My S8 has a very yellowish flashlight when compared to the one on my nexus 4, which is pure white. So I was wondering if anyone else had this problem
Not sure it's a problem
Some phone has a yellow flash compared to others. It makes the colors be more natural when taking a photo using the flash

I see. Personally, I prefer it to be white. So I was hoping somebody had an S8 with white flashlight and maybe I could get a replacement

Hi, I'm just wondering if this is a problem with my phone or if its symptomatic across all DHD's. When taking photos using flash, the photos have a quite visible green hue across it (this is of course, set to no effect). Does anyone else have this issue? Ta
I have not noticed this yet, but in what lighting conditions are you shooting ? if it's in common bulb or fluorescent lighting then it might just be your whitebalance which is off. Adjust and try again, see if you replicate the same greenish hue.

I tested in a pitch black room and there's definitely a greenish/yellowish hue across the photos. Looking at the LED flash itself i can see there is a yellowish plastic cover which i assume is the cause. Very odd that they would not go for straight clear plastic.

I think the yellowish flash module is normal. All the phones I have before with flash have the "yellowish plastic" background..whatever you called it. So I don't think this is causing the problem.
I too get a very yellow pic when using flash

I have the same problem. Bought two phones at once (myself and wife), one removes the normal, the other photos are very yellow. Terms of shooting the same. Original firmware, the latest.
Did you see what the solution to this problem?
is it just my phone or what here?
I have noticed the saturation of colors on my atrix are just horrible specially green which makes yellow and orange that's why yellow and orange are really off... just me or everyone? if so anyone got an idea on how to tackle this issue?
search is your friend, its not just your phone. Its also not really a problem for a lot of people, myself included, since id take it over supersaturated colors any day.
The Colors on my phone look like the colors on my Touch Pro. What I mean is that they look the way they should.

Agreed, mine looks fine to my eyes. Best looking screen I've ever had on a device besides my G73JW.

I cannot complain. My color look ok to me.
The resolution is amazing I can't lie but the quality and the color are **** compared to my amoled desire.. green is too dark and the quality of the picture is wack too pixelated...
everyone who says it's not important is lying at least a little. the screen is not perfect, period. one needs only to look at a green image or moving red image to see the flaws in the screen design.

As a color blind person I can say that the greens look fine to me. and thanks for saying I am lying even if only a little.
There have been a couple of colour comparisons, and I believe the concensus has been that the Atrix has more "realistic" colours, while we are more used to other devices having colours that "pop" with over saturation. We have become accustomed to over saturation, and so when we see colours on a screen that more closely match real world colours, we think there is something wrong. I will take the Atrix colours over anything else I have used.
<edit> I have seen one comparison where correct colour calibration techniques were used to compare the Atrix to I believe the iPhone4. I will try to find it again and post a link.
My GF has a GS3 and jeez I find it absolutely ugly that the LEDs bleed through the white case. It might be the case for the S4, but here's to hoping Samsung fixed this?
It really cheapens the phone a lot, and next to my Nexus 4 and Nexus 10, it looks even cheaper.
Anyway, I'm considering an S4 white version, but I'd like to know how the LEDs look.

Yes it does bleed out. As well as the buttons. I don't find it that disturbing however.

I see it does somewhat here also but the reviewer noted the notification LED seems to bleed less. I definitely agree. The notification LED in general is smaller than the S3 even in the dark phones, so it's a plus. Compared to my gf's phone, the video looks awesome.

This is odd as on my white note 2 the LED does not bleed. I have the black S4 now tho... looks cooler to me.

Hi,
Not sure if its just me, however, I tried taking a few photos in full darkness with flash on or even in low light. I realized that the flash was very dull and did not produce sharp photos as should happen when the flash is on. This phone has dual LED flash and I can still say that my Galaxy S3 with single LED flash had a better performance and produced really good photos with flash on.
The problem I see here is that the flash is kinda yellow in color while S3 had a pure white flash and that too extremely bright, however, with N6P thats not the case. Has anyone else noticed the same and is there a possible fix for the same ?
I agree, it's not that bright...
The flash on the Nexus 4 is also brighter than this one.

Yes, infact all other phones have a white light flash while this one has a yellowish flash. Even if you're using it as a flash light its evident. This is really depressing to see on an overall excellent phone, though my phone too has that ghoulish yellowish tint, but I've learned to live with it.
I agree, the LEDs are not as bright. My Nexus 5 ( 2013 ) has a stronger LED with a cold white tone while the Nexus 6p is not as bright and has indeed a warm-white tint. It´s not a huge problem though since I don´t use my phone as a torch light.
I believe when I first got it I had used it as a flashlight in a dark bedroom. When I was near the wall I could see that the two LEDs looks like they were different colors. One appeared more yellow while the other was more white. I assumed it had to do with balancing out the flash or something. I didn't really pay much attention to it because I take very few photos with flash.
The Nexus 6P (like many newer phones) has a dual LED flash. One LED is a warm white, while the other is cool white. When taking a photo, the two lights are mixed to create a color balance the camera deems appropriate to the scene. When using the flashlight it just turns them both on at a fixed brightness, resulting in a warm-ish colored light.
I really *don't* like this - there should be an option to just have the cool BRIGHT led activate when the tourch function is used
Hi @all
is it normal to have a perfectly white display when looking straight at it and to have a slight reddish veil while tilting it? And is it normal that Amoled Cinema and Amoled Photo Mode are a lot more reddish than adaptive mode?
I am on my third Galaxy S8 now. My first one had a perfect display, even when tilting it had the standard blueish color of the Amoled Displays. Had to send it back because of a hardware issue.
My second and third one have the above mentioned "problems".
How is it on your device? I'm already thinking of returning even this one... i want a perfect display for the price I am paying.
Thanks for your reply.

Yes I updated the phone to the latest firmware.
@Duskfall89 mine has that red veil issue as well but not enough to make me go nuts. I once had 1+1 and yellow band issue drove me nuts. Nevertheless, i think you can just set the red to the lowest on the RGB settings and it will go away. Im more worried about the battery haha

It's not an issue of being standard on oled displays. The blue tint is to produce a "vivid" look that catches the eye better.
Cinema and photo are suppose to have a warmer tint to match real life viewing. (because in real life, things have a warm tint) from the sun, and standard lighting.

So is it normal that cinema and photo mode are more "reddish" than standard adaptive mode? I never tried those modes on my old S7 so I don't have any comparison.
@Duskfall89 i know how you feel. i can also verify that mine has a red veil when switching from cinema/photo/adaptive. Regardless, i think i can live with it. After going through the forums, many s8s are plagued with this issue and i got mine on Monday mind you! Others have mentioned that they have swapped around 3-4 units with most experiencing similar redness. If you're not satisfied, there are also who have swapped till they got the least red display unit but that would also run the risk having other parts that come faulty.. alas, people are never satisfied. I once swapped 3 msoft surfaces.

Yes, it's a lottery I guess...
I think I will stick with it, it really doesn't bother me too much, it's more about the fact that i know how my first S8 looked.
Amazon won't replace it anymore because it's the third phone I'd send back and so they want to check their entire stock. They offered me a complete cashback if I return it but then I would be without a phone. I could give it back, take my cash and then buy another one (which is now much cheaper than the price I paid at launch) but I am tired of setting up phones now

Yessir. They use a warm base as opposed to a cool base. If you really want to learn more about it Google TV color calibration and it will go into detail about why they use a "cool" blue tint for floor and selling and how true natural colors are more "warm" reddish
Then I recommend calibrating your TV and after a day of adjusting, you'll never want to go back.
Also, blue filter in the Phone settings will add a warm tint at night to help your eyes
@Acoustichayes good info !!! i guess i wont be so worried! but i guess the only issues here is that my reddish areas are focused at the top of the display and is not uniform across.

Thank yah. And the red tint on the top was apparently a software issue that was fixed in an update. There's a thread on it here somewhere. Just make sure your phone is updated

I had the same case but cannot really consider it as an issue as sometimes, i cannot barely see it. It's just the way it is. Also, you might wanna check out wider color gamut. i think that we're just used to the "blueish" as it looks natural but samsung uses deep red this time.

Hi, what do you mean with "had" the same case? did you get rid of it?
I got used to it now and it really isn't an issue but I'd prefer the "blueish" tint as my first S8 had that. Sadly it had the home button bug so I returned it.

Ok then it's the same as mine I could be make it more white if I'd play around with the colors but even then, while tilting the reddish veil still remains. Less noticeable but it's still there. So I decided to leave it as it was out of the box. At leats my home button now seems to work properly :laugh:
