack of something.. you could always step up and make ROMs yourself. If you don't want to, then there isn't room for someone to be complaining about the lack of development.

i cant wait to try one of your roms/themes/themed roms
There aren't enough devices out there yet. I may jump on when the ATT version comes out. I'm dying to play around with the nexus s kernel and editing that battery driver to try a few things.
2 months vs. Over a year.
Just sayin

OP...What you refer to as ROM development I call useless clutter. I'm extremely glad the Nexus S development subforum has not yet been invaded by a bunch of fools with winzip and a pirated copy of Photoshop. Let the developers develop. All that other crap belongs in Themes and Apps, for it sure isn't development by any stretch of the word.

AMEN!
Quantity != Quality.
The NS is still good enough for me as stock (kernel, rom) after two months. I'm not bored with it, and I don't miss anything (except a numbered battery meter) from a themed rom. I switched to Launcher Pro, but that's about it.
We've discussed this in multiple threads here already anyways. We've got koush, cyanogen, bionix, team whisky, morfic, supercurio all contributing. These are the superstars and I'd much rather have their support than dozens of others who slap a theme on some rom they "borrowed" from someone else and then call it their own.
that's exactly why Themes & Icons & stuff, should stay in the Theme & App section, and ROMs stays stock, then people can put whatever skin they want on top

Uh, it will take a lot more than a launcher to get multi-window. Maybe the CM team or some uberdev will build a multi-window setup that works. That is about the only thing I want on my N4.

okay why does it matter why he wants to have the touchwiz launcher? You guys are seriously going to question why he wants it like its any of your buisness, he likes touchwiz, its his choice of liking a different os. Its really stupid for you guys to question and put him down with negativity in comments instead of finding a link and if you dont like it? KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELVES. Thanks to those who provided the link.

I was just Googling some touchwiz launcher stuff for N4 and came to this thread.
Your comment is something that I have always wondered here at XDA. If you are in a particular device's forum, it means you are married to that phone and shall not praise/desire features and stuff which other phones have. It isn't like ditching your current device, XDA is all about development, so if someone seeks features from other phones, I think people should help (if you can) rather than criticizing. And when it comes to likings, everyone has his own preferences... who r we really to judge WHY he is liking this.. Why NOT he likes that.. etc etc. I know a lot of people do not like TW but many do. I ask the TW haters, if you don't like TW then what are you doing in this thread? Why replying? Why bother sneaking in? Just mind your own bloody damn business.

If you start making your own distributions of Android behaving in such fundamentally different ways, I suspect we are going to need to start doing things to prevent you from impacting our app ecosystem. I'm not sure what, but I could imagine things such as restricting how users can interact with Market apps on these devices (not allowing reviews or such).
We have let a lot of things in this area slide -- for example to be allowed to include Market on your device you are supposed to fully pass CTS. However, if you start really diverging from the core Android platform (I would argue this takes you well into the realm of a fork rather than a customization) then some deep issues are going to come up about how we handle these custom builds.
We have been putting a lot of thought and work for a number of years into how to let Android applications run on increasingly diverse and dynamic screens. Doing this correctly, without impacting our app developers in a negative way, is a really challenging problem. I also think it is something that needs to be done at the mainline platform level, not as a customization, because doing it right is going to require new well defined interfaces with applications for them to interact with it, possibly starting with just a facility they need to use to opt in to it.

googles (dianne hackborns) response when cyanogenmod was about to merge a multiwindow feature (cornerstone).
if its a smaller cm-fork or rom, cornerstone is open source waiting to be cherry-picked - although discontinued and buggy from what i hear.
can't imagine google is very happy about samsung doing it, but they might be too powerful a foe to upset.
another small observation, dianne herself introduced something like per app dpi to jellybean which seems related, still dormant. we might see it one day implemented as a real feature.

Share your experience of this beast!

Dropped my S4 in the toilet yesterday and got this beast today, the red one, magnificent phone.
Much better stock rom than the S4, faster and just simple, as it should be.
So what i wonder is, what can i expect from this phone if i start customizing it, because its hard to believe it can get any better.
I dont know if its necessary to change the kernel either, it seems like it has great batterylife.
So my real question as a new owner of this beast is, can it, and if yes, how can i make it better?
Cheers!
I am preety sure you are quite late to the party and all your answers can be found via a search (kernals , roms, battery-life). you might find a beast too in search.
That S4 belongs in the toilet I sold mine about 4 months ago and got the stealth black HTC One and as you have said its a great phone out of the box but there are also many nice things that you can do. For example you can flash a custom kernel to enable the HTC logo to act as unlock/lock button; I set mine to unlock if I double tap it and lock if I tap and hold, you can also set it to unlock when you swipe it etc...
You can also flash google edition ROM if you like the stock android look (even though sense is really nice too) and its much more stable than any aosp ROM out there and android kitkat will be released for google edition devices soon so if you want the latest android version just wait until its released and flash it!
And congratulations on your new phone, you are going to love it!

Cause there is no need to. If you switch away from stock, you lose everything, that is special about this phone. I am in love with active display.
Not sure why people crave for every next phone with EVEN MORE cpupower. Dualcore can do everything just fine and who cares if apps load 0,02sec faster o_0

this topic has been posted several times over, with the same results. people, in general, love the phone how it is. the only benefits you will receive are through xposed. ROMs are basically non-existent (compared to some devices) although there is a kernel being developed.
my opinion: root/unlock, xpose/hack, done. the phone doesn't need any "help".
The OP is very correct. The Moto X did not receive nearly as much love as most other flagship phones. Now here is where the hate mail and complaining begins. Everyone says you don't need roms it breaks active display. WRONG run Eclipse or any other stock based rom it works fine. It is only broken on Aosp roms and they have their own active display so do some homework. And everyone feels like Xposed and gravity box is the best thing in the world. It hack and slashes your framework. I would prefer to have a dev hard code in the mods so it is much cleaner. But hey I am no dev so everyone will ignore this and continue saying the X does not need anything but stock and xposed and gravity. I am glad some are happy with that.
I'm with Travis. Stock (blur?) Based Roms are better than stock. I'm no fan of xposed either. Adding another framework to Android seems so... TouchPissy (twframework-res.apk anyone?).

Sure they have an app that works like active display but doesn't use the lowpower-chip that the stock app is using. So your juice will go out the window using it cause for it to work like active display, it has to monitor the sensors, preventing deep sleep.
What's the point in developing, if you can't use AOSP? I know there are stock-based roms, but I wouldn't call that developement. That are merely stripped stockroms with added apps and some tweaks. I like a good AOSP-rom as much as the next guy though. It's a pain to make it work like Slim does and I'd rather just install Slimkat but as I said, I'd hate to lose active display.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I recommend looking into Eclipse. Highly modified stock based with his own coding for many features. Active display is not lost. And for the record I don't run aosp on this device but love aosp on other devices. But saying a stock based ROM is not developing then you are way out of line!
Do yourself a favor just run stock with xposed lol

I am no developer too and what I said came from my impression of some glances through the threads. But like I said, I am not able to judge and appologize if I oversteped. Didn't mean to offend.
Maybe many people are held back because of the risks involved in flashing with the Moto X. I own a Nexus 7 and a Defy and never was it such a hassle. Like you can't downgrade or you'll brick your phone and stuff. I guess devs only develop either for the phones they own or phones, that have a high demand for customroms. Neither of which are true with the Moto X I think.
Well developing "stock-based" roms IS indeed development, but it is probably not "original development" based on the XDA documentation. Developing an AOSP-based rom (as the original maintainer and not a derivative of his/her work) would be considered "original development".
The statement that the AOSP-compatible variant of Active Display does not use the "low voltage core" and hence results in higher battery usage than stock active display is correct.
Regardless, all DEVs, whether contributing "development" or "original development" deserve our respect and gratitude. Without them, XDA could not exist.
If anyone wants to read the official clarification between development and original development, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/original-development-t2456997

This is correct. But it is also correct that the X didn't get much love from the developer community. That's probably because it is so stock-based. There was very little, at the time of it's release, that people would have wanted other than the stock features.
I had a Samsung Epic 4g before this phone, and it had development even 2 years after it's release. I was running the latest Cyanogenmod 11 on the device even though it was so out of date.
The Moto X is a great phone and yes, it deserves more love, but it's hard to get that when the device is so 'stock' that only a minority of people actually want other options like Xposed, Custom ROMs, etc.
Any Samsung device on the other hand, plenty of people don't like TouchWiz so the developers get right on getting to back to stock android.
Who cares about ROM's or rooting when the phone allows you to do everything you need.
I really don't feel the urge to root mine at all. It does everything I need it to.
I really love the battery life and cool features like Active Display. I always use Touchless Control when I'm in the shower to do stuff lol, also when I'm driving.

If you have no idea why you would need root or have a custom rom then you should just stay stock. Everyone uses their phones different. The reasons why I bought a dev edition is too long to list. The moto X is a good device stock. But that does not mean that it can not be improved.

The reason most people on this site buy android over apple.
The sheer fact that they can put their own spice on the device and truly make it an experience they love.
Just simple economics, that's why android has such a greater global marketshare of smartphones.
Because the user experience is just hands down better and less locked down, like apple.
And the more you can do with an open source architecture, the "better"

Hello,
Indeed, the comment you have posted is right. If you compare Moto X with the other brand like Samsung and Sony then the features and quality in every brand we can see somewhere quite similar. And Moto X has its own name and originality to be in market.

Fastest/Smoothest ROM for Nexus 6?

HI everyone
I'm currently running LineageOS17 in my Shamu, but i'm wondering if there is a faster or smother room for the device
I'm really happy with LineageOS actually, it's just curiosity, I read that it's HavocOS, somebody can confirm?
Many thanks!

All ROMs use LineageOS's shamu kernel and device code, so you won't see much of a difference.
I've used several Android 10 ROMs, including LOS, and have settled on crDroid because it has a lot of customisation (though in itself that's normal) but also Face Unlock, which I really like. Other ROMs may also have it - I haven't checked. Overall I agree with Elektroschmock - since they use the same code base you'll find it difficult to find huge differences. They have all been stable for me - just Face Unlock made the difference for me, but I reckon you'll be happy with pretty much any one of them.
Edit after three days. Right, that's it for me. I'm taking my own advice. This is definitely the last time I'll offer any help or support to a junior member. I'm done with their lack of interest in answers.

I feel like XDA would be more active if there is a Discord. Reddit is also a good resource that has taken over the popularity of sites

I'm just wondering how ROMs are classified into 2 subforums NEXUS 6 ORIGINAL ANDROID DEVELOPMENT and NEXUS 6 ANDROID DEVELOPMENT
for me, I tend to like ROMs in 1st sub cause it is original. but havocs is also very good though lol

For clarification why there are two different forums:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2112240
So "Android Development" is the right place for most ROMs as the only thing they do is rename some LineageOS stuff.

I was just answering his question.
I was answering with Android 10 ROMs in my mind.
If you do a proper Android 11 bringup for shamu, it would be justified to post it in original development.
And Yes I would use your repositories - thats the spirit oft open source. But I suspect they are in a state where it's better to keep them closed as I do with mine.
I love full gestures in Android 10, so I tried several roms to find the smoothest one with full gestures on: Lineage, crDroid, Pure Pixel, Carbon. All with original kernels, nanoGapps and some 20 apps of mine installed.
The smoothest performance over time I found with Pixel Experience, using Lawnchair2 as a home launcher.
Cheers
PS: all of them roms run super smooth if you do not use full gestures, and each has its super nice tweaks
